Data View Web Part - List of Subsites and Document Libraries under Current Site - Must be able to Package as Site Template in SPDesigner

Hi Guys,
On the home page of each sub site I would like to be able to show a list of subsites and Document libraries that are under the current subsite.
I started investigating a solution using Datasources with SOAP requests sent to the server but it is very difficult to understand how to surface it on the Data View WebPart.
I have tried with the search results webpart but the problem is that it does not work well when packaged in a Site Template.
Please advise.
Thanks and Regards,
Rhyan

Ok,
Here is the problem:
When creating a mysite from powershell or script, apparently you can ONLY do this from a wfe (or a server running Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application in services on server).
You CANNOT create mysites from script on your appserver if it is not also a Web Application Server. I confirmed the same is true in my test farm. I guess I was always running most of these scripts on the webserver.
I searched all over and cannot find this documented anywhere.
Who do I contact to have Microsoft document this?
It's Thursday morning, I've been working non stop since Saturday morning so you don't have to :)

  • Modify the data source of a data view web part

    I have a dataView web part deployed in a template in multiple site collection. This dataView hasn't any query set up, so it loads a lot of items and this is slowing down my system.
    Now I want to programmatically put a query overriding the existent (empty) one and I'm doing like this:
    System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.WebPart y = (System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.WebPart)item;
    Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.DataFormWebPart z = (Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.DataFormWebPart)item;
    StringBuilder dataSourceString = new StringBuilder("<%@ Register TagPrefix=\"sharepoint\" Namespace=\"Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls\" Assembly=\"Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c\" %>");
    dataSourceString.Append("<%@ Register TagPrefix=\"WebPartPages\" Namespace=\"Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages\" Assembly=\"Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c\" %>");
    dataSourceString.Append("<sharepoint:SoapDataSource runat=\"server\" SelectUrl=\"http://intranet.contoso.com/sites/spc/_vti_bin/lists.asmx\" InsertUrl=\"\" UpdateUrl=\"\" DeleteUrl=\"\" SelectAction=\"http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/GetListItems\" InsertAction=\"\" UpdateAction=\"\" DeleteAction=\"\" SelectPort=\"ListsSoap\" InsertPort=\"\" UpdatePort=\"\" DeletePort=\"\" SelectServiceName=\"Lists\" InsertServiceName=\"\" UpdateServiceName=\"\" DeleteServiceName=\"\" AuthType=\"Basic\" AuthUserName=\"contoso\\administrator\" AuthPassword=\"pass@word1\" WsdlPath=\"http://intranet.contoso.com/sites/spc/_vti_bin/lists.asmx?WSDL\" XPath=\"\" ID=\"SoapDataSource3\">");
    dataSourceString.Append("<SelectCommand><soap:Envelope xmlns:soap=\"http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/\"><soap:Body><GetListItems xmlns=\"http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/\"><listName>Jobs</listName>");
    dataSourceString.Append("<Query><Where><Eq><FieldRef Name=\"Title\" /><Value Type=\"Text\">2012_080_A_0</Value></Eq></Where></Query>");
    dataSourceString.Append("<rowLimit>9999</rowLimit></GetListItems></soap:Body></soap:Envelope></SelectCommand><InsertCommand></InsertCommand><UpdateCommand></UpdateCommand><DeleteCommand></DeleteCommand></sharepoint:SoapDataSource>");
    z.DataSourcesString = dataSourceString.ToString();
    manager.SaveChanges(z);
    In my code, I can see the DataSourceString changing, but if I refresh the page it is still loading all the data: why?!

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to change the data view web part datasource programmatically.
    We need to override the databind method like below:
    public class ExtendedDataFormWebPart : DataFormWebPart
    public override void DataBind()
    this.DataSource = your own data source;
    base.DataBind();
    Here is a detailed code demo for your reference:

  • Sharepoint 2013 Web Parts missing - XsltListViewWebPart, Data View Web Part ...

    Hi,
    I'm using a SP2013 standalone dev server and I can´t find some web parts like XsltListViewWebPart and Data View Web Part.
    I was expecting to find a category like "Lists and Libraries" or "Authoring" but I can´t find it.
    I'm a site collection admin and have standard, enterprise and publishing features activated.
    Shouln´t I see those Web Parts?
    I noticed that I don´t have any file "XsltListViewWebPart.webpart" on my server file system. should it exists there?
    Thanks,
    DD

    Hi,
    If you want to add a XsltListViewWebPart into page via UI.
    In SharePoint 2010, we can find in "Lists and Libraries" category.
    In SharePoint 2013, the category named "Apps".

