Data Modeler 3EA2 SDO_GEOMETRY stays in outgoing changes after commit

I try to add changes to SVN repository, but I keep having Structured Type SDO_GEOMETRY in my outgoing changes even after commit. I don't use that datatype in my model. After the very first commit there were 0 outgoing changes left, but the next time I opened the model it appeared there (even before I made any changes to the model).

Hi,
can you navigate to this type in Pending Changes window and from context menu choose "Compare With / Last Synchronized (Local) - as text"
This should show the changes to the type and would be helpful to investigate what the problem is.
Please write the changed attributes of the file here.
Thanks
Ivaylo

    add Column_1 - number - primary key
    Create table TABLE_2
    add Column_2 - varchar2 - primary key
    create foreign key TABLE_2_TABLE_1_FK

    TABLE_1_Column_1       Column_1Press ok - and the column <B>TABE_2.TABLE_1_Column_1 datatype becomes UNKNOWN </B>. It was number.
    Situation before problem happens looks like following. If the model is reverse engineered from this DDL the problem does not happen.
    CREATE TABLE TABLE_1
         Column_1 NUMBER  NOT NULL
    ALTER TABLE TABLE_1
        ADD CONSTRAINT TABLE_1_PK PRIMARY KEY ( Column_1 ) ;

    ALTER TABLE TABLE_2
        ADD CONSTRAINT TABLE_2_TABLE_1_FK FOREIGN KEY
         TABLE_1_Column_1
        REFERENCES TABLE_1
         Column_1
    ;

    Hi Rafu,
    I logged bug for that.
    Import of DDL is not the only way to get it working , just need to follow the steps in DDL. TABLE_1_Column_1 column is automatically created FK column when you work manually. If you create it before FK (set data type) and then select it as FK column you'll have the same behavior as in import of DDL.

  • Customized table cell renderer doesn't work after table data model changed

    Hi:
    I have a jtable with a custimized table cell render (changes the row color). Everything works fine while the data model is unchanged. I can change the row color, etc. However, after I delete one row or any number of rows in the table, the data model is updated and the custmized table cell renderer is not being called anymore while jtable is rendering on its cells. Seems like the table cell render is no long associated with the jtable. Is this a known problem? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    I am having the same problem. Has anybody solved this issue?

  • Some observations on my first use of Data Modeler Beta

    First of all, I can see this tool has a lot of promise.
    I hope Oracle keeps at it, it could turn into a real winner if all the features I see being worked on mature.
    Thanks!
    Here are a few observations on things that I found non-obvious or tedious to do.
    1. When designing an entity, I want to give it a name, a definition, attributes and keys. I want that process to be quick and require the minimum amount of mouse-clicking/navigation fiddling as possible. The current way of defining the attribute's datatype and size is painfully slow. I have to click to get a pop-up. Then I have to click to choose from a set of categories. Then I have to click on a dropdown list. If I try to use the down-arrow on the dropdown list, it works, but not if I go past the one I want. The up-arrow won't take me backwards in the list, so more clicking. It's just a nasty, slow interface to do a simple task that I have to do a thousand times in a data model. If I need to change the size of something, back I go thru the entire process all over again.
    That makes it doubly slow to work in the most natural way, which is to list the attributes and the datatypes, then come back and refine the sizes once the model is maturing and relatively stable.
    2. Adding an additional attribute requires a mouse click instead of a down-arrow. That means I have to take my hands off the keyboard to add a new attribute. Maybe there is some short-cut key that does that, but I have better things to do than memorize non-standard keyboard mappings. Make the down/up arrows works as they should.
    3. Adding the comment that describes the attributes is not quite as slow, but still requires more keystrokes/mouse movements than it should. It's hard enough to get developers to document their attributes, don't discourage them.
    4. I can't see the list of attributes, data types, sizes, key/mandatory settings, and the comment at one time while editing the entity. Makes it harder to grasp what all the attributes mean at a glance, which slows down the modeling and the comprehension of an existing model.
    5. All the entities I created had primary keys with columns in them. But when I tried to have it build a physical model, it complained that some relationships had no columns in them. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to fix that. Never had that problem in any other case tool.
    6. Getting it to generate DDL was awkward to find. Make it something obvious, like a button on the toolbar that says "Generate DDL".
    7. Apostrophes in the Comments in RDBMS are not escaped, so the generated DDL won't run.
    8. For the ease of use/speed of use testing on high-volume key tasks, make the developers do the task 1000 times in a row. Make them use long names that require typing, not table A with columns c1, c2 and c3. Long before they get to iteration 1000 they will have many ideas on how to make that task easier and faster to do.
    9. Make developers use names of things that are the maximum length allowed. For example, for a table name in oracle, the max length of the name is 30 characters. The name of one testing table should be AMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMZ. That's a capital A followed by 28 capital M's and a capital Z. For numbers, use the pattern 1555559. If the developers can't see the A and Z or 1 and 9 in the display area for the name in the default layout for the window, they did the display layout wrong. For places where the text can be really long, choose a "supported visible length" for that field and enter data in the pattern AMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMQMMMMMMMMZ, where Q is placed at the supported visible length. if the A and Q don't show, the layout is wrong.
    10. SQL Developer has quite a few truly gooberish UI interaction designs and I can see some of that carrying over to the Data Modeler tool. I really recommend getting a windows UI expert to design the ui interface, not a java expert. I've seen a lot of very productive windows user interfaces and extremely few java interfaces suitable for high-speed data entry. Give the UI expert the authority to tell the java programmers "I don't want to hear about java coding internals - make the user interface perform this way." I think the technical limitations in java UIs are much less than the mindset limitations I've seen in all to many programmers. That, and making the developers use their code 1000 times in a row to perform key tasks will cause the UI to get streamlined considerably.
    Thanks, and keep up the good work!

