Data coverage?

I'm really hoping that someone can explain to me why there has been, and remains, a HUGE white hole in Verizon's data coverage map over the area where I live just northeast of St. Louis.  This is a growing area and it puzzles me as to why Verizon would not invest some resources in this area as it is a very noticeable void in the otherwise fairly solid red footprint they have over the entire nation.  We have adequate voice and text coverage using other networks with our Verizon phones, but our data is listed as "extended 1x".  Just wishing that they would actually do something about it.  Does anyone know if there are any resources out there to explain why this has not happened and if there are any plans in place to extend their coverage into our neck of the woods?

My zip code is 62052 and I have a Samsung Galxy S3 Mini.  WE are perpetually roaming out here and there isn't a Verizon tower for quite a few miles.  There is a tower less than 3 miles from my home (in rural Medora, Illinois) that was built over 5 years ago by an independent tower company and not one single company has leased space on that tower.  If I owned my own land here, I would for sure be contacting Verizon to have them come take a look at my location for a tower!  It just gets frustrating that we are with a great company like Verizon and can't get data except on wifi.

  • Poor data coverage, Amherst MA town center

Experiencing very poor data coverage, including regular texts, in downtown area of Amherst, MA.  Most of rest of town has good LTE coverage, but past couple of months signal drops to a 1G in the town center, and can rarely get any data to pass, sometimes even basic texts come back as undeliverable.  I have asked others and they say they have the same problem, so not just my phone (IPhone 5).  Being in public safety and working downtown this is a big issue.  It used to be much better coverage here.  I let it go for awhile thinking they were working on a  tower or something but it has now been a couple of months at least.  Looking for an official phone number or email to report it to Verizon but cannot find one.

KindaUnhappy , I'm sorry you're having issues with your signal. I understand how frustrating it can be to have a phone and cant use the internet which is very important. I recommend power cycling periodically, performing a battery pull, clear the cache and browser history periodically, and close apps your not using daily. I will list steps below. Are your issues occuring inside or outside? Have you every performed a  hard reset on your phone?
    1) Steps to clear cache/browser history http://tiny.cc/k6jwkw
    2) Steps to clear temporary internet files http://tiny.cc/p7jwkw
    3) Steps to perform a factory rest http://tiny.cc/b9jwkw
Please let me know if the above steps help resolve your issue.

  • Report poor data coverage

Where can I report poor data coverage for my verizon 4G LTE hotspot?
    Salem Oregon, 97305.
Specifically the Corner of Cordon Rd and Hazelgreen Rd NE.  A little place called EZ Orchards has very poor data coverage. DOesn't matter inside, outside or upside down they unit get only 1 bar of data and cycle between 4G LTE AND 3G, it even show 1x evdo and basically useless.

We're here to do a service checkup nglayton! May I ask have you contacted our customer service dept yet? If not then let's look into this together. May I ask what model hotspot/jetpack do you have? Any liquid/physical damage on the device? Do you have any issues in another area outside of the zip code that you provided? As you share the details then we can investigate.
    Thank you…

  • Poor data coverage in Wadsworth, IL What are Verizon standards, what are Verizon's plans.

Verizon customer since about 1988, ready to blow my top because I am paying for a data plan for years and years and get very spotty coverage at home. I have had big problems since 4gLTE was introduced, been patient for over 2 1/2 years and now just really want to stop hearing the 4G hype, and start actually seeing some bars of signal when I am at home, enough already. I did a speed test today after about 90 minutes of not being able to use LTE or CDMA for data and it's time for some answers. Speed test results:  Download speed:  0.51 Mbps  (yes thats a zero in from of a decimal)  Upload is 0.17 (another 0  leads that number as well).  I ordered a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to arrive in a few days, and by god I just read in these forums that the phone does not pick up signal well. That is all I need. How about getting real about infrastructure in the Gurnee, IL area and north. I live less than 2 miles from Highway 41, why does nothing work here?

