Questions on Subviews and Import/Export in Data Modeler v3 EA1.
I have a few questions about the capabilities of Data Modeler v3 EA1:
1) Is it possible to rename subviews? Would like more meaningful names then Relational_x - Subview_x.
2) Is it possible to save documents at subview level?
3) Is it possible to import/export subsets of data?
4) Having problems importing Erwin 7 .xml file, is there known problems with this import?
JudyHi Judy,
1) To rename a subview just right click on it in the browser tree and select "Properties". In the properties dialog change the name and click OK button.
2) You can save a subview as new Data Modeler design - from the File menu select Export -> To Data Modeling Design. In the newly opened dialog select the subview you want to export and click OK button.
3) After saving a subview as new design (see answer #2) it can be imported in some other design (File -> Import -> Data Modeler Design).
4) What kind of problems do you have with import of Erwin 7.* xml file?

MCTS 70-466 Implementing Data Models and Reports with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
I am searching for training kit for Exam 70-466 (Implementing Data Models and Reports with Microsoft SQL Server 2012) but I think is not published yet. I was expecting its release in Jan or Feb 2014. Would any one can tell me its release date or any place

Data Miner Navigator not visible in SQL developer 3.0.04
Hi ,
I have been trying to complete an OBE turorial on http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/11g/r2/prod/bidw/datamining/ODM11gR2-SetUp.htm?print=preview&imgs=visible
In the Install the Data Miner Repository section the tutor is advising to go to the following option :
From the SQL Developer menu, select View > Data Miner > Data Miner Navigator
In the current SQL developer version i do not see the Data Miner Navigator option.
Any guesses? The pre requisites says Oracle SQL Developer, version 3.0, or later and I am using 3.0.04
Rgds,
Dominic.Hi Dominic,
Sorry for the late response, I did not notice this posting.
We have a separate forum for data mining: Data Mining
Try to use that in the future so you get a quicker response.
It looks like the OBE course may have a typo or the menu item name was changed
For SQL Dev 3.0 you can display the data miner interfaces in the following way:
The following menu item will make the Data Miner Connections navigator, and all associated viewers (Component Palette, Workflow Jobs, and when necessary Thumbnail, Property Inspector)
Tools->Data Miner -> Make Visible
Go to the following to select just one of the viewers to be made visible:
View->Data Miner->Data Miner Connections
Other options off of the View->Data Miner menu item are: Workflow Jobs, Thumbnail, Property Inspector.
Thanks, Mark -
Hi, I have the same problem as the person who posted the question
The history is i already have oracle 10g express edition installed on my system but with it I cannot create tables or execute DML or DDL commands so I downloaded SQL developer .
When it came to the connection I wanted to fill in the Hostname , Port and SID in that order it gave me that same error "The network adapter could not establish connection ", and to fill in those spaces I used the link I saw when opening the Human Resources schema in the express edition(The schema came in the express edition and I used it to learn the SELECT statement). so i tried to use that address and it came in this format :- http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/f?p=4500:1000:3171371893604961
And since SQL told me to fill those parameters as Hostname:Port:SID I felt the use of the last 3 digits i.e 4500:1000:3171371893604961 would have worked but that is what is giving me the error.
I would appreciate the help. Thank youThis post has been branched off from and refers to

Data Modeler V3 EA1 versus V2.0?
I'm working on a large maintenance project to customize a number of complex applications (~500 tables in total) that have their logical and physical models stored in Designer 10g. If we were to migrate to SQL Developer Data Modeler for this project, would version 2.0 be suitable? Or is there enough missing functionality (as compared to Designer) that would make it unsuitable for a large, complex maintenance project?
I assume that version 3.0 EA1 is not ready for use on a mission-critical project. Correct?
I'd appreciate any suggestions that you might have.
Thanks.Hi,
you can try both versions. Data Modeler 3.0 is in beta phase and it's not recommended to use it for production. There is a bug in 3.0 EA1 and you cannot import from non versioned Designer repository.
v. 3.0 comes with integrated versioning support and improved functionality in different areas including import from Designer repository and management of large diagrams.

Data Modeler 3 (EA1): Connection issue when connecting to oracle 11R2
Hi all,
When I try to create a connection object for a oracle 11r2 database I get the following error:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-22285: non-existent directory or file for FILEEXISTS operation
ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_LOB", line 725
ORA-06512: at line 5
when I test the connection.
I have checked the oracle 11r2 instance and have 3 directory objects and all are correct;
SYS ORACLE_OCM_CONFIG_DIR /opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.1/ccr/state
SYS DATA_PUMP_DIR /opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.1/rdbms/log/
SYS XMLDIR /opt/oracle/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.1/rdbms/xml
What can cause this problem. I have the same issue with the older version of the data modeler
ThanksHey if you want me too I can create a tar/sr.
It happens even when I log in as sysdba. The three directory objects on the file system are all owned by oracle and oracle can rwx into those.
My user can see XMLDIR but does not have read/write on the directory object all other it does have read write.
Thanks.

