Data back up  fastest way

I wrote about this subject and a kind person gave a list with steps to back up using external drive no time machine because it will be inside mac I suppose and taking space. How to choose only ceratin data, e.g. iPhotos etc ?
I cannot trace that message and if you can update me before proceeding. Thanks a lot  Ferro

The correct way to use any backup program is to store the backups on an External Driver, Not on the internal.
Yes if you leave TM running all the time it will make hourly backup, what Apple calls Snapshots, to the internal drive until you connect the dedicated TM external drive and then it will backup to the external and supposedly delete the hourly SnapShots stored on your internal drive. I personally use TM but I turn it on to do a backup to a Dedicated external then when it is finished I turn it off. I also have the system that takes those hourly snapshots turned off.
The draw back to that is if you are actively working on something, for a day or days, and don't do a TM backup or make a backup copy of your work to some other external drive or another networked computer or drive and your system crashes you will lose that work. But then if the system HARD CRASHES all those Snapshot and your work may be lost with that crash.
I take that chance everyday on my Work computer but that is a Windows computer and I have total faith in it and I do make copies of my work at the end of the day to a USB thumb drive.

    I tried mackeeper to recover files but it could not. Any other way any one has tried to recover a system library folder after OS upgrade?

    No, it doesn't store a clone. You would have needed to make one with either SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner.
    If the files were in your ~/Library folder then they may still be there. As I said, you can access it by
    going to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library". I wouldn't think an upgrade would overwrite anything in ~/Library.
    If you have a Time Machine backup you may also be able to use that to retrieve them.

  • What is the fastest way of getting data?

    With a scanning electron microscope, I need to scan a 512*512 pixel area with a pixel repetition of 15000 (two channels), meaning averaging over 15000 measurements. Simultaneously I have to adjust the voltage output for every pixel.
    I am using a 6111E Multifunction I/O board in a 800MHz P3. The whole task has do be done as fast as possible (not more than 20 minutes altogether).
    What is the fastest way to get this huge amount of data with averaging and output in between? (E.g. do I use buffered read with hardware triggering or is there a faster way?)

    Using the NI-DAQ API (not LabView) will give you a significant amount of more control over what happens and when to the data stream; which translates to a more efficient program. But you need to program in C/C++ or Delphi then. The Measurement Studio provides ActiveX controls that are like the LabView ones for C&C++ (theyre slow like the LabView ones though not a lot you can do about the Windows GDI).
    What are you trying to sample 15000 times? The 512*512 pixel field?
    Thats almost 15Gigs of data! And it means you need to process data at 12.8MB/s to finish it in 20 minutes. I hope you know C, x86 assembly and MMX.
    I would setup a huge circular buffer (NI-DAQ calls them double buffers), about 30 seconds worth or so, to use with SCAN_Start. Then I would proces
    s the actual buffer the card is DMAing the data into with a high priority thread. Progressively sum the scan values from the 16bit buffer (the samples are only 12 bit, but the buffer should still be 16bits wide) into a secondary buffer of DWORDs the size of the screen (512*512), and youll need two of those, one for each channel. Once the 15000 scans are complete, convert each entry into a float divide by 15000.0f, and store it in a third buffer of floats.

    What is the fastest way to get the WM loaded. I'm not using a login manager but i won't every time type "xinit /usr/bin/openbox-session". I will autologin and autoload the WM.
    xinitrc will open a security hole because it won't lock the virtual terminal and I'm not sure if a bash script is the right way.  What would you suggest?
    The last time I installed yaourt I had the problem that it couldn't find any packages from the AUR. Do I have to do someting to make it work after I installed it? I tried it out-of-box.
    And if somebody is right now using ubuntu can he give me the screenshots for the font settings in firefox and gnome font settings (right click menu settings).
    Thanks to everyone who wants to help or just look at this thread.

