Data Federator XI 3.0 SP2 and Virtualization

Does anyone know if the Data Federator is supported in virtual environments such as VmWare 3.x or 4.x?
Thanks is advance.
Regards,
Enrico

Hi Enrico,
DF can be installed in VM ware . we have used it in VM5 and VM6.
If VM is of Windows 2000sp4,2003 R2 then it should work for DF .
Hope this helps

    Hi everybody,
I take a look on the SAP Service Market Place and i can´t find the FP 8 to the Data Federator XI 3.0 SP 2. Anybody knows where i can find it and/or Download it?
And another question, i need to install it in sequence? You know... first the FP 1 and then FP 2 ...  I don´t think so, but i must to tell.
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi,
this forum is for the SAP Integration Kit. I would suggest you post your questions into the forum for Data Federator.

  • Data Federator Connection to R3 - java.lang.NullPointerException

    Hi.
We are trying to add a SAP R3 DataSource in Data Federator XI 3.0 SP2.
Test Connection gives us the following message: "The connection was established but there is no table for the given connection parameters", what it seems to be ok according to the SAP doc.
However, when we try to get a list of the Functions or Infosets in the SAP system, an error comes because of a "java.lang.NullPointerException". Checking the application log we get the following:

Hello, we have the similar problem: while connecting from Data Federator to SAP ERP we get the following error - "Wrapper /ZTEST/sources/ZTEST reported an exception which is not a WrapperException: java.lang.NullPointerException: null"
It's necessary to install "SAP BusinessObjects Data Federator Infoset, SAP Query and ABAP Functions Connector Prototype"

    Are there any ideas? Thanks

  • Data Federator - Read timed out

    Hi,
I'm using Data Federator XI 3.0 SP2. I have a datasource connecting to a web service. The web service may return take a long time to do heavy processing, etc., before returning any data. If I call the web service via Data Federator, I will get the following error
Exception was thrown while executing a query on Data Federator Query Server.
An exception occurred when querying Data Federator Query Server.
        [Data Federator Driver][Server]
[Wrapper /TEST/sysadmin/sources/draft/ReturnInputAsOutput]HTTP input/output exception: Read timed out

[Wrapper /TEST/sysadmin/sources/draft/ReturnInputAsOutput]HTTP input/output exception: Read timed out
HTTP input/output exception: Read timed out
I'm guessing that the Data Federator query timed out because the web service takes a long time to response, is it not? If this is the case, how do I increase timeout value? If this is not the case, then what does the error mean and how do I resolve it?
    Thanks.

    Hi Dayanand,
For testing purpose, I created a small simple web service with only one operation that sleep for more than two minutes before returning a string. I called this web service operation from Data Federator. After waiting for a while, I got the "Read timed out" error

  • Data Federator Universe Date Functions

    Hi,
I created a Data Federator Universe from target tables (Source Tables from: Sql Server 2005 and Oracle 10g). Now, I want to create a object in the universe: "Days between 2 dates"(coming from 2 different target tables). I don't see any other date functions other than CURDATE(). How to create my object?
Alternatively, Can I create a caliculated column in the existing target table? For Example, I want to create a new column "Days between 2 Dates" from 2 different tables by using a formula in Default mapping of the target table.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Peter

    Hi Amit,
    Thanks for your reply.
Ok. So, Universe on top of Data Federator has limited functionality.
And, other option you mentioned is on report level. I am creating an adhoc universe and I have few objects which will calculate days between 2 dates coming from 2 different tables.
But, how can I achieve this on Data Federator level. I have no function there to find Days Between 2 dates. I see lot of time and date functions but not the one I required. Also, I added a column in the target table and tried to apply the formula there in the default mapping area. But, I see only the selected target table. I need another date column from another table, which is not displayed in the default mapping area.
    How can I achieve this?

