Data sources 3.x in SAP NW BW 7.4

Hello,
I would like to ask, if old objects (like datasources 3.x, transfer rules, infosources, update rules) are still supported in SAP NetWeaver BW version 7.4?
Does anybody have an experience with this? Because there are mostly new and enhanced things on web pages but not things whichs are not supported anymore in version 7.4.
Thanks a lot.
Karel

HI Karel,
3.x data flows are still supported in BW 74 as per my knowledge. Although SAP recommends to migrate  it. You can see step by step guide for flow migration here.
Cheers

  • Do Plugable Data Source Definitions for RDI (SAP) Files exist ?

    Hallo,
are there any definition files for SAP RDI files (Raw Data Interface) available so that this files can be used as data source in a report? Has anyone ever done this in a project?
    Regards, Peter

    Hi Anon,
May be it is becasue of SP problem.
You should have SP for SAP_APPL-----SAPKH60303     Logistics and Accounting
We have this datasource in our system with this SP.
    Hope this helps.

  • InfoProviders versus Queries Data Source for BO SAP Integration

    Hi All,
I would like to know if there is any discussion or suggestion on commonly used choice of data source for BO with SAP Integration. I do know there is a best practices suggestion from Ingo on Webi and the choice is to use queries so that we could leverage the functionalities of calculated key figures, exit variables and etc. But as I see from another website it claims that this will slow down the access of data using queries.
    Thanks
    David

    Hi Ingo,
Is there any slide presentations from anyone that has that kind of information? We are in the midst of implementation right now and are selecting the method. I need to come out with pros and cons of the choices that we have in order for us to select the best one even though from my gut feeling I would still prefer the Queries.
Especially it will also make use of aggregates and also data flow size might be fewer due to variable that exists. Compared to using MultiProvider, it might transfer the whole data lot and if we were to create parameter there in Crystal or something else it will filter data only from there onwards.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
    Thanks

  • SAP Data Source for OmniPortlet available for download

    What are we Announcing ?
The beta release of SAP Data Source for OmniPortlet.
SAP data source for OmniPortlet makes it easier than ever before to integrate SAP R/3 systems with Oracle Application Server(OracleAS) Portal. With the new SAP data source, one can easily build SAP portlets including search for BAPI Function Modules and Business Objects, configuration of appropriate input and output parameters, filteration criteria, desired views and layouts, portlet personalization, and even portlet-to-portlet communication using parameters and events.
    How can I use it?
SAP Data Source is a plugin data source for OmniPortlet. You can connect to any SAP R/3 server and declaratively build SAP portlets with ease. In addition to all the basic features of OmniPortlet, SAP data source leverages OracleAS Portal External Application for secure access to the SAP R/3 instance. SAP data source comes as a zip file, with very simple steps to configure. • Change data source

    Hi,
    In portal EP6.0
In System Administrator->System Configuration->UM Configuration  here in Data Source Tab already data source is assigned to "Read-only microsoft ADS ( Deep Hierarchy ) + Data base". I changed this data source to "Read-only SAP System + Data base" and saved.
But it is giving warninig message saying 'you are not allowed to select dataSourceConfiguration_R/3.xml as Active configuration file. This will lead to inconsistancy'.
How can we change data source?
    Thanks in Adv.
    Ganesh

    Hi Ganesh,
You want to change the configuration to this "Read-only SAP System + Data base" rite ?
Dont change from here -System Administrator->System Configuration->UM Configuration in Data Source Tab
Start the Config Tool by executing j2eeconfigtoolconfigtool.bat.
    Switch to Edit mode.
In the tree, navigate to Global server configuration ® services ® com.sap.security.core.ume.service
Here change the value of the property ume.persistence.data_source_configuration to the one you want to apply(for example dataSourceConfiguration_R/3.xml)
Click on "Apply Custom" Save the changes.
    Restart the cluster.
    This should work.
Let me know if you need any other help.
    Thanks,
    Samta

