Data DVD burn cancels

I have tried repeatedly to burn a back-up data DVD of a playlist. The burn cancels in the first song. I have culled through the playlist and removed anything purchased online or shifted over from another desktop on the same computer. None of the songs are from the iTunes store; all have been uploaded from CDs and are listed as MPEG audio files. I am not concerned about preserving playlists, etc. just want to back up the songs. The ultimate goal is to transfer the library to a new Mac (don't have it yet).
My knowledge is basic, so please use simplistic language in any responses!
Thank you.

Can you burn from the Finder?

  • ITunes 7.3 failed back up data DVD burn had error code 261(0x00000105).

Just bought a bunch of new songs and went to back them up in iTunes 7.3 and I keep getting error code 261(0x00000105).
Any ideas? Did not have this problem in prior versions. Brner works fine with other programs.
    Thanks!

Keep getting the same error as well. Run cd/dvd diagnostics and it should tell you... "The last failed data CD or DVD burn had error code 261(0x00000105)".

  • Multisession data DVD burned on windows don't show the folders on Mac.

    Hi,
I think that is a well discussed thread but I weren't able to find anything at this concern on google and this forum.
I've burned a multisession data DVD on Nero (windows XP). That DVD already have files burned and is multisession. After burn it, the folder that I'd copied on PC don't show up on Mac. Is there a way to burn that files on windows that can be recognised on a Mac? Is this a question of burn format? The parameters of copy on Nero was keep as default.
    Thanks in advance.

It seems like Mac OS X doesn't support multisession-burnt DVDs, no matter how you put them together. In the best case, you'll only be able to see the first session. Finalizing DVDs has no impact on Mac OS X ability to read them completely.
I learnt it the hard way when switching from Ubuntu to Mac OS X, while on the first, Nero-burnt DVDs would read flawlessly, finalized or not. I ended up being forced to burn back around 120 DVDs in one session in Nero.
So far, Apple doesn't seem to have any plan in supporting multisession DVD burning and reading in OS X. As they have a tendancy to ditch obsolete technology sooner than others, I wouldn't hold my breath on it. On a personal level, this lack of support has made my hard drive space needs skyrocket, as I'm no longer able to incrementally burn DVDs, as I always did in Windows and Ubuntu.
    Hope that helps.

  • Endlessly "Preparing Data" DVD Burn

Okay, I've got a brand new Mac Pro. I know the DVD burner works, because I've used it to make several DVDs already (including backing up my old Windows iTunes library, and creating a disk for the drivers to use in BootCamp), however it is now giving me trouble.
I've created a Burn Folder in Finder with a collection of files and folders taken from an image I made of my old Windows HD, with the intention of loading these key items in my new Windows install on this machine. The items will total at 1.83 GB on disk once they're successfully copied, and I'm using 4.7 GB blank DVDs, so there should be no trouble fitting it.
Except it never gets there. I click the "Burn" button, insert a blank disk, and a dialog pops up saying "Burning Disc: Windows Files" with a progress indicator that looks like a blue candy cane twirling endlessly, and below it says "State: Preparing data" and "Percent complete:" without anything following it. It never moves beyond this stage. After about half an hour of this last night, I left it there to go to bed, and it was at the exact same place this morning. I have since tried using a different disk, rebooting, lowering the burning speed, all to no avail.
I know these aren't the highest quality DVDs in the world (they're BJs brand), but they have worked fine with the other things I burned a couple weeks ago, mentioned above. It seems to me this has to be a software/firmware issue of some sort. I've seen threads of others with similar but not identical problems, and none of them seem to have found a resolution, but maybe someone has some ideas?

I have a MBP and run into the same issue. I've
lowewered the burn speed to 2x and it seems to work
    fine.
I've been having this problem too, but lowering the burn speed didn't seem to work for me. However, I had been option-dragging the files to the burn disk, doing a regular drag and allowing it to create an alias seems to have solved the problem in my case.

