Data transfer failure between iPhone 3G and 4

Have just acquired an iPhone 4 and want to transfer the data from the old iPhone 3G to the new one. I followed this guide to try and achieve this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109
I followed all the steps, installed the latest iTunes, upgraded the old phone's iOS and did a back up.
When I got to step 4, there was a problem. I was prompted to restore an existing backup, and when I selected the old phone to back up to the new one, I got a message which said that the software on the NEW phone was too old and the backed up data could not be installed.
I then updated the software on the new phone, and tried again. But now, there is no prompt when I plug in the new phone to restore an existing backup.
Any suggestions how I can restore the backed up data from the old 3G model to the new iPhone 4?

Go to iTunes > Preferences. Under the Devices tab for your iTunes preferences, is there more than one backup available and one for each iPhone which should be named differently? If so, when restoring your iPhone from an iPhone's backup, it will default to the backup for the iPhone you are restoring. You need to manually select from the backup for your previous iPhone when prompted.
Regarding audio files as in iTunes music, no iTunes content is included with an iPhone's backup - no music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, or 3rd party apps. All iTunes content on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Photos transferred from your computer are not included with your iPhone's backup either and should remain on your computer.
Although photos in the iPhone's Camera Roll are included with the iPhone's backup, photos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera and select photos imported from the Camera Roll can be transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync/transfer process as with any other photos on your computer. When there are photos and/or videos in the Camera Roll, the iPhone is also detected as a digital camera when connected to a computer and should be treated as such - as with any other digital camera.
Contacts are also included with the backup, but contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer, and contacts should be available on your computer with or without an iPhone or any cell phone which can be lost or stolen. Not having contacts available on their computer seems to be very common for Windows users which is beyond me. Is this due to the constant virus, adware, and spyware concerns?

  • Data transfer problem between Oracle 9 and Oracle 8

    We have two enviroments one in oracle 9 and other is oracle 8, both are on different unix servers.
    There is a DBlink for Oracle 8 on the oracle 9 database. Now when we try to select any data from oracle 9 and insert into oracle 8 using the dblink all the VARCHAR or CHAR values are going as null.
    For example if we try the following sql:
    INSERT INTO oracle8table@dblink (col1_varchar,col2_num)
    SELECT col1_varchar,col2_num FROM oracle9table
    all the col1_varchar are populated as NULL, however the col2_num is getting populated correctly.
    The data type of both the columns are identical.
    Any help on this highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    How about posting the table structures just to make your post more clearer and avoid ambiguity ?
    Just a matter of thought it is always better to pull the data rather than push the data. For e.g. in oracle you cannot use direct path insert while pushing the data but you can use direct path insert while pulling data.

  • Is it possible to transfer music between iPhones and iPods with out using iTunes

    Is it possible to transfer music between iPhones and iPods with out using iTunes

    Nope.  Both require iTunes on a computer to sync music from.
    Unless the iPod is an iPod Touch and the music was bought from iTunes.  In which case the Touch can simply go to the iTunes App, under Purchased  and download the purchased songs for free.

  • HT4929 can I use iCloud to transfer (sync) between iPhone 4G (OS 5) and a MBP runnibg 10.6.8?

    Can I use iCloud to transfer (sync) between iPhone 4G (OS 5) and a MBP runnibg 10.6.8?...or must I upgrade to 10.7? Most contacts are on my iPhone from my former WIN machine running Outlook.

    iOS 5 is for your iPhone. 10.7.2 or later, Lion, is for the computer. You can upgrade by clicking on the App Store icon in the Dock or Applications folder. Sign in with your Apple ID and password. Locate the Lion installer application. Purchase and download - $30.00.

    Place the photos into iPhoto on your Mac.  Then when syncing your iPhone using iTunes, clock on the "Photos" tab behind your iPhone's summary tab and make sure the sync instructions are set correctly.

  • I cannot sync notes between iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Both devices are running iOS 5.0.1.

    I am unable to sync notes between iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Both devices are running iOS 5.0.1. Any solution?

    So, my DNS is comming from my ISP.  It's the same list of IP addresses for all our other devices that are working: 2 PC's 2 Laptops, a PS3 and a WII, an iPhone 3gs running IOS 5.0 and an iPhone 4 running IOS 5.0.
    The ONLY two devices that are having issues are my iPhone 3gs running IOS 5.0.1 and my iPad 2 running IOS 5.0.1.
    Soooooo,  there is something incompatible with my ISP's DNS and IOS 5.0.1?

