Data maintenance in mdm - Beginner ?

Hello friedns,
I'm a begginer in MDM.
Can anyone tell me,
1. How data is stored in MDM?
2. take an example, I have an R/3 system & now i'm connecting it to my MDM system and load the datas to it from R/3.so what will happen to the data? whether the dats will be replicated or it will be moved & R/3 fetches from the MDM whenever it requires data .

It's not a physical move/relocation of master data:
Once master data has been uploaded and consolidated on the Master Data Server, it is stored there as a reference object (Master Data Server Object)and a replicate (with the appropriate information) will be sent to the relevant client systems to automatically create/update master data in the client systems.
To get an overview of the process flow within Master Data Harmonization, see the Scenario Description http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mdm300/helpdata/EN/a4/69c33eb9601549e10000000a114084/frameset.htm.

  • Help Required -- Can we use SQL Query to READ data from SAP MDM Tables

    Hi All,
    Please help.........
Can we use SQL Query to READ(No Creation/Updation/Deletion  just Read) Data from SAP MDM tables directly, without using MDM Syndicator.
Or direct SQL access to SAP MDM tables is not possible. Only through MDM Syndicator can we export data.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards

All the tables you create in Repository comes under A2i_CM_Tables in Database named as your repository name. So the tables names are fields of table A2i_CM_Tables. Now i tried it but cant make it.
Now, I dont think its possible to extract all fields in tables and there values using select query. May be pure sql guy can do that or not.
But there is no relation of data extraction and syndicator. Data is viewed in Data Manager. and you can also store data in a file from DM also.

  • Open Transactions in ECC for Master Data changes in MDM

    Hi All,
I have a basic Design question on how to handle the impact of Data changes in MDM for any open transactions with that Master object. For eg if we have a Material set up in MDM and in ECC and there are open Purchase Orders for that Material, now if the Base Unit of Measure is changed in MDM and gets harmonized to ECC(After Workflow approval of the Change) how will it impact the PO attached to the material . Can we do any configuration in ECC that will restrict any Open PO s not to take the new changed value and any new POs taking up the new Base Unit of Measure , or can we set up an alert/notification that will trigger for a PO whenever any Master Data is changed and the PO takes the new changed value on the fly . What will be the best approach from a solution point of view .
    Thanks ,
    Prabuddha

    Hi Prabuddha,
In ECC if a change happens to a master data not all the changes are reflected automatically in the open documents like open PO or open Sales order. Some fields values have to be redetermined for eg: "pricing procedure", some of them needs to be changed manually for eg: "Description". Moreover specific to your eg of Base unit of measure, this is a sensitive field and has lot of impact on the process so there for changing such fields it is necessary to close all the open documents against the Master data record in consideration. This fact is regardless whether the change happens through an IDoc or directly by MM02/XK02/XD02
Prabudha, Please revert if you have further questions.

    Maintenance view problem
    <b>Question 1>>>></b>
    > I have created a table with Display/maintenance allowed and technical setting Data class - APPL0 (master data, transparent tables).
    >> Then I have created a maintenance view thought utilities->table maintenance generator where i have specified the Authorization group as &NC& (w/o auth. group)
->and also created a function group and specified in the maintenance screen-> I have selected maintenance type as one step-> i have given the overview screen number->and in Recording routine i have selected - no, or user ,recording routine.
    >>> Now when i go to transaction SM30  and put the table name and press on maintain button I get a information box saying "<b>No data maintenance Authorization; Display only"....</b> and it only displays the data.
my problem is I want to enter data through maintenance view (SM30).
<b>2nd Question >>>></b> once i create a function group for maintenance view how can i assign a transaction for this. <i>(as if i do it as we do for a module pool program it gives me error)</i>Thank you.

