Continuous Data Protection for Arch Linux

Does anyone know of any Linux software that offers Continuous Data Protection (CDP)?
Obviously free software is ideal, but I'm not ruling out commercial stuff.
Infact so far the only thing I've found is a commercial product, called NetVault: Replicator, but it has an unknown pricetag.
(I've e-mailed them to ask, but since it's Saturday I'll probably be waiting at least 48 hours for a reply.)
Feature-wise, it's pretty simple: It want true CDP (ie: on every write, not simply regular snapshots), and I'd prefer something with a browser-accessible management area (but if it has a good API I can build my own if I have to).

Hmmm, well NetVault:Replicator doesn't actually offer proper CDP, and isn't going to in the immediate future.
So I'm still stuck without a solution and I can't think where to look next.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Oracle Data Protection

Can someone please point me in the right direction. Is there a difference between Tivoli Data Protection, Tivoli Storage Manager, and Oracle Data Protection. What I need to figure out what I need to get RMAN working with TDP. The environment is AIX R2 and Oracle 10g

Data Protection for Oracle does not provide a command line or GUI interface to manage backups and recovery of an Oracle database - instead, Data Protection acts as an interface between the RMAN API and the Tivoli Storage Manager API. In other words, it sends the data between these components, as shown in Figure 19-10. The RMAN command line or GUI interface is used to perform backup or database recovery.
When Data Protection for Oracle is configured, all administrative commands (such as backup and recovery) take place entirely under RMAN control, so the Oracle DBA does not need to know Tivoli Storage Manager commands. RMAN settings or commands are also used to remove expired backups from Tivoli Storage Manager storage. This is because expiration of Oracle backups are not governed by Tivoli Storage Manager policy domain settings of the client. The Oracle objects are always stored in a backup copy group using a unique name, which eliminates the retention and versioning values in your backup copy group, as the Oracle objects are always considered as active from the Tivoli Storage Manager perspective.
Data Protection for Oracle cannot be used to back up or restore non-database data, such as history files or other system configuration files. You should use the Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive client to back up these files.

Disable data protection

I really need to disable data protection for my ipad, it is enabled and I cant change the button so it makes it that my ipad doesnt erase after 8 failed attempts. Also it doesnt let me disable my password. Please answer quick as I have kids who will probably enter password wrong at least 8 times and delete ipad I really need to disable. Thankyou

If YOU know the passcode then it should let you turn it off.
You can remove the passcode on the iPad by tapping on Settings->Passcode->Turn Passcode Off. You will need to know the passcode to change this setting.
If you have forgotten the passcode then you will have to erase & restore. Follow the directions here:
Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
That being said, by leaving your iPad with no passcode, your kids could conceivably go into settings & add one of their own if you remove it.

Error installing DPM Agent in Update Rollup 5 for System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager

I have updated my main DPM server to Update Rollup 5 for System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager and all went well.
All Protected servers updated and rebooted and continued protection - EXCEPT one;
Physical Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter.
Tried Manual install - no luck
Removed Protection Agent / rebooted / re-installed - no luck
Installed all updates / re-install - no luck
this seems to be the only indicated problem in MSDPMAgentInstall.LOG.....

DPM 2012 R2: Remove Recovery Points

AIR for iOS Data Protection question again

We are looking into Protecting Data Using On-Disk Encryption for our AIR for iOS iPad apps. An article on the adobe site (Protecting content on an iOS device with DPS | Adobe Developer Connection) mentioned this can be achieved by generating Data Protection enabled AppID/provisioning profile to pacakage in the app.
After we packaged and published the app using the appropriately configured provisioning profile (Complete protection), we run an analysis on the iPad files. It's reporting that the files are using an encryption class, but the wrong one.
We run into two kinds of scenarios -
1. For App ID that "complete" data protection service is specified, the class utilized should be NSFileProtectionComplete. Instead, the class being utilized in the files is NSFileProtectionCompleteUntilUserAuthentication
2. for App ID without any data protection service selected, the files saved in the app documentDirectory is utilizing "NSFileProtectionCompleteUntilUserAuthentication".
We cannot find why is it using the wrong class when specified with another class, and why are other apps utilizing the class when they weren't designed to any data protection? Could something in Adobe AIR be overriding it or setting a default to use "NSFileProtectionCompleteUnitlUserAuthentication"?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated. We cannot find much information on this issue but data encryption has become more and more critical now. Thank you very much.