I have put phone to safe mode and no difference in signal. I am out of safe mode now and at -110dBm 4g. At least it is connected to LTE. Could customer service please open a ticket to check tower (s)  affecting 1 mile south of Wadsworth,IL and I will check back in a day or two, when I also have the Note 3.  I get so mad going to the Verizon store exactly 7.4 miles away, full signal there, just banging.  Bet there isn't another tower any closer to me than that one the store uses to light up all their stuff. But this has been going on for over 2.5 years, just to re-iterate.

  • Outdoor High-Density/Mixed Environment Cisco AP/Antenna Choices for Data Coverage

We are looking to upgrade our non production use wireless network, which is for providing users typical internet data services. We don't have any wireless engineers on our team, we are primary wired networking guys. We are upgrading our wireless network, because we have a lot more user joining and our AP's in place have too high a client count which has diminsed throughput speeds for our customers. We have two seperate areas that provide this coverage, and both of them are under 1sq mile in size (one is 417,000 sq ft in size/280 estimate users and the other is 590,000 sq ft in size/700-800 users estimate). The environment is rugged (hot/humid/sandy), but flat. The users occupy pods/trailers/tents, so no structure is higher than 15ft.
Within the last year, more users are bringing in smart devices for data services, so our our network is a hybrid network now with a higher-density of users, and 802.11n AP's appear better equipped to handle this kind of load. We currently have a mixture of 1142AP's in side and 1252/1262 AP's outside place in NEMA enclosures, which are tied to two 3560/3750 PoE switches at each location. We don't have enough AP's in place to handle the additional client load to provide suitable data throughput speeds for typical internet data services, and are looking at possibly revamping the whole wireless network with different gear.
We are looking at possibly removing all previous AP's, and putting in place Cisco 1552e AP's (AIR-CAP1552E-A-K9) in both areas, using 3 Cisco dual antennas (AIR-ANT2547V-N) per AP's. We've seen an excel doc floating around on the web to help plan for how many AP's we might need, but the minimum area size for the excel spreasheet calculator is 1sq mile, which is a lot more than what we are looking at for each area. We've attempted to use the WCS in planning mode to map out how many 1552e AP's we need for each area (with our maps we created using Google Maps, and fairly accurate), and reviewed the heat signatures created and it appears the AP count is too high. We got around 20 AP's for one area and 33-35 AP's in the other area, which seems very high. We are looking at mounting the 1552e AP's to poles in each area at a height of around 12-15ft.
We don't know what the client load a 1552e AP can handle, for providing throughput speeds of 1.5Mbps to 5Mbps, to gauge how many AP's we really need, and whether going for using strictly 1552e AP's is the way too go. The 1552e AP's are geared for MESH networks, which is very different from what we have now. Can we set-up the 1552e AP's as stand alones? Do we have to use a different antenna for whatever AP is going to be the RAP? We are looking at using Power Injectors to provide power to the AP's.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

That setup is your best bet. What you have to look at is the number of hops. I would typically don't have more than two hops. That is map to map to rap. Remember that the 5ghz is your backhaul and you are basically daisy chaining your mesh. What you need is to make sure your 5ghz can link IP with a good backhaul speed. The 2.4ghz will of course cover more area so when you place these mesh AP's, make sure your backhaul has coverage to meet your backhaul requirements. Antennas will be the same for a map or rap. You will need a WLC to actually do mesh and it would be better that way. Even though you can get an autonomous version, it would be a dumb ap per say. Stick with mesh and a WLC and you should be fine.

  • GPRS data coverage, switching?