    Happy new year everybody
    I just solved the locale problem. If someone (like me) will use the autostart.sh in the official openbox site will get this error. Look at this:
    # Run the system-wide support stuff
    . $GLOBALAUTOSTART
    # Programs to launch at startup
    hsetroot ~/wallpaper.png &
    xcompmgr -c -t-5 -l-5 -r4.2 -o.55 &
    # SCIM support (for typing non-english characters)
    export LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.utf8
    export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM
    export GTK_IM_MODULE=scim
    export QT_IM_MODULE=scim
    scim -d &
    # Programs that will run after Openbox has started
    (sleep 2 && fbpanel) &
    I removed the ja_JP.utf-8 and this problem was solved. Thanks for @Cedeel and @karol for their help.
    Now I still don't know in which  way I should load my openbox. Details in the first post

  • Fastest way to transfert data from cRIO

    Is anybody know the fastest way to transfert data from cRIO? I tested shared variable, but it's not fast enough. What is the fastest speed could we achieve with shared variable in cRIO? how can I transfert 50000 32 bit word per second from cRIO to my PC? This should run 24h/day.

    Hi Benoit,
    Thanks for your post and I hope your well. I noticed you've not received a reply - and I would like offer my advice.
    Shared variables are one way to communicate over the Ethernet. You can use UDP, TCP and VI Server also.
    UDP is the fastest network protocol but it includes little error handling and can lose data. TCP is commonly used for large systems. TCP takes more programming effort than shared variables, however, it provides a good mix of speed and reliability. You can use the VI server to run Vis and/or access and set the value of controls and indictors, but it is slower and not recommended for larger data sets.
    Please let me know what you think,

    In order to upgrade my computer from Windows xp to Windows 7, I lost access to firefox without thinking to generate a recovery key. Is there any way to get my data back?

    If the only thing you have paired to the account is an iPhone the answer is that unfortunately no. The iPhone client (Firefox Home) is just a "consumer" of the Sync data and can't do much.
    My best advice is to keep the iPhone synced to have access to bookmarks and manually transfer them to your new profile.
    Sorry to be the carrier of the bad news.

    If you've been making backups to icloud, then you should perform a restore to the ipad, unless you had the data on a computer, in which case you could try to restore the calendar file from a backup.

    Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  This will erase your phone.  Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your phone is new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.

  • Fastest way to access data between String and char[]

    Hi all,
    I've been programming a small String generator and was curious about the best and fastest way to do so.
    I've done it in two ways and now hope you can tell me if there is a "more java version" or fastest way between those two or if I'm totally wrong as some classe in the API already does that.
    Here are the codes:
    version 1:
            //describe the alphabet
         String alphabet = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz";
         //The "modifiable String"
         StringBuffer stringBuffer = new StringBuffer();
         //Just put the temporary int declaration outside the loop for performance reasons
         int generatedNumber;
         //Just do a "for" loop to get one letter and add it the String
         //Let's say we need a 8 letters word to be generated
         for (int i=0; i < 8; i++)
             generatedNumber = (int)(Math.random() * 26);
             stringBuffer.append(alphabet.charAt(generatedNumber));
         System.out.println(stringBuffer.toString());
         stringBuffer =null;version 2:
            //describe the alphabet
         char[] alphabetArray = {'a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e', 'f',
                        'g', 'h', 'i', 'j', 'k', 'l',
                        'm', 'n', 'o', 'p', 'q', 'r',
                        's', 't', 'u', 'v', 'w', 'x',
                        'y', 'z'}
         //The "modifiable String"
         StringBuffer stringBuffer = new StringBuffer();
         //Just put the temporary int declaration outside the loop for performance reasons
         int generatedNumber;
         //Just do a "for" loop to get one letter and add it the String
         //Let's say we need a 8 letters word to be generated
         for (int i=0; i < 8; i++)
             generatedNumber = (int)(Math.random() * 26);
             stringBuffer.append(alphabetArray[generatedNumber]);
         System.out.println(stringBuffer.toString());
         stringBuffer =null;Basically, the question is, what is the safest, fastest and more "to the rules" way to access a char in a sequence?
    Thanks in advance.