SE93.  Enter a transaction name.  Create.  In the pop up enter a title and select 'Transaction with parameters'.
    Next screen fill the following;
    Transaction 'SM30'
    Check 'Skip first screen'

  • ABAP API to store DATE value in MDM 5.5

    Hello All,
Currently I am working on MDM 5.5 and need to have some suggestions on ABAP API Function module to store date values in MDM.
We have interface from where we take the user input which updates the field value back in the MDM.
On the basis of similar scenario we have "DATE" field on the interface which will update the date and time in MDM, also we are making use of ABAP API for development.
The problem is that data type mismatch is happening between MDM and ABAP API,please let me know which ABAP API Function module should we use which simply accepts the DATE and TIME for every single record.
Source code provided will be much more appreciable.
    Regards,
    Swapnil

    Hi Swapnil.
In the same link provided by Sudhanshu, can you navigate to the node "Retrieving Complex Types".
It has sample codes and MDM interfaces for TimeStamp, Time Stamp, User Stamp, Literal Date, Literal Time etc.
As suggested, you can also try to use the type MDM_CDT_DATE_TIME.
See the sample code provided in the link as below:
    Type: MDM Literal date:
        CLEAR lv_date.
CONVERT TIME STAMP ls_result_ddic_ex-fieldliteraldate-content TIME ZONE sy-zonlo INTO DATE lv_date.
        WRITE: AT (10) lv_date, '|'.
      Type: MDM Literal time:
        CLEAR lv_time.
CONVERT TIME STAMP ls_result_ddic_ex-fieldliteraltime-content TIME ZONE sy-zonlo INTO TIME lv_time.
        WRITE: AT (10) lv_time, '|'.

  • Permit or forbid master data maintenance ?

I'm trying to process some deletions of Master Data InfoObjects but it doesn't seem to be deleting!
Does anyone know if there is anywhere which states whether you can permit or forbid master data maintenance?
    Regards,
    Mark.

    Hi Mark,
The best thing to do will be to see where the Infoobject is used
go to the Infoobject and click on where used
You will get a list of cubes, ods, infoobjects where the infoobject is used, the delete the data from there. And after this you sill be allowed to delete the data in the Infoobject.
Do the above things if you are int he development environment only
For production environment proceed as follows
Go to the where used list, make a note of the ods, cube and infoobjects where it is used.
Now go the database utility of the the master data tables for this infoobject and delete all the data.
Go to transaction rsrv and do a check on this infoobject, repair if necessary and then reload it.
Make a realignment run on it
The one by one you may need to reload all the objects u listed above in a proper order, realign them, repair using RSRV whereaver necessary.
Note: In any case u cn refer to the log for master data deletion to see whats going wrong ok..
    Best luck

  • Data Maintenance Web Dynpro ABAP versus Classic ABAP

I am working on a project where I will have to create a couple of custom master data tables. In classic SAP it is very easy to create standard table maintenance screens for master data via transaction SE54 where you can assign an authorization group for security purposes if necessary. Although we very much like Web Dynpro ABAP development, I cannot find an easy way to create the same userfriendly table maintenance screens as we know them in classic SAP.
That's why I am a bit in doubt: on the one hand we want the web look and feel, but on the other hand creating the maintenance functionality in classic sap is very simple and straight forward. Whatever the solution will be, classic or not, it will become part of a portal someday. I know both solutions can be linked to a portal so that's no decision maker in our case.
Does somebody have any idea if there is something available for generating standard data maintenance screens in Web Dynpro ABAP without the need for a lot of additional coding? Basically I am looking for a web dynpro replacement for transaction SE54.
    Looking forward to your thoughs!!
    kind regards
    Angelique Heutinck
    IFF

    Hi Angelique Heutinck  ,
Webdynpro abap is a screen design interface, as module pool, in module pool development we can only desigh screens, similarly in wda is also intented to design screen that are web enabled,
while in classical abap we have the povision to call a transaction from a screen, while in wda, we have the provision to call another screen or view, but not a transaction.
unfortunately we cant embedd a tranction inside a wda development, so the only provision to simulate SE54 in wda is to create screens manually.

  • Material master data maintenance strategy

    Hi,
We are working on a global template to suggest Material master data maintenance strategy.
Please suggest what could be various options for same.
    Regards,
    Avnish

    Hello,
    In the same situation now:
    1.  Suggestion is to load the Basic Data centrally, say from HQ
    2.  Other data can be loaded via the subsidiary in the different countries.
    3.  If required you can use a block or a material statu and have the HQ control the access to the other parts of the material master.
For your information, we have come across a big issue regarding this and only now we have begun the above method as my client's HQ controls the release of materials into the market.