    Hey everyone.
My company currently uses Motorola V551's for communications in the field, mainly because we can use the GPRS systems for data in remote locations. (Teathered to a G4 laptop via Bluetooth). Although the data is slow at times, we can get a simple web page to load. Since we often need data communications for emergency situations and services, it's important that we find out how the GPRS signals and services are working on everyones iPhone.
Does the iPhone automatically switch from 3G to Edge to GPRS on it's own when using it for data? Does it show what type of service its connected to, in a window, like the older mobile phones? In other words, does anyone know for sure it's doing so in remote areas outside the normal data 3G/Edge ranges? I should note that I'm not looking to use the iPhone connection teathered to my laptop... I'm not even sure that works, but more so, receiving the Internet on the iPhone alone.
Any issues when using it for GPRS data?
These are very important questions and I really appreciate the help.
    Thanks kindly:
    Warren
    Message was edited by: Chance

In addition to the first poster, yes the iPHone will automatically switch between Edge and GPRS. While Edge isn't the fastest around, GPRS is slower. You can tell from the front of the phone which service you are on. In Edge, there is a blue square with an E in it, with GPRS it will just be a blue box. To add to what you said about teathering, the iPhone will not support teathering at this time, even with bluetooth.
    Hope this answers your question.

  • Data coverage issues

My wife and I have been experiencing issues with our data connection at home.  We will see our connection cycle from 3G to 4G to 1X without moving.  As it cycles, we will see a delay where we basically have no connection at all, as it tries to switch. This appears to also cause an increased battery drain.  We use a Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.  We are in the 38135 area code.  I do not see these problems outside of our home neighborhood.  We have had this issue both indoors and outdoors.  Any suggestions?

We have seen this issue get progressively worse over the last month.  It
used to be intermittent, and now we see it daily.  It does not seem limited
to a particular app. We have seen it with texting as well, where we
received failed to send messages.  We have not seen any other messages than
    that.

  • Poor data coverage in Bellevue, WA, dowtown area.

I'm getting full/almost full signal outside, but almost to internet. Internet speed is below 5kb/s, very unstable, drops every few minutes.
106-112 streets, around 8th ave, downtown Bellevue
Anybody experiencing same problems? Any way to resolve this with Verizon?

That's a known dead spot. I called in in several times but they told me it's between towers and given that there's quite a lot of buildings and the position of the towers, there's no easy way of resolving it without building additional towers in the area and the added expense to build the towers. I'm at the Transit center (108th and 6th)  and I can barely get internet access and phone service from time to time. It could be that it's over-loaded/over-subscribed. i know I had difficulties yesterday around 106th and 4th which caused my phone to become unregistered and I had to call customer support to have my phone re-associated.

  • No data for a week now, why?

I just came to Verizon a week ago. I got the Droid Razr for my wife and i had to order the Razr Maxx for me. Well i took some time to get my phone but once i did i had it one day and the next we had no data service. Both our phones have no data and sometimes 1x or 3g shows up but will disapper right after. I was told it was a service outage, well thats fine but a week later it is not fine. The thing that really gets me is that four of my co workers have Verizon and they have 3g. One has a Droid Bionac and the others have non smartphones. I get no answer from Verizon, i have called and went through the steps and then they say they will call back in four hours and get an update from me but they don't. I"m just getting very angry and i don't understand why i cant be told whats going on. I would also like to know why it seems the Razr's are the only ones with this problem. I need data for work and if this is what i have to put up with i might have to move on. I really would like to give verizon a chance but this is getting old. Is anyone else having these problems. Oh yeah i live in WV by the way.

    Hello Heifitz
Having to wait a week for data coverage would be very upseting.  Let's get this fixed as soon as possible.
Are you still experiencing the issue? What is your current zip code? Please remove the Sim card and reinsert. Is Wifi turned off?  If not please turn Wifi off and retest. Please power the device on in safe mode and retest. This will rule out any application that could be interfering. Here's how to power on in safe mode:
    Power Off the device
    Power On the device
As soon as DROID Eye screen displays, press and Hold both Volume Up & Volume Down keys (Keep pressed until you reach Idle screen)
Then the main screen will display "Safe Mode"
Please let me know if this helps

  • Why does my Verizon iPhone 4S Data Service Switch from 3G to 2G as soon as I want to use it for "data-intensive" apps such as Netflix?