    Better, use a char[] instead of a StringBuffer/StringBuilder, since you seem to know the size of the array in advance.
    Although I imagine making "alphabet" a char[] has slightly less overhead than making it a String
    1. It's a lot clearer to write it as a String.
    2. You can just call toCharArray() on the String to get a char[], instead of writing out each char individually.
    3. Or if you're going to be using a plain alphabet, just use (randomNumber + 'a')
    And use Random.nextInt()Hello and thx for the answers,
    I know I shouldn't put constants in my code, it was just a piece of code done in 1 minute to help a colleague.
    Even if it was just a one minute piece of code, I was wondering about the performance problem on large scale calculating, I mean something like a 25 characters word for billions of customers but anyway, once again, the impact should be minimal.
    By the way, I didn't know the Random Class (shame on me, I still don't know the whole API) and, I don't understand why I should be using this one more than the Random.Math which is static and thus take a few less memory and is easier to call.
    Is it because of the repartition factor?
    According to the API, the Random.Math gives (almost) a uniform distribution whether the Random.nextInt() gives a "more random" int.

  • How to make a table copy - the fastest way????

    Hi,
    Well, I have the following task to do in the minimal possible time:
    Task: duplicate a table in my instance database. The source table name is SPC.
    The destination table name is SPC_REP. Both are partitioned.
    The trouble is my source table has 40 million rows, but I need to copy only 27 million related to a column which I will use a condition in where clause.
    Ok, so I have some questions:
    Question 1)
    What's the fastest way to provide this copy?
    Export/import, Insert into, sqlloader (this one I've never used)
    Question 2)
    I am planning to do this by export/import utility. But I don't want to waste time doing first the export process and only after all doing import process. I would like to do export and import simultaneously to save time as table has so many rows.
    Question 3)
    If I use export/import I will not be able to create the copy table on the same schema as it is my source table, correct? Correct me, if I'm wrong...
    Thank you all,
    And any hint will be appreciated.

    Export & import probably isn't the best solution here. It's not particularly fast, reuires that you create an additional copy of the data in your dump file, involves the cost of pulling all the data out of Oracle and puts it back in, etc.
    Transportable tablespaces would be an option, assuming your partitioned table isn't in the same tablespace as a bunch of other opjects.
    Personally, I would probably do a
    CREATE TABLE <<copy name>>
    AS
    SELECT *
      FROM <<original name>>
    WHERE 1=2
    INSERT /*+ APPEND */
      INTO <<copy name>>
      NOLOGGING
    SELECT *
      FROM <<original name>>
    WHERE <<something>>Justin

  • Data back up from Single User Mode

    Hello,
    I have a problem with my 700 MHz iBook, dual USB, with OS X 10.3.9.
    Unfortunately the OS doesn't start up because of "overlapped extent allocation" problem...
    I would like to re-install the complete OS but before doing it, I would like to back up some directories.
    Is it possible to save some data, by connecting an Ipod or some sort of external peripheral, from the Single User mode?
    If yes, how can I do it?
    Thank you in advance from your kind support.

    Before giving up the ghost check out these:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25770.
    Manually fix Overlapped Extent Allocation Errors without Disk Warrior
    Overlapped overlapped extent allocation errors can be the bane of any Mac user's existence. Often, these errors go unnoticed until the problem becomes visible: your Mac might refuse to boot, crash unexpected, or worse, critical data might disappear from the Finder. Disk Utility can detect, but not fix overlapped extent allocation errors, and certain third-party utilities, such as Alsoft Diskwarrior, can fix them, but generally without reporting the consequences.
    Overlapped extent allocation error occur when the file system thinks that two files are occupying the same area on the hard disk, hence overlapping on the same "inode," which is the structure which holds the location of the data blocks the file occupies, and also file permissions and flags.
    Clearing the "overlapped" or "overallocated" extent allocation essentially means that you'll have to lose some data, because the only way to remove the overlap is to delete the file that's occupying the inode. So, if you suspect, or find out, that the guilty file is a critical system file that resides in one of the hidden system directories such as /etc /var /usr/ or visible system directories such as /System or /Library, and you don't want to reinstall the whole OS (which might not fix the overlapped extent allocation anyway), it's good to have another disk available to copy the files back to your original disk if necessary: a second bootable hard drive or a firewire drive connected to your Mac when you remove the misbehaving file. Just make sure that when you copy the file back to your boot disk that the permissions are correct, so it's best to use the "ditto" command, so that all sticky bits, flags, and permissions are preserved.
    In case you didn't know, you don't have to boot from an install CD in order to check for overlapped extent allocations. All you need to do is restart your Mac, while holding down command + S to boot in "single-user mode."
    At the command prompt that appears, type:
    $ fsck -fy
    If you have an overlapped extent allocation, you'll see:
    "Overlapped Extent Allocation" (File 123456d)
    No matter how many times you run fsck -fy, you'll never be rid of the error.
    So, simply issue the following command:
    find / -inum 123456 -print
    Note the "d" was dropped, or any extra letter that appears after the inode number.
    The find will return a file name that matches with the inode number, and the path to that file. If you remove the file then the fsck will not return this error next time you run it.
    However, before you can delete the file(s) in single-user mode, you'll need to mount the file system. Type:
    $ mount -uw /
    When done, issue the "sync" command, and that will flush the write cache so that all pending writes are written from memory to the disk. Also, since most OS X 10.3 Macs use the HFS+ Journaled file system, it might be a good idea to disable the journal before booting into single-user mode by typing:
    $ sudo diskutil disableJournal /
    then re-enable it when done fixing the overlapped extents and rebooting normally:
    $ sudo diskutil enableJournal /

