Data Cable Connector - am I missing something??
I got home a few hours ago having lashed out £109 on a brand new black ipod nano. I was very pleased when I opened it and one of the first things I noticed was that the data cable didn't have the retention release buttons on the side and was now smaller. I didn't think much of it so I plugged it in, connected it up and away I went.
When it came to disconnecting however, I thought it would simple slide out, seeing as someone has obviously taken the decision to remove these buttons on the side of the connector. However, it was very tight and I soon realised the only way would be to pull it. I did so very carefully, but even then, part of the bottom of my nano (the black oval shaped section on the bottom) started to come off! This just an hour after bringing home my shiny new nano. What the **** is this all about? Also, upon re-connecting the plug, it now feels 10 times harder to put the cable into the ipod, and I'm worried it will get worse.
Can someone explain - am I missing something obvious here? And why on earth have the cables been changed?
I agree that's unrealistically tight. If you have an older connector (even with the retaining clips) you should be able to use it instead. That, or you could return to the store and see if you can get another one. A few tries by a genius and I imagine they'll see your point right away and do what they can to accommodate you.

Hi there. I also bought an iWires mini Display port to HDMI cable and have an LG LED/LCD TV. I plugged it in to my MB Pro and followed the very small writing that came in the package and got both audio and video going. You need to change the audio settings from within System Preferences on your Mac to select your TV as the audio output.
My concern is the data latency - do you experience a delay between moving your mouse on the MBPro and the TV displaying the movement? It is only a fraction of a second, but certainly enough to be annoying, especially in a cable as expensive as the iWire. -
For iCalendar: Is there a way to schedule a repeat for an event that repeats, e.g., "the 2d Thursday of the month."? All I see are options that will repeat (every day, month, year, etc.) on a given date. Am I missing something?

i think that the main reason this is happening is because its trying to find:
Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver").newInstance();
while the driver connector/j 3.1.11(which is the latest on www.mysql.com)is providing a class name:
com.mysql.jdbc.Driver
so i looked and found a very old connector driver: mm.mysql.2.0.12
which is providing name class: org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver.
the problem is still there though...
Am i missing something????

I have a 2010 13" Macbook pro. It was refurbished when bought in 2011, and I've had it since May of 2011. The first time I had the flashing folder with a question mark was about a year after it was bought in summer 2012, and the data cable connecting the hard drive and motherboard was replaced. I have now had the issue two more times, once in March 2013 and again March 2014. All three times I had the flashing folder with a question mark, and all three times the data cable was the issue. While I am glad the issue has not been the hard drive itself, I am really peeved that I keep having this issue, and have to be without a computer for at least a week while it's being diagnosed and repaired.
I read some other forums and the cable seems to be a fairly common issue, but I am wondering why I have had this issue 3 times in the last year and a half. I keep my computer on a cooling pad because I thought the heat caused the problem the first time, and I take very good care of it. Does any one have any ideas what could cause the data cable to have issues? Could it be something I am doing, or have I just been unlucky and gotten faulty cables? I don't want to have to replace this every year, it's getting a little ridiculous.

Problem With Nokia 6300 USB DATA CABLE OPTION Not ...
Hi, I have a Nokia 6300 v.5.00. My problem is when
I connect my phone using a mini usb cable to the pc, USB Data Cable option on my phone is not highlighted, so I can't use the pc suite mode functions etc. I tried 3 different computers with Windows XP SP3 and 3 different good quality mini usb cables but still to no avail. The options like data mode, nokia pc suite mode still doesn't seem to appear. I also tried different USB slots in these 3 computers still no luck. Can anybody tell me what's the problem? I am using nigpib version 6 with RedHat Linux 6.2. I am having problems talking to my instruments. Two devices a Keithley Multimeter 2001 and an IO TECH dac488hr refuse to communicate. Their remote lights go on but I get an EBUS error when doing ibwrt to either. Two other devices an SRS850 lockin amplifier, and an ESI model 73 precision transformer respond to commands well enough but I get an EAB0 error returned. I recognize the problems have to do with timeout. I have changed ibtmo to various settings but continue to get errors. I have tried to be careful setting the EOS and EOI attributes for each device but clearly I am missing something. Any suggestions?
In the past I used the LLP gpib driver and don't recall gett
ing these kinds of problems. I was going to port over my old code to talk with the instruments but I see that there is some rather sigificant differences in the way you do business. For one under LLP Clausi set up a /dev/gpib0/master device through which commands were passed. In addition he had a /etc/gpib.conf file and loaded his module via insmod in rc.d. You, on the other hand, set up /dev/gpib, /dev/gpib0, /dev/gpib1/, /dev/gpib2, /dev/gpib3, /dev/gpibdebug and /dev/dev0 /dev/dev1 etc (where dev# is a device configured with ibconf). What are the relationships between your strategies? What must I do to port my old software to my newer linux OS and use your drivers rather than those from LLP?