Inserting and retrieving data from a al32UTF8 database USING SQL Developer
hi guys,
Before i post my questions , i think its better for me to provide you guys with my understandings first so that it easier to understand where/if i have gone wrong..
I am using Window XP and Oracle 10g
Non-unicode client - a client program that need to use the OS code page for mapping of the retrieved unicode data from the database as well as the support of displaying/inserting the characters from that code page to the database.
E.G sqlplusw.exe
Therefore, when using a non-unicode client
1) we have to set the OS code page (Control panel - regional and language setting - advance - language for non unicode program ) to the code page that contain the characters we are going to display/insert.
2) we will also have to set the NLS_LANG characterset to the character set of the code page we are going to insert so that when we do a insert (for e.g in thai ) , oracle will know, and auto conversion to UNICODE can take place. This is also true when we retrieve unicode data from the database so that conversion to the correct character set can take place.
INSERTING
THAI ---> conversion ----> UNICODE
RETRIEVING
THAI <---- conversion <---- UNICODE
I hope my basic understanding is correct up till this point.
Unicode client - a client program that supports the displaying/inserting of unicode characters without the need of setting the OS code page (Control panel - regional and language setting - advance - language for non unicode program )
E.G isqlplus http or SQL developer
However,
1) There is still a need to set the NLS_LANG so that correct conversion can take place between the client and the database.
For e.g, when retrieving if we set the NLS_LANG character set to ZHS16GBK (chinese) and the data store in unicode in database is E.G (THAI) , then the conversion would be wrong .
Since it is a unicode supported client, then the NLS_LANG character set should be set to UNICODE as well.
Here come my questions
*Important - please help if you are busy and have no other time to answer the rest of the questions
*Q1) If i were to use a unicode client, what should i set my NLS_LANG character set to ?
AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 ?
*Q2) Where do i set the NLS_LANG character set information in SQL Developer, i know there is a metalink for setting NLS_LANG using isqlplus but i cant seems to google any result for SQL developer.
Q3) Is my basic understanding right until this point ? If not, please explain in a more generalised term as i am really not familiar with character sets, code page, unicode , glyphs and fonts..
Q4) If a unicode client does not need to refer to the OS code page (set in regional and language) , is there a UNICODE code page for the client to refer to , or is there any Window API available ?
Q5)
There is still a need to set the NLS_LANG so that correct conversion can take place between the client and the >>database.
For e.g, when retrieving if we set the NLS_LANG character set to ZHS16GBK (chinese) and the data store in >>unicode in database is E.G (THAI) , then the conversion would be wrong .am i right on this point for UNICODE supported client ?
Thanks for spending time to read my questions and i hope to hear advices from you guys soon.
Million thanks again for sharing.
Best Regards,
Noob but willing to learnThe requirement to always set NLS_LANG is not true for JDBC, which ignores NLS_LANG altogether. Java programs fetch text data into String variables, which use Unicode UTF-16 by design. JDBC sets character set conversion so that data is converted between UTF-16 and the database or national character set.
The requirement to set NLS_LANG is not generally true for OCI, either. The first call in an OCI problem can be OCIEnvNlsCreate(). This call has two parameters that allow the caller to define the character set to use for VARCHAR2/CHAR/LONG/CLOB/statement text and the character set to use for NVARCHAR2/NCHAR/NCLOB. Only if these character sets are specified as 0, NLS_LANG character set is used. Also, OCI programs can specify different character sets for each bind or define variable (i.e. input/output buffer). Note: OCI programs always use NLS_LANG to initialize the language and territory settings for the client program and the database session. Only the character set can be specified is OCIEnvNlsCreate().
OCIEnvNlsCreate() can specify the client character set as UTF-16 (in platform endianess). This is not possible with NLS_LANG.
Various interfaces building on OCI, such as Oracle ODBC and ODP .NET, explicitly initialize OCI with Unicode character set, and thus ignore the NLS_LANG character set as well.
Thnx,
Sergiusz -
No more Data to read from socket from SQL Developer
Hi,
When I run the below query from SQL Developer, I get "No more data to be read from socket" error. The Oracle trace shows "Address not mapped".
select LDateDayPrec, LDateMonPrec, LDateOrder, LDateOrder_cd, LDateSep, LDateYearPrec,
LanguageCode, LanguageCode_cd, NegNumPres, NegNumPres_cd, NullNumPres, NullNumPres_cd,

SDateYearPrec, TimeFlg, WeekDayPres, WeekDayPres_cd, ZeroPres, ZeroPres_cd,Nls_profile_ver
FROM NLS_PROFILE WHERE NlsProfileId =1"
When I run the same query on the server through SQL Plus session, the result is getting fetched properly.
Next thing , when I select only 28 columns from the table in the above query, then also the row is getting fetched. I tried interchanging the columns. In that case also, the result is same. Also, when I do a "select * from NLS_PROFILE " , the row is getting fetched..
Can somebody help ?SQL> SELECT * from v$version;

EA1 - Exception when SQL Developer opens SQL files on startup
If I close SQL Developer with a file open, that file is automatically reopened when restarting SQL Developer. This works fine, but for each .sql file which does open, I get the following exception listed in the Logging Page's Log tab:
SEVERE 147 0 oracle.ide.IdeCore Exception firing mainWindowOpened to oracle.dbtools.sqlworksheet.sqlview.SqlEditorController$2@xxxxxxx
This doesn't happen for PL/SQL files (ie .pks, .pkb, etc) - just for .sql files.Fixed this in development code. Thx.