    If you own Disk Warrior then it should be able to repair a drive with overlapped extents.
    There are two backup utilities included in Unix - psync and rsync. You will find them in the /usr/bin/ directory. For documentation simply enter: man psync or man rsync. In order to write data while in single-user mode you need to issue the command: /sbin/mount/ -uw / (Note: there is a "space" between the "uw" and the "/".) To mount an external drive you will need to provide the mountpoint for it in place of the "/", e.g., "/Volumes/volname") without the quotes.

  • I've succesful login in old sync, but nothing synching,New Sync says unknown account on Login. How can i get my data back?

    Actually I couldn't use internet for approx 1 year. I thought My every detail is safe on FF server Now. when I am trying to sync my details in old sync, in first few attempt it can't login, but eventually it successfully logs in. but nothing is synching. So tried the same thing in New Synch. but When I try to login with same details It says unknown account. So I thought making new account with same id would overwrite data with new one. so I didn't. If there is any way I can get my data back, atleast some of it. As its quite important.

    It's "safe" when you use it as intended, for synchronizing Firefox data between multiple devices. Sync was not intended to be used as you tried to use it; as a backup medium or "cloud".

  • How to get data back from an action ?

    Hello,
    Would it be possible to get data back from an action (out of the question EO_MESSAGE & ET_FAILED_KEY )?
    For example we got an order with order positions and we need a "function" to e.g. count all positions. Because of Performance the function should not be processed each time the order is changed, read or a position is added. Instead the function should be processed only if it was called explicitly.
    Is it possible to create a kind of action which is actually counting all entries and export the number of them?
    How to mark a parameter in is_parameters as exporting?
    Is this just done by (naming-) convention?
    What is the preferred way to have “methods” with returning/exporting values?
    Regards,
    Lorenz

    Hello Lorenz,
    As you have already figured out , the Action API provides you with only the messages and failed keys if any.
    Post action execution , you can always execute a retrieve or retrive by association , to get the latest buffer snapshot , which of course would include the changes that you have made in your action.
    If you want to ensure that users have explict control on execution of your "fucntion", then of course , you should model it as an action on the BO.
    The parameter is_parameters is an IMPORTING parameter. You CANNOT use it to export anything back from the action. For importing ,  you can of course have any structure to use as the is_paramaters , which you model as the action parameter structure which modelling your BO action.
    From an external entity the only way to interact with a BO is by consuming the BO services and you are bound by the BOBF standard interfaces. Any and all data you require needs to be modelled as node attributes ( persistent or transient ) and fetched using the RETRIEVE, RETRIEVE_BY_ASSOCIATION or QUERY services.

    Indranil.

  • How can I get data back that is in the trash?

