Data amount in SAP BW
Hi,
I´m trying to get a feeling about how much is "large data amounts" if data has to be
- uploaded
- stored
into SAP BW.
I have no idea or feeling about the definition of amounts.
Is a specification available for e.g. how much the amount of a DW could/should be.
What are huge amounts of data which are loaded or stored into a SAP BW.

Hey. I'm sure you could get a lot of different answers or opinoins on this question. I believe that with the proper planning and architecture, we should be able to accomodate any amount of data within BW. The key here is the planning aspect.
I do know that in the past, SAP has receommended that DataStores be kept to under 20 million records and cubes not to top 400 million (these are individual provider recommended limits, not all providers combined). But then you can get into partitioning, and other concepts. I have personally worked with DataStores much larger than 20 million in a very manageable and effecient way.
I would say to just read through some papers on how to plan and effectively manage the system. Here is somewhere you could start.

RFC connection from SAP Data services to SAP ECC
We have data services set up in linux machine. I am trying to set up RFC connection between data services and SAP ECC.
From data management console after creating RFC connection i am getting "RFC_bad_connection" error message. Username , password, system number, hostname and client is working from SAP GUI and has all the authorizations. SAP gateway and service is name is correct.
Did anyone had similar issue and what was the solution. Do we have start the RFC connection from linux data services machine, i didn't see any sh executable to do so.

Uploading data from non sap system to sap system
hi to all experts,
my requirement is to upload data into the sap system from non sap system . the data is in a flat file ,but the problem is that in the flat file all the field lengths and fields are not in order or same as sap system. How to upload the data into sap system ....hi,

It will read the data from excel sheet column wise and then store it in ITAB. you can change the order after reading the file.
In case of Text file use FM GUI_UPLOAD.
You can change the order of the fileds after reading it from file, but the length and all you have to make compatible to SAP standard fields.

I hope i understood your question properly, because ; to the best of my knowledge, Third-party extraction tools can be used to extract data from non-SAP source systems into SAP BW. These tools supply extracted data directly to a staging engine BAPI on the SAP BW platform. The staging engine then performs the mapping and update rules. Third party vendors of extraction products certified for SAP BW include:
Informatica, Genio, Acta Works, Evolutionary Technology Inc., If you can get information from any of these third party vendors, then i hope your query will be cleared. -

If you want to migrate closed SOs..then first consider why? and from what date i.e how long back?
Following are the considerations:
1) You can't get the creation date same as your previous system dates--this might lead to incorrect reporting. So you'll have to check if its really worth?
2) You might want to have a reference no somewhere in the new transactions from the previous system.
3) If you want to migrate the deliveries, invoices then you've to consider also GL migration as well as payments.

and 60 Gb is certainly too much
use LSMW for that purpose

Master data extraction from SAP ECC

I am a newbie here and teaching myself SAP BI. I have looked through the forums regarding master data extraction from SAP ECC in all forums but could not answers for my question. Please help me out.
I want to extract customer attributes from SAP ECC. i have identified the standard data source 0customer_attr and replicated in SAP BI. I have created infopackage for full update. I validated the extractor checker(RSA3) and found 2 records for 0customer_attr.
When I run the info package, the info package remains in yellow state until it times out. Please let me know in case i am missing anything, Please let me know if there is any other process for master data extraction similar to transaction data extraction.Hi All,

From your info pack monitor --> menu environment-->job overview--> job in the source system--> prompts for source system(ECC) user id and password, enter them, you will get your job at SM37(ECC), select job and click on log details icon. there you can see details about your error. please share that error screen shot.

The sequence mentioned by you is correct for importing data in MDM- flat lookup, hierarchy first followed by Main table.

I am assuming that you are implying Qualified table here.
Import to qualified tables can be done in 2 ways-
1. Import separately using the unique field for the main table for linkages to the main table records.
2. Import can be clubbed with the main table import itself. In the import map we can use Join functionality to do a lookup based on the unique field for the main table.

Date profile can be assigned in Transaction type or Item Category.Depending upon type of dates required you can configure dates specific to meet customer business requirements.
Path: SAP Customizing Implementation Guide>Customer Relationship Management>Basic Functions>Date Management>
a. Define Date Types, Duration Types and Date Rules
b. Define Date Profile
c. Assign Date Profile to Transaction Type
d. Assign Date Profile to Item Category
Steps are as:
1. Define Define Date Types, Duration Types and Date Rules : You can use predefined date types, duration types & date rules If you require some extra you can configure it here.
2.Define Date Profile: Here take reference object as System or user.Assign Date Rules, then date types which you configured in above step.1
In date Type assign date rules.
3.Assign Date Profile to Transaction Type or Item Category: Here assign above Date profile to a transaction type or Item Category.
