Data disk questions

I burned several data DVDs to use as "readable by mac backups", as opposed to backup dvds which are only "readable by iTunes".
There are numbers in front of each folder, and songs within the folders have numbers as well.
1. Is there a setting somewhere that would eliminate these numbers? i have looked everywhere and cannot find any settings for that.
The songs play just fine in the finder. If I double click on them, then iTunes plays the song from the stored music in iTunes.
Videos are grayed out in the finder and thus don't play there. If I double click, they are copied to iTunes, and then they play from iTunes. And of course, they now exist with numbers and names, as opposed to just names (in the iTunes music folder)
2. Why are songs just played and TV shows copied again into iTunes?
If the data disk is to act as a backup, then I suppose copying the data into iTunes is a good thing.
3. So if a song gets deleted, would double clicking on the data disk song put it back into the library?
The help for buying CDs and DVDs disks says to use -R or -RW disks.
I thought our drives support both + and - DVDs.
4. Why does help say only - DVDs?
Costco has an offer now to buy 100, get 100 free. So I have to get DVD -R only.

    After installing itunes 10, any dvdr I put in my disk drive is recognized as an audio cd, even though it is a burned data disk with avi's on it?     HI, ascjohn, and welcome to Apple Discussions. Posting here is not a way to get an answer from Apple, as these are user-to-user forums. Apple personnel rarely contribute anything to them, and almost never anything of a technical nature. Apple technical support is provided through other channels.
    If, when you open iPhoto, it loads and loads and loads and never finishes, force-quit it, then hold down the Shift and Option keys while opening iPhoto again. Keep holding them down until you are asked whether you want the database rebuilt, and click Yes. When that process is finished, you should once again be able to quit iPhoto normally and open it normally.
    If the problem you share with Gingerdog is not that one, but the inability to import photos from folders on your hard drive (outside your Pictures folder) or other sources, I'm not sure what to suggest. Please describe the problem in more detail: are the photos in question on your hard drive? Where? are they JPEGs, or some other file format? What version of iPhoto are you using? What troubleshooting steps have you tried? What error messages, if any, do you get, and at what stage of the import process? If no error messages appear, what does happen?

    SAP Data Archiving
    1.0 Introduction to Enterprise Data Archiving
    Currently, a large number of enterprises use SAP R/3 as a platform for integration of business processes. The continuous usage of SAP results in huge amounts of enterprise data, which is stored in SAP R/3. With passage of time, the new and updated data is entered into the system while the old data still resides in the SAP enterprise system.
    Since some of the old data is critical, it cannot be deleted. The difficulty is keeping the data you want, and deleting the data you do not want. Hence, a SAP database keeps on expanding rapidly and enterprise systems, which have limited data retention abilities for a few years, suffer from problems such as data overflow, longer transaction processing times, and performance degradation.
    The solution of this problem has led to the concept of Data Archiving in SAP. Data Archiving removes out-of-date data from the SAP database that the R/3 system does not need online, but can be retrieved on a later date, if required. This data is known as archived data and is stored at an offline location. Data Archiving not only consistently removes data from the database but also ensures data availability for future business requirements.
    One rule of thumb is that in a typical SAP enterprise system, the ratio of data required to be online and instantly accessible to old data, which could be archived, and stored offline is 1:6. For example, if an enterprise has 2100 GB of SAP database, the online data, which is frequently used by SAP users will be 300 MB and the rest (1800 MB) will be scarcely used and hence can be archived.
    1.1 Data Archiving u2013 Features
    It provides a protection layer to the SAP database and resolves underperformance problems caused by huge volumes of data. It is important that SAP users should keep only minimal data to efficiently work with database and servers. Data archiving ensures that the SAP database contains only relevant and up-to-date data that meet your requirements.
    Data archiving uses hardware components such as hard disks and memory. For efficient data archiving, minimum number of disks and disk space should be used.
    It also reduces the system maintenance costs associated with the SAP database. In the SAP database there are various procedures such as, data backup, data recovery, and data upgrade.
    SAP data archiving complies with statutory data retention rules that are common and well-proven techniques.
    SAP data archiving can be implemented in two ways. In the next section both options will be discussed in detail.

