Data conversion of material BOM by LSMW

Hi,
Right now I try to work on LSMW setting for data conversion of material BOM. However, I forgot how to set
the linkage of BOM header & item at LSMW since my last
experience was 1 year ago. I have set up 2 source structures, BOM_HD (header) & BOM_IT (item) from 2 files. Both source
structures contain one same source field, BOM_ID. From this identical BOM_ID field, the linkage of BOM header and items is set up between 2 files. Can
anyone know how to make the setting at LSMW ?

hello nancy,
their is no need of getting seperate reacording for both header and item. it will be enough if with only one in th lsmw in the first step u select the direct input method
and at source structure level create two strucutres such that one can be for header and the other would be for item
then in the same way while specifying file give first the header file and then the item file.
at the same step check whether the convert data is getting the logical path and file name or not if u dont then double click at that possition and create it. then ur recording will be done perfectly.

You can go for either of these two methods.Conversion in the sense you are going to create one upload program for MM01 and will upload the data using the program
But I suggest go for BDC.Because in LSMW you can not capture all the views for material master.
I am writing steps(BDC recording) for this.Just follow if helpful:
1.Go to SHDB t-code.
2.Press NEW RECORDING
3.enter recording name,Transaction code(MM01) and then press Start recording.
This will take you to the transaction MM01,please enter the test data given by your functional consultant.Also select the views that required by client.
4.After recording save it.
5.After saving press program button from the menu.
6.This will take you SE38 with the recording code.
7.Then you do as per normal BDC program,declare internal table and map with the uploaded fields.

End valid to data of material BOM

In the moment that you create a new material BOM using transaction CS01,
have you any chance to introduce a date in the field " Valid to" ?

1.While creating the BOM,you can give a valid From date(A Future Date).
2.The systems defaulty sets the valid to date as 31.12.9999.
3.This can not be changed,or can be modified unless you use ECN.

Data conversion from legacy : through BOM or recipe for a process industry?

I am working on data migration document for BOM , ROUTING, PROD VER. My question is whether during migration from legacy we should first migrate the Recipe and add the comp no for creating BOM in mass creation , Or that we should bring the BOMs directly from the legacy? Which method is better from strategic point ?

for migration into CRM I would suggest the 'XIF-Interfaces'; these are interfaces provided in CRM for connection to external systems. I'm not sure if this will cover all objects mentioned above, but at least some of them should exist.
Some information about existing interfaces can be found in the integration repository under http://ifr.sap.com/index.html; from the start screen first select 'Enter the repository' and then have a look under 'generic components' and 'SAP CRM'.

XI for new data conversion?

Hello experts,
You recommendations please on data conversion with XI versus using the LSMW tool?
We are working on a new implementation, planning to use XI for the interfaces anyway. Now the idea is to use XI for all dataconversion from the legacy systems.
Good idea, not suitable, better to use LSMW?

The response to this question cannot be a general answer, because it depends on several aspects. I'll try to order by importance.
1 - What kind of files do you have for material and BOM creation? XML files?
XI is a powerfull tool for transfer that kind of files. With an ABAP proxy, you can easily decompose a XML file into a strucuture in ABAP, so it's easy to import files. To send, is also easy. You fill a structure and XI will convert it to a XML file and sent to the respective receiver, using it's communication channel. So, if it's XML, I would say YES, use XI. If not, XI only can copy those flat files and that way it's not easy to get it's data in a proxy. You can copy those file to a directory and import files with a program, but, if so, why using XI for your purpose? Or you can do some mappings to convert flat file into XML file ... the mapping can be easy or very difficult.
2 - Experience in XI or LSMW? And Urgence?
This question is important. If you have experience in one of those tools, you should use it. As far as I can catch from your post, XI is a new tool for you, right? To master XI is a process that will take you some time ... not too much ... but consider this part too in your decision. However, since you will start using XI for interfaces, this could be a good start!
3 - Many other reasons can be found in the link that Murthy provided, but this two should be the most important (in my opinion).