    I don't seem to be able to retreive clips or other data that end up in the trash. When I click on the trash icon contained in the app I am only given the option of Cancel or Empty. Is that it? Once the data is in there it's gone? Thanks.

    iMovie 4 trash is a sort of virtual trash in that there isn't really a location where things are put (like your system trash) but instead a representation of how much stuff you cut out of your project. If you click empty (and never due that in iMovie 4 as there is a bug that sometimes trashes your project) what happens is iMovie rewrites all the media files to get rid of the stuff you clipped or deleted.
    So there are ways to get your stuff back. One way is to select any clip and pick the restore option which will reset the clip back to the way it was before you made cuts. The downside of this is that you lose all your edits on that clip and have to redo them over if the one you wanted to undo is several edits back.
    You might try this instead. Assuming your clips are all off the clip shelf and now down on the timeline, grab all the clips on the timeline, hold down the OPTION key and then drag them all back to the Clip Pane. As you drag up there while holding the OPTION key, you should see a green circle with a ( + ) in it. This means you are making a COPY to the shelf, not moving them. Drop them on the clip shelf. Now select clips on the shelf and do a restore on them from that location. I think this will let you restore the clips to their original size on the shelf while the ones on the timeline will remain untouched. Hopefully you will find what you lost.
    In the future, the best way to edit in iM4 to avoid this sort of thing is to import all your clips normally onto the clip shelf on the upper right side. Now rather than dragging them down to the timeline (removing them from the clip shelf) and editing them, OPTION drag them to the timeline which will make a copy to the timeline rather than a move. Don't worry about drive space. When you make copies, they are not real copies (the media files are not duplicated) but instead just additional virtual copies, so you can make as many as you want with very little impact on drive space.
    Now you can edit to your heart's content on the timeline and if you ever make a mistake or need to get back a piece of clip you deleted, the full copy remains safe and unedited up and over on the clip shelf. You can always drag down additional copies if you need to get back footage or if you want to use the same footage more than once.

  • Importing XML Data Back into the Form

    I have a form that shows several subforms based on the selections the user has made while filling in the form. This is working quite well but when I import the XML data back into the form it doesn't show the subforms that have been used.
    Is there an easy way to change this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Emma

    Actually the issue may actually have to do with the fact that the connections aren't bound, but I haven't seen the data.
    I have some fairly complex forms that include both subforms and instances, have an XSD embedded and export as XML. When I import the data, everythi
    Now, that being said...
    Are your subforms "hidden" and you opt to display them upon selection of a radio button for example, or do you SetInstances()? If you're using visible=TRUE or FALSE, that may also cause some issues.
    Try this -- on Form:ready try this code:
    if(this.rawValue == "on"){ //this radio button 1
    _subform1.setInstances(1);
    _subform2.setInstances(0);
    _subform3.setInstances(0);
    else if(this.rawValue == "on"){ //this radio button 1
    _subform1.setInstances(0);
    _subform2.setInstances(1);
    _subform3.setInstances(0);
    else if(this.rawValue == "on"){ //this radio button 1
    _subform1.setInstances(0);
    _subform2.setInstances(0);
    _subform3.setInstances(1);
    else { // this is fisrt time open -- i sometimes had issues with subforms being visible on first entry
    _subform1.setInstances(0);
    _subform2.setInstances(0);
    _subform3.setInstances(0);
    Then on:Click essentially copy most of the code you put in form:ready
    if(this.rawValue == "on"){ //this radio button 1
    _subform1.setInstances(1);
    _subform2.setInstances(0);
    _subform3.setInstances(0);
    else if(this.rawValue == "on"){ //this radio button 1
    _subform1.setInstances(0);
    _subform2.setInstances(1);
    _subform3.setInstances(0);
    else if(this.rawValue == "on"){ //this radio button 1
    _subform1.setInstances(0);
    _subform2.setInstances(0);
    _subform3.setInstances(1);
    Of course this will go on top of your radio button group.
    If you are exporting to XML, it will make your life a whole lot easier, by the way, to import an XSD and bind your nodes, especially as your forms and data start to get more complex.
    Finally, you may also know this but -- unless you have Forms Server, any user that wants to export the data or import the data will need to have at least full Acrobat Professional. If you want people to be able to save data in the form but import/export isn't that important, they will need to have full Acrobat.
    I hope that helps a bit. Good luck!