  • Transfer music from PC to Mac using data disks or external drive?

    I have my iPhone synced with my office computer (a PC running XP Pro) and originally had my iPad synced with the same PC computer.
    But now I synced my iPad with my Macbook pro at home.
    Is there anyway to transfer the music and playlists via data disks (or external drive) from the office PC to the home Macbook?
    If so, can you please tell me very slowly how to do that. What do I need to transfer and what is the file called, etc... I'm not very familiar with PCs (I'm more of a Mac person).

    Open iTunes and go to Store>Authorise Computer or play a purchased song in iTunes. If the computer has not yet been authorised, iTunes asks you to enter the Apple ID and password you used to purchase the song:

    Temporary Disk The temporary storage drive, labeled as the D: drive is not persisted and is not saved in the Windows Azure Blob storage. It is used primarily for the page file and its performance is not guaranteed to be predictable. Management tasks such

  • Short cut for copying a cd or dvd data disk?

    Is there a keyboard shortcut for copying a data disk, CD or DVD?
    I know I can create a folder, then copy all the data off a CD or DVD into
    that folder and effectively get the same thing, but I was wondering if
    there was a one keyboard keyboard shortcut.
    When you do right click and copy of a data disk, what you get is just
    an alias to the disk, not a copy.

    Mount the CD/DVD/disk Image, OPTION-click on the disk icon at the top of the window that opens, and drag to the Desktop or another Finder window. That should create a folder containing everything whatever you mounted.

    I have created a data disk with my superdrive. I would now like to add another file to the disk but all directions I find only apply to a "blank"disk. Thanks for any help you can give me.

    just make a new one. you cant add to a group. It's really sending the texts out as separate messages. the only thing they have in common is the actual message that is being sent out

    I periodically burn data DVDs of new additions to my iTunes library as a backup. I make a playlist of the music, then sort by album and burn as data disks.
    Previously, the DVD was arranged like this:
    01 First Album Name
    ..01 First Song Name
    ..02 Second Song Name etc
    02 Second Album Name
    ..01 First Song Name
    ..02 Second Song Name etc
    50 Fiftieth Album Name
    ..01 First Song Name
    ..02 Second Song Name etc
    Today I upgraded to iTunes 7.5 (from 7.4.2) and burn a disk and get:
    01 First Song Name (part of First Album)
    02 Second Song Name (part of First Album)
    03 First Song Name (part of Second Album)
    04 Second Song Name (part of Second Album)
    304 First Song Name (part of Fiftieth Album)
    305 Second Song Name (part of Fiftieth Album)
    Just a big list of files with no folder organization or album names. This makes a mess of the text files I keep for reference and the disks themselves IMO.

    Ooh! This is an even crazier bug than I initially thought.
    I tried putting in the pattern manually like so:
                <xs:pattern value="(0|1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8|9|10|11|12)"/>
    What I discovered is that it's not the transition from single digits to double digits that's confusing DW, it's the fact that when it evaluates 11, it has already evaluated 1. For example, if I change this to:
                <xs:pattern value="(0|10|11|12)"/>
    Then all my 10s, 11s, and 12s pass through just fine.
    However, if I tweak that to:
                <xs:pattern value="(0|1|10|11|12)"/>
    Now, my 10s and 11s and 12s trigger errors.
    For some reason, having the 0 in there does not trigger an error on the 10s in that first example.
    Bizarre, eh?

  • Difference between $29 upgrade disk and the $9.95 Up to Date Disk

    Could someone tell me if there is a difference between the two? I qualified for both as I just purchased a new MacBook Pro 2 weeks ago and I have a MacBook purchased last year as well. Justwondering if there is any difference.

    The up to date disk is only licensed for that qualifying computer. The $29 disc is licensed for 1 Leopard computer. If you only have 2 computers that are Snow Leopard compatible, I would get one of each. If you have more than 2, get the Family Pack. If you have any Tiger computers, get the Tiger Family Pack (whose SL disc will also install on Leopard).

