Database 8.1.7 response issue

Hi Guys,
I have one issue raised by customer about performance of database. The platform is HP-UX 11i and Oracle 8.1.7
There is 3-tier architecture with D2k as front-end , One application or file server ( Novell based ) and Database server ( 8.1.7 with HP-UX 11i )
I don't see any probelms from hardware and OS perspective. Oracle is using raw devices in HP StorageWorks EVA 5000 ( 2 nos )with 3 HBAs for for each EVA from the HP rp7410 server ( 4x875Mhz CPU , 8GB RAM , HP-UX 11i OS ) through SAN switches.
The systems shows users around 400. As per DBA's feedback
SGA is 1.8GB with with total data files size around 135GB
( In terms of object is 90GB )
How the UNIX kernel paramter making use of dbc_max_pct parameter?
Can anyone there, guide me on how to trace the cause of system slowness?

  • APEX hosted site slow response issues

    Hi,
    Is anyone else experiencing slow response issues when navigating through the hosted (apex.oracle.com) APEX site. About a 2-3 weeks ago we started noticing that it takes a long time to log into the site as well as navigate through anything
    This might sound odd but often times how we would workaround it is by repeatedly "re-clicking" a link or a button to get the page to return. Whenever the site is slow in respnding we wound see "Waiting for apex.oracle.com" in the browser's bottom console.
    We see the same issue with IE or Firefox and its only the apex.oracle.com site that has this problem.

    As I posted on another thread:
    Sorry for the lack of a reply here. With the long holiday in the U.S. and then my past two days of this week, spending at least a half a day each on apex.oracle.com, I haven't been paying attention to the discussion forums. I was unaware of this active thread.
    Don't worry Ben, I'm not going to say "It's fine for me". TKyte had identified a bug or two in Ask Tom over the weekend, and I tried to fix them on Monday morning. What should have taken me 10 minutes took me two hours.
    This has been my top priority for the past two days. There are some networking issues still being researched. A configuration change was made earlier today which seems to have alleviated the issue, but I'm not convinced that it will be a permanent fix.
    Understand that this has not been a database issue nor an Application Express issue. Every time the performance was glacial, both yesterday and today, I examined the database and there was hardly anything going on. It was a hardware (filer) issue a month ago, and it appears to be either firewall or network card or network issue or all three. Regardless, I am embarrassed for Oracle's sake - this should be our flagship for Oracle Application Express, and the past month or two of poor performance can only serve to dissuade from using Oracle and Oracle Application Express.

  • FDF response issue with Acrobat Reader 9.4.2

    Hello,
    The Adobe Reader 9.4.2 is causing issues with FDF response.
    Our web application serves PDF dynamically via custom IHttphandler. Our website enables users  to fill pdf forms with data and then sends data by submitting it in XFDF format to some data handler module which saves pdf form's data to Database and then sends FDF resrponse to enable users to continue the  interaction  with pdf form.
    Prior to this update we didn't expeirence any issues during described process with any Adobe Reader version.
    Now, if our app sends FDF response after PDF form data is submitted and saved, the following error occurs :
    "Unable to locate the form, because the FDF lacks an /F key. If the FDF  came back as a result of a submit from a PDF form, then the URL is  probably missing "#FDF" at the end".
    I'm providing the url with "#FDF" part at the end and it can't cause any problems.
    As far as the  /F key is concerned, if I provide add it to my response FDF with URL, it redirects to that URL which is  not a desired and correct behaviour for our website.
    This error has not appeared before, and doesn't appear after Adobe Reader X latest patch (10.0.1).
    Any solutions to this issue would be appriciated.
    Thanks,
    David

    Hey David,
    Yeah, I also found the .3 update to much joy the other day, but I fairly quickly arrived at the same conclusion as you   However our company has filed a support ticket with Adobe Developer Support describing the error. Also I set up a simple test-page that hopefully will expose the error for the Adobe staff.

    When I get any news I'll be sure to let you know.

  • Oracle Database upgrade to 11G (Host_Command Issues)

    Sorry I'm posting this again. Original post in Database - Upgrade. I'm not getting a lot of clicks in that category
    We recently upgraded to Oracle 11g (Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production). Our PL/SQL release: (PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production). We use a lot of host commands inside our PL/SQL stored procedures. One of these included fetching data from an external server and pushing the data into Oracle Tables.
    Most of this process is running fine, except the execution never completes. There is no issue data wise. It's just that the Host_command doesn't receive the completion status and seems to be running even though there's nothing going on in the background.
    The Oracle e-business suite's concurrent program based on this stored proc also never completes, though it doesn't do anything in the background. For testing purpose, our DBA used 2 insert statements one before and one after the host_command. The insert before the host_command worked but not the one after. Please help! This is happening after we upgraded to 11g 3 weeks ago!
    Thanks, Naveen Gagadam.