VssNullProver stopped after installing Update Rollup 3 for System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 R2

I recently installed Update Rollup 3 for System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 R2.
As part of the update I updated all DPM Agents, including the ones on our Hyper-V Servers (which are part of a cluster). I also rebooted every DPM Protected Servers. After reboot all Hyper-V Servers raise a warning that the VssNullProvider service has stopped.
Backup seems to work properly. I can start the VssNullProvider service manually. But after the next backup the service it is stopped again. Exactly the same issue occurs on our test Hyper-V Cluster. All our Hyper-V Servers run Windows Server 2012 R2 and
we use System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2.
Something is not ok with Update Rollup 3. Any suggestions?

Data encryption for short term protection?

As for the present DPM release 2012 R2 UR1, there is no support for encryption of data to DPM disk. Do anyone know if/when this is planned in future releases??

1) Use DPM as virtual machine with vhd data and encrypt Volume with vhd DPM data
2) Use Firestreamer

Fixpak 2 for DB2 V9 - SAP Certification date ??

Can someone from SAP comment on why there seems be a delay in certiying Fixpak 2 for DB2 V9. I know that GA from IBM for Fixpak 2 was sometime in Feb2007 and SAP still hasn't certified Fixpak2. I thought SAP and DB2 were committed to certify these quicker from what I heard in one of conferences.

We are just migrating our BW env from V8 to V9 and currently testing it FP1, but I know that there is one know issue with "db2 list tablespace command" hanging in DB2 V9 on Fixpak1 which I believe has been fixed with FP2. I know we can use SNAPSHOT table functions inplace of list tablespace in our monitoring scripts to get around that issue, but I was curious as why it was taking long for SAP to certify it. Thanks for the answer.

To obtain a good load performance for ODS objects, we recommend that you note the following:
1. Activating data in the ODS object
In the Implementation Guide in the BW Customizing, you can implement different settings under Business Information Warehouse -> General BW settings -> Settings for the ODS object that will improve performance when you activate data in the ODS object.
1. Creating SIDs
The creation of SIDs is time-consuming and may be avoided in the following cases:
a) You should not set the indicator for BEx Reporting if you are only using the ODS object as a data store.Otherwise, SIDs are created for all new characteristic values by setting this indicator.
b) If you are using line items (for example, document number, time stamp and so on) as characteristics in the ODS object, you should mark these as 'Attribute only' in the characteristics maintenance.
SIDs are created at the same time if parallel activation is activated (see above).They are then created using the same number of parallel processes as those set for the activation. However:if you specify a server group or a special server in the Customizing, these specifications only apply to activation and not the creation of SIDs.The creation of SIDs runs on the application server on which the batch job is also running.
1. DB partitioning on the table for active data (technical name:
The process of deleting data from the ODS object may be accelerated by partitioning on the database level.Select the characteristic after which you want deletion to occur as a partitioning criterion.For more details on partitioning database tables, see the database documentation (DBMS CD).Partitioning is supported with the following databases:Oracle, DB2/390, Informix.
1. Indexing
Selection criteria should be used for queries on ODS objects.The existing primary index is used if the key fields are specified.As a result, the characteristic that is accessed more frequently should be left justified.If the key fields are only partially specified in the selection criteria (recognizable in the SQL trace), the query runtime may be optimized by creating additional indexes.You can create these secondary indexes in the ODS object maintenance.
1. Loading unique data records
If you only load unique data records (that is, data records with a one-time key combination) into the ODS object, the load performance will improve if you set the 'Unique data record' indicator in the ODS object maintenance.

Open data slice for data entry and close afterwards

Dear all,
I have created one data slice for a characteristic combination country xy in order to prevent the data entry within the data entry query for the user. But for some reason I have to run a planning function in order to summarize some values and write a total value in the characteristic e.g. country xy.
The planning function brings out an error message because this can not be executed due to the fact that this combination is protected.
Is there a way to open the data slice before the planning function is writing the data in the cube? I have tried to to this in the Data slice exit, but I do not have an idea how to open the DS, save the data and close the DS again.
We are running NW BI 7.0. Any ideas would be great.

I did something like this by creating an FM and calling that FM from a FOX function. I think you will have to use three commands to execute three functions one after the other (and not combine them in one planning sequence) - first one will switch off the data slice, next will be your planning function containing the logic, and the last will switch it back on.
The FM would be something like below:

May be i should manually create "SAPADM.#LOBU"?