  • System Data Maintenance authorization AI_SC_REFRESH_READ_ONLY_DAT

I am running AI_SC_REFRESH_READ_ONLY_DATA as a batch job to load customers for our VAR customers however after this the customers are not created as business partners.
The job log  has the message - User S000xxxxx - System Data Maintenance authorization not found for customer 0000xxxxxx.
Checking in user maintenance on the support portal the S-Number used only appears to have authorisations for our internal VAR systems.
How do I get system maintenance authorisation for our VAR client systems - and is this the solution to this error message?
    Thanks for your help.

You need one RFC per VAR customer number (probably, it's just one RFC SM_SP_ <VAR customer number>).
You require an S-User of the customer with appropiate authorizations. The solution is not add authorization to the VAR S-User, but to get a S-User of the customer.
Add the S-User in AISUSER as follows:
background job user <customer number 1> <S-User without S of customer number 1>
background job user <customer number 2> <S-User without S of customer number 2>
background job user <customer number 3> <S-User without S of customer number 3>

  • Regarding Data Maintenance Tool

    Hi ABAPers,
Can any one Explain me what is the use of Data Maintenance Tool. And also let me know where and how to create this tool.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Ramana Prasad. T

    Hi Ramana,
    <b>
Mass Maintenance to SAP Data – Current Situation</b>
If only a few tens of records are to be added or updated, entering this data manually into SAP is a reasonable option. However, if several hundred to several thousand records are to be updated, manual data entry is not an ideal choice. Manual data entry can get very expensive and time consuming and is not the best utilization of corporate resources – this is especially wasteful for data that already exists in another digital format, e.g., Excel files. Not only that, manual data entry is very error prone and can lead to severely degraded data quality.
The SAP mass-change transactions are only useful for fairly simple data change scenarios where one or more fields need to be changed to a constant value for all records. Most mass changes scenarios are more complex than that and the second and third options are the ones mostly chosen.
The other tools provided by SAP for automating mass maintenance of data, include tools such as ABAP and LSMW, which are extremely technical in nature and require technical experts in the IT departments to create special-purpose data upload programs. Following the standard change control procedures and industry standard software development practices, writing these special programs ends up being a very time consuming and a very expensive proposition for most companies. Further, many of these programs are throw-away programs written for one-time use only.
    <b>
Mass Maintenance to SAP Data– Ideal Scenario</b>
An ideal tool for mass maintenance of SAP data would let the data update projects to be implemented by the end user departments themselves. A few super-users within these end-user departments that supply the data should have the ability to transfer the data themselves without relying on technical experts. Such a tool would significantly cut the time and effort required in SAP data maintenance.
The ideal tool for mass maintenance of SAP data should be easy to learn and should require no programming. Furthermore, such a tool should work across all the different SAP modules and the SAP products, including the different versions of SAP

  • Data extraction from MDM

    Hi Experts,
I would like to extract all the data available in MDM data manager, includes tuple data for verification purpose. What are the possible ways I can do this?
    - Export to Excel in MDM (doesn't supports tuple data) - correct?
    - Directly from Oracle database
    - Any other possibilities.
Also I would like to get tuple data, each filed in separate column.
    Thanks,
    Bob

You can perform syndication to extract the data from the MDM or use the MDM Java/.NET API to access the data using an external custom application. For more information about both, check the help pages below

    Thanks!

    Hi Dmitriy,
    1.
These tables are maintained by the report AI_SC_GET_SAP_CUSTOMER_NUMBERS.
Also, the report uses the S user is stored in the RFC SAP-OSS to determine all the SAP customer numbers that you support.
So, an S user from the Service Provider, with a password that has authorization to
display all customer information for the VAR customer numbers, must be available in the
    RFC SAP-OSS.
For further information you can check note 1151450.
    2.
To run the report AI_SC_REFRESH_READ_ONLY_DATA, you should be able to perform the above activitie first and flag customer numbers or installations for generating the data.
