Data guard between different platforms?

I'm pretty sure the answer is no but just want to be sure, so my question is...Can you have a data guard physical standby server that is running on a different platform than the primary?
For instance, We have just been informed by our sakes rep that Oracle is dropping the Itanium platform because future releases of red hat will no longer be supporting the Itanium platform and that Oracle is following the red hat model...
Can we setup dataguard to migrate off of current hardware platform to a new X86_64 platform?
Thanks.

Thanks. This would follow the same rule that both, primary and standby must run on the same platform and o/s. So I guess, the answer would be that you would need to move both of your servers. But, just to be assure, you should raise the same question on the dedicated forum of dataguard where product manager of DG , Larry Carpenter hangs around as well. That would be the place where I would ask my data guard doubts.

  • Idoc data  comparison between different R/3 clients.

    Hi ppl ,
Is there a way idoc comparison can be done between different clients without going
by Segment by Segment comparison ?
I have a requirement wherein i have thousands of idocs in QA system and i need to
compare those with the ones in PROD system. The segments in the idocs may vary
depending on the data that flows from the third party system which will post idocs in R/3.
So, the segment wise comparison of data is also ruled out .
Do we have any standard reports which will help in achieving this purpose ?
Please let me know how the idoc data comparison can be carried out .
    Regards,
    Nick.

    Hi Nick,
There is no standared tools available for comparing the data of two idocs.
By using beyond compare s/w you can check the data, but the thing is you have to download the idoc data to file format.
By using Idoc_xml_transform function module you can download idoc data to xml format, after you can compare.
    Check this

  • Urgent! Application tier and Data tier on different platforms

    Hello!
I would be very grateful if someone confirms that the deployment of the Beehive, where Application tier and Data tier are placed on different platforms, is supported.
For example, Oracle Database (Data tier) on Linux, and Oracle Application Server (Application tier) on Windows.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dima,
    Yes, this will work.

In case of Active Data Guard can i run different database versions (11.2.0.3  and 11.2.0.4) at Primary and DR for production environment ?  And will having RAC in environment make any difference?

    Hi,
    >>In case of Active Data Guard can i run different database versions (11.2.0.3  and 11.2.0.4) at Primary and DR for production environment ?
As per normal Data Guard requirement, Oracle 11.2 does support flexibility where Primary and Standby may have different hard wares such as CPU architecture and OS etc. but the Oracle RDBMS software version must be the same. Having said so does not mean it will not support it. Beginning with 11.1.07, a physical standby database can be used to execute a rolling database upgrade to a new Oracle Patch Set or database release by using the transient logical rolling database upgrade process. It means you can have with different database version but for how long, you need to check above documents.. For complete information you should read this note:

NO.   You can find answer at -  https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e41134/standby.htm#SBYDB4716
**The primary database can be a single instance database or an Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC) database. The standby databases can be single instance databases or Oracle RAC databases.

  • How to sync data/apps between different iTouches?

I have my itouch, and some apps for my kid.
If I buy a new itouch, I'd like to move all my existing data to the new ipod touch, then put only a few apps on the old ipod touch.
how would i go about managing multiple ipod touch devices using itunes?
Can I mix and match apps between the various ipods?

You can sync as many ipods as you like to one computer/library.
Each device is different and can be set to sync whatever you like.

  • Data migration between different ECC versions

Is there a way to migrate data between two different ECC versions?
I know that there are differences between the tables and therefore TDMS transports are not possible. But is there another way to get master data from one version (6.0 EHP 3) to another one (6.0 EHP 4)? For example a tool that can prepare the exported data for the import in a higher version?
    thx

That's indeed the most feasible option we have on the table right now. Although we have a lot of Z-fields and would need to transfer them with LSMW.

    Hello:
I need to know if it's possible, and in such a case what should I be aware of, to replicate data from a Oracle 9.2.0.8 Database (Solaris 9 SPARC 64 Datada) to another Oracle 9 (Linux 32 bit) Database.

Sure. Either Streams or materialized views could be used to replicate data between databases running on different operating systems.

  • Master Data conflict between different sources

    Hello Experts,
We have conflict in Master data which is getting extracted from different R3 systems.
So we have maintained the transcodifiction by adding Prefix ID of logical system ID for the second R/3 system where we have a confict in the Master data. (Say in my case we have this for 0Material, 0Vendor, 0Customer).
We have done this transcodification at the Transfer rule level by maintaining a routine for both the Attribut information and text information with some codifidition. And its working fine in Production.
Now we have stuck with the Hierarchy  information for this?
As in the case of Attr and Text we have option to write a routine at the transfer rule level but we dont have the same for Hierarchy!!!!
So please guide me as to what needs to be done for the Hierarchy level transcodification. (We are not maintaining this routine at the Object level but we are maintaing this at transfer rule level because of some reasons).
    Help me with the solution!
    Thanks

Are you maintaining hierarchy manually or loading via flat file ???
When you maintain you will have access to your transcoded master data hence you wil be able to maintain.
When you load from flat files you need to maintain it appropriately.
P.S : Didn't you go with compounding concept of sourcesystem or logsys to separate master data ??

  • Options to replicate between different platforms

    Hello,
I'm evaluating possibility to replicate between Oracle on HP-UX Itanium and Oracle on Linux x86_64.
On top of Oracle there is SAP.
I read Oracle articles for both Physical standby and Logical Standby and both don't support this configuration.
Also I know Libelle, but id doesn't neither support this.
What about other possibilities? Any one?
I read about Shareplex from Quest/Dell,
    here:
    http://documents.quest.com/QB31336
and it seems it is supported.
Though this KB doesn't seem very "appealing" as far as SAP is concerned:

Any info and/or suggestion is welcome.

  • Init SID .ora during configuration of Data Guard - advice required

    Hi All,
I am looking to implement data guard across 2 RAC clusters. One cluster will be primary and the other is for Disaster Recovery.
I have already set up the two 11g R 2 RAC clusters on RHEL 5 and now need some pointers to good docs for data guard install.
Can some one direct me to good step by step info for configuring data guard between to RAC clusters - detailed explanations of each step would be useful too, in particular around the init.ora file configuration changes between the primary and DR sites
    Much appreciated

  • Data Guard SetUp Q

For our new project we need zero data loss incase of disaster. I am thinking to use Data Guard between 2 remote data centers. I was going thru documentation and I have 1 Q:
In Maximum performance mode is it possible to have LGWR SYNC as a way to ship redo data?
If yes then wouldn't it be same as Maximum Availability?
If I use LGWR ASYNC , how much data loss can I expect?
Any help would be much appreciate
    Thanks
    Kanwal

You can check Oracle doc to fully understand the difference between LGWR SYNC Archival Processing
    and LGWR ASYNC Archival Processing
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/log_transport.htm#i1265730
The main difference is SYNC will not commit change on primary until transaction is received on standby. ASYNC will not wait for remote confirmation.
If your network connection between standby and primary is not reliable it will have huge impact on performance. So it depends on how remote your standby is.
On the primary database, the LGWR process submits the redo data to one or more network server (LNSn) processes, which then initiate the network I/O in parallel to multiple remote destinations. Transactions are not committed on the primary database until the redo data necessary to recover the transaction is received by all LGWR SYNC destinations.
When the LGWR and ASYNC attributes are specified, the log writer process writes to the local online redo log file, while the network server (LNSn) processes (one for each destination) asynchronously transmit the redo to remote destinations. The LGWR process continues processing the next request without waiting for the LNS network I/O to complete.