    Dear David,
    Again thank you for your valuable and highly appreciated feedback. Find included a more elaborated answer to your observations:
    *1. When designing an entity, I want to give it a name, a definition, attributes and keys.*
    In the new Early Adopter Release, a "SQL developer like" property window has been added for Entities and Tables. For each attribute/column you will have the ability to add name, datatype, Primary Key, Mandatory and comment from one and the same screen
    *2. Adding an additional attribute requires a mouse click instead of a down-arrow.*
    An enhancement request has been created
    *3. Adding the comment that describes the attributes is not quite as slow, but still requires more keystrokes/mouse movements than it should.*
    In the new Early Adopter Release, a "SQL developer like" property window has been added for Entities and Tables. For each attribute/column you will have the ability to add name, datatype, PK, M and comment from one and the same screen
    *4. I can't see the list of attributes, data types, sizes, key/mandatory settings, and the comment at one time while editing the entity. Makes it harder to grasp what all the attributes mean at a glance, which slows down the modeling and the comprehension of an existing model.*
    See former answers. For meaning of attributes you can also use the Glossary and Naming Standardization facilities: see Tools Option menu, Glossary and General Options for naming standards
    *5. All the entities I created had primary keys with columns in them. But when I tried to have it build a physical model, it complained that some relationships had no columns in them. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to fix that. Never had that problem in any other case tool.*
    A Bug report has been created. Issue will most probably be solved in the nexr Early Adopter release
    *6. Getting it to generate DDL was awkward to find. Make it something obvious, like a button on the toolbar that says "Generate DDL".*
    An enhancement request has been created.
    *7. Apostrophes in the Comments in RDBMS are not escaped, so the generated DDL won't run.*
    A bug report has been created
    *8. For the ease of use/speed of use testing on high-volume key tasks, make the developers do the task 1000 times in a row. Make them use long names that require typing, not table A with columns c1, c2 and c3. Long before they get to iteration 1000 they will have many ideas on how to make that task easier and faster to do.*
    I aplogize, but I don't understand clearly what you want to say with the use/speed of use here.
    *9. Make developers use names of things that are the maximum length allowed.*
    Our relational model is for use for not just Oracle, but also DB2, SQL Server and in the future maybe other database systems. Whicjh means that we can't taylor it to just one of these database systems. However you can set maxinum name lenghts by clicking right on the diagram and select Model Properties and here you can set naming Options. Here you can also use the Glossary and Naming Standardization facilities: see Tools Option menu, Glossary and General Options for naming standards
    *10. SQL Developer has quite a few truly gooberish UI interaction designs and I can see some of that carrying over to the Data Modeler tool.*
    Fully agree. As you will see in our next Early Adopter release we have started to use SQL Developer like UI objects.