  • How do I set the scope to recursive in the Data View Web Part in SP 2013?

    How do I set the scope to recursive in the Data View Web Part in SP 2013?
    I have items in folders that I would like to display in the data view web part out of their folders.  I know that I need to set the scope to recursive.  I found documentation on how to do it in 2010, but since they removed all views other than
    the code view, I am unsure about how to do so.
    Link to article describing how to do what I am trying to do in 2010:
    https://www.nothingbutsharepoint.com/2009/05/13/data-view-web-part-folders-part-2-aspx/

    Hi,
    In SharePoint Designer 2013, we can click the code of the Data view web part. Then switch the tab to "OPTIONS". And then we can find the Folder Scope option, you can select "Show All Files of All Folders"
    to achieve your requirement.
    Thanks,

    Hi Vivek,
    If i understand it right, you know how to do other bits and want help in displaying data for only current date. on your view you can use filter condition as :
                    column: Date
                    condition : is equal to
                     value:     [Today]
    Let me know if this helps.

  • Data view web part to display the most frequently accessed pages based on the user that is logged in

    I am working on a project in which I would like to display the top 5 most accessed pieces of content as links, based on the user that is logged in. Our MOSS 2007 implementation has subsites for all regions that we do business in, as an example North, South, East, and West. When a user visits the North region homepage, I would like a web part to display:
    Hello, <username>, here is a listing of your most accessed content:
    Link to One
    Link to Two
    Link to Three
    Link to Four
    Link to Five
    So each user would get a customized list based on their content access. We are not using my sites, but these would not work as we want the list to display on the home page of the region site.
    I am thinking that a data view may work here, but I am not sure. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    If you are running MOSS you may want to take a look at the Relevant Documents web part too.
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointserver/HA102410251033.aspx
    The Relevant Documents Web Part helps you create a personalized view of the documents that you create, check out, and change. In a large Document Center, the Web Part can save you time and effort by making files easier to find and use. The following figure shows the Web Part:

  • Getting error while adding field to data viewer web part

    I have custom EditItemForm for a custom list having over 100 columns. That EditItemForm contains a DataFormWebPart in edit mode having over 100
    <SharePoint:FormField controls.
    If I browse for the above page in internet explorer, I got got the generic error:
    "Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible HTML editor such
    as Microsoft SharePoint Designer. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator.
    Correlation ID:XXXXXXX"
    I went to Log, and got the exact error details as follows,
    "Error while executing web part: System.StackOverflowException: Operation caused a stack overflow.     at
    Microsoft.Xslt.NativeMethod.CheckForSufficientStack()     at <xsl:template name="dvt_1.rowedit">(XmlQueryRuntime , XPathNavigator , Double , String )     at <xsl:template name="dvt_1.body">(XmlQueryRuntime
    , IList`1 , Double , Double )     at <xsl:template name="dvt_1">(XmlQueryRuntime , XPathNavigator )     at Root(XmlQueryRuntime )     at System.Xml.Xsl.XmlILCommand.Execute(Object defaultDocument,
    XmlResolver dataSources, XsltArgumentList argumentList, XmlWriter writer, Boolean closeWriter)     at System.Xml.Xsl.XmlILCommand.Execute(IXPathNavigable contextDocument, XmlResolver dataSources, XsltArgumentList argumentList, XmlWriter
    results)     at System.Xml.Xsl.XslCompiledTransform.Tr..."
    Then I thought of removing some columns from the dataFormWebpart. I removed several
    <SharePoint:FormField controls from the dataFormWebpart. Then page started working fine.
    Please let us know if there is any workaround to fix this issue.
    Note: The same page was working fine in MOSS 2007 before migrating to SharePoint
    2010.
    Sharepoint Consultant from NY, USA

