Data Plans and Activation

I know that there is absolutely no way around this; I am merely using a forum run by Verizon (and supposedly read by Verizon staff) to issue a complaint where it should be made.
About six months ago, it was time to upgrade my phone.  My sister had an enV3, which she loved (more accurately: still loves), and which fully fit the three criteria I like in a phone: it texts, it calls, and it has a reasonable resolution w/r/t taking pictures (I'm not a huge picture taker, that's why I prefer my phone to have a reasonable camera installed, although it certainly isn't necessary).  Naturally, I wanted to get an enV3, but was told that I would have to pay $10 a month for a data plan.  I do not use my phone for internet access.  I do not use my phone for applications (except for backup assistant, which hardly qualifies as an application that should be paid for).  I have no reason for a data package.  And yet, what my sister was able to get with no added package, I would have had to get the monthly package.  Upgrading to an actual phone whose data capabilities would be truly useful, such as a Droid, would require a $25 a month package.
So, I chose the Samsung Intensity, because, frankly... I'm a college student; the $10 a month is better spent elsewhere.  As a college student, though, accidents happen.  I will preface the fact that I abstain from partying, alcohol, and drugs, so I managed to destroy my own phone with all of my mental capacities intact, so yes, it was my own idiocy that led to the destruction of my phone.
My family, however, has a reasonable collection of phones which we replaced with newer models as upgrades came around.  I'm currently blessed with the use of an LG that was made before 2005.  One can, hopefully, understand that I would prefer the use of a phone that accepts a Sim Card.  We had two LG phones from 2008 (sorry, I can't remember the model number at the exact moment... suffice to say that they were relatively high quality phones) which I would have gladly used, except for the fact that the particular design of the phone causes the hinge to break, and in both phones, the hinges were broken (I'm not the only one with this problem; two friends of mine who are much more careful with their phones than I had hinge problems with the same model... our two phones merely managed to break right after their warranty expired).  Actually, the manufacturing defect in the hinges was what caused me to have to upgrade phones... I would have gladly gone another two years with my original phone had Verizon decided to start manufacturing phones that don't break just because you open it on a regular basis to make calls or to text.
To make that long digression mean anything, our family also has an old LG Touch... a phone which Verizon quickly pulled off the shelves due to the fact that it received horrible reviews on.  I would love to activate this phone with my number, but upon attempting to do so, Verizon forces the addition of a $10 monthly data plan.  To a phone that we have had for about 2 years and which upon purchasing we were not required to have a data package for.
The Verizon data package plan is, I assume, a great idea... if you *want* to use it.  Forcing someone who wants a phone to pay money for features that they do not want to deal with is not ok.  Forcing someone to buy a data package when they bought the phone before data packages were required is not ok.  Come to think of it: building phones that break down a month after their warranty has expired is not indicative of a company that actually cares about its customers, either.  These data packages should remain optional.  I promise Verizon that, the moment I am independent and able to choose my own phone plan, I will immediately take my business elsewhere unless the data package requirement is rescinded.  It doesn't matter whether or not the other company requires the data package... my family has been loyal to this company for upwards of 8 years.  Any customer who has been with a company for that long deserves better than having to suddently upgrade to a phone similar in capabilities to a previous one and pay extra for a service which is not wanted.  Any person who has been with Verizon since before the data package requirement was instituted should not have to deal with this.  Realistically, any person who chooses Verizon Wireless, even after the requirement came in force, does not deserve treatment of this nature.
On that note, anyone working towards getting around the $10 a month plan?  I'd be willing to give a donation of $10 a month the the cause.

I completely agree!  I want a decent phone with camera and camcorder  to use for calling and texting without having to pay even the $9.99 data plan.  All of the providers want to force everyone into paying these extra fees.  It's not enough to pay for the services you use every month.  They want you to have to pay for the ones you don't as well.  I do not desire and WILL NOT pay for a data plan!

I have old unlimited data plan and insurance and just broke my Google Nexus 1.
If I send it in, will I get a refurbished Nexus 1?
I was told by a friend that they no longer supply those and if I break it, the insurance will give a crappier phone since they no longer have Nexus 1s.
Is this true? If my phone is no longer properly insured is there a way to cancel/reimbuse my insurance/verizon account since it's worthless if they don't give the same model to replace it?
Second question, if I buy the contract-free moto X at full retail, can I use that for my account without losing the unlimited data and then dropping the insurance?