  • Service doesn't update after data model updating

    Hello, dear experts!
    I have a question.
    I created OData Service and all is OK.
    After that I have updated data model. MPC methods have been changed with my new updates. But I can't see new service metadata document, browser displays old version of it. And service works in the way like old version of data model is actual.
    I don’t understand this behavior.
    In the book “OData and SAP NetWeaver Gateway” I have read that it is not “waterfall” approach in Gateway, which means that we can make changes in all 3 service creation phases (data model definition, service implementation and service maintenance) in the order we want.
    I tried regenerate runtime objects and reactivate service, clear browser cache, but it didn’t help.
    I put external breakpoint into DEFINE method of the MPC class and send some requests to server, but debugger doesn’t open. It looks like some kind of server cache.
    I think it is incorrect behavior. What would you recommend?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ihar

    This feature is available from SP7
    Go the the link below and search for "Reloads the service metadata for the annotation models."

  • Oracle Data Modeler commit change seg physical table

    Hello,
    Sometimes when I record a data model, Oracle Data Modeler (SVN) given as outgoing a chage of segment of physical table , if you committees are to change, duplication of files in the physical model is produced. Later when you open the physical model gives errors that have duplicate files
    How you can correct this error? Why the segment change occurs?
    Thanks

  • How to get data model to recognize structure change

    I have an extremely complex report that was built almost entirely manually -- except for using the Data Wizard to create the Data Model (multiple queries with multiple groups). The source view that the query Q-1 is based on has changed. It is a change in the precision of the column. How do I get the data model to notice that change? The Width in the Property Palette is still showing 8 when it should now be 16. This is causing the display on the report to be truncated to 8 characters.
    I don't want to have to rebuild the data model. It took me 3 days to get it so that it works!
    Thanks

    PLS OPEN THE QUERY AND THEN CONNECT USING YOUR USER. I THINK WHEN YOU REFRESH THE QUERY AND CONNECT THEN WIDTH IS CHANGE AS THE COLUMN IN THE DATABASE.(i.e. 16)
    THANKS,
    FAROOQ Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the same thing happens when I do this as happens if I modify the query with a space (as before); the rows are removed from their groups, and I lose the Source of my calculated fields.
    If anyone is interested, I finally found a way to do this:
    1. Convert the report into a text file (File>Administration>Convert);
    2. open the text file in a text editor;
    change the offensive WIDTH settings (make sure to look for all of them);
    3. save the text file;
    4. then convert it back to a RDF file using the converter.
    A round-about way to perform what should be an automatic operation -- but there it is.

  • Using CVS in SQL Developer for Data Modeler changes.

    Hi,
    I am fairly new to SQL Developer Data Modeler and associated version control mechanisms.
    I am prototyping the storage of database designs and version control for the same, using the Data Modeler within SQL Developer. I have SQL Developer version 3.1.07.42 and I have also installed the CVS extension.
    I can connect to our CVS server through sspi protocol and external CVS executable and am able to check out modules.
    Below is the scenario where I am facing some issue:
    I open the design from the checked out module and make changes and save it. In the File navigator, I look for the files that have been modified or added newly.
    This behaves rather inconsistently in the sense that even after clicking on refresh button, sometimes it does not get refreshed. Next I try to look for the changes in Pending Changes(CVS) window. According to the other posts, I am supposed to look at the View - Data Modeler - Pending Changes window for data modeler changes but that shows up empty always( I am not sure if it is only tied to Subversion). But I do see the modified files/ files to be added to CVS under Versioning - CVS - Pending Changes window. The issue is that when I click on the refresh button in the window, all the files just vanish and all the counts show 0. Strangely if I go to Tools - Preferences - Versioning - CVS and just click OK, the pending changes window gets populated again( the counts are inconsistent at times).
    I believe this issue is fixed and should work correctly in 3.1.07.42 but it does not seem to be case.
    Also, I m not sure if I can use this CVS functionality available in SQL Dev for data modeler or should I be using an external client such as Wincvs for check in/ check out.
    Please help.
    Thanks

    Hi Joop,
    I think you will find that in Data Modeler's Physical Model tree the same icons are used for temporary Tables and Materialized Views as in SQL Developer.

  • Crashes when changing editing data model

    Reports 6i crashes (My windows (Unix) disappears) often when I am changing the data model (i.e removing and adding columns). I did figure out one thing and that is you when you delete a column that has a data link without removing the data link first it will not remove the column and the report will crash when you attempt to make an additional changes to that query that was changed. Any additional reasons?

    Kathy,
    Suggest you log a TAR with Oracle Support on this issue. The builder should not be crashing and I did not find any bugs logged. They will need to reproduce the problem and log a bug if necessary. You will need to supply them with the specific version of Reports and the operating system.