    Pl do not post duplicates - Upgrade to 11g, Host Command Inside Stored Proc doesn't end.

  • Oracle Database VM Template - too many issues

    Just wanted to offer my experience with the Oracle VM Template, specifically for 64-bit Oracle Database 11g (11.1). We decided to try out Oracle VM and the templates on a new server, we thought the promise of the templates could drastically decrease our time spent installing and setting up new boxes.
    Setting up the template and getting it running was a breeze, although Oracle could have better documented things. Some passwords and important steps were left out that I had to figure out after the fact.
    The real nightmare is the Oracle database installation it comes with. I guess they call this an OEM installation - but it's complete crap. Nothing really works like it should, and I found it to be a lost-cause trying to get it to work after awhile. Enterprise Manager comes disabled - what kind of database installation is this without enterprise manager? I guess they think everyone is using Grid Control - although I'm not even convinced Grid Control would have worked with all the issues going on.
    I spent a day trying configure the installation to get things working, then realized packages were missing, needed for anything other than the database engine to run, due to the stripped version of oracle linux the template uses.
    None of this was documented or explained at all. There's nothing on metalink..pretty much nothing. If you want a simple database that you can connect to and run sql queries through sql plus, this might just work. But it's far from a typical production setup. I would steer clear of this.

    Hi there,
    VPD (Virtual Private Database) is a feature of the Oracle Enterprise Edition:

  • Removing xmlns from web service response issue (XSTL mapping)

    Hi XI experts.
    I'm having a very strange issue with a pamming program: It all started because the response from a 3rd party web service is coming with a "xmlns=http://....etc" in the document node and this was causing XI not to recognize the message.
    After reading most of the forum threads and with the help of other web resources, I was able to write a small XSLT program to remove this. The program seems to work perfectly: I can open the resulting XML document in IE, return it as a response to a test soapUI call, even load it all in "green" in the XI mapping test tool.
    But, when I feed the resulting message into the next mapping (XI mapping), only the Message Type node is produced at the other end!!! Not even an error message is issued. The same happens in the mapping test tool. Hoewver, I'm able to display the queues. I'm puzzled.
    This is my XSLT mapping, is there anything wrong with it?
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
    <xsl:template match="*">
    <xsl:element name="{local-name()}">
    <xsl:for-each select="@*">
    <xsl:attribute name="{local-name()}">
    <xsl:value-of select="."/>
    </xsl:attribute>
    </xsl:for-each>
    <xsl:apply-templates/>
    </xsl:element>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    Thanks in advance.
    Carlos

    Hi Aamir,
    Thanks for your response. I will check it out.
    In the last 10 minutes or so I realized that the empty message is being produced because the first child node of the message is optional (0..1) and for some strange reason that source node mapped to it was not being recognized after the XSLT. I confirmed this by mapping this node to a constant. Then I restored the original mapping and now it's working - weird! It looks like something was messed up inside the XI mapping program.  I will continue testing however I am now off-site and have no connectivity via SOAPUI until Monday.
    Thanks.

  • Web service SOAP response issue

    Hi,*
    We are upgrading system from ECC 5.0 to ECC 6.0. All of our webservices were created in new system with SOAManager configuration.
    When the consumer systsem is trying to consume one of the webservice the XML response is different when compared with the one tested from ECC 5.0.
    ECC 6.0 is returning different XML for the same web service. The consuming system "Cold Fusion' is expecting the SOAP XML in different place.
    When we tested the same webservice in WS navigator it did gave the response. Also the issue is with this webservice only.
    We have re created the webservice again and tested from cold fusion and the same response.
    The issue is with only this webservice.
    Regards,
    Prashanth.

    Christoph,
    Firstly LiveCycle Designer 8.2 is still not supported to develop forms as per my knowledge. The latest version compatible for SAP Interactive Forms is ALD 8.0.
    There is a difference between Acrobat based forms and LiveCycle forms and based on your coding it looks to me  that you are trying to create a LiveCycle based form with coding of Acrobat which is not supported in LiveCycle Desginer, which is why you may be getting the error.
    I hope that does not confuse you, so may check this [link|http://www.acrobatusers.com/articles/2006/08/designer_or_forms/index.php] for some clear information on what point I was trying to make.