How come so many people on this forum are having trouble doing that? They get a new phone, pay full price, call to activate, the rep accidentally removes unlimited data and then says, "Sorry, I can't restore that."  It's then up to the customer to find someone here to deal with problem and with no assurance it will be restored properly (one person lost his global unlimited data, only domestic unlimited was restored.)
I plan on keeping my unlimited data, purchasing phone full price; what is the best way to make sure it is done properly? Go to the VZW store? I does seem most people having problems did it online or by telephone.
    Thanks.

  • Activity dependant planning and Activity independent planning

    Hello gurus,
Can anyone please explain the difference between the Activity Dependant Planning and Activity Independant Planning with some examples
    thanks
    rihana
    Please, search Web

    Hi Rihana,
Activity indipendent planning : Activity-independent cost planning covers both primary and secondary costs, but does not refer to a specific activity type.  Eg : internal and external distribution
Activity-dependent planning : Activity-dependent planning of primary and secondary costs, on the other hand, enables you to plan both fixed and variable costs. You may require this functionality if your costing system uses flexible standard costing based on marginal costs. In this release you can carry out flexible standard costing based on full costs.
This means fixed costs are used to calculate the cost rates and are in effect converted to variable costs.

I have an old iPhone 4 that finally stopped working.  I have an unlimited data plan and want to keep it.  When I called customer service, I was told like in the past that if you purchase the new phone at full price, you can keep your old plan.  However, after some time on the phone i was told by the csr and supervisor that their system is not allowing them to complete the transaction without changing to a limited data plan.  I was told to try going to a store and buy the phone.  Same thing happened.  Has Verizon changed something and not told their employees?

Seems like people having this problem are those coming from a phone that doesn't have a nano SIM card...so when Verizon issues them one they end up changing their plan. No clue why this keeps happening but stay on top of them. As long as you initiated the request for your plan to be reinstated within the 14 day time frame they should put it back. Interested in seeing how this plays out. There is still one phone in my house that hasn't been upgraded (an iPhone 4). I'm hoping when we do upgrade it at full retail they won't mess with her unlimited data plan

  • What is considered Data in a Data Plan and how can I reduce data usage?

  • Can I buy a SmartPhone without getting the data plan, and just using the wifi?

I was looking into buying an iPhone or smartphone of some sort, but don't want the data plan. Can I get a smartphone or iPhone without the data plan and just normal service?

AT&T GoPhone plan does not require a data plan, you can activate a smart phone on a basic gophone plan.  However, if you don't turn data off at the carrier level, you will get a per use charge for data.
IT is not how the phone and service is expected to work, yet it can and does.  If it works on AT&TA, it will probably work on Verizon also.
I will repeat, this is not how it is designed to work.

  • $29.99 data plan and skype

I purchased a new blackberry bold 9650 at a verizonwireless shop in Tempe, AZ early this month with $59.99/month voice and text plan and $29.99 data plan. The salesman asked me to try VZ navigator and he told me it was free for 1 month trial. I use skype mobile on my phone, I have purchased a unlimited world plan from skype. I received a message yesterday, saying my bill is $305.64, I was shocked.
I'll continue to use skype on my phone. Can anybody tell me if Verizon will charge me for my skype messages or skype calls?
I already called Verizon to take off vz navigator from my phone features. They charged me not only $9.99 per month but also megabytes usage.
After 2 phone calls with them, they told me I would be charged $260.00 plus, too high for me.
Any suggestions on how to use this phone without costing me extra money will be highly appreciated.

Use this link to review the information I gave about Skype: http://community.vzw.com/t5/My-Verizon-Account-Wireless/29-99-month-data-plan-and-skype/td-p/216881. HTH!

  • Who has the Unlimited Data Plan and has Been Speed Capped when You went over 5Gig?

