Data Transfer from External to Time Capsule

I have Mid 2012 Retina Display MacBook Pro and I currently have a 2Tb external HD hooked up to it but it makes my laptop less mobile, if i was to buy an airport or time capsule can i transfer everything thats on my current external HD to that and how?

This is the most difficult way to do it..
Please carefully read Pondini..

I would highly recommend starting over again with fresh backup and keep the old backup for archive.

  • Slow transfer from MacBook to time capsule.

    Hi all,
I want to copy my iphoto library to my time capsule, I have only just set up my time capsule and it is connected to my wifi network and all seems to be functioning correctly. The iphoto library is about 70 gig and when I perform a simple copy and paste function in finder the finder window says that it will take 3 days to complete, this is obviously far slower than expected. I have tried it both with the tc plugged into my router (so just a wireless connection) and directly to my MacBook via ethernet so with the latter especially I would expect pretty quick data transfer. Am I correct in saying that I should just go directly from any of the ethernet ports on the tc to my mac and don't need to change any of the ethernet settings in the network preferences?
I suppose I want to know firstly why is the data transfer so slow and secondly what is the best and quickest way for me copy the iphoto library?
    Thanks in advance

Would you recommend anything cheap ish that will do the job?
I am in Australia.. so the other side of the world.. and all our ISP allow or use exclusively PPPoE.. but I deal with many many UK users in forum in Australia, whirlpool.
Who is your ISP? Do they allow pppoe?? I have noticed a creeping acceptance that BT made a bad choice in using PPPoA exclusively in the early days of ADSL. which was followed like sheep in herd by the minor ISP.
If you can use pppoe.. then you bridge the modem.. not the TC.. and use the pppoe client in the TC.. which is really the only other connection method offered than ethernet and dhcp.
Even an old modem can be fine in bridge.. but netgear.. being the ratbags they are.. made bridging on their modems a total pain. Still there are at least 5 different versions of the DG834G.. with 3 completely different chipsets. So check by google quickly your version.. eg DG834G v3 bridge and see what comes up.
As for other brands.. TP-Link are very popular world wide now.. I guess you will have them in the UK. If you want a modem to bridge they are cheap and generally fine.
A much better brand is draytek.. they build one model, which is designed specifically for the UK .. it is single port bridged modem.. 120.. it is expensive.. but it does one neat trick.. pppoe to pppoa translation.. so you can use it bridged to your ISP.. and use the pppoe client in the TC without having it actually use pppoe. There are a handful of modems that use this trick.
A speedtouch / Thomson / Technicolor 536 is another favourite.. but I am pretty sure you will have to bridge the TC.
Should I still change all the details that you have mentioned anyway (network name and tc name)?
Yes, why not give it a go.. in bridge on the TC.. the name is more important.. it will appear to the Netgear with that illegal name.. just try and see. If it doesn't work it is no biggie. But I advise people generally do not use illegal networking names even if Apple thinks it is ok.. Apple is 10% of the network world.. you have just made yourself part of exclusive club.. which is fine if Apple built modems, ran exclusive ISP for apple users only and the internet.. but they don't. Microsoft tried that and fell on their faces. Why setup names that will be illegal to the rest of the world is beyond me. Why not tell people to stick to SMB compatible names and how important that is.. ?? How much pain Apple has caused people with network issues that stem directly from their illegal naming conventions. if you have to deal with the rest of the world.. which pardon me.. is everyone.
Also you have mentioned that you would normally advise bridging it in a different way, is the way that I have done it ok or does this also need changing?
    Thanks
Yeah that is bridge the modem .. see above.

  • Low data transfer between my iMac & Time Capsule

    Hello,
I have just purchased 1GB Time Capsule yesterday to get a back-up of my iMac HDD, and also to use it as an external HDD. I was much interested by the wireless functions.
After the installation, Time Machine started to save a back-up of my HDD (more than 200GB). But after one full night, only 7GB out of 220GB was transfered wireless.
With a so low data transfer, it will take 20 days for the full back-up.
    Is it normal ?
Do I have to make the first back-up though ethernet (wired) ?
I am working on big video files (xx GB), so I really need to increase the speed of data transfer. Is there someting to change in the settings ?
Thank you for your help, it will be highly appreciated...

