Data Roaming in the iPhone

Hi
I usually use the Data Roaming option (inside my country) turned off... Do I need to use it turned on inside my country?
If i traver to another country (so, another carrier is selected) do I need to turn it on or off?
When I activate it, what "app's" are disable in my iPhone?
Thanks for your help
Martin

Ah, when you said "roaming" that implies it is provisioned by a US carrier. Here are the details: http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
But what I said is still true. Any unlocked iPhone (5 and later) will work anywhere in the world on GSM EDGE and HSPA+. However, LTE (4G) support uses different bands and different coding around the world, so the phone may not support LTE's very high speeds. This should not be a problem as HSPA+ in Europe is typically good for 20 Mbps.

Do I need to turn off Voice And Data Roaming on my iPhone 5 if I am NOT traveling  and I am in the USA?
Also can it stay on if I am traveling just through the USA and not getting near any Borders of the Country?

  • Is there anyone else having a major probblem with excessive data usage with the iPhone 5??

My wife and I are on a shared 4GB data plan, she has the Galaxy Note 2 and I have the iPhone 5, she's on her phone way more than I am, but I am using waaay more data than she is, double to be exact. She sends pictures all the time and all of that, I do not, but yet I am still using more data. I have cut off everything from using my cellular data except, facebook, twitter, instagram, and Onavo Count, I have deleted iClouds from my phone, my location is turned off, but yet I am still using a lot of data.. I was wondering, is this issue because of Verizon, or is it because of the iPhone 5? My boss has a iPhone 5 through AT&T and she's not using as much data as I am either and I am pretty sure she's on her phone more than I am as well and do not have half of everything I got not using cellular data cut off.. I been with Verizon since Feb. 2012 and I have always had this problem with data while my wife is using barely 1G a month, I am using almost 2G every month. I am not complaining, I just want to know if anyone else is experiencing the same thing and if so what kind of solutions have you found? Thanks in advance! I hope I hear from someone... preferably a Verizon representative.

Thank you for your response. I do not stream music or videos, I do not
FaceTime, my apps are not automatically updating when using wifi, I
manually update them so they do not use cellular date either. Yes I have
been able to view my data sessions, and honestly its not adding up. This
morning it said my phone used over 90,000 kilobytes and I do not know how.
I am positive my wife uses her phone more than I do but yet I am using more
data.. I've been to the Verizon store and they have not be able to help me
at all, I really like the coverage I get from Verizon but my confusion on
why my phone is using so much data may cause me to switch providers and I
really do not want to, I just really want to get to the bottom of this
situation. I can't even enjoy my phone because I have cut mainly everything
off. Location is cut off, I've deleted iTunes off my phone, I got mainly
all my applications to only be accessed through wife for when I get home. I
cut off my cellular data as soon as I get home because I am under wife when
I am home. My wife do not have to do anything of what I've just mentioned
but yet I am still using more data than she. Is my phone defected,
something has to be wrong here. Please I will really appreciate it if you
or anyone can help me figure what is going on. Please, thank you!

  • What sort of Wireless Data Security does the iPhone have/use?

During transmission of data, is it encrypted? I'm aware that the BlackBerry Enterprise version uses AES to secure data during transmission. Does the iPhone use this as well, or another standard? If so, is this feature included on all iPhone models/classes? I'm not sure if the iPhone for business is tangibly different than the iPhone sold to non-business individuals/families - or if the AT&T phone plan is the only thing which differs.
Thanks to anyone who addresses my questions regarding security.
    Jimixsix

Keep in mind that any phone can be set up to get email without any kind of data security. The Blackberry can bet set up to do POP, SMTP, etc. over an un-encrypted link. In these cases there is no AES used.
The BBs encryption is only between the handset and BES or BIS server. Although the BB does encrypt data on the phone, this is only as effective as the PIN - if the phone is unlocked all data is available.
The iPhone defaults to using SSL for encryption of data on the wire, but this can be turned off. The phone does NOT encrypt the data stored on it, but incorrect PIN attempts can wipe the phone if configured that way.
Keep in mind that many of the Benefits of a Blackberry require the BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) at your organization. Without one, you have no Push email. You have to resort to Blackberry Internet Server (BIS) where you store your credentials on the RIM server and it screen scrapes Outlook Web Access or pulls from POP accounts. You may get AES encryption between handset and server, but you have given up your account credentials to who knows what.

  • Passing the data limit on the iphone 4 warning?

is there an app that alerts you when you are close to passing your monthly data limit?

    Quoted from AT&T:
AT&T outlines several different ways to achieve this:
    * Customer Text Notifications On Data Usage. When customers begin to approach their monthly usage limit, AT&T will send three text notifications – after they reach 65 percent, 90 percent and 100 percent of the threshold. Customers will also be sent emails if AT&T has their email address.
    * Data Usage Monitoring. Additionally, customers with iPhones and other select devices can use the free AT&T myWireless application to check data usage. The application is available for download in several smartphone app stores. Also, AT&T customers can call *DATA# from their wireless phone to check their data usage for the current billing period. They receive a free text message with their usage information. Customers can also go online to www.att.com/wireless to see all of their usage information, past and present.
    * Data Calculator. The easy-to-use online data calculator enables customers to estimate their mobile data usage and get a better sense for which data plan is right for them. It’s located at www.att.com/datacalculator.

  • Do you have to get a data plan on the iPhone 4

I want to buy an iPhone 4 but i dont want to pay $50.00 a month for a bill. If I buy the iPhone 4 on Virgin Mobile with the super tab do you have to get a data plan or can you get a normal plan for talk and text???