Just checking to see how many others have been speed capped to 200Kb on the unlimited data plan when they went over 5Gig in a billing cycle? (you can get a one time reprieve if you call them at 1-888-483-7200)
Did they ask you to change your plan to 10Gig and Update your Equipment and sign a new two year agreement?
Did you know that Sprint is offering unlimited Data on their 4G network and that Verizon is trying to lock down customers that are not on 2 year contracts? (Gives them time to catch up with the competition) Marcus in Fraud and Investigation told me (when I told him that Sprint was offering Unlimited Data)  "...That is a better option..."
I am now looking into other options along with allot of the rest of you.

I was instructed to call that Fraud Department number and was treated like I had broken some kind of law instead of going over the 5 Gig fine print limit on my unlimited grandfathered in account. They would not even consider giving me a one time do over for being a MiFi newbie. I am hearing class action suit rumblings out there!!

  • Follow up quesiton on data plan and face time quesiton

First I have to apologize for asking a non-apple question, especially after some comments I made, but I just want to make sure of something as I do not trust what I hear from ATT. If I downgrade from the unlimited plan, and when Netflix has streaming to the iphone I realize I'm using more than 2gb/month, I will be able to go back to the unlimited plan AS A CURRENT SUBSCRIBER, even after several months.
Second, regarding face time, does anyone know if the 3gs has the capability to view a video sent from an iphone 4 user? (I realize there is no software for it, but maybe this is in Apple's future??)

FaceTime is only iPhone4 to iPhone4, but im sure you can still send a video from an iPhone 4 to any other device including an iPhone 3GS. I am just speculating, so dont quote me on that. and once you give up your unlimited data plan you will NOT be able to go back.... EVER

  • End of contract questions (Data plan and upgrade eligibility)

    Hi All,
I found another thread also titled "End of contract questions" and it was very helpful but I want to make sure I'm not mistaken in any way.  Here's my scenario:
    2 Line Plan
    ME (primary): 2-year contract, unlimited Data (10/15/10 - 10/15/12)
    WIFE: 1-year contract, unlimited data (10/15/10 - 10/15/11)
I signed her up for a 1-year contract on the advice of the Verizon rep that was helping us.  It ended up netting an additional cost of $70-100 (I forget exactly) but it was worth it in my opinion because I knew that one of us would be able to get a new phone in 1 year as opposed to 2.
So here are the specific questions:
    1.  Verizon has done away with 1-year contracts.  This means that whenever my wife goes in to renew her contract (and get a new device), she will need to sign a 2 year contract, correct?  All further questions will be posed based on a "yes" answer to this one.
    2.  Assuming she has to sign a 2-year contract, will she still be able to retain her unlimited data plan?
    3.  Assuming she signs up for a 2-year contract, will she still be able to get "loyalty" pricing or whatever they're calling it now (used to be "new every 2")?  Is she even eligible for anything since she's not the primary on the line?
    4.  In the other thread titled "End of contract questions..." it was mentioned that "The loyalty discount expires 6 months after it becomes available -- so 2 months after your contract ends".  Is this correct?
    5.  Currently, if I go to MyVerizon and hover over the "?" next to my number and "Eligible for a discount" it says:  "You are eligible to upgrade with discounted pricing. If you upgrade on or after 6/15/12 you are eligible to receive an additional loyalty discount. "  I intend to wait for my line as it still has a year on the contract however when I do the same for my wife's line it says:  You are eligible to upgrade with discounted pricing."  Does it not mention the Loyalty discount because it's not applicable to a secondary line?  Or perhaps because it's implied since she's technically out of her contract period?
I'm trying to make heads or tails of this.  At the time, it sounded like a great idea (her on a 1-year, me/primary on a 2-year).  I'm hoping it will work out for us so that every year, one of us will be eligible for a new line.  I'm only concerned with the unlimited data aspect being that she's going to be going from a 1-year to a 2-year and also the actual loyalty/discount aspect.
Thanks in advance for anyone who helps!!