I have an iPhone 4S that I purchased new from Verizon back in January 2012.  I've started to notice that the 3G data coverage appears and disappears according to whether or not I'm actually using the data.  For instance: When the phone is stationary and not using the data, it indicates that I have 3G data coverage.  When I click on an app like Netflix (without moving the phone from it's stationary position), data coverage either immediately or soon thereafter switches to a 2G data coverage connection (indicated with an "o" for Verizon).  Has anyone else had this same problem?  I can't say that this happens everywhere, but in particular, it happens at my work every single time I would like to be able to watch episodes of tv shows on my lunch break.

Yeah I'll need to call and ask because it's very possible that the tower is "congested" as I work in a large city.  Hardly seems fair that I would get a diminished data speeds due to congestion of a large city that Verizon indicates it has full coverage on all of their "data coverage" maps.  I may have made a different carrier choice had I known that this was going to happen.  I wonder if this happens with their 4G towers as well...

  • Bluetooth stops working when data switches

I've had my GS4 for almost a month now, and I've been having trouble while playing music via Bluetooth on my car stereo. I noticed that as I was driving, my stereo display would stop showing the title of the song, then exactly 2 seconds later the music would stop. When I looked at my phone, it showed that the music was still playing, but no sound was coming from anywhere. If I hit pause and then play again, the music started playing through the car speakers again. This was happening at completely random intervals, sometimes as often as 5 times during a 3-minute song. I started looking on the internet for a reason why this would happen and how to fix it, and I found that some people had problems with their WiFi detecting networks as they drove, and every time a new network was detected, their music would stop. I tried turning my WiFi off, but the music kept stopping. With that knowledge, I determined that the music was stopping whenever the status of my data connection changed. If I moved from a 4G to 3G area, my music stopped. If I went back into a 4G area, my music stopped. If I move to an area where I don't get a data connection, or back into a data coverage area, my music stops. The only way I can find to stop this from happening is to turn off my data completely. Has anybody else had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? Thank you so much for taking the time to read.

        Dear jesiswinning,
Good afternoon. I am sorry to learn of the difficulites you are experiencing with listening to music on your Samsung Galaxy S4 via Bluetooth. It would be my pleasure to address your equipment concerns.
I have verified this is not a known issues with the device. Have you tried removing the battery, then syncing back to your car? If this does not work, try to remove the SIM card from the phone, then re-insert back to your phone. For instructions on how to do this, click http://vz.to/10NQRZJ If you are still experiencing difficulites, please feel free to reach out to us. We will be more than happy to further assist.

  • Lost Mode and Play Sound are "Pending."  However, iCloud indicates that it connected and backed up to iCloud at a date that is 1 week after it went missing.  How is this possible without locking (Lost Mode Pending an internet connection)

    Hi,
My wife lost her iPhone two weeks ago while on vacation in London (cell service inoperative in foreign country).  Using Find My iPhone app on my device, I activated Lost Mode and Play Sound.  However, both are listed as "Pending," since it those actions require the phone to connect to the internet (wifi only due to no cellular data coverage.).
We recently returned home and purchased a new iPhone.
However, when looking to restore the apps/settings from her old phone using a previous iCloud backup, iCloud indicates that the old phone connected to iCloud and backed up the original phone at a date that is 1 week after it went missing.  How is this possible without locking (Lost Mode Pending an internet connection)?
If the phone was activated and connected to the internet via a wifi signal, shouldn't it immedately lock, show up on the map, Play Sound, and send me an email that the phone has been found?
I also read somewhere that if running iOS 7, the iCloud website interface enables you to track previous locations, for instance if the phone moves from wifi hotspot to hotspot.  Is that true?  If so, how do I do that?
Thank you for your time, and have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    - Matt

just giving this a wee bump as time is of the essence here and i need advice/ answers quick!

  • Data Roaming in Japan with the Android Bionic - or not...

