Data charges when device not in use

Last month I received a bill for over $950 in data overage fees.
When I contacted Verizon for an explanation, it turned out no one could tell me day by day what the charges were.  Essentially I was told, your device, your use, your charges.
Eventually, someone contacted their fraud department on my behalf, and I was told there was no one else using my device. I don't even know how they could determine this.
I was also told there was use during times the device would not have been in use unless someone was somehow hacking into it without my knowledge and clearly without my consent.
So far, I have been told that Verizon may be willing to work with me on these overage charges, but all I get when I ask for help is told the particular person I am talking with cannot help me, but maybe I can try another department.
I have spoken with management who likewise passed me off to someone else.
I am wondering if anyone else out there has had similar problems with Verizon?  Has anyone found anyone who has helped them through a billing matter like this?  I am thinking either this is a billing error or someone can access my device without me knowing about it, and from far away, as no one can get that close without me knowing about it.
Help, anyone?

  • Data charges when phone not used

Had problem with my Curve 8330. Roller ball stuck and phone froze. Was out of service until I got an exchange phone on Dec. 24. Didn't use the phone but was charged for data usage on Dec. 25. Replacement phone is the same in data usage charges. I'm older person so I have never used the web to surf but have been charged in excess of $197 for a month in data usage. Don't know how to watch tv, movie or listen to music. Why is this happening on days when I know I was not using the phone? I use the phone to text and sometimes check Facebook. My plan has 7 megabytes of data included but since I have had refurbished phones the data usage is skyrocketing.

  • HT1476 My ipod touch only charges when im not using it, when i use it, it doesnt bring up the charging symbol

My ipod touch only charges when its not in use and doesn't come up with the charging symbol. Please help cheers

First try another charging source. Maybe the source yo are using is not putting out enough pwere when the screen is on.
    Next try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • My brand-new iPod touch (5th Gen) battery takes a very long time to fully charge, even while not in use. Why is this and what should I do?

Just recently bought a brand-new iPod touch, 5th generation. To be exact, got it two days ago, this past Saturday, on 12/13/2014. Initially, when I first turned it on, it had a fully charge and I didn't need to charge it. I also didn't see anything in the very small and limited start-up guide you receive with it to charge it for a certain amount of time before use, or to use it until the battery dies, then charge all the way, like a lot of electronic devices have you do when you first purchase them.
So I was assuming I didn't need to do anything like that. First question, should I have charged it for a period of time before use? Should I have used it until the battery died, then plugged it in and charged it fully before use? Or is none of this necessary initially and iPod batteries are good to go from the start?
Please excuse me if this is an obvious question, as this is my first ever iPod. Anyways, like I said, nothing in the "instructions" said anything about that, so I didn't do it, I just used it until it got below 20% battery left, then I plugged it in.
Now for the battery itself, it takes literally a day or so to fully charge, even while not in use. Even if I use it for a while, turn off the iPod to make sure it shuts off all background data and apps, and then plug it in to charge, it still charges extremely slowly. I've never seen a device take this long to charge. As for the battery life itself, I'd say at full charge it lasts about 4-5 hrs, maybe 6, and then I have to charge it again. Meanwhile it takes around 24 hours, without me using it, to fully charge. If I use it while its charging, the battery decreases faster than it charges, and eventually I'll get the typical "20% battery remaining" message pop up.
I know it is charging, as the lightning symbol is next to the battery symbol. Specifically, right now, I plugged it in about 1 hr 30 minutes ago, and it has barely gone up. Also, whenever I press the home button to check the battery, I can see it jump down from about 50% to somewhere around 25%-30%. What is that about?
This is really frustrating, and I'm seriously contemplating either taking it back and trying my luck with a different iPod, or just taking it back and getting my money back. Any help and clarification on this matter would be greatly appreciated, and I'll answer any questions I can to shed more light on this.

It will take longer to charge the 5G's battery than either the 3G or 4G's battery.

  • HT4995 Internationally using Location Services without having data charges.  What settings should use on my iPhone 5?

I'm traveling to Europe and I want to use Location Services without having data charges.  What settings should use on my iPhone 5?  I want to be able to use Trip Advisor City Guides Application to tour around cities for free.  I have a Verizon International Plan for my trip, but it is still pricey.  I would like to keep my iPhone cell services on for incoming calls, but I want to prevent international data charges.  Thanks for your help!

You don't "choose" to use th 3g network.
If you have paid for it in your plan and 3g coverage is available, your phone will automatically use it when necessary.
3g provides faster internet speeds than 2g, so you can watch video or download stuff faster. Wifi is normally faster than 3g.
Your iphone gps is "assisted", meaning it uses network data to calculate your position.
Also, you would still need the network to download maps, directions etc as they are not on your device.

No. All Apple power supplies are "universal". They will work anywhere in the world. You just need a plug adapter.

why does my ipod touch keep charging when im not charging it ex. 77%  78% help me please

All batteries recover a bit when they sit for a little while.  Also most iPod battery apps register only in 5% increments, because it is hard to really be accurate to the single percent.  Just because yours shows in 1% increments does not mean it is actually accurate to that level.