  • Verizon Data plan and "Delayed Data"

Had something very odd happen with the Verizon data usage on my Xoom over the course of the past two days.
I'm a fairly heavy user (3 Gbyte plan), and, as such, I do watch my usage using "My Verizon" - both the on-screen widget icon and via longing in to check.
Anyway, on Monday, the screen icon was showing a bit over 2 Gb had been used (cycle ending on the 12th), and later that day (7th) I got the alert text indicating that I'd reached 75%.
I took note of this, and decided to limit how I would use my Xoom so as to avoid going over.
But, Tuesday, I got the text alert that I'd reached 90%, and a check of the widget icon and logging in showed my usage at 2.77 Gb. I put my Xoom into Airplane Mode until I was at home, and my WiFi connected (I made sure that it was using WiFi). I didn't do a great deal with it that would have required much data transfer, even though in WiFi mode.
However, this morning, when I arrived at work (no WiFi, so in 4G) the icon indicated that I'd used 3.055 Gb - over 300 Mb more than when I'd shut-off my 4G/3G usage by going in to Airplane Mode outside of WiFi range. I was perplexed and concerned. I logged in, and sure enough, I was over-limit. I used it for a short while, then put it back into airplane mode (a bit concerned that something was amiss).
A short time later, I turned the 4G back on, and found the data usage had increased to 3.154 Gb – nearly an additional 100 Mbytes (without my even using my Xoom).
I put it back into Airplane Mode, and called Verizon to try to figure out what was happening.
I was eventually connected to someone in tech support, and after explaining what had been happening (turning 4G back on found my usage had gone up to 3.188 Gb), without my even asking if it were even possible, he quickly told me that it was not possible for data usage to be “stolen” (and I neither had tethering enabled, nor the Bluetooth on).
I continued to explain that I was not using my Xoom any more than normal (less, in fact); and he came to this answer for what might have been going on (drumroll, please…):
    Delayed Data Usage
He went on to explain that “they see this happen all the time”, and that there can be these “delays” in tallying-up data usage that can extend back 90 days.
I argued that over 400 Mb seemed a rather excessive amount to have been “backed-up”, and suddenly pushed through.
He agreed, but said that there was nothing that could be done.
I have insufficient understanding to argue the point any further, so it seems I will have to accept that I will be charged for an additional 1 Gb (okay, it’s only $10, but it the ****** principle of it!).
So, what I’d like to ask of you all is, has anyone else ever heard of this “Delayed Data” or had something similar happen to you?
I concerned that this large-scale unexplained data usage will continue, and I’ll end up getting hit for even more overages, and I’d like to be better armed to argue my case should that occur. Any explanations of this would be greatly appreciated.

I actually talked to the Verizon rep about the automatic updating of apps (I beleive that I have it turned off for all my apps).
Now, I do have the Eye-Fi app which loads photos from my camera to my Xoom, but the option to upload those photes to Eye-Fi's web site is set to only happen when connected to WiFi. I did take some photos ove rthe weekend, which loaded to my Xoom. but, even if the Eye-Fi apps had ignored the WiFi-only setting, and uploaded them over 4G, it would have amounted to less than 100 Mbytes of data.
Obviously, so apps simnply do their own thing and send and recieve data without user input, but I've had these apps for months, and this sort of thing has never happened before.
One possible app that I was concerned with that might be able to account for such large amounts of data if it were in some rogue behavior would be Netflix, as movies would obvioulsy be very large data files. But, I have no indication that it (or any other app) has simply downloaded such large amounts of data without my knowledge. If anyone knows of apps which might go rogue in such a way, I'd ertainly like to know about them.
Since I didn't include EVRYTHING in my first post, I'll add a bit more info to consider. I've had my Xoom since Feb 28, so I've already been through a number of billing cycles. My typical data usage has been between 2.5 and 2.8 Gb/mo over all those cysles. And, that amount has often included some heavier usage near the end of the cycle when it seemed clear that I was in no danger of going over.
This months cycle is the first since my Xoom was upgraded to LTE. But, that's the only change. I've been using my Xoom pretty much the same way I have been doing for months. That's why I'm so concerned that there is some more going on than just "delayed data". It's not just that I'm over limit, but that it happened very quickly (from ~2.5 to nearly 3.5 in two days) and is so much more than I'd normally use.
Unless LTE has some unoique quirk to it that it ends up using a whole lot more data than 3G, and more (much more) of that data ends up showing up in this delayed fashion [something that it might be fair to warn user of], then I am concern that ther is something more going on here.