  • Web Service Response issue for some Requests

    I have a WebService deployed on Oracle Application Server and it's an HTTPS connection. I am facing a small issue and can't figure out
    what's going on. For each request there's a response returned. Sometimes the comsumer does not get the response back even though the request
    is successfully processed and response generated but some how it never makes it to the consumer.
    Here is the signature of the function:
    public Element parseData(Element data) throws RemoteException;
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------And I can't figure out why a consumer does not receive a response back for some of the requests. Any ideas what might be wrong or how to
    debug this issue. Is there any place I can look to see for each request is a response going back. I don't know if it's related Network or
    App. Server and where to start to debug this. As looking at the logs of my Web Service I do see all the requests being processed and response
    being generated but some how it never makes it to the consumer. It normally takes arround 5 to 10 seconds to process each request and most
    of time multiple requests may be being processed.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi there.
    If the consumer of your service is a .NET client, it will silently ignore any response that is not formated as advertize in the WSDL and will return an empty object to the caller. As you are trying to use raw XML Element, it seams to be a potential explaination.
    If you can turn off SSL in your test environment, you may want to run a TCP sniffer tool, on the host where your server is running. You can setup a filter on the IP @ of the consumer or the TCP port of the service comsumed. I'll recommend you look at ethereal as it's a cross platform utility.
    Hope it helps.

  • Oracle Database Express Edition 10g Download Issue

    Hi everyone. I just downloaded the freeware Oracle Database Express Edition without any apparent problems. However, when I attempt to go to the Express Edition Homepage, which is location http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex,
    I get the message that my Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. (It can, however, display other pages.) I cannot understand why this is the case since I successfully added Web site 127.0.0.1 in my Control Panel (as specified in the instructions.) Also, the instructions stated that HTTP port 8080 was the default port, unless my system said that this was not available (which it did not.) I also tried rebooting, which did not make a difference. Help!
    Thanks,

Help!There is a forum dedicated to Express Edition, in which we have discussed a lot of the variants in failure that causes this problem. At the top of the page you are reading, there should be links like "Forum Home » Database » Database - General". The middle one will get you to a list of all Oracle forums and after the first 5, the rest are alphabetical - XE is pretty far down that page.
    (You might also note that there is an Installation forum next to this one. That might be better suited to the task than the 'catch-all' general forum.)
    The most common issues are related to not preparing the operating system properly. For example, if you use a laptop you probably use DHCP to get a different address from the various sites you connect to. However, Oracle works as a server and depends on having a well known address. In fact, it tends to bind the IP address at install into it's configuration files. Therefore it is critical to use the loopback adapter in such situations.
    Other issues are dependent on the actual OS into which you install. For example, Ubuntu (Linux) has very differnet install philosophy as Red Hat / Fedora, and requires a different install technique. Then again, on Windows, it is nearly impossible to install anything Oracle on a Windows 'Home' OS, and XE generally has not even been tested against Windows 7.
    Other common reasons include anti-virus; firewall; not having appropriate operating system level permissions; in Windows - using a Domain-based userid instead of a local administrator; and just general finger issues.
    Express is considerably different in the install behaviour and runtime behaviour. For example. it uses RPM and MSI instead of Oracle Universal Installer. It does not include Java in the database, which limits a lot of functionality. And it uses the built-in PL/SQL Web Gateway instead of any external HTTP server. As a result, it can be quite a shock to mmany of the regular inhabitants in this forum.
    I strongly encourage reading the documentation for XE. In particular, reading the install doc. Start at http://tahiti.oracle.com and look for the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Express Edition documentation. (Just below the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 documentation.)

  • Database link and remote connection issues..

    We have a sql script... Large script that we would rather not post here. The script connects through a dblink to a remote site at the beginning and gets thousands of records. We then process these records locally which takes around 40 minutes. The link is unused for that time. Then the same script attempts to connect again through the dblink and set a confiirmation flag. But this final confirmation step routinely fails. The script used to work fine when the confirmation was at the beginning of the script.
    My understanding is that when you go out through a dblink it creates a session on the remote computer. The session stays active until the local proc ends or the session times out. Successive calls through the dblink from the same proc will reuse the same remote session? Is this true?
    So, Is the inactivity period possibly causing this dblink connectivity issue? We put some test sql select statements in the script here and there selecting from dual at the remote site to test the link inbetween major proc calls. Sometimes even these fail. What do I have to do to keep this link active? Is this even my issue?
    Like I said this script worked fine when the confirmation piece was at the beginning right before we start downloading files and basically no inactivity period... Now we download files and confirm at the end with a 40min to 2 hour inactivity between.
    The remote site as well as the network claim that they are not dropping us... The only piece of information I can provide is that on our side SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME = 10 and on there side SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME = 0. I've read that others solved this issue by manipulating this value.
    Here are some of the errror message we get in our script...