  • Time Machine Data Transfer - From FireWire Drive to Time Capsule - HELP!

Time Machine Data Transfer - From FireWire Drive to Time Capsule - HELP!
I've been searching for weeks for a solution to my problem. Here's the story I've come across since I installed Leopard on Oct. 26, 2007.
I first installed Leopard on my Early 2006 MacBook and set up Time Machine with a 200GB external FireWire drive. Since then, things have been fine, until Time Machine started deleting the oldest backups. I'm a pack-rat and hated this feeling of losing data. So, I now have a few months worth of backups on my 200GB FireWire drive.
The Time Capsule is released, I finally talk myself into getting one and transferring my old data from the 200GB drive to my 1TB TC.
I did some researching through forums about how to move data from one Time Machine drive to another, so I took the concept and wanted to apply it to my Time Capsule. I made a DMG image of my 200GB drive, in order to move the data. I figured if I can make an image, copy it, and open it on the Time Capsule - all will go smoothly - just as some had mentioned they've done with external drives.
Now, I have a 164GB DMG image of my Time Machine, with no hope in sight of gaining it back. I've tried taking the image, using Disk Utility, and restoring my original 200GB external with the imaged Time Machine data, but whenever I do, I come across error messages.
In Disk Utility, I've done the following steps:
    * Disk Image is found on Time Capsule
    * I select the 200GB drive and select 'Restore'
    * I drag and drop the Disk Image to the 'Image' field
    * I drag and drop the 200GB drive into the the 'Restore' field
    * Select 'Erase Destination'
    * Select 'Restore'
    * I get the warning message that I'll erase the drive - I proceed
    * I enter my password
    Error message pops up:
"Restore Failure: Could not find any scan information. The source image needs to be imagescanned/scanned for restore."
I select the image in Disk Utility, then proceed with the following steps:
    * Click on "Image" then down to "Scan Image for Restore"
    * I enter my password
After hours of waiting, I get another error message:
    "Unable to scan. (Broken pipe)."
I'm going to see, after transferring the DMG to the Time Capsule, if I can drag-and-drop the files from the Time Capsule drive onto the 200GB hard drive.
IF anyone has any more suggestions, please let me know!

32 updates on this Mac since December 2007 - Hardware, software, OS...
They keep coming at about 6 or 7 a month. Some of them I don't care about, but several are essential. 10.5.3 has been seeded to the testers a couple of times and will probably show up in the next few weeks. Jaguar wasn't worth a d*mn until 10.2.6, Panther about 10.3.4, Tiger about 10.4.4 - I'd say we are ahead or on schedule Too bad I can't get Apple to fix Spaces. I wish they'd focus on what I want but I guess some take more time than others.

  • How do I transfer back up data from my old time capsule to my new one easily.

How do I transfer back up data from my old time capsule to my new one easily.

Before you do this, do you really need all of the old backups that go back many weeks and months?  Most us only ever need to go back a week or two to pick up a file that was accidentally deleted, but that's about it.
Sure, It is tough to think about deleting all the old backups, so a suggestion would be to keep the old Time Capsule around for a month or two....just in case....but start new backups on the new Time Capsule.  Once you have a month or two of backup history on the new Time Capsule, then you might decide to erase the old Time Capsule and sell it....or just keep it around as a spare hard drive.
I've tranferred backups a few times in the past, and used up a lot of space on the "new" Time Capsule to do it, and have found that it is far more trouble than it is worth.
    But, you may disagree.

  • How do I transfer info from my old time capsule to a new one

How do I transfer all data from my old time capsule to a new? (latest model)

Are you talking about TM backups??
I would consider carefully if it is not better to start over.. TM becomes more problematic as the backups increase in age.. you can archive off the backups from the old TC if you need to store them.
    Transfer TM backups..
    Apple doco. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5097

For data .. copy and paste.. but make sure you turn off wireless and use ethernet as it must copy files via the computer.. by wireless this is dead slow.

  • Restoring files from a reformatted time capsule disk?

