Data deduplicated volumes. What happens if they are moved to another server?
I have come across a potential issue with a server setup.
I have a server with it's OS disk in a Raid1. It's data deduplicated volumes are in a raid 10 via a separate raid controller. What happens if the OS disks fail? can the OS be re-installed without the data being lost on the deduplicated volumes?

Yes, deduplication is completely portable between the systems. See:

volume that is under deduplication control is an atomic unit. You can back up the volume and restore it to another server. You can rip it out of one Windows 2012 server and move it to another. Everything that is required to access your data is located on the
drive. All of the deduplication settings are maintained on the volume and will be picked up by the deduplication filter when the volume is mounted. The only thing that is not retained on the volume are the schedule settings that are part of the task-scheduler
engine. If you move the volume to a server that is not running the Data Deduplication feature, you will only be able to access the files that have not been deduplicated.

We live in a rural area and have a small business. No one has access to my computer except me. My husband doesn't use it -- ever -- so no one else has connected a device unless some mysterious remote visitor obtained access. The pictures are labeled "Resources" and "theme-files". They are not of people but a lot of flat squares of color. They are dated from early 2000's (around 2003) until the present. When I opened iPhoto, the number of pictures I have went from over 7500 to over 10,000 lickety split. I clicked "stop import" but nothing doing -- it said I had to wait until the download was complete. So there they are -- lots and lots of squares of color and shape type imagery. Is there a way to find a "location" on the map of where they came from? Also, I quite recently did a cleaning with MacKeeper and it came up with nothing malicious there.

Mac desktop. 10.6.8. Text edit. Not locked. Read and write, not read only. Documents are locking when they are moved from desktop to another folder or saved directly into that folder on the server. Not happening with anyone else but me and the boss's computer so has to be in the properties for my text edit software. Techies can't figure it out after trying for two weeks. Boss can do a cut and paste and put into a new document, but that's starting to become a problem.

When I try to edit the layout of an data object I'm getting the error: BAM-04003: Data objects cannot be edited while they are in use.
I have the Active Viewer and Studio closed.
How can I do this?

Note: Oracle BAM version: 11.1.1.3Plans are not supported in 11g. Look if there are any alerts are defined on the data object that you are trying to edit.

Help. Mac mail sends myemails prematurely while I'm still composing..sometimes it sends 4-5 email versions in various states of completion. I've got clients asking what happened, because they only get a partial email..its becoming a serious problem. Help!

Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
Network Shared files occasionally say they are locked by another program
Hello,
On a Server 2012 Essentials with Windows 7 clients, files on network shares occasionally report that they are locked by another program.
This usually happens when a user closes a file and tries to open it shortly after. Sometimes, it takes a considerable amount of time before the file lock is released.
Any help would be appreciated.

Why users are not able to see certain printers even though they are in the Airgroup server table
Q: Why users are not able to see only certain printers even though they are in the Airgroup server table ?
A: In certain scenarios we may notice printers come up under the server /cache entries on the controller.
However when an airgroup user does search for printer, they may not see all the printers, certain printers may be not visible .
This is because the service IDs sent by the user in the MDNS query are not broadcast by these printers
In the below capture the Ipad sends query for service id "_universal_sub_ipp_tcplocal" and "_universal_sub_ipps_tcplocal" and hence the controller will
respond with the printers that broadcasts these service ids.

In order to learn other printers we may need to use specific app provided by printer vendor on the client or configure the printers to send these service IDs.The net 451 issues made it not work after a while but it affected the entire RWW site not just remote access:

Careful if you try and uninstall it, you'll need to put back net 4.0 and reconfigure some stuff.

Will applications update correctly if they are moved ?

With all the little applications being downloaded (especially games) will they update correctly if they are moved to their own (MAS) folder ?
Also the file size displayed in the store seems to be compressed and not the actual installed size, is that correct ?My experience with the Mac App Store is that it is a bit more intuitive than some think. I have moved certain apps that to me are utilities to the Apps/Utilities folder. The Mac App Store realizes that they are there and has updated them there. Even if the app did not originally come through the Mac App Store.
For example, I had an older version of Text Wrangler than the version in the MAS. Text Wrangler was in my Apps/Utilities folder. When I "purchased" it from the MAS the MAS downloaded it and installed it in the Apps/Utilities folder in place of the previous version.

Just days ago, I downloaded and created folders for 2 batches of photos I downloaded from my camera to iphotos but now both are missing. They were not deleted and even if they were, were not found in my trashcan. I have looked through every folder and they are not there. Is there a bug that can get into iPhoto to do this? Is there a program Apple offers to retrieve lost photos? Thank you.

How do you know they were not deleted? Is it possible that they were moved to the trash and the trash has been emptied, if not by you, perhaps by someone else?
In the best case, you mean they were not deleted from your camera. If so, it will be simple to merely download again from your camera after you have corrected any problem with your Mac or workflow.
If you have a way to be certain that your two folders were not deleted from your Mac, follow the directions provided by your Mac's Disk Utility to repair your Disk (not Disk Permissions.) On more than one occasion, disk repair has restored the visibility of missing folders I knew I had not deleted. If you have trouble with the process, post back which specific Mac OS version ( > About This Mac) you are using so we can offer specific help.
It is also possible that the missing folders might be saved somewhere you do not expect them to be.
It is also possible that they may merely be invisible and, thus, not showing in your Finder windows even after performing a Disk Repair.
Here are some more ideas you can consider:
Restart Mac and then look where you expect the folders to be. They may be visible there now.
If not, try a Spotlight search for the folder name(s) you used. Spotlight may give you a list of places to look. If you don't remember the folder name(s), try a search for the file type your camera uses for saved images. My cameras save "jpg" files, but yours may save other image file types.
You can also open a finder window and use the window's search oval to search. The method allows you to use the search "+" button to add invisible items via the "File Visibility" choice.

If you are using any version of Mac OS X, I doubt this statement can be true.
If you select your disk volume name (not the Media item) in the sidebar of your Mac's Disk Utility, you will see that the number of Folders and files on your disk is very large. For example,I keep my startup disk small and write most of my files to other disks. Even so, my startup disk contains more than 195,000 folders.
If you mean you used some software to search each folder, please post back the name of the app you are using.

I have not had the problem you describe, nor have I heard of such an iPhoto Bug.
I have used every version of iPhoto I have seen including the current new version: iPhoto '11 version 9.5 (902.7). You can find the version you are using by executing the iPhoto > About iPhoto menu command and post it back here.

I am not aware of any Apple apps that work specifically on photo files. If you know the pathname to the lost files, and if you are comfortable with Unix commands, you might be able to use your Mac's Terminal utility to retrieve at least some of your images. However, it will be MUCH simpler to merely download another copy from your camera.
You can search the Mac App Store for "unerase" to find several apps that can unerase files, including deleted photo files, in certain circumstances even after the trash has been emptied. To determine whether one or more of them may meet your needs, see their product info and reviews for specifics about each one.

My all health data's disappeared, What happens to Health?

SInce updated to iOS 8, I've been tracking my health activities every day,
but in this morning I checked my health activities like I did every day, all of my activities disappeared.
I wasn't sure what happened, so I restarted my iPhone, and they all came back, my health activities, for sure I tried to add my activity, unexpected things happen again, they're gone again.
I'm not sure if this's a bug. but what I'm sure is that in the latest update's notice has shown that it's included Health bug fixed.Nothing. Everything stays put, but you can't play protected content, or transfer it to a device, until you authorize the computer again.
