Data Usage App

Hello together,
I have a Simcard of a german prepaid seller discotel. This prepaid seller uses the o2 network.
I have installed the Data Usage App to check my internet data.
The problem I have with this app is that during a month the app stopps recording my data usage. So in the end of the month my real usage is higher than the displayed value.
Can someone recommend me an alternative to this app to track my internet data?
Thank you!
Slam!

Thanks, this is a good idea.
I will try it.
Maybe I bought this other app without any sense
Cheers, Slam!

  • Data usage

I am a new user of a smart phone. I know that when I am connected to my home wifi I am not using any of my 2GB data plan. But I am needed help understanding how many KB, MB of GB's I use when I visit web pages or use my apps such as facebook or weather or send or receive an email. Example, I search on Google for ereaders, all the results come up and I click and look at 3 results, in each of those results I click 5 things. How much data have I used? I don't quite understand if it is each page you visit or everytime you click something. I realize this seems dumb and yes I have the data usage app installed but it would be good to know what I am doing. Another example is if I go to facebook and read all the newsfeeds I have about my friends and click on some of their pictures and or comments and then go to their facebook page, how much data have I used. I did use the data calculator estimate but I am confused because I do not know exactly what "visit web sites" means? Does it mean everything on that web page? or does it go by how many times I click something within a web page?

On the data calculator "Visit a website" means downloading a web page, so if you click to another page on the site, you would have visited two sites.  Of course, the data use can vary widely.  If you are reading text articles on the mobile version of a newspaper, that will use much less data than going to a gallery of high quality photos and looking at each one.
Basically, text uses the least, streaming video uses the most.  The higher the quality, the more data will be used.  Keep an eye on your data widget over the next couple months, that will be the best way to learn how much data your particular activities uses.

  • Data monitor app

Does apple have a diagnostic app, mainly interested in data usage and what app/service usses my data that one can get acces to?
For 3 times in the last 3 weeks I have used upp my 5GB of data (had to buy more) It is almost imposible to track it down sins I cant install wireshark or similar.
an app like netlimiter with logging for windows would be perfekt. I suspect my former podcast app (podcaster) sins it is the only app that download large amount of data, but it should only do so over Wifi. Durign the last 2 days i have used Downcaster but i still hitt the limit (might have been close)
I have mailed my provider sins the loggs thay provide on ther home page say that i use 99.9% of my data att midnight, so that must be all data that day. A also have WiFi at that time and during that day it only say that i use a few KB each h..
I also noticed tat I only hade about 50% battery life left 4h after full charge. I listened to about 70min of audio podcast. My iphone 4 is 2 years old now and I have used it alot so it might not be extremly bad.

If you launch the App Store... select Search at the bottom and then type into the search field Data Usage, you will see results for 63 different apps.
Apple does not have data usage app, but it has some informaton in Settings > General > Usage > Cellular Usage
This above section is only an estimate and should not be used to determine the amount of data you are using, you should check with your carrier for that information.

  • 'Media services' excessive data usage

Does anybody know what the 'Media Services' relates to in data usage?
It is located in Settings>Mobile>System Services.
I updated to IOS 8.1 last night and when leaving the wifi network at home today and going on to 4G my phone went through it's entire battery and 2.5gb of data (my entire cap) in around half a day. The only culprit I can identify is 'Media Services' which is showing a usage of 3.6gb total.
Does anybody know what might have caused this and more importantly how to stop it, otherwise it is going to get expensive quickly!
Im using an iPhone 5, 32gb on IOS 8.1.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for filling us in on the details, dejerru. With the new phones, some settings are definitely different but can be changed to provide you with more options to manage your usage. Let's start by going into Settings > Cellular and scrolling down. What are some of your highest data usage apps listed? You can turn cellular data off for apps you only plan to use from WiFi to avoid the phone switching to cellular when dormant or WiFi signal gets weaker. Also, do you use the Facebook application or watch any videos?

  • Any way to determine which app is causing a spike in my data usage, I've gone over my monthly limit?