  • Data Modeler Incremental Database Changes

    We need the tool to determine the differences between the database and the model, so that it generates DDL only for the changes without us having to tell the tool at DDL creation time which are the new tables, columns, indexes, etc. Is this feature available already or would this be a new feature?

    Hi,
    Yes, this feature is already available.
    If the model was initially imported from the database, you can use Synchronize Data Dictionary with Model (either for individual objects, or for the whole model using the right-pointing arrow above the diagram).
    This displays the Compare Models dialog identifying the differences. You can use its DDL Preview button to generate DDL to update the database.
    There's a short video demonstrating this at http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=44785:24:689545084496101::NO:24:P24_CONTENT_ID,P24_PREV_PAGE:5951,2
    If the model was not imported from the database, you can do the following:
    Open your model (including the relevant Physical Model).
    Use Import/Data Dictionary to start the Data Dictionary Import Wizard. In step 2, select the "Swap Target Model" tick box. And select the relevant objects to import from the database.
    After the import phase, this will display the Compare Models dialog as in the previous case.
    There is now a forum specifically for Data Modeler topics: SQL Developer Data Modeler

  • Easily Data model change.

    Sometimes we need to change project data model after creating Bussiness Comp diagram.
    fro example Add new column to the table, change relation etc.
    So we need to change entity, view and application module objects
    Is there any easy way to make this.
    such as refresh model from database.
    we are using 10.1.3.1.
    thanks...

    Right clicking on an entity object and choosing synchronize with database will look up the DB structure for any changes related to the entity and will allow you to add/delete attributes as needed.

  • Sql Developer Data Modeler all domains lost after changing to version 3.0

    I have two questions:
    1. Sql Developer Data Modeler - is it still a separate product? Or is it only available as integrated within Sql Developer?
    2. After opening a model created with Data Modeler 2.0 with the new integrated Data Modeler 3.0 I lost all my domain definitions. What can I do to avoid this? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Holger,
    Sql Developer Data Modeler - is it still a separate product? Or is it only available as integrated within Sql Developer?Standalone version is here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/datamodeler/overview/index.html
    2. After opening a model created with Data Modeler 2.0 with the new integrated Data Modeler 3.0 I lost all my domain definitions. What can I do to avoid this? Any help would be appreciated.Copy file defaultdomains.xml from DM 2.0 installation to "sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\extensions\oracle.datamodeler\types" directory (if you use version in SQL Developer) or to
    "datamodeler\datamodeler\types" if you use standalone DM 3.0.
    Location of this directory can be set in preferences - it's called system types directory there - it contains: default domains, RDBMS sites, logical types and custom scripts.

  • Can you change the data model query dynamically based on its parent query

    Hi
    Question:
    I have a data model query q1 and q2 is the child of q1
    Say q1 returns 2 rows and and
    for the first row
    i want q2 to be select 1 from table1
    for the second row
    i want q2 to be select 1 from table2
    Basically i want to build the q2 dynamically
    for each row fetched in q1.
    Can this be done?
    If so where do i write the code to achieve this
    Thanx in advance.
    Suresh

    One simple (but not very realistic) example:
    1. DATABASE TABLES AND DATA
    CREATE TABLE dept_all (
    deptno NUMBER (2),
    dname VARCHAR2 (20),
    in_usa CHAR (1) DEFAULT 'Y')
    INSERT INTO dept_all VALUES (10, 'DEPT 10', 'Y');
    INSERT INTO dept_all VALUES (20, 'DEPT 20', 'N');
    INSERT INTO dept_all VALUES (30, 'DEPT 30', 'Y');
    CREATE TABLE emp_usa (
    empno NUMBER (4),
    ename VARCHAR2 (20),
    deptno NUMBER (2))
    INSERT INTO emp_usa VALUES (1001, 'EMP 1001', 10);
    INSERT INTO emp_usa VALUES (1002, 'EMP 1002', 10);
    INSERT INTO emp_usa VALUES (3001, 'EMP 3001', 30);
    INSERT INTO emp_usa VALUES (3002, 'EMP 3002', 30);
    CREATE TABLE emp_non_usa (
    empno NUMBER (4),
    ename VARCHAR2 (20),
    deptno NUMBER (2))
    INSERT INTO emp_non_usa VALUES (2001, 'EMP 2001', 20);
    INSERT INTO emp_non_usa VALUES (2002, 'EMP 2002', 20);
    2. DATABASE PACKAGE
    Note that Oracle Reports 3.0 / 6i needs 'static' ref cursor type for building Report Layout.
    So, in package specification we must have both ref cursor types, static for Report Layout
    and dynamic for ref cursor query.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE example IS
    TYPE t_dept_static_rc IS REF CURSOR RETURN dept_all%ROWTYPE;
    TYPE t_dept_rc IS REF CURSOR;

