Data being used even on WiFi? Lumia 1520

I recalled this being an issue with users in the past with other devices until GDR3 fixed this. Somehow on my Lumia 1520 I used over 3GB of "Media Streaming" data according to Data Sense in the last 2 weeks. I don't see how this is possible as I'm connected to wifi 95% of the time. If I'm not connected to wifi I don't do more than send texts, a few instant messages or emails. I don't stream videos and I have both Xbox Music and auto upload of pics and videos turned off.
This concerns me greatly as I am now 680MB away from hitting my 6GB limit and I still have 9 days to go. Overage charges are BRUTAL on my carrier (Rogers). I assume that even when it shows wifi as connected it's actually not connected. I will now have to disconnect and reconnect to wifi to play it safe before I stream or view any online media with my 1520.
Anyone else seeing this issue or have any suggestions?

It is far more likely you did not notice you were on Cellular data at some point. And 680 MB in 9 days when (by your own words) you are on Wi-Fi 95% of the time should not be a problem. if your usage pattern is as you say it is (with sending SMS not even being on data anyway.
Well on average I use about 3-4GB a month previously with my Lumia 920. With my Lumia 1520 I have reached 6GB in 3 week with still just over a week to go. I've had to turn off my data completely to keep myself from overage charges. My concern is that I don't understand why data is being used while connected to wifi at home. If I have my device setup to connect to wifi automatically at home, and as you suggested, I have it set to stay connected to wifi after the screen times out.. then why is it still using data over wifi? And to make it worse the phone tricks me by showing me an active wifi connection in the status bar. So I'll be at home, comfortably surfing the next, streaming media while under the assumption that I'm connected to wifi since it shows I'm connected to wifi but in reality I'm using data. Why do I have to manually disable wifi and re-enable it just to feel assured I'm using wifi? I never had to do this on my Lumia 920.
So far in the last 4 days I've only witnessed my phone hold connection to wifi over a period of several hours twice without me manually needing to disconnect and reconnect again. But sadly, there was no obvious answer to why it worked those 2 random times that it did. Is the issue my router? Do I have a botched device that needs replacement? I've consulted others on WPCentral's forums and found several others reporting the same issue though it doesn't appear widespread. I just need to know if I need to up my data plan to 10GB to cover myself from constant overages.

I notice that sometimes (actually pretty often), my cellular data is being used even if I'm at home with Wi Fi available. At this rate, my monthly amount of gigabytes is getting used up pretty quickly. It's gotten to where I have to go into settings and turn off cellular data whenever I come home. Has anyone else had this problem?

You must be losing wifi sometimes. The iPad uses wifi, unless it's not available. Then it switches to 3/4G. Turning Off cellular is the best procedure.

Thanks Jeff, I was not aware that a template could be multi-page. (All the existing templates were 1 page)
But it worked, saving me some steps. When I was finished I renamed the document, and locked it.
Then tried to save it but could not because it was locked. I closed it, went to my Spread Sheet Folder ,
to find it, it was not there. The Finder could not find it either.
So I start over again.
I opened up Numbers and it showed my personal Numbers template folder, it contained both my new
original 4 page template and the vanished saved document!
I tried to delete the template containing these document data and could not - I had to go to the Library/Application Support/Numbers to physically remove it from this folder. Then I started over again. I Finally found out how to make it work: I can now "save as", and then lock, and it will go to place where I want it to be saved and locked.
The secret is: Click on the document title in the menu bar, and it opens up "Save as...", which works the same as in OS 10.4.11, and you can pick the place you want for saving. Once done that, you can then lock the document in the same pull down menu, and then close it.
I also found later that I can delete a template from its folder, by letting Numbers open the templates,
clicking on the one I want to remove, then go to the "Numbers Menu/File/Move to...", select "Desktop"
and from there the selected template can then be thrown into the Trash from there.
It appears now that the real fault of the Numbers software is that the "Save as" command is not available in the "Edit" or "File" pull-down menus, but hidden behind the title of the document.

Another victim of huge amounts of data being used, is downgrading a solution?

