DasyLab spurious crashing - Measurement Computing USB Pods ?

Hi Team.
Am running a DasyLab (V12) program which accesses a pair of Measurement Computing USB Pods.
The intention is to run a research lab instrument continuously - 24/7 so to speak.
The system is essentially fine, and can run perfectly for as long as say 24 hours, but then halts with a" Sampling Error " stock message
referring to loss of visibility of one of our USB pods.
We are using a sensible and conservative timebase.
Now I do realise that we may be experiencing inductive interference in our control pathways.
The machine is ultimately a high voltage and high current distributed lab assembly.
We are paying good attention to good engineering practice and managing ground and earth returns as best we can.
The USB pods are quite some distance from the PC but we are using active drive USB cabling certified to the distance ( appx 15 m )
The PC is clean and not overburdened.
Any insight or similar experiences would be welcomed.
Thanks
Jack Sprat

You have provided insufficient information to diagnose a problem.
There is an updated MCC-DRV 12.1 on the Measurement Computing web site.
You should also be running the DASYLab 12.0.1 service pack update.
You should also be running a recent version of instaCal and the Universal Library (V6.23 or later, 6.25 is the current release).
For a 24x7 application, you have to agressively turn off power management. Microsoft does not configure your Windows computer for 24x7 operation.
You have to determine which USB hub your device is connected to (not that easy for the ones that use the HID driver), and disable power management. With the exception of allowing the screen to blank, you should not have any power management enabled... don't let the hard drive sleep, don't let the CPU sleep, and whatever else, don't let Windows put the USB hub to sleep!

  • Measurement computing USB-QUAD08

    Hi,
Does anyone out there have any experience with Measurement Computing USB-QUAD08 board? I normally stick with NI DAQ only, but I was looking for a USB DAQ with 8 timer/counter channels and that's the only one I could find.
I'm trying to measure the period of a digital PWM signal. Specifically I want to capture 50-500 consecutive pulse periods into an array (measure period between falling edges) which are 100-10000us in duration.
At any rate, the example from their website (attached) utilizes .net references, which I am not familiar with, does not seem to do what I need.
If anyone out there has worked with this device and would like to modify the attached VI to accomplish what's needed, I would greatly appreciate your help.

I don't have any experience with the module you listed, but I do use USB-1208 quite a bit.  Have you tried using the labview vi's that come with the device?

  • Measurement Computing USB-SSR24 error 42 Digital Port not configured correctly for requested operation

Using LV 2012 and ULx 2.02 LV driver:
LV is throwing an error 42 (Digital Port not configured correctly for requested operation) from the ULx write VI but only on PortCH.  All my configurations are correct on the hardware and Instacal tests the ports OK.  I've reinstalled everything and still see the same issue.
Since PortA is configured identical to PortCH, and PortA is functioning fine, I'm stumped.  This is occuring on two different SSR24 DAQs so I don't think it's the hardware, plus I've already mentioned that the Instacal isn't having a problem with it.
I've attached my VI I'm using for debug.

I worked with Measurement Computing and they agreed that there is a bug with certain DI/DO configurations.  There are a possible 16 different DI/DO configurations with the hardware and apparently mine (PortA - DO, PortB- DI, PortCL-DI, and PortCH-DO will throw this error for PortCH.  I'm currently using .net calls to work around the issue until the ULx driver is updated.  I'll post that when I see it.  Attached are the .net VI's that I'm using for simple static IO.

  • Measurement Computing USB-DIO96H driver issue with Labview 2012 SP1 on Windows 7 x64

Is anyone else having issues with measuremetn Computing's USB-DIO96H driver in Labview 2012 SP1. It throws warnings in Labview when loaded that are unresolvable as you can't save to the DLL driver file. Also it regularily crashes Labview randomly. I am not impressed with their driver. Anyone have any suggestion other than replacing with NI-DAQ solution, which I am working on?

I've taken a look and I don't see any drivers available for that device on ni.com. There are two potential workarounds that would both involve building your own driver:
    1. Write a LabVIEW application that calls functions on the DLL you downloaded from Measurements Group
    2. Write a LabVIEW application that addresses the device using NI-VISA and serial communication.
Some resources if you choose to go down that path:

  • External clock LabView crash with Measurment Computing board.

