Data Replication between Oracle 9i and 10g

Hello,
I have a question regarding possible Replication Models between Oracle 9i and 10g. Does anybody know a possible way to syncronize the schema data between a 9i and 10g database in realtime?
If yes can you please post perhaps a link with a kind of how to?
Many thanks to all,
Bob...

You can read this metalink note 370850.1 - there are bit more ways of replication discussed.
Yes, platforms can be different, but recomendation is to use the same platform for both databases.

  • Replication between Oracle Server and MS SQL Server

    Hello,
Does anybody know of a well known or reliable software that can do data replication between Oracle Server and Microsoft SQL server.
I suppose I can write my own version using Heterogenous Services in Oracle but I would like to know if such an automated replication between Oracle and SQL is available commercially.
    Thank you.

    Sorry, Aman,
I couldn't find any info about replication to MS SQL. Is it possible at all? Could you provide link where we can read about this? It could be very interesting.Sorry Viacheslav, even I couldn't find anything for the same. I am not sure that it can be done or not, I haven't heard anyone in my contact doing so. The only place where I have seen Streams being used around me is within Oracle db only. May be someone else can help if he/she has done it.

    Hi All,
How can we do the data migration between Oracle Applications and SAP R/3 system. What are all the possible ways to move bulk data from Oracle Apps to SAP r/3 system.
Provide any 3rd party tools which supports data migration and also pls rpovide the SAP's own data migration tools with supports the above feature.
    Awaiting for best possible solution.
    Thanks in advance.

the 3rd party tool is ETL , you can use ETL tool and the prepare the load files then you can use LSMW method to upload the data to SAP.

  • Data exchange between Oracle DB and JD Edwards

    Hi all,
We have an Oracle 10g EE database which we maintain. The financial system is using JD Edwards. We need to provide them some daily information(payments) Also they need to send us some data( payment reconciliation). My questions are:
    1. What kind of interaction is posible between Oracle db and JD Edwards?
    2. What database does JD Edwards internally use? Is in an Oracle db?
    3. Is there an ODBC driver available for interaction?
    4. Does JD Edwards handle credit card payments?
Please, can you give me an answer quick, we need it by the end of today for a proposal..
Excuse my lack of knoledge, but we never worked with JD Edwards before...
    Thank you

#2 All the JD Edwards installations I have ever come across were on AS400 (iSeries I believe is the new name) …their niche on the application software market was the fact that they were running so well integrated with that particular platform. AS400 comes bundled with [one of the many flavors of] DB2 … that is, no extra license required. Oracle has never had an AS400 port … so I doubt you’ll find Oracle underneath your JD Edwards installation.
#1 “some daily payment information” suggests batch type integration and relatively small in scope … all systems/applications have some sort of data loader and there are always ways to get data out into files … so a custom, file-based little integration mechanism could be all that you need. I did work once in such a little project … the JD Edwards specialists in the company did their part of loading and loading on their side … we did the same on the Oracle side … we agreed on file formats, content, schedules, a common/secure drop zone in the network etc. and that was pretty much it. The point is, there must be some JD Edwards people in your company you should get involved in the discussion/proposal.
#3 An ODBC driver for DB2 on AS400 very likely exists … keep in mind though that this means the integration will be at a low level (table level) … many applications expose integration points at the API level (application level). Again, you have to get the JD Edwards people on board.
My last points … if you have Oracle in house then call your Oracle representative … Oracle owns JD Edwards … you may get better answers or re-directs there. Also look if your company has any middleware software already … contact the vendor and see what they have to say

  • Advanced Replication between Oracle XE and 64-bit Oracle Enterprise

    hi all,
Currently i have advanced replication working between Oracle-XE and our 32-bit based Oracle 10gR2 Enterprise Server. Will advanced replication work if we moved our Enterprise 10gR2 instance from a 32-bit to a 64-bit?
May be some of you might already be doing this, i just want a confirmation before i give the go ahead.

  • Replication between Oracle 7 and Oracle 10g. Is it possible?

    Hello,
I have two DBs which exist on two different versions of Oracle (7.3.3 and 10g). Those DBs have different structures of tables, data from which can be casted from one structure to other. Can I organise bi-directional replication between those DBs. To make the point clear, can I replicate data from Oracle 7.3.3 to 10g and vice versa.
Duration of synchronization should be less than 1 minute.
I would be very pleased if somebody gives my a reference on online oracle documentation because I can't find answer in it to my questions.
If the possability of application of replication is questionable, can you give an advice which technology I have to apply in my situation. For instance, perhaps, it is convenient to use triggers.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
ObjectMMRS (http://www.object.com.br/wiki) can make what you need, replicate data between different Oracle database versions and between Oracle and other database brands too.
Documentation still in Portuguese only (Translation in progress) but I can help you install and try, maybe one or two days of work and you will be able to replicate.
Contact me at [email protected] if you want to try the ObjectMMRS (low cost replication software suite), no technical support fees for trial, and 30 days license expiration.

  • Data Guard with Oracle 9i and 10g -- have you done it?

We have an ERP system (JDEdwards, db size approx 600 GB) and we'd like to copy the data in this system to a database on another computer. We'd use the remote database for reporting, so we need it to be available. We are looking at using Data Guard running in Logical Standby mode.
The ERP database is Oracle 9i, and we are considering having the Logical Standby database be 10g. Have you done this and if so, what was your experience?
Here's why we want to do this. There are many tables in the ERP database that contain descending indexes. We can't change this, and it is not supported with Data Guard under Oracle 9.2. Tables with descending indexes do not copy to the logical standby database.
We were told that this is corrected in a newer release of Oracle, and we were wondering if a 10g database would properly copy tables with descending indexes.
Thanks in advance for any experiences you can share.
    Best Regards,
    Mike

What you are trying to do might not be possible. Because when you create logical standby you have to create a physical standby first and convert it. Primary and standby have to be same version.
In furture it might be possible because 10G will support rolling upgrade of logical standby.
However even it's possible you have to go through a lot of pain to setup and maintain it because Oracle don't support the setup.
What you could try are Stream and Replication, I will say Stream is very interesting one. Because Oracle say : "Oracle Streams and Oracle Data Guard (including Data Guard SQL Apply) are independent features based on some common underlying infrastructure and technology. "

If the ODI process is being started multiple times by FDM you need to update the iisproxy ini file with the following 2 lines:
    HungServerRecoverSecs=3600
    WLIOTimeoutSecs=3600
You may have multiple copies of the ini file on the server so do a search and update them all.

  • Diff between Oracle 9i and 10g with date format MON in FRENCH language

    Hi,
With a session in FRENCH language, when i do:
    SQL> select to_char(sysdate,'dd-mon-yyyy') from dual;
    The result in 10g is:
    TO_CHAR(SYSDA
    27-juil.-2005
    The result in 9i is:
    TO_CHAR(SYS
    28-jul-2005
Where is the problem and how can i have the same result in 10g than in 9i ?
    Thank you for your help.

This behaviour is documented in the Oracle Database 10g Globalization Guide; it also includes the steps on how to revert back to the Oracle 9i locale definitions.
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/server.101/b10749/applocaledata.htm#sthref1769
Please note that 10g is using the correct convention, the Oracle9i locale definition files will be desupported in a future release.