I signed up for a global data plan using my Android Bionic. I can receive calls without a problem and I'm able to place calls. However despite my best efforts I am unable to use any data on my phone (every time I try I get the message "No Data Connection" . I have enabled data roaming and checked all of the settings I can find. Anybody care/able to tell me what I'm doing wrong? It's a major inconvenience to not have data access while here. FWIW, I'm in Kobe, which according to the map should have full voice and CDMA data coverage.

    Hey everyone,
So I just called the verizon customer service whom connected me to global data customer service (or whatever the name was...)
Basically most cities in Japan doesn't support CDMA network, which is required for Bionic (and I'm assuming for Nexus as well) for data roaming. Most of Japan's network is using GSM. I believe some Verizon android phones supports GSM, though not sure which ones they are.
I asked her when I signed up for the global service plan, why the customer rep didn't check my phone's incompatibility for Tokyo. She said that the customer service will usually only check at the country level, and not by cities. On their system, Japan is shown as eligible as some cities does support CDMA.
I also asked which cities support CDMA network, and she said Sendai, Yokohayam, Osaka, Toyama. Probably there's few others but that was enough as a list for me.
David, I didn't check if Kobe has CDMA coverage (as you stated), so for your case, I'm not sure if my issue applies.
Btw, I stopped my global data service plan immediately, as there's no use. However the lady that helped me out was very helpful in detail so kudos to her!

  • Problem to use data services on different telco device

    Dear Readers,
I've bought a used BlackBerry Curve 8900 of telco Starhub Limited (Singapore).
I found the trackball faulty & managed to get a replacement set from Starhub as it is
    still under warranty.
The new device carry the following PIN & IMEI.
    PIN : [removed personal information]
    IMEI : [removed personal information]
I brought it back to my own country (Malaysia) & use it with my current Telco, Maxis.
    I'm able to make/receive calls & send/receive sms.
Then I went along to register this device to use my telco (Maxis) BIS service.
I managed to register this device to my telco BIS but however I wasn't able to use
any data services at all ie. emails, browsers, applications & even wifi.
My device only shows upper case GSM network on its screen & no gprs or edge.
Throubleshoot cames & I found there are entries in the device host routing table.
Whenever I try to register the entries this error will appear.
"Registration message queued. It will be sent once data coverage is available"
I called my Telco many times on this problem & hasn't got a clue what is going on
Their BlackBerry technical assitance also spoke the same tone.
For trial & error I went to purchase a Starhub sim & activate this device with Starhub prepaid
BlackBerry service & to my surprised the data services came alive!!
The device is showing upper case GPRS on its screen & I'm able to use all the data services.
Thinking that this device PIN might be hooked to Starhub wireless network I called them up to release it.
I got a big shock when they told me that this device PIN wasn't hooked to their BIS service.
Not giving up I went back & try to register this device with my Telco (Maxis) BIS service again & this error came.
"The information you have provided is not valid for this service provider"
I got so upset & has been losing sleep as both telco are unable to tell me what is the problem.
I'm paying for a unlimited BIS plan with my Telco (Maxis) & unable to use any data services.
Went off to spend my Christmas losing sleep!!!
Can anyone out there tell me what is going on??
I would also be very grateful is someone is knowledgeable enough to guide me how to hook
this device with my Telco (Maxis) BIS & use all the data functions.
Lastly not forgetting I wished all readers a belated Christmas.

    Dear Readers,
I've got my BlackBerry alive & kicking!
For the benificial of all, I will post what I did here.
First of all I called up Starhub to cancel off my prepaid BlackBerry
    service with them.
From the information given by Starhub I figured out that my device
is hooked on Maxis BIS but working on Starhub data network.
I've called up Maxis & ask them to release my PIN then reset my BIS account.
They told me to do a hard reset (battery & sim off) for 10 minutes.
When I turned it on after 10 minutes, to my surprised upper case GPRS appeared.
From my own analysis these few days the only clue I for the cause of this is
probably I register my BIS too early even before the data service is activated.
Other that this I can't think of any possibilty.
Welcome all to share their view here.