I spoke with the vendors of the instruments which are giving the EBUS error. They walked me through the setups (especially wrt to EOS and EOI). They were confused as to why the instruments failed to respond.

using the SRS850 Lockin Amplifier has an added advantage. It will show the input and output queues on the screen. When I command this instrument I can watch as it receives its instructions. The commands are going through correctly (NOTE: this device also gives an EAB0 error).
I have tried different cables, different machines, different DMA settings, different interrupts, different instruments, different ibtmo values, different cards, single devices on short cables, but keep getting errors.
I have used the ibic webpage (setting ibsre 1, etc) and these work fine but the devices still complain.
3) Give the version of Linux I am using...
We are running Redhat 6.2, kernel version 2.2. We have older versions of the Linux OS which are running the LLP gpib driver for the SAME devices and it works fine. I would rather not go back to older versions if possible, besides since NI has done the Linux gpib driver, it appears that LLP has dropped support. In particular, I cannot get their drivers to compile in Redhat 6.2 and get no response from my emails. I would be willing to move to newer versions of Linux if that would solve the problem.
I have confirmed the following:
The ibtsta program says the driver is installed correctly (run without the gpib cable attached.)
Interrupts, dma, iports are unique and without contention.
The gpib card responds to commands (eg using ibic.)
Some devices respond in a fashion, others fail. But all seem to receive signals from the computer.
The instruments and cables attached to the system are sound.
The gpib card, cables, and devices respond correctly from a dual boot machine running WinNT and Linux (i.e. no movement of cables, devices, or cards). On the WinNT side the recently downloaded NI drivers work and I can communicate (with the Keithley 2001) flawlessly.
I am must now ask whether the driver is at fault. I understand the drivers are beta, but these appear to be the only workable drivers out there. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

Paste in Place in Photoshop CS6 is not working, am I missing something?

I've been using the Creative Suite since CS4, but still count myself as a beginner.
I'm building a psd file with vectors from an ai file. I recall that in CS5 and CS5.5 I had no issue copying a vector from Illustrator and then using "paste in place" to land it in the same relative spot on the Photoshop canvas. Today, my world has crumbled! Try as I might, I cannot get my vector shapes to "paste in place".
I am using Windows 7, service pack 1, and CS6 64 bit edition. Both Illustrator and Photoshop were entirely up to date as of today, and I'm in the midst of doing a reinstall, just in case that helps anything. I have already tried dumping the preference file, to no avail.
Having taken a look through the forums, it seems that Illustrator's clipboard has been handling data differently somehow, and I'm pondering whether this might be the culprit of my issue. However, copying and pasting in place within Illustrator seems to work fine, problems only arise when I copy from Illustrator into Photoshop.
I feel that I am likely missing something easy to overlook, and I would greatly appreciate some help.

Even though I thought I recalled having done this in the past, I guess I must be mistaken.Illustrator has a different origin behavior. There is a global origin and a per artbord origin. you need to fix the problem in AI.

FRUSTRATED:Simple Tasks - Am I missing something or does iTunes fall short?
So last night I became VERY frustrated because I attempted the SIMPLE TASK OF COPYING MP3 files to a flash card and ran into SEVERAL snags...
I wanted to copy just my MP3 files (not AAC) and ran into the following snags:
1) I COULD NOT FIND ANY WAY to burn songs or play list to ANYTHING other than CDs and I had way more data to transfer than would fit on a CD. Isn't there ANY WAY to copy songs to a flash drive?
2) I couldn't find a way to select Full Album from the album list. I just wanted to view "Album View" as to choose from artists and pick an ENTIRE album skip a few pick a few more ENTIRE ALBUMS, skip a few, etc. I could not find a way to select an ENTIRE album from the Album List without selecting EACH song INDIVIDUALLY. It IS the ALBUM LIST chy can't you select an entire ALBUM? Am I missing something?
3) Then when I tediously selected about 40 albums (song by tedious song) it wouldn't copy them over. Apparently it was too much data to handle. So I had to reselect albums in groups of 10 (song by tedious song). Is it true iTunes can't handle more than a few MB of data at a time?
4) After this tedious FLASH card backup I synced my iPod and low and behold I couldn't sort by GROUP which is how I classified all my music since A) every time I set a custom GENRE and tags, it would default back to the often WRONG GENREs that Apple had assigned after "GETTING TRACK INFO or ALBUM ARTWORK." Isn't there any way to sort by GROUPS on the iPod? Is there any way to assign CUSTOM GENRES and not have them go back to the default and often wrong default settings that iTunes assigned?
i think those were ALL SIMPLE TASKS that iTunes SHOULD have been able to accomplish quite easily. But apparently not! If I am missing something, please enlighten me.