  • Automatic copy music files in music folder to the data disk storage

    I got the shuffle as a Christmas present last year. It was working fine until today. Once I plugged to shuffle onto my laptop, it automatically copy all the music files in my music folder (my hardisk) to my shuffle. It copies them to my data disk storage, as if I want to back up them or transfer them to another computer. I don't know where to change the setting, as it used to work fine and I didn't change anything since then.
    Anyone has any idea how to fix this? Basically now I can't use my shuffle as the memory stick.

    Yes it is possible, and in fact quite easy.
    Insert the flash drive in your computer and open it so it looks like a window.  Over in iTunes, highlight the tracks you want (or CTRL+A to get a whole playlist) and drag to the open flash drive window.
    If you normally run iTunes in full-scree mode, make it smaller so that you can do the drag.

  • Cannot burn songs to a "data disk" on new iMac

    I have some demo songs that I can burn as Audio CDs, but sans a CD title and track titles that I need for easy sharing.   However, when I attempt to burn the same playlist as a CD data disk in iTunes using Mountain Lion on my New iMac I cannot initiate a burn after clicking burn and inserting a blank CD. 
    It spins waiting for me to "Please insert a blank CD" .  Both times I used identical blank ativa brand CD-Rs rated 52x 700MB 80 min.  However the same blank ativa disks can be burnt as "data disks" on my older core 2 duo iMac running Snow Leopard.  What gives?
    The same new iMac has song and CD titles missing using Toast Titanium 8.

  • Problems attaching a new data disk on a Suse Virtual Machine

    Hi!
    I loose a Suse 11 Virtual Machine after attacing a 2nd data disk. When I reboot it, the machine freezes and give no response.
    I've downloaded the OS disk and created a new VM on my PC's Hyper-V. The VM does nothing, after Lilo the screen turns black and nothing hapens.
    I've created a new VM and when have attached the 2dn data disk the problem occurs again.
    Please, how can I get some support about this bug? I need a Suse VM, may I wait a correction or try another cloud service?

    I use to host my VMs in US East. The used images was 'SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3'. I always use the last version and Standard type. The first VM was configured about november'2014, and the second I used the 2015/01/27 release.
    I've attached 2 empty disks in both situations, always with RW cache:
    In the first VM:
     - 1st disk with 1023GB
     - 2nd disk with ~50GB
    In the second VM:
     - 1st disk with 1023GB
     - 2nd disk with 1023GB
    I've configured the first disk and worked in the VM. With them online I've attached the second disk and rebooted after configure fstab (pointing to /dev/disk/by-id/nnnnnnnnn). After this reboot the machine freezes.

    I just got a call today that I reached my 300GB limit for the month.  I called and got a pretty rude response from the security and data usage department.  The guy told me in so many words that if I do not like or agree with the policy that I should feel free to find another service provider.!!! I tried to explain that we watch Netflix and XFinity on-demand alot and I was told that that can not be anywhere close to the data usage. I checked my router and watching a "super HD, dolby 5.1" TV show on Netflix will average about 5-6 GB per hour (1.6MB/s) ... sp this means that I can only watch no more than 1-2 Super HD TV shows a day via Netflix before I run out of my data usage.    This seems a bit redicilous doesn't it? Maybe the TV ads about the higher speed than the competition should be accompanied with "as long as you don't use it too often"   Not a good experience ... 

  • Data disk doesn't play all songs

    When I burn a data disk, my JVC auto stereo does not recognize all the songs.  For example, say I burn a data disk with 80 songs.
    Sometimes the JVC will recognize the entire 80, but other times it's 16, 44, 51, or any number of the 80.  Different playlist, different number. This is consistent...if it recognizes 18 songs on the first play, it stays at 18...that part isn't random.  What's random is the # of songs recognized.  I've tried different brands of CDs, and the JVC will recognize the same number of a particular playlist, regardless of brand.  All songs on these CDs play fine on my buddy's car player.
    I'm guessing this is more of a JVC issue than iTunes, but they won't answer my email queries.  Just curious if anyone else
    has encountered this.

    Carl,
    Given the consistency, the problem is most likely in the audio format of the songs.  When iTunes burns a data disk, each song is burned in the same format that it is in your library.
    If you have all MP3s, there should not be a problem.  However, if you have any oddball formats mixed in, your JVC may not be recognizing them.