  • Crystal Report 2011- SAP Data Sources: CL - no items found

    Background:
SAP ECC 6.0 was purchased three years ago with DSD package. Only FI and SD modules are in use. Accounts download data filesfrom SAP to produce spreadsheet reports. Few user trust these numbers. We are setup as "SAP in the Cloud" model- Listening to constant user complaints, it seems SAP is broken. Interim solution: Crystal Report for everyone.
Encouraged by Ingo Hilgefort papers and Crystal Report Forum:
We decided to deploy Crystal Report 2011 and Business Object XI 3.1 with SP4 for our small user community. These software are installed on local XP laptop and Business Object XI 3.1 installed in the SAP server as well.
    Problem Description:
The desktop user cannot see SAP infosets or tables contents. When connect to the data sources. After user login, she can navigate to expand the data source CL.- displays "no items found ". I can reproduce this error. Using the Crystal Report wizard and selecting various data sources such as: SAP Table, Cluster and Functions: CL, DD and FN category only DD and FN display items.
Current Environment: SAP in the Cloud.
SAP Server::ECC 6.0 EhP3 dual stack. Database MSSQL, OS 2008 Server, Business Object Intergration Kit 3.1, Remote Acces VPN.
Desktop Environment: Crystal Report 2011: SP1, Business Object Xi 3.1, XP SP3
Surprise: Clicking on either DD and FN tab inside the connector window in Crystal- it expands and displays tables and content reference but not CL.
Questions: Do we have to move to EhP5 for the CRX 2011 to work ? What is wrong: ? Any help will be appreciated?
This question is for Ingo H. How to convince SAP hosting company otherwise to solve our problem ? Is is desktop problem or Host side configuration ?

    Ahmad
K900687 is Open SQL Connectivity transport and required for direct SAP tables connectivity, so you need it, but I am not sure if the warning message relevant to your problem. Sometimes warning is just a warning.
You can see other objects in DD, but not in CL, it means the connection works. You probably do not have required authorisations to see objects.
I would suggest to review the Authorisation section of SAP Integration Kit Installation Guide here:
You may also check what is the differences between DD and CL in terma of authorizations.
If you think CR 2011 is broken, then test CR 2008. Is still available for free 30-days trial download here:
, but you would need to add SAP Integration Kit to it.

  • Error (WIS 10901) while creating a webi report against SAP data source

    Hi,
While creating a webi report against a universe created using Infocube/Bex query (basically SAP data source) get a error message -
A database error occured. The database error text is: A runtime exception has occured. (License key check failed. Check that you are licensed to access SAP data sources). (WIS 10901).
Any clues whether this is a license issue or something else?
    Thanks,

I am having the same problem.  I checked and double checked everything, including deleting and recreating the Universe and the Connection.  No improvement.  On a whim, I deleted the hierarchy from the query on which the Universe was based, and recreated the Universe on the query without the hierarchy.  The problem went away.
Now, the question is, why do I get the WIS 10901 error when a hierarchy is present in the query/Universe?

  • Using SAP BI front-end on external data sources

We are currently reviewing the BI technical strategy at our organisation and SAP BI is in the running where we have a need to cover more data sources than just R/3.
Because of the investment made in building other reporting databases, in the short to medium term we are considering using SAP BI as the front-end.
I have built a Virtual InfoProvider using DTP on a SQL Server database, and initial findings are interesting.
I would also like to consider other methods of using SAP BI as a front-end, and this post is a plea for further options.
Some of the existing reports that we need to replace would be based on views in the database, whereas others are driven by result sets from stored procedures.
I am curious about where all the effort is made, for example, will all the filtering be applied at source or back in BW?
Will a user-entry variable allow a lookup to the source?
We have recently upgraded to NW2004s, although we have not implemented the Java Stack .... yet.  We intend to complete the implementation by May 2008.
I would welcome any suggestions you might have, or if you are able to point me to further sources of information.
    Ian.