    Very likely, yes.
    Call Virgin and ask.

  • How do I keep track of data usage on the iPhone 5C?

I just purchased an iPhone 5C (my first smartphone), and I'm confused as to what exactly the GB information in the "Usage" menu under Settings-->General-->Usage means. Are those gigs that are listed how much I have used and available for storage ONLY, or does it also include LTE data usage? I just synced my phone with my iTunes library on my computer, and my "GB used" jumped from 1.0 to 6.3 GB. It seems to be under the heading "storage" and says I still have 7.0 GB available, so I'm inclined to think that it is only counting what I am actually storing on my phone, but if that is the case, then where can I check how much of my data for the month I have used? I am on a family plan, so I want to make sure I'm not accidentally driving our usage up. My Wifi connection at home is currently out, so I know I was using some LTE this morning, but I don't think it was very much. I figured out how to turn off LTE and 3G so I'm not accidentally using data now, but in any case, does anybody know where I can find my data usage info on my phone?
    Thanks!

Under the Collection button you can add as many collections as you want.
I created one called "Reading".  I then move the book(s) I am reading into that collection so I can just go to there to find my current books.
I also created one called "Complete" so I can remember which ones I can uncheck from iTunes.

  • Erase data feature of the iphone - failed 10 attempts....

I like this feature and it gives me some level of security that I didn't have before.
However, I would prefer that it asked me for my passcode when I try to turn it off.
If my phone is compromised whilst the lock is not in effect the first thing a thief has to do is simply switch off the erase data feature. So I'm required to enter my passcode to turn the passcode off so I'd rather I also be required to enter my passcode when I try to switch off the erase data feature.

That could be something you suggest to Apple and that is done on the feedback page. Here is the link if you like.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Not a bad suggestion in my book.

  • "Other" data present on the iPhone

    Hi there,
I just wanted to know how to clear some of the "Other" data on my iPhone 5c.
I had looked for an answer to this question on the discussions before and some of the answers had said to restore my phone to factory settings and then sync it again and it should be clear. I just did that but I still have 3+ GB of "other" data and I just wanted to know how to get rid of it.
    Thanks,

  • WHY THE IPHONE GETTING HOT WHEN USING 3G PLUS WITH DATa?, WHY THE IPHONE GETTING HOT WHEN USING 3G PLUS WITH DATA?

why my iphone 4s getting hot when using 3g plus with data?
then my phone left side speaker didnt work when i list songs?

It is normal for the phone to get hot when your using data such as YouTube videos, streaming music etc.. And as for the left speaker not working, the left speaker is a microphone, the right one is for sound. Don't worry, everything your iPhone is doing is normal.

  • What sort of monthly data usage does the iphone use up?

    Hi,
Hope this is the right place to ask this. I'm getting an iphone 4 in a couple of weeks, and have been looking at the priceplans available.
They all seem to only give 500mb data allowance, what shocked me was to read this on vodafone's site :
*500MB a month will let you read and reply to approximately 100 emails, view 92 BBC news stories, and browse around 44 mobile web pages - every day. And 1000MB will let you read and reply to approximately 200 emails, view 184 BBC news stories, and browse around 88 mobile web pages.*
    whereas T-mobile say :
*With 500MB of data you could do one of the following (roughly):*
** Send 500,000 emails without attachments*
** Send 1000 emails with photo attachments*
** 5000 visits to simple sites like Twitter or blogs*
** 1500 visits to rich content sites like bbc.co.uk, guardian.co.uk and so on*
** Download 50 low quality or 12 high quality tunes*
    ** Watch 60 views of 4.5 minute YouTube™ videos*
Obviously therefore i feel that vodafone have massively screwed up on their website there, and am guessing T-mobile have got the more accurate description of what 500mb data allowance can give you.
Just wanted to ask you iphone-ers whether you find yourselves going over 500mb of data allowance each month? I wouldnt be a heavy user of downloading things, but i would like to use all the aps and browse the web now and then like every other iphone user out there, so just want to gauge whether to go for a contract with a larger allowance, and less minutes, or whether 500mb per month is a perfectly reasonable amount!
    Thanks in advance

Your question although entirely reasonable, can be paraphrased as 'how long is a piece of string?'
I'm fine and I have an unlimited usage account (one of the old ones that they do not have any more).
I still don;t use more than 500mb but then again I have access to Openzone and The Cloud wifi which covers much of London, and airports. That usage isn't metered.
I have no idea if it is enough for you as we are completely different.

  • HELP! ...I went to the apple store to get my iPhone replaced. When I left, happy & all, I realized I did not erase the data off of the iPhone I got replaced!! Does the apple store reset those iPhones so that information isn't stolen or tampered with?

I didn't know you were supposed to delete your information when you might get your iPhone replaced...

First, please understand we are not Apple employees on this forum, and we are not authorized to speak for Apple.
Having said that, here are two thoughts:
    1.  Did you sign a form when you left your old iPhone with Apple?  You might consider reading that form.  It may help.
    2.  You might consider telephoning the Apple Store and ask them about resetting your old iPhone.

  • HT1766 I lost my data by resting the iphone 4 itself, logged in by my previous ID but cant find my backup!?

    Looking for support!

    Connect phone to computer.
    Select Restore.
Tell iTunes which of the available backup files to use, let iTunes restore it.
Also, try reading the User's Guide as it answers questions like this.