    ename emp_usa.ename%TYPE);
    TYPE t_emp_static_rc IS REF CURSOR RETURN t_emp_rec;
    TYPE t_emp_rc IS REF CURSOR;
    FUNCTION emp_query (
    p_in_usa dept_all.in_usa%TYPE,
    p_deptno dept_all.deptno%TYPE)
    RETURN t_emp_rc;
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY example IS
    FUNCTION dept_query (p_where VARCHAR2) RETURN t_dept_rc IS
    l_dept_rc t_dept_rc;
    BEGIN
    OPEN l_dept_rc FOR
    'SELECT * FROM dept_all WHERE ' || NVL (p_where, '1 = 1') || ' ORDER BY deptno';
    RETURN l_dept_rc;
    END;
    FUNCTION emp_query (
    p_in_usa dept_all.in_usa%TYPE,
    p_deptno dept_all.deptno%TYPE)
    RETURN t_emp_rc
    IS
    l_emp_rc t_emp_rc;
    l_table VARCHAR2 (30);
    BEGIN
    IF p_in_usa = 'Y' THEN
    l_table := 'emp_usa';
    ELSE
    l_table := 'emp_non_usa';
    END IF;
    OPEN l_emp_rc FOR
    'SELECT * FROM ' || l_table || ' WHERE deptno = :p_deptno ORDER BY empno'
    USING p_deptno;
    RETURN l_emp_rc;
    END;
    END;
    3. REPORT - QUERY FUNCTIONS AND DATA LINK
    FUNCTION q_dept RETURN example.t_dept_static_rc IS
    BEGIN
    -- "p_where" is a User Parameter
    RETURN example.dept_query (:p_where);
    END;
    FUNCTION q_emp RETURN example.t_emp_static_rc IS
    BEGIN
    -- "in_usa" and "deptno" are columns from Parent Group (G_DEPT)
    RETURN example.emp_query (:in_usa, :deptno);

    Of course, we must create Data Link between Parent Group (G_DEPT) and Child Query (Q_EMP).

  • Data Modeler 3.3EA2 Driver Class Not Found

    When trying to connect to a SQL Server 2008R2 instance I get teh message "Status : Failure -Test failed: Driver class not found. Verify the Driver location"
    I have added the SQL Server JDBC Drivers to my PATH environmental variable, and even tried to put the JDBC driver into a folder without any white spaces in the directory name
    C:\Progra~1\Microsoft JDBC Driver 4.0 for SQL Server\sqljdbc_4.0\enu\sqljdbc4.jar;C:\Progra~1\Microsoft JDBC Driver 4.0 for SQL Server\sqljdbc_4.0\enu\sqljdbc.jar;C:\Temp\sqljdbc4.jar
    I also added the sqljdbc4.jar to the Data Modeler: Third Party JDBC Drivers screen.
    Any thoughts on what can be causing this issue?

    I was unable to get the JDBC ThirdParty Driver to work, since no matter what I did I could not get the Oracle Data Modeler to map to the JDBC jar file. Here is a work around...
    Steps to connect Data Modeler to a SQL Server database.
    On Windows 7
    1. Go to Adminstrative tools -> Data Sources (ODBC)
    2. Select System DSN and setup a connection to your SQL Server database
    3. In Data Modeler click File -> Import to bring up the Database connection string
    4. Click on the JDBC tab
    5. For the OCDBC alias use the connection name you created in step #2
    If anyone else is able to get the JDBC ThirdParty driver to work will you please post it here.

    We have a tool built in excel + Powerquery version 2.18.3874.242 - 32 Bit (No PowerPivot) using data load to data model (not to workbook). There are data filters linked to excel cells, inserted in OData query before data is pulled.

    The tool runs for all users as long as they do not upgrade to PowerQuery_2.20.3945.242 (32-bit).
    Once upgraded users can no longer get the data to load to the Model. Data still loads to the Workbook but the model breaks down. Resetting load to data model erases all measures.