The Web Analyzer within BI 7.0 JAVA run time can go against XMLA datasources (eg: MS Analysis Services) configured within EP system.
Visual Composer available within Ep 7 can go against any JDBC sources (Web Analyzer will have this functionality in the future.).

  • UME using SAP R/3 as Data Source

    Hi,
We are trying to set User authentication to SAP R/3 system, not load balanced system, on the User Management Configuration values: Client=501, Userid=sapjsf, Password=pwd, sys id=RS1, Group and Message server= blank, Application server= server.company.com, Sys. number=00, Max pool=10, Max wait=300000.
When testing connection, I get this message:
    (System ID): com.sap.mw.jco.JCO$Exception: (101) RFC_ERROR_PROGRAM: 'mshost' missing
(System ID & System Number): OK
Is this an error? since our SAP R/3 is not a load balanced system.
Did we miss any item for the setup, in dataSourceConfiguration_r3.xml? The SAPJSF "communication user" got the right sap role and authorizations.

  • SAP R/3 as data source for Essbase

    Hi everyone,
We need to extract data from a SAP R/3 data source (Is SAP R/3 the same as SAP BW?).. Can we directly connect to it then load data to Essbase?
I've read that we need Hyperion System 9 BI+ Analytic Integration Connector for SAP BW to get data from SAP BW. Is it easy to implement?
Hope someone could help me. Thanks in advance.
    Sam

    Hi everyone,
I've read that Essbase can connect directly to SAP R/3 through the SAP Plug-in in the Administration Services. We just need to configure the connection to it properly.
Here's my question, since we are suppose to enable the SAP plug-in DURING the "custom" installation of Admin Services, how do we then enable it since our application is already in use? Installation & configuration of admin services has long been done. Is there a way to go back to enable the SAP plug-in so we can connect to SAP R/3? If not, are there other ways to do it?
Hope somebody could help me. Thanks a lot.

  • How to select from multiple output tables in the SAP Data Source

    Hi,
We're using the SAP Data Source to display SAP data in our portal from the Bapi: BAPI_INFORECORD_GETLIST. When defining the Bapi Meta Data we can select data from one of the two output tables (INFORECORD_GENERAL and INFORECORD_PURCHORG). But we want to select data from both tables (some columns we want to show are in INFORECORD_GENERAL and some are in INFORECORD_PURCHORG) .
How can we do this ?
    With regards,
    Ramon van der Weiden

You can query multiple TimesTen databases, but your original question was about joining tables from two databases, which is not supported.
Using Cache Connect to Oracle to query an Oracle database is not distributed. It's still one single Oracle database you are querying. You cannot join a table in the TimesTen database with a table in the Oracle database, this is not allowed.
If you are willing to share your business requiremens, we can take a look and see what solution might work for you. Would you like to discuss this offline?

  • SAP HANA as a data source for Analysis Services

I tried to use SAP's .net provider for HANA as a data source for an Analysis Services cube but to no avail.   I can connect, create a named query and preview data from the data source view designer but when SSAS actually tries to run the query,
it wraps the named query in another query and produces a syntax error.
For example,  if the named query is "select * from ENTHANA.MARA",
SSAS sends a query like this "SELECT [test].* FROM (select * from ENTHANA.MARA) AS [test]"   (Test is the name of the named query).
I know SSAS wraps queries and that's fine - except that brackets are not a valid way to quote an identifier in HANA.  HANA uses double quotes like Oracle.
Is there any setting in SSAS that can affect this behavior?   Will HANA ever be a fully supported data source for SSAS?  If so, when?

    Hi David,
According to your description, you are creating a SQL Server Analysis Services project, now what you want is using SAP HANA as the data source, right?
SSAS support many type of data source. However, as you can see on the link below, SAP HANA data source was not listed on that link. So this type of data source is not supported in current version of SSAS. Microsoft will update that document when it is supported.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-IN/library/ms175608.aspx
    Thank you for your understanding.