This sounds dumb, I know. I had a time capsule that wasn't taking backups anymore - I had that stupid privileges issue, and I couldn't figure it out. So, I figured that I would just wipe the whole thing clean since I had backups of my backups. However, there was data on the drive from my wife, who was using it as a server for some reason, and NOT keeping the files on her computer. She blames it on the macbook air she used to use and not have any space on, and had no choice but to use the time capsule to keep things on.
At any rate, long story short, is there any way to restore data from a reformatted time capsule? I tried techtool, but it doesn't see the drive. I also tried plugging in via USB and ethernet, but no go. Would the genius bar be able to help?
    THanks, folks.

    Hi,
    No.
If you have no back up you will need to re-rip them. You cannot use match to retrieve music that is not on your computer or external hard drive.
Match can only scan the music that is in your library.

Hi  can anyone give me a step by step guide as to how i retrieve just a few files from an old time capsule ?
    without a router  ?
I've plugged an ethernet cable into the wan port & my mac & it shows up as a sparspsebundle data file
but i desperetly need to grab these certain files
    please can anyone help?
can i use the usb port on the back of the time capsule
there must be a way  HELP PLEASE  many thanks

Don't panic we are working on it..
I am just avoiding Yosemite like the plague.. (plague on you Yosemite!!) .. as its networking is so bad it causes chaos on my network.. to all other devices.. even though only one device actually runs Yoyos!!
I am not sure how hard it is for you to go back to Mountain Lion.. or if you have a computer running ML on the network.. if so definitely use it.
What OS was last used by the MBP when you stopped using it or is it fully up to date. Is the computer in the network now? If so it is much easier to copy and paste the files from a live computer.
Did you encrypt the backup.. that would really mess things up or have an encrypted disk??
Have you used the normal TM tool in Yosemite to try and recover your files?? Or perhaps migrated the files.. this can work fine.. migration often being a better way of doing things.. although there are a few rules about using different user names.. etc.
There is another proviso here I must add.. Yosemite cannot see the backup quickly.. what I mean is that your backup is >500GB. Even by ethernet Yosemite version Time Machine can take more than 24hours just to index that.. maybe longer and by wireless a lot longer.. 3-5 times.. I do not know why spotlight is so slow in Yosemite.. but trust me.. it is pathetic. The yoyo got its string in a knot and seems to need to untangle it for every single file on the backup.
Be very patient if you open TM backup in Yosemite.. and definitely do this by ethernet not wireless.. otherwise you might die of old age beforehand.

  • How-to move time machine backup from an old Time Capsule to a new one?

As written on the title, I need to move my old backup from an old 500GB to a new dual-band 2TB Time capsule, but I have not found any hint.
I've found many suggestions how to move the backups between externa HD; from external HD to a Time Capsule; between Time Capsule and external HD.
    But nothing about my needs.
Someone can give me an how-to or at least some hint?
    Many thanks to every one!!!

    Cesare Cerutti wrote:

I was able to do that by using the Finder to copy the "sparsebundle" files from the old Time Capsule to temporary storage, replacing the Time Capsule, then copying the "sparsebundle" files from the temporary storage area to the new Time Capsule. If your temporary storage is limited and you have more than one "sparsebundle" file to migrate, you can copy one at a time.
AirPort Utility also has an "Archive" function that you could use instead of a Finder copy.
I believe I saw recently a method of copying directly from one Time Capsule to another, although I can't find it at the moment. If that option makes sense for you, I'll look further.

  • Can anyone explain the mechanism of  data transfer from r3 to bw?

    Hi all the bw expert,
i have one question on the mechanism of data transfer from r3 to bi 7.0. the followings is my concerns:
    scenario:
The total numer of data is 1000 rows and these rows are seperated into 10 data package , each package contains 100 rows.
Now  bw is trying to recieve these 10 packages from r3 in sequence.
When  5 data packages have been transfer to bi psa. the network is broken and the tranfer is canceled at the 6th data package.
What i want to konw is when the network is reconnected ,Does the transfer start from the 6th data package?
Please help me to explain all these. Is there any material or links can be used to understand this feature?
    Thanks ahead.