Why does iTunes break up some albums into a few songs at a time and not others? I can't get them back together unless I select COMPILATION, which it might not necessarily qualify as?
Half of my CDs I copied over to iTunes sound great on the computer but tinny and play through the right speaker only. What settings should I use, because the default ones don't sound good.
Why does iTunes keep CONSTANTLY interrupting/stalling my computing when it is just copying CDs. I thought the whole point of selecting COPY CD and EJECT in the preferences was to eliminate this. [I'm running on a brand new MacBook Pro with MAXIMUM memory available]
The icing on the cake is that I couldn't finay ANY MANUALS for iTunes on the APPLE.COM site and only incredibly rudimentary video tutorials that cover little. I also have the official Apple book on iTunes whih doesn't cover ANY of these topics

Just find the tracks in iTunes, mount the flash drive, and drag the tracks from the iTunes window to the flash drive. Or find them in the iTunes Music folder and drag them to the flash drive.

Turn on the Browser view; View menu -> Show Browser. The you can just click on an artist and then click on the album.

Make sure that the album titles are exactly the same. Even an extra space will make it a separate album to iTunes.

Why won't the data cable charge my iPad when connected to pc
For some reason when I connect my iPad to my pc with the supplied data cable it won't charge the iPad. It syncs ok but just won't charge it.
Is there a reason for this or do I need to get a different cable?
When I connect my iPhone to the pc with data cable from iPad, it charges my iPhone.
I just really need to know why it therefore won't charge my iPad.
The only way I can charge iPad up at the moment is by connecting it to the mains plug with data cable suppliedBravo Blues#2. I often wonder what happens to some people when wrapped in the blanket of anonymity. Rather than use the faceless forum of an online discussion group to show the best in human nature, so often people become nasty, arrogant, or just plain anti-social.

On another note, I consistently have a problem charging my iPads with any cable other than the short cable
supplied by Apple. I have purchased over a half dozen ten foot cables and they will charge my iPod and iPhone just fine. I have tried exchanging the cables, the chargers and the iPads. With every charger I reach the same result, I cannot find a ten foot cable that will charge my iPad. I could probably go to Apple and buy a cable from them, but they are SO expensive.
Suggestions? What, other than length, is the difference between the short cables that come with the device and the longer cables I keep getting from eBay?

Data cable not listed as a Data Bearer in Nokia 66...
I have a Nokia 6630 with Firmware V 4.03.18 04-03-05 RM-1. I cannot synchronize with my PC using the PC Sync feature because while creating the sync profile on my phone it does not allow me to add Data Cable as a Data bearer. The only 2 options I have for Data Bearer is Web and Bluetooth. I am using the latest Nokia PC Suite which is 6.84.10.4. I can however synchronize using bluetooth.
Is there a resolution to this problem?Arthur,
Great idea, I verified that the Integration Services for 2012 was not installed. I installed the new SSIS service and verified that SQL Server Integration Services 11.0 was running (previously only 10.0 was running.)
Initially, I experienced an error message trying to run my simple script above:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Tools.Applications.Core, Version=10.0.0.0,...
I followed the steps at the MS link for Could not load file or assembly ‘Microsoft.VisualStudio.Tools.Applications.Core’
and loaded the missing x64 runtime from edist/VSTA/runtime/x64/VSTA_RT30.msi
on the distribution media as recomended.
The script ran, but returned the error listed in the beginning of this message. I then tried:
- turning off the 10.0 service
- setting the project's Run64BitRunTime value both false and true
- changing the reference to Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS.dll from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\SDK\Assemblies to C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS\v4.0_11.0.0.0__89845dcd8080cc91
all of these resulted in the same failure.
Thank you for the suggestion, I really thought it would be on target. Alas, it wasn't the fix.
It is so weird that all the other stuff I'm doing (a very elaborate programmatic package generator doing some tricky stuff,) works fine and only this super basic logging fails!!!!