  • Date must be between year 1 and year 9999 - error message

    I am receiving the following error message "Dates must be between year 1 and year 9999".  The highest value in the next date value in the DB is 12/31/9999.  The parameters being entered are 01/1900 and 12/9999.  The following formula is the cause of the error:
    EvaluateAfter ({@Start Date});
    Global DateVar EndDate;
           Global StringVar  strEndMonth:=Mid({?End Month/Year} ,1, 2) ;
           Global StringVar  strEndYear:=Mid({?End Month/Year} ,4, 4) ;
           Global NumberVar  nNextMonth:=CDbl (strEndMonth) + 1 ;
           Global StringVar  strEndDay:=ToText(Day(DateSerial (CDbl (strEndYear) , nNextMonth, 1-1) ) , 0) ;
           Global StringVar  strEndDate:=Right ("00" + strEndMonth, 2 ) + "/"Right ("00"strEndDay,2) +"/"  +strEndYear ;
           Global DateVar EndDate:=CDate(strEndDate) ;
    The bolded section is the section of the formula highlighted in Crystal.  I've determined if the user enters 11/9999 as the end date instead of 12/9999 the report runs fine.  Is this a problem with the formula or a limitation in Crystal or little of both?  I don't understand what the formula is doing but at the end of the year it looks like it counts forward to January and then back to December and obviously 9999 is the highest year possible so the attempt to go a month ahead tanks.  Is there a change I can make in the formula to avoid this error?

    The error lies in the formula.
    Global NumberVar nNextMonth:=CDbl (strEndMonth) + 1 ;
    When you enter 12/9999 it adds 1 to the month of 12 giving it 13.
    Global StringVar strEndDay:=ToText(Day(DateSerial (CDbl (strEndYear) , nNextMonth, 1-1)) , 0) ;
    This calculates the last day of the month.  Since from above the variable nNextMonth is 13, it tries to calculate 9999, 13, 1-1 which is invalid since there is no 13th month in any year.
    Make this change and it should work fine.
    Global DateVar EndDate;
    Global StringVar strEndMonth:=Mid({?End Month/Year} ,1, 2) ;
    Global StringVar strEndYear:=Mid({?End Month/Year} ,4, 4) ;
    Global NumberVar nNextMonth:=if CDbl (strEndMonth) = 12 then CDbl (strEndMonth) else CDbl (strEndMonth)+ 1 ;
    Global StringVar strEndDay:=ToText(Day(DateSerial (CDbl (strEndYear) , nNextMonth,
    if CDbl (strEndMonth) = 12 then 31 else 1-1)) , 0) ;
    Global StringVar strEndDate:=Right ("00" + strEndMonth, 2 ) + "/"+Right ("00"+strEndDay,2) +"/" +strEndYear ;
    Global DateVar EndDate:=CDate(strEndDate) ;

  • My 3GS keeps switching between iPhone speaker and Dock connector and I don't know how to keep it on iPhone speaker

    My 3GS keeps switching between iPhone speaker and Dock connector and I don't know how to keep it on iPhone speaker so I can listen to my music and games.  Is it hardware or software problem?

    I was told by a friend that sometimes when you use a 3rd party charger that the connectors are not the same size and so it can affect the sensors in the phone and make it seem like it is in a docking station and so changes the output for dock speakers.  With that said, I didn't take my pohone in to be serviced at the appple store because it was a 3GS and over 2 years old and so not covered by any service plan.  Since then my phone is back to normal and I can use my headphones and listen with the speakers on the phone.  I stoped using the suspected cheap 3rd party charger and maybe that's what did it, but not sure if it was or wasn't the cause of my problem.  I'm glad that my phone is better I was kinda holding out for the Iphone 5 when i comes out later and hope my phone lasted until then.

  • After install iOS 8.1.2 no Bluetooth connection could be made between iphone 6  and/or ipad and/or iPhone 4s

    After install iOS 8.1.2 no Bluetooth connection could be made between iphone 6  and/or ipad and/or iPhone 4s

    The iPhone is not designed to pair with an iPad (except for personal hotspot if your cellular plan allows it) or with another iPhone. What is it that you are trying to do? There are a number of features such as Handoff, Keynote Remote, etc that require Bluetooth to be on but the devices are not paired. See Bluetooth: Why can't I pair my iPhone or iPad with my computer?

  • Are there any difference between iPhone 4S and iPhone 5? What are they?

    What I already know is that iPhone 5 has a larger screen and is slimmer, but are there any difference between the two.  I have iPhone 4S now, should I buy iPhone 5?

    There are a number of major differences between iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, the major one being the processor speed.  iPhone 5 has a much faster processor – two times faster than the processor in iPhone 4S.  This difference is only significant if you use your phone to play high graphics games that require a lot of processing power.  This processing speed also makes the applications load and run faster – iPhone 5 even boots in a shorter time than iPhone 4S.  You can use iPhone 4S comfortably now but when games and graphic apps designed for iPhone 5 are released, you may be forced to upgrade your phone to run the smoothly.