Bug SQL Developer 3.0.04 Save Package Spec and Body to ips file bug
Hi.
I have problem with export package body end header. Exported ips file have some rows switched compared to original source code.
SQL Developer version: 3.0.04. Build MAIN-04.34
Error simulation:
- Click on package header with right mouse button in SQL Developers Connections bar
- In context menu choose 'Save Package Spec and Body...'
- Save ips file... (Small bug: Offered file name is wrong (= last saved package/file, not actual name of package) :-( )
- This file(source code) compare with original source code in Developer and u will see switched rows every +-90. row in source code.
Can u fix this in next version of SQL Developer?
Thanks...

Oracle SQL Developer Cannot Cancel Queries Properly
This was a problem with version 2 and continues to be an issue with version 3. If I chose to cancel a query that is taking a long time to run it gives me the prompt and displays that the query was cancelled. However, the query is not actually cancelled and is still running in the background. The lock on the table still exists. How can I tell? Once a query is cancelled I attempt to exit the program and when I try to disconnect it says that the connection is busy. My only options are to try again or abort. First of all, these are terrible option names. How about changing these to try again or cancel, which is actually what abort does. Second, at this point there is no way to exit the application until the query completes in the background. I can kill the application through the Task Manager which in turn kills the query. This is a major problem and needs to be fixed before this application is useful.
I also am having this same issue. I am running SQL Developer 2.1.1.64.45 (JDK 1.6.0_11), connecting to Oracle 9.2.0.4.0 via TNSNAMES.
Seems to be similar to this thread: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=9524997
In which it appears to be a genuine bug.. Since I develop large queries in SQL Developer before sending them through a SAS program via PROC SQL, I have no other way to test them. It is frustrating, when testing the large queries, to have to do CTRL-ALT-DEL to delete the SQL Developer task and therefore losing any other query tab changes I have made before running/canceling the task. Grrrr.. :)

SQL Developer - Cannot see list of tables in my connection
Hi - when I downloaded and started to use the SQL developer tool, once I connected, I could see all of the tables/columns in my connection on the left side of the tool, and I had my query panel, results panel, and SQL history stacked on the right. Suddenly something has changed, and I cannot see the list of tables, etc. in my connection anymore, so I have to rely on memory and SQL history to remember the table and column names. It has to be "hidden" somehow, but view-connections does not help, and trying to click and drag windows doesn't uncover it either.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!Probably better to ask in the SQL Developer forum here: SQL Developer
I've been trying the version 2 beta though and it has quite a few bugs in. Table browsing is working fine for me, but all my functions and procedures have disappeared from the tree view. It does odd things with code formatting too.
I don't think it will be supplanting trusty old command line SQL Plus for me yet any time soon... -
SQL Developer cannot execute multiple queries in one connection
Hi,
Using : SQL Developer 1.2.29.98, Oracle Database 9i on Windows XP.
Currently I have TOAD and PL/SQL Developer to handle things related to Oracle Database.
I found this SQL Developer tools as an interesting tool which might replace PL/SQL Developer (I assume).
I opened two SQL Worksheets and tried to execute 2 queries (time consuming one) simultanously, suddenly it freezes (the window become grayed). Just like TOAD, we cannot smoothly execute multiple queries on single connection on SQL Developer
I can monitor the query process using TOAD (Session Browser) and found both queries are running while SQL Developer window become grayed and seems not functioning. After the queries have been finished, I mean both of them, the SQL Developer window become normal and "alive" again showing the expected results.
Well, however PL/SQL Developer could handle this. Executing multiple queries in single application is just its unbeatable features.
We can view the query result once its finished instead of until the others being processed, by just only switch the SQL Windows.
Is it true that SQL Developer doesn't support executing multiple queries?
Or is it a feature which we should request?
Or we have to activate this feature by doing some changes on configuration / preferences?
(Do we need to open two SQL Developer instances? what a memory consuming solution).
Regards,
BuntoroSQLDeveloper connections are single threaded and also rather single minded (in that you can't do much else while a long query is running.)
There is an existing feature request http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=42626:39:3685254426061901::NO::P39_ID:4202 for which you can vote.
The workaround is to have multiple connections. Not brilliant but it works.

I posted a similar thread in iPhoto but I think this is more of an iDVD issue. When in iPhoto I have created a slide show and I also created an album. With either version once I had it in the order I wanted I went to SHARE send to iDVD, before iDVD o