I too am one of the latest victims of skyrocketing data usage on my 2 week old iPhone 4. I randomly got a text from AT&T this morning stating that I had used 65% of my 200MB data plan in just 10 DAYS. I am on wifi for 80% of the day and at work I only check FB, twitter, and the occasional email that comes through on 3G but otherwise it's all wifi. I've read wifi isn't running when it's asleep so maybe that's the problem. I deleted my iCloud account and made my phone ancient by only getting calls. Many of you say this started with iOS5 so I was thinking that downgrading may not even be an option but a necessity. AT&T can't help at all since the data used is "consistent" yet I had 3 Blackberries and my brother's Blackberry Curve ever go/went near 100MB, and this is from the latest Blackberry phones. I still have time to return the phone and get a new one but I'm hooked on it and don't want to lose it, it's just frustrating to go through this. Has anyone successfully downgraded the OS and noticed anything?

How many email accounts are you accessing with the iPhone's Mail app?
Any accounts that support push access for received messages?
If not, is Fetch set to automatically check the account or accounts for new messages?
If the answer is yes to either question and your iPhone is not connected to a power source the entire time it is in range of an available wi-fi network the iPhone has access to or is not being actively used the entire time it is connected to an available wi-fi network, connection with the wi-fi network will be dropped. If Cellular Data is enabled, your iPhone will use the cellular data or internet network to download emails in that situation. If you have Notifcations enabled for any apps, notifications received will be downloaded via the carrier's cellular data or internet network. If your employer email account is an Exchange account, push access is supported with an Exchange account for recevied messages and for contacts and calendar events. You can turn Push access off for email but if Fetch is set to automatic, the account will be checked for new messages and new messages will be downloaded when the iPhone is not actively being used. which will be over the cellular network unless the iPhone remains connected to a power source the entire time it is connected to an available wi-fi network.
If your employer email account is an Exchange account, that is likely the culprit. Turn Push access off for received messages for starters and use Fetch set to automatic or manually.

I have 300mb data plan from at&t, and it is being used up quickly? I don't use it much.

You may want to do a bit of detective work and determine what it is that is using the data. That may help you determine the next step.
If you open the Settings app and tap Cellular, the section titled "Use Cellular Data For" will show below the app names the amount of data each app has used since the statistics were last reset. The last item in the list is "System Services" and if you tap that it will give the details of System Service usage. If it makes it easier to track, you can reset the statistics at any time at the very bottom of the Settings > Cellular screen.

Cellular data being used while connected to WIFI and not in standby

I am connected to my home WIFI on my iphone 4, but while my router is not connected to internet (so I should not have internet on my iphone), I noticed I am still receiving push notifications,
I finally read here that while on standby, wifi is turned off and 3G is used, ok.
now here is the problem, looking at the General>Usage>Cellular Usage, even if I am not on standby and I am using the phone, I have data usage (sent and recieved), I reopen the Celluar Usage and see the numbers are constantly increasing, and more strange is some (not all) of the push notification do come through (eg in my case for an app called FavFriends),
another friend of mine has a simillar problem on iphone 4s.
what is this celluar usage in the background?????

from what I knew so far, iphone should not use the 3G if wifi is connected, eventhough there is no internet on that wifi,
so in my case, if iphone is actually detecting no internet and switching to 3G, I should have internet on all apps (safari, etc..) which i dont, just data usage increasing with no internet in any apps (that is a 3G usage which is limited more than even when on standby),
and if it is not supposed to switch, it brings another question, that if 3G is used when wifi connected (with no internet), are there any background 3G usage (push notifications, etc), while wifi has internet and it is supposed to utilize the wifi internet?
so basically, I was under the assumption that 3G would not be used unless wifi is disconnected, regardless of internet access, and I dont find anything that says otherwise.

I have the weirdest problem on my device
My data plan is always set to be disable (off). I only use wifi, and never use data plan
Even so, i receive a message every day for my carrier saying they have discounted $ from my plan because i used data plan. I should receive this message only those days that i use the data plan conection.
How the **bleep** is an app or android or some system activating my data plan even if its set off ??
Can android or a third party app activate data plan? I guess not.
Does stamina change this somehow?
This immediately started the day i bought myself the Z1c. Didnt have this on my moto g or optimus hd.
i have no idea else.. i tried everything.
When i go to the screen that shows the apps that used data, its complete blank with 0,00Bytes used.