  • Data Federator XI 3.1 - best practices

We are planning of rolling out a data federator setup in our company and I'm looking for some best practices.
The major question I have is, do we install the data federator server components on a dedicated server or can/should we install the components on one of the machines of our BOE r3 cluster (4 nodes -> 2 mgmt and 2 processing)
Is there any document that contains a summary of the best practices for setting up a data federator environment.
    Kind regards
    Guy

    Hello,
the advice is to have a specific machine for the DF server.
DF can become memory and CPU intensive for large queries so a dedicated machine allows to improve DF performances and avoid negative impacts on other services (e.g.BOE).
A lot of calculation and temporary storage is done in memory so the advice is to add as much RAM as needed for large queries. If the RAM is not large enough you will have disk swap and hence you'll notice a lower performance.
    Hope that it helps

  • Data federator Universe refresh issue

    Hi all,
we are facing the issue refreshing the Universe which is based on Data Federator.
whenver the changes are done in BW Cube i.e adding the dimension or the keyfigure. the dimensionobject  is not appearing in the Universe.even we delete the dimension or a key figure from BW and then refresh the dependent tables in DF . Deploy again the project,it is updating the catalog but when we refresh the Universe it is not refreshing properly
SO data federator and BW are in Sync but when we refresh the Universe it is not in sync
we are using BO XI SP3  and BW 7.01 SP7
I would really appreciate your valuable inputs regarding this issue

  • Data Federator Destination

Hi... we just started using Data Federator in our project.
I know that using ew could combine Data from multiple Source systems (such as SAP BI, SAP R/3, Oracle, Flat Files a.s.o) and create a semantic layer (Structure).
Could anyone tell us if the destination from Data Federator be >> a) BO- Universe and
    b) SAP BI
    - Anil

    Hi,
Data federator creates the virtual table for the result set, you can create a BO Universe by providing the JDBC connections details of the DF project but i am not sure about SAP BI.

  • Data Federator authentication modes

In Data Federator (3.0 SP1 or previous), Is there any authentication mode similar to AD/LDAP in BOE?
What are the options available for dynamic logon, while connecting to a database via JDBC in the DF Data source definition screen?
    Thanks
    Tiji

    Hi Tiji,
Connecting to Data Federator using BOE applications
In Data Federator XI 3.0 SP1 and previous versions the only way to connect to Data Federator is to provide a user name and password. Data Federator manages its own repository of users.
Using Universe Designer, you can create a Data Federator connection with two authentication modes:
    - Configured Identity: the same user name and password is used for all consumers of the connection
    - Database Mapping: the DBUser and DBPassword associated to the BOE user are used to connect to Data Federator.
There is no support for single sign on.
Creating a datasource using Data Federator Designer*
When you register a new datasource using Data Federator Designer you have three authentication modes supported:
    - Configured Identity: the same user name and password is used to connect to the database (for all DF users).
    - Principal Mapping: a mapping can be defined between a DF user and data source credentials. This is done through creating and managing "login domains".
    - Caller Impersonation: the DF user and DF password is used to connect to the data source.
The Principal Mapping mode is pretty similar to the feature in BOE called Database Mapping except that you are not restricted to a single DBUser/DFPassword pair whatever data source you want to access. This is more flexible. Note that there is no UI in Administrator to manage login domains. You have to run built in stored procedures in the query tool.

  • Data Federator - Hierarchies and Text Descriptions

    Hi,
I am trying to create WEBI reports on the top of SAP BW. The universe is connecting to SAP BW via Data Federator. I am facing issues with the hierarchy creation. The hierarchies created in the InfoProvider (Multicube - from CRM data source) are not available in the Universe.  I can't create the hierarchies in the universe as all the levels of the hierarchy are not available in the multicube. I need to get the hierarchy data from the CRM data source directly. But the valid sources for DF with respect to SAP BW are just cubes. Kindly let me know if there are any workarounds. Please let me know if more details are needed.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

    Hi
Officially SAP BW hierarchies are not suppoerted for the Data Federator  (http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BOBJ/LeveragingDataFederatorinSAP+integrations). What you can do is to use also the SAP R/3 connector (SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence Reporting for SAP ERP [original link is broken] .Note this is prototype not a product) and fetch your CRM data also in the virtual tables of the DF. Still you have to rebuild your hierarchies manually in the universe.