In 2 separate 2 hour periods, my phone went through 500MB of data each period - pushing me close to my monthly limit on Verizon. I turned off Cellular Data completely, and have been trying to figure out what app is doing it.  It seems to be something that happens quite suddenly, as I've noticed that the phone gets really hot.  And no, I'm not streaming video, I don't have iTunes match, or any of those obvious issues.
So, I've downloaded Dataman, My Data Manager, and Onavo, but unfortunately, none of them allow you to see which apps are doing the data hogging. My Data Manager does allow me to see data usage on WiFi (the other 2 don't, assuming that all you care about is cellular data)....and it at least confirmed for me what I thought.....After a day of minimal data use, I suddenly had a spike of almost 20GB of data use in 1 hour.  Yes, you heard it 20GB!!!!  It's as if my entire iTunes music library was being downloaded (and no I don't have iTunes wifi sync enabled, and besides, I had just previously synced via USB, so there was nothing new to sync).
My guess is this is related to this:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/oct/17/iphone-5-iphone
Apple needs to figure this out -- Verizone needs to compensate all of us --
But in the meantime, does anyone have any ideas on how to figure out what apps/services are using the data?

        GV2,
I'm glad Mrhelper was able to shed some light on this for you! In iPhones, the amount of data you're seeing under each app is for the "Current Period." Just above that list you'll see info about the Current Period and Current Period Roaming. This is just an overall snapshot of total data usage for that period of time. The Current Period does not reset on its own, so it will be counting everything from the last time you reset it through now. You can reset it by scrolling to the bottom and tapping on "Reset Statistics."
So, for example, if you reset your statistics 3 days ago and then there's 1GB used under App Store you'll know that over the last 3 days 1 GB of data has been used for the App Store.

  • Weather App Affecting my Data Usage

    Hi Community,
Back in October 2013 when I changed my IPhone from a 4S to a 5S I had to go from an “Unlimited” plan to Tiered plan.  I went to a tiered planned capped at 2 GB per billing cycle.  This didn’t bother me because I would never use all of my allocated data and I usually came in way under 2gb’s
Under my new plan, I set up my data alerts to monitor my usage.   This past week on tuesday, I was notified that my usage was at 75% of the data allowed.   I immediately called VZW to ask how and the tech said that my phone had streamed for an inordinate amount of time around 18 hours while using a app, on the days where my usage was high.  The tech was unable to tell me which app, but advised me to take it into the store immediately.
I took my phone into the store and luckily the manager had the same issue on his IPad.  He replaced the Sim Card and reset the settings on my phone and credited my account $20 to pay for the extra usage.   Really great customer service!!!
Monitoring my data usage, I noticed that my phone would incrementally use the data plan even while on my wifi.    It would only do it in 8 hour increments, I was led to a previous post via Google (on the apple forums) and I found that the culprit may that I had set up my phone to automatically send diagnostic data.
I shut this feature off, being nosy I looked at the data that was being sent and noticed two odd diagnostic reports titled: Weather_2013_11.08_17:55 and Weather +Stacks 11/10 20:37:47.
The latter (Weather +Stacks 11/10 20:37:47.) diagnostic report I can only assume was informing me that the weather app stayed opened beyond its allocated time.  Which prevented the phone from sleeping so it the OS finally crashed the crashed the program.
Also I assume that the report was informing me that informed me in the app it had stayed connected to the weather server for 66,447 seconds, which is about 18.45 hours and used 1147387904 bytes of data or just over 1 GB of usage….
Now I’m not saying that these separate instances are related, but the interesting thing 11/10 I was shown according to VZW that I had amassed 66.51 MB’s.
I am wondering if anyone else has seen this correlation.  I have attached screenshots to clarify any confusing parts of the story.   there are three pics, so scroll all the way down

Settings > Cellular only counts cellular data.  I can verify that because I'm on AT&T and that carrier offers a service whereby you can telephone *DATA and receive a text message from them telling your month-to-date cellular data usage.  I can compare that number to what I see in Settings > Cellular and the two are pretty well equivalent.
Again, I do a Settings > Cellular > Reset Statistics at the end of every billing month.
UPDATE - I said "month-to-date cellular data usage" above.  I should have said "billing period to date."

  • Is there an app that shows data usage at the top of screen on a iPhone

I'm looking for an app that will run a data usage readout at the top of my iPhone 5 running in real time in the background
Does anyone know of an app that does that?

I have 6 bluetooth devices paired with my iphone.  The speakers (same brand for home and office) are in position 1 and 2.  (office is number 2)
When I come into my office in the morning, the power to the speakers is already on.  I have to go to settings/bluetooth and select the speakers in my office in order to connect.  It does not connect automatically.  When I leave my office to go elsewhere in the building that's out of range, if I take my iPhone, I have to reconnect when I get back to my office.  I suppose I could turn the speakers off, then back on again, but that's just one more step I shouldn't have to take.  Interesting enough, when I enter my family room with my speakers at home (position 1) the speakers connect automatically.
What I'm looking for is an app that lets me select specific bluetooth devices and places an icon on my screen.  Then all I'd need to do is press that icon and automatically be connected to the bluetooth device I want.
BTW, I have a bluetooth hands free device in my car. (position 3 on the list)  When I get in, I always have to do the same thing to connect to it.