    In SP1 and earlier, you could sometimes fix this by breaking the "dvt_1.rowedit" template into smaller templates and calling them sequentially. Sadly, this no longer works in many cases.
    Microsoft's "fix" for this problem appears in the August 2011 CU (Possibly earlier in the June CU - haven't checked that one). They have implemented a one-second timer that artificially throws a stack overflow exception if a transform takes longer than 1
    second.
    Reflector shows us what's going on. As the stack trace shows, it's in Microsoft.Xslt.NativeMethod.CheckForSufficientStack().
    A dateTime variable has been set to Now + 1 second when a Microsoft.Xslt.NativeMethod.SetStackBarrier() method was called, then we have this gem:
    public static unsafe void CheckForSufficientStack()
    void* stackBarrier = StackBarrier;
    if (dateTime < DateTime.Now)
    throw new StackOverflowException();
    if (&stackBarrier < stackBarrier)
    throw new StackOverflowException();
    As you can see, there has been no real stack overflow, and there isn't even any provision for allowing a SharePoint admin to adjust the now-plus-one-second hack.
    The MSFT support person we spoke with said this code was added in the August CU to "prevent long transforms from bringing down the server." So... Let's see what the SP1 version of the same method looks like:
    public static unsafe void CheckForSufficientStack()
    void* stackBarrier = StackBarrier;
    if (((++callCount & 0xffff) == 0) && (dateTime.AddSeconds(5.0) < DateTime.Now))
    throw new StackOverflowException();
    if (&stackBarrier < stackBarrier)
    throw new StackOverflowException();
    Well, at least it allowed 5 seconds instead of 1....

  • List View Web part not showing all available views for list

    We have added a list view web part to a page, and we get the "Current View" link in the web part...which is configurable when modifying the actual web part.
    What we'd like to see (instead of having to click the ellipses button/context menu to get the other views) is the views displayed horizontally like when you are viewing the list itself.
    When viewing the list itself, we see "All Items" "View 1" "View 2", etc.
    Is this possible in the list view web part to display all available views in a horizontal/breadcrumb layout?  Please advise.

    The below works via alert, just need to now assign data to a <DIV> or element for display.
    Trying this in simple webpart code snippet to get back all views:
        <script>
        var viewCollection = null;
            function runCode() {
                var clientContext = new SP.ClientContext.get_current();
                if (clientContext != undefined && clientContext != null) {
                    var web = clientContext.get_web();
                    var listCollection = web.get_lists();
                    var list = listCollection.getByTitle("MyListName");
                    this.viewCollection = list.get_views();
                    //var viewInfo = new SP.ViewCreationInformation();
                    //viewInfo.set_title('MyView');
                    //this.viewCollection.add(viewInfo);
                    clientContext.load(this.viewCollection);
                    clientContext.executeQueryAsync(Function.createDelegate(this, this.onQuerySucceeded), Function.createDelegate(this, this.onQueryFailed));
            function onQuerySucceeded() {
                var viewInfo = 'Tasks list current views: \n\n';
                var viewEnumerator = this.viewCollection.getEnumerator();
                while (viewEnumerator.moveNext()) {
                    var view = viewEnumerator.get_current();
                    viewInfo += view.get_title() + '\n';
                alert(viewInfo);
            function onQueryFailed(sender, args) {
                alert('Request failed. ' + args.get_message() + '\n' + args.get_stackTrace());
        </script>
        <a onclick='return runCode();'>Click here</a>

  • ECT List View Web Part displaying incorrect data when View Item

    I have a External Content Type which pulls data from a stored procedure. The stored procedure has 1 parameter - the users logon id. The data retrieved is a list of meetings with start date time, end date time, location, subject, etc. From this ECT there
    is an External List which displays all data correctly.
    There is 2 pages within the site and its subsites that have list view web parts which display a subset of the info from the external list. When the user clicks a specific meeting to display the complete info on the meeting, the wrong information is displayed,
    it always displays the info for the 1st meeting in the list. So, I displayed the BDC Identity field on the list and this field is identical for all the rows since the key for the ECT is the username and hence not unique.
    I've spent all day trying to finding a way to resolve this and have come up empty. I've tried to find a way to make the BDC Identity field to be unique, using Business Data View web part, Data View web part, and nothing.
    The user needs to be able to click the My Meetings url header on the above pages to see a full list of their meetings so I need the external list. Any ideas how to make the BDC Identity field unique or how to get the View Item on the List View web part to
    work correctly?