Not at all. no aps using it. It must be something that the sony device is making. didnt had this since one week ago, after i purchased the z1c, so its definetely something with this device.
Im making tests every single day to find out what could be causing this. (device is stock, no root nor unlocked BL):

remove all apns
- yet disabled:
4g - no effect
autoupdate sus - no effect
geotag the photos - no effect
sony account manager - no effect
sony taken as adm cell - no effect
removed the sony location service cell - no effect
config updater app - no effect
re setting apn - no effect
off stamina + wifi spot - testing
APN defaul (no suppl) - testing
only data apn (no mms) - testing
example:
day 7: data was off but i was charged for using it
day 8(today): data was off but i was already charged for using it

Is data being used if your phone is in sleep mode

So a few years ago my dad had told me that my phone is always connecting to cellular towers and that made me think does my phone use data even if my phone is in sleep mode or if I'm doing something on my phone that doesn't require data, is a small amount of data still being used

Yes, it will periodically do things like check for email, or perform tasks that you have authorized applications to perform in the background. Now, if you are in a location where you have a reliable wifi connection, it will typically perform these tasks over that, rather than your cellular connection.
You can bet that there is usually a little bit of cellular data usage going on during sleep, even if there's wifi, but we're probably talking about kilobytes.
That being said, you can track how much data apps are using by going to
Settings>Cellular
now, this will give you values since the beginning of time on your phone, so you can't really interpret this very well, you are best to reset those values and track it for a known period of time.

Air 2 data being used when in Air Plane Mode

I have been going through a tremendous amount of data all of a sudden. Yesterday I turned air plane mode on and just used WiFi and yet my data amount keeps increasing. WHY? It was very costly last month and will be again this coming month. When I have it in Air Plane Mode I should not be using any data.
Both the data usage on my iPad and on my account at Verizon keeps increasing even in Air Plane Mode.

Did you look in settings > cellular to see which app is using the data?
Double click on home button. Quit all apps you do not need.

Using Here navigation with Lumia 1520/W8.1 in my c...

With bluetooth activated on my phone and in the car (Hyundai i40/2012) the voice navigation do not work as expected.
Every time navigation instructions are given the car's phonesystem is activated as an incoming call which of course cannot be answered. Anyone experienced this and found a solution?
De-activating bluetooth on the phone does help and voice guidance works as expected on the phone, however this is not a good solution and I would like to have the bluetooth activated and voice guidance working through the car's speaker system as it did with my previous model (Lumia 920).
Any help will be appreciated.

I have been in contact with Nokia Care on the above subject.
Finally got the voice guidance to work after doing the following:
1. Deleting the phone from my bluetooth list in my car
2. Removing following char from my phonebook: /()
3. Deleting the bluetooth pairing from my phone
4. Re-started the phone
5. Paired to my car
6. Chosed a destination.
7. Started navigating to that destination.
8. The voice guidance working on my cars speakers.
9. Stopped navigating.
10. Chose another destination
11. Started navigating to that destination
12. The voice guidance working on my cars speakers
13. Stopped navigating.
14. Chose recent destination or a favorite destination
15. Started navigating to that destination
16. The voice guidance DID NOT WORK!!
17. Stopped navigating.
18. Went back to choosing as under 6.
19. Started navigating to that destination
20. The voice guidance DID NOT WORK!!
Conclusion:
It seems that I can get the voice guidance to work as long as I do not select destination from other than "Choose a destination". Selecting a destination from "Recent destinations" or from "Favorites" does not seem to work.
Funny, however this was not the situation before W8.1. Has anything been done with the bluetooth communication after W8?
Note:Microsoft Mobile Devices states in a FAQ on this matter that you should use the phone's internal loudspeaker for the time being. However I then have to switch off bluetooth which of course is no solution. For the time being we just have to wait until hopefully this technical problem is solved by Microsoft.

HT4528 Excess amounts of data being used.

Why is my iPhone 4 on Verizon suddenly using ridiclous amounts of data (16GB to be exact in 12 hours) when I am on wifi? Please help.

My mom has been having the same problem with her AT&T iPhone 4S. AT&T can't help. We are going to the Apple Store this afternoon to see what they say. I think it's a weird phone issue or a sim card issue. But, that's just my gut feeling. Good luck getting yours resolved.

Index not being used even with hint

For this query, I'm getting a full table scan even when specifying a hint:
