Data DVDs are out since 10.4.4

I can neither burn nor read Data DVDs since around the 10.4.4 update. I can still play video DVDs with DVD Player.
Mine is a Sony DW-U10A.

The question has been archived, so it will never be answered. To get it off my unanswered list, therefore, I have to pretend it has been answered.

Files copied from UDF data dvd are Read-only

I have a bunch on data DVDs burnt on a pc using Roxio Easy Media Creator 7. These disks are UDF format and can be read perfectly on pc or mac. The problem is : if I copy a file to my desktop, it becomes owned by me but r-xr-xr-x. It's not a problem for me personally but other users I support have a hard time figuring what's wrong when they can't rename the file they just copied.
Is it normal behavior or am I the only one with this problem ? I was supprised not to find anything in apple forum about this.
The work around is to change permissions to read-write in the getinfo window + apply to included elements + password or use chmod but it's not how I'd expect it to work. And I don't know how to modify the default permissions given to files from an UDF dvd. Copies of files from iso9660 disks are read-write.

I don't believe this is a problem of leopard in general. i can not reproduce this behavior with any of my afp shares. no matter how i connect (as an owner or as a guest) after I copy something to the desktop it gets standard 644 (not 600) permissions.

Burned playlist to data DVD; song out of order

Why would "Burn Playlist to Disk' change the order of the songs in a playlist? Mine came our sorted by album name...not in the order I created in the playlist.
Have I got some setting wrong?

by album. I've tried all the variations of "album" too, by clicking on it a few times.
But I just discovered that if I don't have the track number listed in the Info section, that it gets out of order. I've manually changed a few and it has worked. Just wish I got it before it went into the system.

When I try to burn a music CD, it insists I am burning a data DVD

When I select a playlist and tell it to burn the playlist the disc as an Audio CD, I get the following message:
"You have inserted a blank DVD but originally selected a CD format. Are you sure you wish to create a data DVD instead?"
Since I asked it to create an audio CD and NOT a data DVD, I have no idea what to do. I simply want to play these files from the CD player.
Any ideas? Is it possible the format of the files (MP3) is to blame?
Note I have never figured out how to create a CD that will play in my normal, several-generations-old CD player.

The message is crystal clear.
YOU CANNOT (not no way, not no how) create a MUSIC CD with a DVD. It's a completely DIFFERENT disc format.
If you want to burn a Music CD, you MUST USE a blank CD to do it.

Ejects video DVDs but reads data DVDs and CDs

Hi all, I have a 2010 Mac mini which is still on snow leopard.
As soon as I put any DVD video in the drive spins up, makes a bit of noise, then tries again and finally just spits the thing out.
All CDs and data DVDs work first time everytime. I've read a number of other questions to try repairing drive permissions and reset PRAM which I have tried but no joy. The indication I seem to be getting is that if these things don't help it's a hardware issue but I thought that would be odd since data DVDs work.

It's possible it doesn't like DUAL LAYER DVDs. Pressed, commercial DVDs are all dual layer, and yet your data DVDs are probably single layer. Maybe it's that?
(I believe there were some early Superdrives that weren't dual-layer-DVD-capable, but don't quote me on that. Maybe your Superdrive is just on the way out, with a weak laser!!)

Since updating to iOS 6 on my ipad i am unable to connect to the internet, itunes or the app store. I have tried many suggestions about changing the dat, logging in/out of itunes etc but nothing has worked! Please help :)

Since updating my ipad to iOS 6 a few days ago i can't seem to get onto the internet, the app store or itunes, nor can i update to iOS7!! I sent an email to apple support and they said we don't handle these issues and redirected me back to the help forums which i have already seen and tried everything other people have suggested and nothing has worked (changing date, signing in/out of itunes etc). When i go to app store the screen is blank, in itunes it just keeps saying loading but never gets anywhere and same with the internet! When i go to settings to update to iOS 7.0.4 it says software update unavailable, try again later. Not sure what to do now. Nothing works, can't use my apps, facebook, music etc. Will contact apple again and try get some answers. But thanks for any info

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. since Mac OS X 10.4.4 (same with 10.4.5) i can not burn a Data DVD-RW anymore. It is so annoying. I want to burn my backup on a DVD-RW with the Burn Folders in Mac OS X. it is not possible.
The Finder burn dialog hangs at the "ending burning process". It is so annoying.
It's not possible to erase this "half burned" DVD-RW too! So I have here a lot of destroyed DVD-RWs around me...
The burning of DVD-RWs is a problem since 10.4.0 here on my machine. With 10.4.3 it was half o.k. ... But since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) nothing works anymore.
Your product "Mac OS X Tiger" is nearly one year in the market. And burning a Data-DVD is not a exotical thing. It is a essential feature of a Operating System today. So what are you doing in your Test-Labs?
I am sitting here since 1 year with an Operating System from Apple an it doesn't works in the essential features.

Under 10.3.9 Panther i can burn everything. It absolutly no problem there.

Did you try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Appel logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting.
If this does not work, did you try to switch off Cellular Data, restart the phone and switch it back on again?

After syncing Pc-Ipad my Photo's are out of order. In the folders they don't follow the Date-order. I use Itunes 10.6.1.7 and Ipad 5.1. The Problem is the same with XP and Windows 7.

I have reset the IPad2. I cleaned the Photo-cache and removed Itunes and Installed again. I tried it with Windows 7 (64) and XP, makes no difference. I tried it with one Album, Photo's also out of order. It doesn't seem to happen with my Ipad1 older software version. I there a bug in the newest software? Thanks for Help!

How do I disable the "some plugins are out of date" message

I am running firefox 3.6.3 on a powerpc mac laptop. There are no more upgrades to either firefox or any of the plugins it is using. It's a powerpc and the current updates of the plugins all require an intel based mac. I constantly get the message "some plugins used by this page are out of date" message above the screen, or Firefox disables plugins because it says they are a security risk. I don't care. This is an old computer that would work fine if Firefox would just stop trying to upgrade either itself or its plugins, or try to warn me about something that can't be upgraded and that I don't care about. MAC rule number one: The user is in charge. How do I fix this annoying and PC like feature?
In the future if Firefox is going to continue to have this "feature" it should keep track of what kind of computer it is running on and what what updates can and can not run on the computer it is running on, or give the user the option of turning off not only the messages but the whole plugin update function.

The date information is taken from the camera which writes it to the file. This needs to be set to the correct date and time in the camera itself.
The order the images are shown in the Library mode is set by clicking on the sort button in the tool bar, which if not showing can be activated from view, tool bar. There are different sort orders that can be applied including sorting by file name. You can also sort by dragging the images to the order you wish them to appear in by selecting user order.