Material BOMs with document items using RCSBI010

Has anyone uploaded material BOMs with document items using RCSBI010? I set the item category to D, but receive an error in LSMW when I attempt to convert the data. The error specifies that the document items are not valid material numbers. They are not material numbers. They are document info records.

Found the problem. The document number was being mapped to BOM Component IDNRK instead of document number DOKNR.

the question which ou have asked is really very broad. so let me give some idea regarding the planning of data conversion. first of all you should identify which all objects you want to be transfered to SAP, obviously In MM material master, inforecord source list e.tc. then you need to decide which SAP tool you will be using to upload these data like LSMW, CATT e.t.c.
once it is decided what and how you are going to transfer then comes the Functional spec for data conversion in which you will give the details of data mapping in SAP. these FS will be translated to Tech Spec by technical consultant.
Test Planning,
first of all you will decide what type of testing you want to cary out like String test, Unit test, and integration test but these are decided by the testing team not Func consultant but anyway once it is decide how many level of testing is carried out then as a func consultant you will have to create test scenario for integration testing,

Data conversion strategy for new SOB

We are creating a new SOB with a change in currency from Feb-11 as this is the requirement
For the same, we need to do data conversion.
I have a confusion for Purchase Orders and Sales Orders
Purchase Orders:
Open purchase orders will be converted, means the unfulfilled PO`s i.e the ones not received and are fully open.
The PO`s which have been recieved but not delivered, Requested the users to clear the intransit receipts.
The PO's which are partially received, what to be done for them?
If a PO is fully received and Delivered will not me converted to the new SOB as its not an open PO
but If invoice comes after Feb-11, than how the matching will be done?
What if a return has to be made moving forward in FEB-11 under new SOB
Sales Orders:
Open sales orders will be converted, that is the ones that have been entered and not yet booked.
Users have been requested to clear off the Sales order lines which are already pick confirmed but not yet shipped, hence they will be shipped and interfaced to AR
For the Sales orders that have been booked, those lines that are not yet processed further will also be converted.
Now what if a receipt comes after feb 11, how to handle this as the sales order wiould not have been converted?
Please give your advise on the data migration strategy for PO`s and SO's.

How to change the header of Material BOM in a program for alternative BOM ?

Requirement: An Inbound IDOC creates /change/delete Alternative Material BOM. The Alternative Material BOM can have alternative values from 1 to 99.
ISSUE: I am good with CREATE and DELETE BOM. The issue is with CHANGE of header Material BOM. The fields which we need to change in the header is the base quantity, BOM status, Lot Size from and Lot Size to. Please note that I am able to change the item details of the BOM with FM CSAI_BOM_MAINTAIN. I find no FM /BAPI which would change the header of a material BOM.
Please NOTE that I am using BAPI_MATERIAL_BOM_GROUP_CREATE to create alternative Material BOM. This has a parameter in TABLES called "VARIANTS" which has a field CS_FUNCTION which can have value from NEW/CHG/DEL .Also ,there is another parameter in TABLES called "ITEMASSIGNMENTS" which has a field CS_FUNCTION which can have value from NEW/CHG/DEL which implies this FM will allow us to change the BOM. But this does not work when I use it for CHANGE scenario with CHG value. I debugged this BAPI and observed it requires a STNLR(Bill of Material) value . This field is not there in any of the structure. I am not sure if I am passing the right parameters to it.
Let me know if the parameters are passed correctly for CHANGE scenario.
Also let me know if there is any other way(FM/BAPI) to update the Header of the Material BOM ?

Try doing something like this:

thanks for all your inputs. My requirement has somewhat changed over the last 24 hrs. What it stands as of now is that for a material and a plant there exists a bom (with items and sub-items).
I have to retrieve this data and create a new BOM for a different plant.
The first step would be to retrieve all the BOM data from STKO STPO and STPU. Is there any FM that would retrieve all these data
What FM would i then use to create a new BOM