  • Error while verifing a data DVD burn

Hi - I'm trying to put a lot of .wmv files onto DVD+R discs in order to remove them from my hard drive, which is becoming full. Problem is that after the burn is complete, the process fails about 1/2 way through and I get the following message:
"An error occurred while verifying the disc. This disc may not work"
Then it ejects. The disc does not show up in the finder when I re-insert it.
Please help!! I've wasted several DVD's on this. I have also run iDefrag and that has not helped. Thanks.

What brand of discs are you using, and at what burn speed? Also, which drive is in your computer?

  • DVD burn error message

I get this error message when I try to burn a data DVD: "Burning the disk failed because communication to the disk drive failed. (error code 0 x 80020022)
I am attempting to use the original drive system (Pioneer DVD-RW DVR 104) and it plays CD's and DVD's without a problem. Thoughts? Jim

just had this problem with a 17" MacPro purchased in Jan 09. Toast Titanium 9 had no problems burning the CD. tried it again in Finder but backed the burn speed down from 24x to 8x - no problem.
I can only assume it is cheap media causing the problem - we have no problems with Maxell CDs at full burn speed (24x). The CDs causing the problems are Verbatims (rated at 1-52x) that have printable surfaces.
    hope this helps

  • PC won't read data DVD

A data DVD burned on MAC won't load in PC.

By default, when burning DVD's from the Finder they should also be readable on a PC. Is this just unreadable on 1 PC? or all PCs?
Also I have seen Maxell DVD's that do not burn on Lacie external burners. Do you have another brand of DVD? I use Verbatim. Also are you using DVD+R or DVD-R? I have seen DVD-R discs not work on certain PCs with DVD drives.

  • Error when trying to burn a Data DVD

Whenever I try to burn a Data DVD I get the same error - "The items in this playlist will not fit on one data disc." The playlist in question is 2.88gb, well under the 4.3gb limit. Is this a known issue? I remember an older version of iTunes would do something similar to this, but I thought that was corrected.
iTunes 7.7.1, MacBook 1.83ghz Core Duo, 2gb RAM, MacOS X 10.5.4 (fresh install, not one week old) and an LG DVD-RW GH22LP20 burner, which is BRAND new, just got it an hour ago to replace a failing Pioneer unit which would no longer burn DVDs.
Also, how do I get iTunes to stop asking me if I'm sure I want to burn a Data DVD? Of course I'm sure! That's why I'm doing it!

I don't know why you are getting that error, but one work around might be to put the blank in, let it mount on your desktop, then simply do a Select All on the playlist and drag and drop them to the DVD icon on the desktop. After the Mac finished make a cache file of everything, when you drag the DVD towards the trash it should turn into a BURN icon.

  • Since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) - i can not burn Data-DVDs anymore...

    System: iMac G4, 1GHz, 1GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.5, 4x SuperDrive (SONY DVD RW DW-U10A)
    Dear Apple Support,
since Mac OS X 10.4.4 (same with 10.4.5) i can not burn a Data DVD-RW anymore. It is so annoying. I want to burn my backup on a DVD-RW with the Burn Folders in Mac OS X. it is not possible.
The Finder burn dialog hangs at the "ending burning process". It is so annoying.
It's not possible to erase this "half burned" DVD-RW too! So I have here a lot of destroyed DVD-RWs around me...
The burning of DVD-RWs is a problem since 10.4.0 here on my machine. With 10.4.3 it was half o.k. ... But since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) nothing works anymore.
Your product "Mac OS X Tiger" is nearly one year in the market. And burning a Data-DVD is not a exotical thing. It is a essential feature of a Operating System today. So what are you doing in your Test-Labs?
I am sitting here since 1 year with an Operating System from Apple an it doesn't works in the essential features.
Whats about your slogan "It just works"?
What happens with the quality of Apple?
Under 10.3.9 Panther i can burn everything. It absolutly no problem there.
So i don't understand what are you doing with Tiger?
    It's so annoying!
    Regards

  • Data DVD wont burn - error message

    Dear Macsters,
Everytime I try to burn a data dvd, i immediately get this message:
    BURN
sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error code 0x8002006D).
It only does this when i set the burn at 1x. At 2x it burns.
    I have osx 10.4.8, early g4 17" laptop, superdrive (dvd-r only).
Is this a burner problem or a software problem??
    Daniel

Manually setting the burn speed on some applications can be problematic.
If it burns at 2X then my guess is thats what you need to do. Burn at 2X.