I feel like I really missed something somewhere...
So I was watching Family Guy last night using Xine (I like menus), and I noticed that the quality was really bad, so I cranked up the deinterlacing, and once my CPU topped 100%, the quality was "acceptable".
But then I was cooking, so the menus annoyed me (it doesn't have a play all button), so I used mplayer with this command: "for i in `seq 2 9`; do mplayer dvd://${i} -dvd-device /dev/hdc -vo xv; done", and the picture quality was perfect (note the lack of any deinterlace filters).
So I wondered why Xine was giving me such crap quality, and I noticed that "Video Device" was set to "Auto" (which I always thought meant it picked xv over all of the others), but I changed it to "xv", and now I get the same quality as mplayer without any deinterlacing.
Now, I swear a few years ago when I was fiddling with that kinda thing, I had to use deinterlacers with "xv" to get the same quality as I get now (using just xv alone). So, does xv now use my graphics cards onboard MPEG-2 decoding, or does xv have it's own deinterlacer, or does something else happen? I really feel like I missed something somewhere...1. Triple-click the line below to select it:

I've been scouring the web for examples of using PHP to
access data from MYSQL. My issue is there is no real security model
mentioned accept form weborb. All requests are made via POST to a
php page, which anyone could make a page and post variables to to
get data. Am I missing something obvious here? How can i secure my
flex application and the php pages it uses to retrieve and assign
data?I think that i was missing something quite obvious. I was
assuming that requests were made via POST, instead of RemoteObject,
which can evoke a php class directly. Even if a user could get to
the php file via a web browser, they can't evoke a function/method
in a class. I got Weborb working beautifully to make the connection
and call the function.
As a side note, if anyone reading has had trouble getting
weborb working on an actual server for development, let me tell ya
that It's much easier to setup a local environment (like MAMP or
WAMP), get your program running and then transport it to your
server.
Also as a side note for anyone trying to make sure weborb is
secure, AMF (but more specifically the RemoteObject) operates as a
server call, not a user call. So setting up protection (.htaccess
or the like) for the entire weborb folder won't break your scrips.
And won't let anyone go in a play with your configuration either.
(This is the case even for a non-weborb class) -
Connect HP Docking Stn to Macbook with Expansion Cable Connector?

I have an HP xB4 docking station with an Expansion Cable Connector. I have a macbook pro which doesn't have a slot that the docking station cord fits into. Does anyone know if there is a converter or something that I could use so I can use the dock?
Thankyou for any info...No. It would be pointless for anyone to make an adapter for the cable. The adapter would have to connect separately to every port on the MBP, and combine all of those cables into one connector that the docking station would plug into. No one would want to make all those connections every time they came home with their notebook computer and sat down to use it. If one were going to do that, why not just plug the peripherals themselves into the computer and save $250?
HP evidently provides a unique proprietary port on its notebooks for the docking station to connect to. That's a very nice feature for the few users who will ever buy docking stations, but for everyone else it just adds cost, size, weight, and one more thing that can break or be damaged. -
Upsert of xmltype from given xpath - missing something obvious?

I am trying to do an upsert (update/ insert ) of an xmltype for a given xpath.
The xml data is being passed as an xmltype, the xpath is a string (varchar2), the new value is a string, varchar2.
If the node specified by the xpath exists this is trivial using updatexml; of course if the node doesn't exist nothing happens. I can check for the nodes existence using exists node, but I'm coming unstuck trying to figure out how to insert the node.
All the APIS I can find that insert XML (APPENDCHILDXML,INSERTXMLBEFORE, INSERTCHILDXML) do not take an xpath but require an xmltype. Which means if I am reading this right I have no choice but to parse the xpath varchar2 string to try and construct an xmltype (ugh!).
I can't find any API that just takes an xpath as a varchar2 and a value and gives me an xmltype. Ideally I don't even want that, would just like an API that returns the updated XML which has either had the xpath updated (or inserted if it didn't exist) with the new value.
I am not an XML expert but I am pretty handy with SQL and PL/SQL. To me this just seems incredibly cumbersome just to do something as trivial as an upsert, so I am hoping I am missing something obvious!
Can soemone please set me straight with a pointer or example?