    Hi......
Connection broken means load failed.......extraction is cancelled.......
If your load is delta........then make the QM status red in the Infopackage........and repeat the load........
If your load is full........(in case of full upload it is not mandatory to make the QM status red..........but ii is a good practice to make the qm status red)
    then repeat the load........
But before repeating the load plz check the connection in SM59............if it is ok then repeat..........otherwise wait for som time.......If still in connection is not ok then contact basis people.....

  • Candidate Data transfer from E-Recruiting System to HR system for New Hiring.

    Hi All,
Hope everyone doing in good Spirit.
We are implementing E-Recruiting as Standalone for one of our client.
Can any please help me in regards with Data transfer from E-Rec System to HR System for hiring once the candidate has been successfully completed recruiting process.
    You inputs are highly appreciable.
    Thank you.
    Sekhar.

    Hello Sekhar,
there are three different scenarios for transferring the data of an external candidate to the HR core for hiring.
the easiest and most commonly used is the RFC connection. When creating an activity of category data transfer the data of the candidate is transferred from eRec to HR core. There it is stored in table T752F. Then you can run transaction PA48. There you can select the candidate and run a hiring action. This is the same action like in PA40 only the system will preset the fields with the values from eRec (similar to batch input).
Instead of using the RFC solution you can transfer the data using PI (this can be activated using a switch in T77S0). To be honest none of my customers is using this. Either they had no PI server at all or they did not use it for eRec
The third was delivered with a business function HCM_HIRE_INT_CI_1. This is based on HCM processes and forms and targeted towards customers using Talent Management Core (e.g. data for education and work experience is transferred into the TM Core infotypes 740X as contrary to the hr core standard infotypes 0022 and 0023 they are structured like the eRec ones). Of course as you can do a lot of customer enhancements to HCMP&F you can replace the behavior nearly completely. One or two of my clients discussed this solution but as far as I know none is actually using it.
The simple truth is most customers seem to not use any integration at all. The first solution is easy to activate but only covers around 13 fields. Compared to a real full blow hiring action this is not even 10% of the fields which have to be entered. So the presetting this small number of fields is not a great help especially as you have to check every information anyways. Furthermore PA48 is not very nice and lacks functions to structure the incoming records which makes it difficult to handle in large distributed organizations.
The other two options require a lot of infrastructure for small functionality. What we discussed with a client was using the new hire integration to preset a full hiring form with eRec data and then send to the candidate as offline form to gather all missing information and use this for hiring. But there were to many issues on data privacy aspects when sending a form with social security data, bank account data, etc. via email. Furthermore they required actual signatures.
    Kind regards

  • Online data transfer from R/3 to APO

    Dear friends,
Can any one help me? What is the transaction code for online data transfer from R/3 to APO?
    Material master;
    BOM;
    Work Center;
    Routing;
    Production version.
My understanding is to create integration models and activate them:
    /CFM1
    /CFM2
    /CFM3
Once it is activated I will be able to see the Master data, Material Master, BOM, Workcenter, Routing and Production version in APO?
    Thanks
    Raj
Edited by: Wilian Segatto on Jan 19, 2010 2:07 PM

    Hello Raj -
If understand you are saying that the a batch job is run every 12 hrs to send in the master data from r/3 to APO?
if thats the case then you have to wait to see the changes or the material that you are trying to CIF till the next batch runs through. the steps tht you have described are right
    Create the integration model.
    activate the integration model.
there are settings in there where you can transfer the data real time also, but i guess your project is not using it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Data transfer from planning to ASO.

    Hi,
    Like that:
Data load in Planning, and data retrieve in ASO. And we want a real time data transfer from Planning to ASO.
Transparent partition from BSO to ASO is a choice, but the performance is an issue.
If we user replicated partition, data cannot be transferred to ASO instantly, since there is a step to replicate data to ASO.
And for Map Reporting Application in Planning, we got the mapping issue, since there are some dimension members totally different between Planning and ASO.
So, can anyone help to show other ways to do that?
    Thank you.

iTunes does transfer files like pictures, music, video, and I believe under the apps section it should transfer specific app files too.
otherwise I don't know. I tried to get my ipad to link to my computer with bluetooth (it saiys it is linked now) but when I try to transfer a file or browse the device it won't work.... I dunno!