    Sorry, I do not understand what you mean.
    I resolved the non unique BDC Identity problem by simply adding the row # to the Username in the stored procedure so the BDC Identity fields on the list records are now unique (although they're really long ie. __bk44003500070057003700560027000200140037003700f600360096001600470056003300,
    __bk44003500070057003700560027000200140037003700f600360096001600470056004300 etc). Not sure how it generates the BDC Identity?
    I still see the same behaviour when you select a meeting to display the details. It always displays the 1st record in the list.
    I added code to the DispForm to display the ID when the page loads and the BDC Identity from the record and verfied that they do match.
    I can add another parameter to the stored procedure and just return the row # in that field. What do you mean by make the identifire as Identity in operations?

  • SharePoint 2010 list view web part not showing conditional formatting

    when I create conditional formatting in custom list is working fine & when it call through web part page (Data view web part) conditional formatting not showing. data is showing without conditional formatting.
    Dinuka M.

    When you use conditional formatting on some page it is writing inline CSS codes inside that page. thats why when you create a new page and add the same web part to that page, you must edit that page to apply conditional formatting to that
    web part.
    Best Regards, Mustafa Yılmaz MCITP, MCPD | www.mustafa-yilmaz.org | www.sharepointciyiz.biz
    When you say edit the page, do you mean edit it in SharePoint Designer, or in SharePoint itself. And is it a case of just editing, then saving the page and it will apply the conditional formatting, or is there a specific property you need to edit, and if so,
    what is it?

  • External List: List View Web Part query never returns

    I am experiencing an usual issue in our development SharePoint 2013 environment. I have been troubleshooting it for a couple hours, so thought it is time to post a message here.
    I have created a number of external content types and lists on our site. I have validated that the lists display the expected data.
    However, when I add a page to our site, and add a list view web part to the page, and point the list view web part at the external list, I get unexpected behavior.  While I am editing the page, the web part displays the expected data. However, after
    I publish the page, when you browse to the page, all you get is the rotating green arrow gif image, and no data. It displays the image forever. If you then attempt to edit the page, in the editor, you can then see the expected data.
    Any thoughts on what might be causing this issue? I have tried switching out web parts, both to the Business Data List and the Content Query web part. The Content Query web part throws an exception if you attempt to point it at any of the external lists,
    which after some reading I discovered that this is a known issue with that web part.
    The Business Data list web part shows the expected data, but I have been unable to get paging/grouping working with that web part yet.
    Greg Pierson

    I have recreated this issue on a clean site collection. I have also discovered this issue only occurs with publishing pages, not site pages. next step is to try to reproduce it on another share point 2013 install.

  • Different query for same view showing on different page as list view web part

    Hi all,
    If you have three pages and want to add Documents library as list view web part to these three pages with different query (Programmatically), Do you need to create three different views for Documents library or it is possible to have different query when
    I add the list view web part to the page?
    thanks and appreciate all kind of advice.

    When you add a List View Web Part to a page, SharePoint actually copies the selected view query into the Web Part itself. For example:
    You create a custom view on a list called "Mede71's View" and you configure it only show the Title column
    You add a List View Web Part to a page and update the settings to use the "Mede71's View"
    You go back to your list and change "Mede71's View" and add the "Modified Date" column
    Your List View Web Part will not reflect this change because in step 2 the Query from the view was copied into the List View Web Part
    When you programmatically add the List View Web Part, you can either assign it to an existing view or supply the query directly. If you want to instruct users to be able to add their own web parts pointing to those views in the future, I would recommend
    creating the views first.
    Dimitri Ayrapetov (MCSE: SharePoint)

  • After adding list view into the web part page, the items and list control ribbon is not activated.

    I created new webpart page and added one list view web part into the page.
    However I can see the ITEMS and LIST tabs on ribbon area, but all the buttons are deactivated.
    Do I have to activate any feature for this or any settings are needed for the webpart?
    I already have full permission for this site.
    For your easy understand I added the screenshot.

    Thanks for you advice.
    However I am currently using the context menu and edit link in the view.
    My Client keep complaining about the ribbon is not activated even thought it works fine in the SharePoint 2010.

  • Display Calendar View in List View Web Part

    We have a list and a calendar view of the list. I wanted to display the calendar view of the list in a List View Web Part in another page in the site.
    When I select the 'Calendar View' from the Views drop-down - it does not work.
    Please can you help.

    Hi Aritra,
    Is there some errors on your environment? So, you can have two workaround to do it.
    You can use SharePoint designer to add an empty data view source on your page ,then select the page.
    Use
    Page viewer web part on your page, then put your calendar view web part page URL into your PVWP.