  • Are there touch response issues on Air 2 or iOS 8

    Ever since I got my Air 2 (on day of release) it has seemed to have slow response to touch.  Now, I did not notice any issue with touch response while setting up the device.  But obviously that is a very limited time frame for testing something I didn't know I should pay attention.  But it seems like my new Air 2 is being particularly sluggish to touch response all across the board and in all apps.  And I thought the Air 2 was supposed to have even better touch sensitivity than previous iDevices.  Or could this may be an issue with iOS 8 or later.  Obviously no way to test an Air 2 on and earlier iOS.
    I know one thing I could try is to setup the Air 2 as a new device.  (I did setup the device from a backup originally).  But I really don't think I should have to lose all my settings and manually setup hundreds of apps to have a properly working new iPad.
    Anyone else having this issue.  I have seen a few message boards on other sites that suggest other are running into similar problems.
    Ryan
    EDIT ADDITION:  I also have noticed from time to time that Safari will not allow clicking on Google links.  I have to rotate the device and then rotate it back to get a response to google links.  Thought I should add that.
    iPad Air 2
    64Gb
    Model MH182LL/A
    iOS Ver: 8.1 (12B410)

    I experience the same problems: especially in safari-websites where you can flick through pics. But als on sites where there are action buttons or tapping the X to terminate popup screens
    Did everything: reset settings, complete factory reset (several times). Went to the apple store in the end. There they completely reinstalled the software.
    Unfortunately this didn't resolve these more than annoying touch issues!! Strange thing is that my new ipad mini 3 has exact the same problems. It is most noticeable on safari website where you can scroll through pictures by tapping on eihter site of the pic. It works for a few pics, but then the screen freezes. Even in such a way you can't scroll the screen anymore.
    The air 2 is fast and looks/feels great, but this touch issue makes it an almost impossible tablet! I'm an apple addict, so I trust Apple wil fix this.
    I run ios 8.1.2 on both the Air 2 en Mini 3. Done all the reset options and have the software reinstalled by Apple in the apple store.
    Has anyone have any suggestions??

  • "bad server response" issue

    Hello,
    This PC guy recently switched to a mac and I'm loving it so far.
    I was using MS MOney and upon the advice of many I am experimenting with moneydance. When I tried to download my qif file from my bank I am receiving the "bad server response" error. I tried downloading the same file on my pc and it works fine.
    I've done some searches on the boards and it sounds like this my be a safari related issue. What I haven't found is the way around it.
    Any advice about how to clear this up so I may downloaded the needed files?
    Thanks.

    You're welcome.
    Unfortunately, we still live in a Windows-centric world where some cites are developed with IE for Windows in mind without considering other browsers, especially on the Mac platform.
    For that reason I think it's a good idea on the Mac platform to have an alternate browser. While I find Safari quite good for most sites, there are instances where a site's coding does not adhere to the same WebKit Standards used by Safari.
    Here's the other Mac Browsers I have tried and found useful (Firefox is my favorite):
    Camino,
    Mozilla,
    Opera,
    Shiira
    Haven't tried:
    OmniWeb (shareware).
    I excluded Netscape because I don't like it - never did.
    Another suggestion is to contact the financial site inquiring about Safari compatibility.
    Regarding the PDF, it may be how the site is coded. I rarely have problems viewing/downloading PDF's via Safari.

    Hi Pankaj,
    It seems this concern is related to Mail configuration and Mail message templates.
    Please check once in the standard "RFx Invite" Mail message template. You will find the details mentioned below;
    TO CONFIRM PARTICIPATION, follow these steps:
    1. Click on this link %DOCUMENT_HEADER_URL%.
    2. Enter your username and password (previously emailed to you).
    3. Click Log On.
    4. Click on the Proposal ID link located in the Proposals section of the page.
    EXISTS(RFX_INTEND_TO_RESPOND_DATE,"5. Click on the 'Intend to Respond' choice to indicate to %COMPANY_NAME% that you will participate in this RFx.")
    TO DECLINE PARTICIPATION, follow these steps:
    1. Click on this link %DOCUMENT_HEADER_URL%.
    2. Enter your username and password (previously emailed to you).
    3. Click Log On.
    4. Click on the Proposal ID link located in the Proposals section of the page.
    EXISTS(RFX_INTEND_TO_RESPOND_DATE,"5. Click on the 'Decline to Participate' choice to indicate to %COMPANY_NAME% that you have chosen to not participate in this RFx.", "5. Click on the 'In Progress' button and choose the 'Declined' phase then click OK to indicate to %COMPANY_NAME% that you have chosen to not participate in this RFx.")
    You can create a new mail message type (don't modify the existing one) and provide the desired structure.I think you might be using another mail template with different structure.
    FInally associate the same with the mail configuration. I hope this might help.