  • What is the best app for managing data usage on an iPhone 4S?

What app are most of you using to manage your data usage on an iPhone 4S.

Assuming that DonXX means 'monitor' rather than 'manage', my experience may be of relevance.
I have a data usage problem with my iPhone 4. It started for me when I 'upgraded' to ioS 6. This may or may not be a coincidence. I went from an average monthly data usage of 150MB/month (a 2 year average) to 8.1 GB up/download in 28 days. To try and track down which app is The Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal, I've just installed the Onavo Count app. This claims to monitor the data usage of each app. My sights at the moment are on Skype. I only use iCloud for Calendar syncing.

for eg : Mobile Data Usage - Current Data Usage - Current Period volumes showing 342 MB but if i check the  Use Mobile Data For Apps Volumes for all Apps including System Service Data's and Uninstalled Data's are showing very less ( around 200 MB only ) compare with Current Period Volumes.
Mobile Data Usage - Current Data Usage - Current Period  and Use Mobile Data For Apps ( Apps wise data usage ) Data's are not matching..
Please let me know will it show like that only or its an issue ????  if you want i can share the screen shot as well.

When I turn most of them off, they just automatically reset themselves to allow data usage.
    Any thoughts?

I am definately having the same problem and cannot believe there are no answers or even support that this problem exists.  I never have to post on forumns, I read what is usually readilly availiable for the craziest of problems.
Anyways, the problem is just that, I can toggle off a individual app's setting of cellular data availability, but it changes right back on rescreening.  After restarting, resetting etc, it seems that the big Apple Apps are the biggest offenders.  Music is a very important one, Podcasts can kill you very quickly, app store, Photos, Facetime, Stocks?!?!?!
When one searches for solutions I have to see hundreds of links to "How great is ios7, you can turn off cellular data for individual apps FOR DUMMIES!".  I am a dedicated apple fool since the Apple IIe (long time), but when they run afowl it is usually really bad.  Why offer an on/off switch if the setting is always on?
I am writing just to add support to the existence of this problem, not so much for people to offer ideas of solutions as I now believe it is in the coding.
    Thank you

I'm using a 16GB iPhone 4S, with the latest version of iOS 8.1.1. Whenever I go to the "Cellular" settings on the main settings page and turn OFF cellular data usage for native apps like mail, app store, contacts, photos etc , the moment I back out and come back in, all the native apps I turned cellular off for are back on again. Kindly help me

Exact same question as ankit1986, specifically with the photos while on cellular-only, and as simple as it sounds, I tried the hard reboot Ingo2711 suggested.  Still experiencing the same error with the native apps reverting to on.  It's killing our shared data-plan (2GB).

  • APP TO TRACK DATA USAGE FROM EACH APP

Guys, i am experiencing the same. My data package got over, and i took time to recharge ( 4 days). And during these 4 days, my phone battery was amazing, i used to charge it once in 2 days.
Im sure there is some app that uses data extensively that screws our battery.
When i connected to wifi , i noticed the battery getting low as well.
If only APPLE was smart enough, to create some software that tells us, that its using this much amount of data and at what time, then this battery issue will be resolved.
But that wont happen, because then they wont be a lot of free too good to be true free apps, which collects data and whatsoever without we know.
Until then, enjoy your life with a USB cable in your pocket and a car charger is your car, to charge it thrice a day.
    Thanks.

Dear Diesel , As mentioned earlier if APPLE was smart , but it seems there are smarter people creating paid apps for the same.
Nevertheless , my point in reference to APPLE, is they should create an option in the iOS , similar to the cellular data usage.
    SETTINGS>GENERAL>USAGE>CELLULAR USAGE
If this is taken note of seriously by APPLE, then only we could have a greater battery life.
Hope you got a clear picture now.

  • Keep getting kicked out of apps or videos or Facebook when they are loading.  Data usage says low memory...

I keep getting kicked out if apps Facebook or videos as they load... Under data usage sent to apple it says low memory,  how do I correct this?

HOw much empty space do you have on your device? If it's trying to download or buffer the video and there's not enough  local storage then it may kick up an error

  • The ' usage' app showing incorrect data usage.

The amount of data used shown in usage app is incorrect when i checked the actual amount used with carrier.
Sometimes its much larger and sonetimes much smaller than actual amount used.