  • 80gb Classic won't sync or charge; "USB Device Not Recognized"

I have an 80gb classic, and a 5th gen. 30gb ipod both with the same issue. I recently rebuilt mine and my husband's computers with new MB's and Processors. I reformatted the HDD's and then installed all necessary drivers and the like along with the newest itunes 9. My ipods had no previous problems and worked like a charm 5 mins earlier.
I hooked them up to my computer and windows came up with an error message saying "USB Device Not Recognized...one of the usb devices has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it." I put in my other ipod, same error message.
I have tried everything to fix this including, unplugging all usb's but ipod and trying all usb ports, reinstalling usb drivers, switching to 1.1, uninstalling itunes completely and using older versions 5-8, wiping OS and installing vista instead of XP, putting ipod into disk mode, resetting ipod numerous times, among some other things. This error message comes up on all computers in the house (4) including ones that have not been wiped or upgraded.
In addition to windows and itunes not seeing it, it will not charge via USB or wall AC power. The Ipods are devoid of charge now, but when they were full on battery life they still played music through headphones and stereo with no issues, they just won't do anything computer related it seems.
I have not given up hope because I have about 20gb of music and vids I foolishly didn't back up and I want it back. How is this possible that 2 ipods were fine one second then broken the next? Please, Please, Please need help.

I have a Dell Laptop that I've been synching my iPhone with for six months. Now all of the sudden the connection has been lost. I'm having the same problem as you describe and have tried everything I have seen on this forum and elsewhere to fix it, but nothing is working.
I think it is an issue with the driver, but I have confirmed that usbaapl.sys driver is installed in "Program Files," "Common Files," "Apple," "Mobile Device Support" folder. I tried copying the driver and putting it in the main Apple folder, but that doesn't help either. I have tried removing and reinstalling iTunes multiple times, rebooting my iPhone and computer (many, many times). I've tried updating the driver and pointing the USB device directly to the driver, but it does not see it. The strange thing is that when my iPhone is plugged in, it charges just fine. It just won't connect to iTunes or synch with my outlook anymore.
Does anyone have any suggestions? This is a major issue for me as I have to synch calendars to be able to function between work and home. Doubly frustrating that it used to work and now it does not. The only thing that has changed is that I installed printer software and updated iTunes. No other changes to my computer that I am aware of between when it worked and now.

  • Why do I get data charges when I am always connected to Wi Fi

I had some enormous media charges from AT & T this month and I generally only use my iPhone for phone calls and occassionally for internet when I am at home and connected to Wi Fi.
Did not get any kind of explantion from AT & T.  Basically they said they cannot tell whether I was sending or receiving, etc.
They did say that when the phone turns off it defaults to 3G and can be receiving data.
Can anyone shed any light on this and how I can minimize data usage?
    Thanks,

    Thanks,
There could be several reasons.  Roaming charges if you were out of your area and didn't turn data roaming off.  Also, if your phone is doing things like updating your backup on iCloud when on 3G, data charges can increment rather quickly.  If your phone didn't have a wi-fi connection at the time, it will use 3G.  If you have push email, any time you are not on wifi, then it will use 3G for that too.  You can check you AT&T data usage on their website.  I keep a watch on my wife's usage, and warn her if it gets near the limit.  I have an unlimited data account, although I very rarely go over 200 meg.
You can turn 3G data off, if you want to gain control of this.

  • Nokia e65, USB device not recognized using windows...

    Hello,
When I am trying to connect e65 to pc  I always get "USB device not recognized". I tried to reinstall nokia pc suite, after that I've restarted phone and PC but it doesn't help. I tried to install older nokia pc suite versions and it doesn't help too. I'am using CA-53 cable.
P.S. I tried to reinstall only Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver but nothing happened..
Maybe someone has a solution for this?

    @techvitalie
Is it only as Windows USB mass storage device that it is not recognised by PC or same issue if connected in PC Suite mode with PCSuite/Ovi Suite installed?

  • Need to pass in line charges when cancel order line using API?

    Hi,
Do we need to pass in line charges (charges, freight cost) when cancel order line using Oe_Order_Pub.Process_Order API?

I found the answer to my own question:
Yes it is a supported feature. It is documented on the following page:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/desktop/NativeApp lication.html#event:invoke
When you subscribe to the invoke event of the NativeApplication it will subsequently dispatch the event and you read the e.arguments Array object to get the startup arguments passed into the native application.

The battery meter is really just an estimate
    However, you can calibrate it

  • Downloading iCloud songs to play on iPhone when wifi not available uses way too much data

When I am out of town (camping) or away from a wifi site and want to play a song with the iCloud symbol, I have to use a lot of data - I'd like songs to be available to me to play whenever I want without having to download or be near a wifi site...help!

We are in the same boat.  Got our daughter a 5S in February, it came with iOS 7.1 and it consistently uses at least double, if not tripple the amount of data that her 4S did (with 7.1 loaded).  She uses the same apps that she did before, no more, no less.  We have done ALL the tweaks recommended on the various boards, shut off cellular to apps, etc.  We have been arguing with AT&T (our provider) and Apple.  AT&T states that the usage is the usage and what is being reported by the device.  We have been to Apple and had the phone wiped clean and new iOS 7.1 loaded.  As a test with the 5S, with everything off cellular except Safari, I reset the statistics to 0 and then went to three websites (google, ask, webcrawler).  I then used my personal iphone 4S (on verizon), reset the statistics and went to the same three websites.  The 5S used more than double the data that the 4S did to load the same pages.
(I went to the pages first prior to resetting the statistics so that they would be cached)
Can anyone explain this?   The Apple Genius tech could not and replaced the device.  Guess what.....  The new device does the same thing.
I am so disgusted with this whole thing AT&T <----- | -----> Apple.......  No answers.  Its obviously a problem..  Either Device, iOS (starting with 6) or communication between device and networks (Sim Card?)
Has anyone ever solved this since it arose in 2012??