    Cheers Don
Oh one other thing, older burners are very picky about media.
I suggest you use the very best media, rather than bargin basement cheap media.

  • Burning TS folder as Data DVD vs. Video DV. Is there a difference?

Is there a difference between burning a Video_TS folder as a Data-DVD vs. a Video-DVD in a program like Toast?
I'm experiencing a wierd problem with a client where my discs only play on computers and not on DVD-players and I wonder if I may have burned the folder as a DATA DVD instead of a Video DVD and that is the problem...
Does this make sense or am I a complete loon?
    Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the link and quick response. I did use Toast
When I was working on this proj a few monthes ago, I remembering giving them a "Master" disc with the TS folder in it. I'm currently wondering if perhaps I burned it as a DATA disc because (according to my thinking, let me know if its incorrect) that a TS folder burned as DATA would be of higher quality than a TS folder burned as Video, should they ever need to have it replicated.
Come to find out they had the disc duplicated in-house. And those discs (including my Master) will only play on computers not DVD players... which seems to be consistent with a DATA disc. They inspected the disc and the folders/files look to all be in place so its kind of a mystery. Again, this seems to be what would happen if I burned a DATA instead of VIDEO: all the files would looks to be in place.
    Thoughts?

  • Is it possible to burn a data DVD without numbered folders?

In iTunes I have a playlist sorted on Album by Artist with the intent of getting folders for each Artist, inside of which would I expect to have Albums when I get this to DVD-R, which our Acura MDX can read & play and display ID3 tags.
Problem is every folder on the burned media is preceeded by a number. I want the DVD-R to NOT have this since I can use the hands free selection knob which 'speaks' the folder names, but with numbers it's anoying since every album reads out "001 U2, 002 Kings of Leon...etc, etc"
I have a hunch that this only works for MP3 CD media, not DVD, as when I select MP3 CD iTunes seems to want me to create a data DVD.
    Help! TXS!

I am not sure I understand your question... Premiere Elements is a video editing program, with disc output being a MOVIE DVD or BluRay
I think you need to use a different product to write computer files to a DATA disc
For Windows, use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
(send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)
Read http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1322583 for notes on installing Imgburn WITHOUT any toolbar add-ons

  • Choppy playback after burning data dvd in toast

Hi Ive just finished burning a copy of various short clips which I exported as a quicktime files from FCP onto my desktop then saved them as quicktime mov. through QT player which was successful enough.I then burned a copy of this QT movie in toast as a data dvd compatible for Mac & PC viewing. When I played the dvd in QT 7.4.5 the playback was choppy but the sound was fine. I then played the same disc on my G5 desktop running panther and QT 7.4.1 and it was absolutely fine.Is this process rather a roundabout way of doing things ? and what could be causing this choppy playback on my laptop?

Data DVD's and regular movie DVD are not read in the same way. A regular movie that is being read by your DVD player app is being stream too...and the player is set up to read from a DVD that way.
On the other hand a data DVD the data is just setting there...The DVD player can't send the video to Quicktime fast enough to play smoothly. That's why you need to copy the data DVD to the hard drive.
It would be if you had a 1gig image on a DVD and tried to edit it with Photoshop from the DVD. Photoshop would constantly bog down trying to read from the DVD while editing the image. Same if you had video files on a DVD tried and to it them from a editing app. The editing app not getting the data fast enough making editing very slow. Sometimes the program that's trying to read the from the DVD will freeze or crash. Best to copy the data from the DVD to the hard drive.