    Hi,
I'm using a Measurment Computing PCI-DAS6402-16 board with Labview (using Universal librarys VIs) in a 4-stroke engine DAQ application and amognst the signals obtain Internaly clocked, there is In-Cylinders Pressure signal which is timed with a Crank-angle deocoder sending analog pulse signal.
Although there seems to be no problem while the motor is running, it appears that when to external clocked signal  is not getting any pulses (while the motor is not running) then Labview stops to respond and awaits for the external clock to start, and that doesnt happen within 10s then it crashes.
I dont know whether it is Software problem (because external and internal clocked signals are both in the same WHILE LOOP) or if it is a Hardware problem (because With a NI card there seem to be no problems).
    THNX in Advance

Well it couldnt be a more typcal windows crash:
If a channel is externally timed with an analog pusle signal, If the VI starts running but the external clock isn't then:
-Labview stops to respond to any clicks (there is no .exe at this point) but it keeps working though (That i know cause if i start the ext. clock at this point it "un-stucks' and starts working)
-But, if for some secs no ext. pulse signal is generated then labnview app stops respondin and i get the typical 'send error report' window.
Could it be that the Universal library for Measurment Computing boards haw a bug? Cause the same thing happens with the "Analog input External Clock.vi" example given with the Library..so it can't be my mistake..or can it?!

  • I need to crash my computer .... how do I save my library ?!?!?

Due to problems with my computer, I will be crashing my computer so I can start from scratch.
Does any one know if I can save my library to a disc so I dont lose it ... ?
Most of the songs are from different CD's and would take far too long to put them all back on again ...
If anyone know's ... please answer or email me : [email protected]

Well, you can Use iTunes for Backing up your Music.
It works fine for music files but, I prefer more control over my backup process, and it is also important to note that a large limitation of using iTunes to manage the backup is that the iTunes method does not maintain the two meta-data files (iTunes Library.itl & iTunes Music Library.xml) where your Playlists, Ratings, Playcounts, etc. are stored. See: What are the iTunes Library files?
If you are heavily invested in your Library data (playlists, playcounts, ratings, last played, date added, etc.), then it is critical that you also make multiple backups of your ‘iTunes Library.itl’ file.
If your music is located under one common Folder (e.g.-‘iTunes’), then it is easiest to physically copy that folder and all its sub-folders in one simple process. It can be done quickly, and incrementally – several times a day, when necessary.
In the case of any data loss, just re-copy your entire (or partial) music library back to wherever it was, placing it in the main Folder that the previous iTunes expected. Along with the .ITL meta-data file, this completes a full ‘restore’ of your music to the time of your last backup.
Use of a backup software program will greatly help. It will allow you to easily perform incremental backups of only the files that have changed. WinXP has such a facility built-in. I use a free program (FileSync: http://www.fileware.com ). There are many out there. Some use Zipped files or proprietary formats, others use standard file formats. I like FileSync as it uses normal file formats that can be viewed/managed via any Windows program or utility.
Here's a list of possible ways to copy your music files from your main iTunes computer to another storage medium for backup purposes.
    1) Use an External Hard Drive to store the complete iTunes meta-data files and underlying Music Folder structure and songs from your main computer. They are quite cheap now, for their storage volume.
2a) If you have two computers, connect them through a router -- or – use a Direct (w/Mac) or Crossover (PC/PC) Ethernet cable (See: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3001.html). Copy files from one computer to the other.
2b) Or - Connect the two computers via a USB-to-USB Network Bridge. See: http://www.usbgear.com/link/index.html as an example.
Use the second PC as your backup repository.
    3) Burn several DVDs (at 4.7+ GBs each) with the music data files and store them safely. Re-writable ones are good for backup purposes (if your DVD drive can manage these).
    4) Burn 6x more on CDs (at 700MB each) than in #3 above and store them safely in more space Re-writable ones are good for backup purposes (if your CD drive can manage these).
    5) Use a larger USB Flash drive (1GB - 4GB) to store the files only if you have a small amount ripped music or have multiple and/or jumbo USB drives at your disposal that will fit your music library.
    6) Use the second internal hard drive (if available) of your PC -- not optimum, as you really want to physically separate the storage of backups from the originals, but good as a tertiary storage device.
By keeping only one copy of your music (other than on the iPod), you are not truly 'backed-up' and are running a high risk of losing your music.
It is a good policy to backup all your important data. It is a very smart policy to back it up on more than one medium.
External hard drives now run less than $100 for 200-250GBs of storage. Very cheap backup insurance.

  • Set idle voltage with measurement computing

I am working on a project that does valve control and when the program ends I want the valves to close, by setting the Analog output to a constant value. I am using a USB-3101FS currently. I saw a post on setting idle voltage with DAQmx channel properties, but I was not given the same options because I am using measurement computing devices.
Edit: here is what I am curerntly working with. It is very early design

So a few things.  First your program runs, and it runs once and will be done after the last item finishes executing on the block diagram.  Turn on highlight execution to see it run (the little light bulb on the block diagram).  This is not how most programs go.  Generally a user wants to be able to interact with the UI and have it change values as they change them.  To do this you need your program to run in a loop until a condition is met to cause a it to close.  This is where our friend the while loop comes in.  The while loop can keep the program executing until a stop condition is seen.  The easy method is to create a button on the front panel, then wire it to the stop condition of the loop and now your program continues to run until you press stop.  After your loop is done executing is where you can have some closing steps to set your output to 0.