  • Data Federator data lineage and impact analysis

    Hi,
I am looking for the use of data lineage and impact analysis feature in data federator at Universe level.
Can I know which objects are using which fields by uisng impact feature in the data federator.
    Thanks in Advance.

I realize this answer is a cop out but I'll suggest it anyway. Upgrade.
I struggled with getting the lineage and impact analysis working in 10.1 and had to do quite a bit of trial and error in the Apache configuration files, DAD's ,etc. because the lineage reports were web based. I never got them working in Production due to other much more pressing implementation issues at the time and never went back to fix them.
In 10.2 and above the reports are much easier to get with no real configuration needed.
Anyway, back to your question, I would suggest going back through the 10.1 documentation on getting those to work and have someone a bit familiar with setting up Apache help you. I did get them working in our Test environment but its been so long I can't recall all the steps and tricks, sorry.

  • Data Federator and Information Design tool

    Hi,
First, Can Data Federator be a single data source for Information Design Tool?
Second, from performance point of view, using Information Design tool to build multi-sources Universe or building Universe on Data Federator, which way is better?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    let me explain :
in BI 4.0, the Data Federator Query Server engine is now part of the server-side Adaptive Processing Server .
You only invoke this architecture when you select "Multi Source Enabled" -  any other entry point is NOT using the Data Federation Service.
So - if you select SingleSource -  that's not using DF.
However, it is entirely possible to select "Multi Source Enabled" then only use 1 connection in the MSU !!
Having said the above,  Your second question doesn't make sense.
Unless you mean, using the Data Federator middleware driver in BI 4.0 IDT, to connect to an XI 3.1 Data Federator Query Server?   (i.e. consuming the 'old source' in the new enviornment)
This backwards compatibility was delivered to facilitate transition of DF customers, especially since there is no standalone DF product in BI 4.0 (yet)
I trust this is of use to you.

    H

  • Data Federator connection error

    Hi experts,
I am trying to connect Data Federator 3.0 SP2 to Netweaver BI 7.1 SP3 and getting the following error..
" The connection Data Federator Query Server Failed.. An Exception occured when querying Data Federator Query Server ...
      com.sap.conn.jco.JCoException: (109) RFC_ERROR_CANCELLED. Handle close pending..."
    Scenario:
I have created a new project in Data Federator and trying to Add a DataSource to it. When I fill in required details and click " Test Connection" button, the above mentioned error comes up.
I am pretty sure, I have connected to BI system before using the same username, password, client, hostname etc... before. However I am getting the error when I try now.
By the way, I have registered the callbackServerprogramID on DataFederator as well as BI as per user guide.
Could any one please share any ideas/ solutions
    Thanks a lot

  • Data federator 32/64 bit with SAP?

We have a problem in Data federator that after the installation in "data source" there should be an SAP value that isn't there (this shold be active after SP).
We have installed the multi platform edition in both 32 and 64 bit version, and also SP2 IA32 and 64.
I've tries the both versions 32 and 64.
Does anyone know how to sole this?
    regards Jacob

To be more exact on what my colleague is describing above, the data source type that is missing is the SAP NW BW not SAP.  Also, we have SAP NW BI 7.01 level 7, DF XI 3.0 SP2 and BOE 3.1 installed.
    Thank you.
    Best regards,

  • Data federator

    Hello Experts,
I am just wondering how is Data federator to create Web Intelligence reports on top of SAP BW Infoproviders using Relational universe instead of OLAP universe.
My requirement is that we want to create universes with all the custom objects for calculations in it instead of creating them in bex query or in some in reporting level.
Please advise and also I would appreciate if some can  please provide me some links on Data federator.
    Thanks.
    Rag

Data Federator uses the Data Federator facade to query the BW analytic engine, bypassing the OLAP MDX engine.  It transforms the data into relational structures.  You can then query these relational tables using a universe and webi.