  • My MuVo Micro Crashes My Computer and Locks Up - HELP

I just got a Creative 52MB MuVo? Micro N200 for christmas. I just learned how to rip tracks from a CD and transfer it into the player. However, I tried this twice and both times it totally crashed my computer (total lock up in blue screen saying it couldn't write to the dri've for my player - had to turn off the power to turn off the computer) and locked up the player. Both times, I was transferring several (about 5) songs at one time. It it said that all the songs were complete except the last one. Then it kind of hung up. It wouldn't even let me eject the dri've because it said it was still transferring files. Then the computer crashed. Afterward, the player wouldn't even turn on. I had to take the battery out and put it back it in. The songs I had transferred made it into the player okay.
My computer is about 3-4 years old. It is an HP Pavilion with a celeron processor and I upgraded the RAM to 320 MBs. I am connecting to the player through a USB hub. I run the ZoneAlarm firewall and the AVG anti-virus program and I keep both up to date. Another weird thing that happens is that every time I connect the player to the computer, my webshots (a free screensaver and wallpaper picture program) program organizer starts up.
Does anyone have any ideas for how to fix this?

    ME is the worst!
With installing my zen xtra software it completely deleted my registry..... I install it on my xp comp, it works fine..... the only problem is that all my music is on my ME comp..... im not going to split the files and put all of them on floppys..... i have AVG too..... I wonder if it causes it!
I hate Windows ME..... it was even deemed the worst OS ever by tech tv!
It could be the firmware, even the media player drivers..... I cant test the media player idea, as soon as i install it it kills my computer..... but i installed new firmware and it stopped freezing ( The zen xtra )

  • Tried to install newest itunes, crashed during install, and now crashes my computer every time i try to uninstall.  Itunes doesn't show up in the Add/remove prog list at all.  tried to roll back over a month, still crashing.

So I tried to update to the newest Itunes.  It locked up my computer part way thru the install.  Black screen, computer turned itself off.  Now anytime i try to do anything with Itunes it shuts my computer down.  I can start up fine in safe mode but when i try to uninstall from there, Itunes doesn't exist.  the other apple programs do, but no itunes.  when i try to uninstall the other programs in safe mode it tells me it can't because the windows installer isn't loaded.  I have system restored to over a month ago and itunes still doesn't show up in add/remove programs.  however, i can open itunes.  it just tells me a file didn't get installed and to uninstall and reinstall.  So, how do i remove a progam that doesn't think it exists and crashes my computer when i try to do anything related to it???  I'm out of ideas.  running windows vista.

I think my problem is fixed now.
For the fun of it, I reinstalled iTunes 9.2.1 today (using the exact same installer as I did yesterday), but this time I didn't uninstall iTunes first. As expected, iTunes recognized my iPhone (as I expected it to, until my next reboot).
A few minutes later, Software Update showed up and among the updates is "iPhone SDK Compatibility Update". The description indicates that installing this should fix an issue where iPhones and iPod touches aren't recognized by iTunes. Isn't that interesting?
I installed that update and most of the others waiting for me (including Java, Safari 5.0.1, and a few others - not 10.6.4 though, due to the issues with nVidia graphics cards). After the reboot, I started iTunes, and it saw my iPhone!
So, if you're having this same problem, I'd recommend tracking down this update and see if that does the trick for you. Hopefully it will.

  • Firefox crashes MY COMPUTER!!! When I open it, my computer BLUE SCREENS then turns off!!!

Within the past few months, I have not been able to use Firefox at all. It started crashing my whole computer, making the whole thing go blue screen before shutting down, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled it TWICE, the second time sacrificing ALL OF MY BOOKMARKS, and even after that, it STILL CRASHED MY COMPUTER! My college professors prefer that I use this browser to do my WebCT assignments (and *tests*) and I have been unable to do so.

  • Ipod Nano frozen, and appears to be crashing my computer when I plug it in

After owning my ipod nano for a whopping two hours, and playing a total of two songs on it, the nano froze. I attempted to select music based on album, hit play, and it froze on that position. It doesnt dim or power down after awhile or anything.
I hooked it up to my machine and tried to start itunes, and it would not start. Later, I started itunes by itself after rebooting the machine. Plugging it in after the fact causes no change on the screen (still frozen) and itunes never acknolwedges that an ipod has been plugged in.
I read the instructions, and know that supposedly, according to the instructions, holding down the mouse wheel for five to ten seconds, or flicking the hold switch will reset the ipod.
    Unfortunately it doesnt.
I'm really, really regretting this purchase. Anybody know what I should do?

To clarify it only crashed my computer once, but did seem to actually prevent itunes from starting.
