Database behaviour after Windows XP resumes from "Hibernation"

I am considering the following power failure handling model:
1. Connect an APC UPS to PC;
2. Configure "PowerChute" and PC so to "hibernate" the PC in case of power failure on the mains;
3. Do NOT shutdown the Oracle DB before the hibernation.
4. Let the Oracle DB resumes from hibernation. No need to shutdown / startup the database instance.
Are the Oacle DB designed to work properly after resuming from Windows XP hibernation? Any documentation mentioning this scenario? I've do article hunting but in vain.
Thanks.
Kenny

I haven't seen any documentation about this and I don't think I would plan for a production environment that has hibernation enabled but I hibernate my laptop all the time. I've nver had a problem with XE working after I resumed.
Normally, TOAD and/or SQL Developer will lose their connection. But that makes sense.
Thanks,
LewisC

    Hello,
For the last months, I repeatedly have the problem that sometimes (every 2nd or 3rd time) after resuming from hibernation, in a few cases also after disconnecting from the Internet, one or more instances of explorer.exe are consuming 100% CPU, but never

I tried figuring out what it was doing, but I was unsuccessful so far.

I you have any clue what might be going, I would be very happy to hear it. It's really annoying, as I have to kill explorer.exe and thereby close all my folder windows when this happens.
    Thank you!
    Best regards,
    David Trapp

    Hello,
thanks for having a look. However, I already ran SFC before posting on this forum (as part of my own investigation) and it came back clean. RescueTime (a time tracking tool) is probably not the culprit because it happened also several times in the past without
RescueTime being running (that was because I had accidentally removed it from autorun at that time).
Unfortunately, I can't follow your "invalid date" explanation. I don't think an "invalid date" is anywhere involved; in fact, the method in question is called "_TreeInvalidateItemInfo" and not "_TreeInvalidDateItemInfo"
(note that there is only one "d"), so I assume its job is just to invalidate (and in turn, refresh) the cached information about nodes in the left pane's folder tree of the explorer window(s) - since the folder tree is the only NamespaceTreeControl
(whose corresponding class name is CNscTree) in explorer folder view windows. As I see it, something is causing explorer to repeatedly refresh the folder tree data, but I am stuck at finding out what exactly.
    Best regards,
    David Trapp
EDIT: Disassembling ExplorerFrame!CNscTree::_TreeInvalidateItemInfo confirms that, because it seems to call TreeView_SetItem for a tree node and its parent (possibly with all fields set to *_CALLBACK), and CNscTree::_UpdateItemDisplayInfo
    for the parent node.
EDIT2: I'd love to dig more into the trace, however I am hitting a wall at function names/addresses. Everywhere where I would expect a function name/address (such as the "by stack" views), I only see question marks instead. What
    could be the reason?

  • Firefox hangs after resume from hibernation

The problem is basically exactly like described here, only the solution presented there does not actually work for me:
    http://askubuntu.com/questions/59062/a-script-on-this-page-may-be-busy-or-it-may-have-stopped-responding-everytime
What happens is that every time I hibernate my laptop (with Windows 7 Pro, 64bit), when I resume from hibernation, FF is completely unresponsive (hangs) for minutes. Easily around 5 minutes. Eventually a dialog box pops up with the following:
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete."
And the two buttons are: "stop script" or "continue". After I click "stop script" the unresponsiveness finally goes away, and FF starts working normally again.
I think possibly even clicking "continue" also makes it go back to normal, but I'm not sure anymore since I have recently just switched to sleep mode out of frustration in order to not deal with it anymore, and I don't remember exactly if I get the same result from clicking either option.
    This is extremely frustrating.
Someone else reported an extremely similar symptom here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/935110?esab=a&as=aaq
It might even be the exact same symptom. Maybe that person simply never waited long enough for the dialog box to appear, but otherwise the unusability symptoms are the same.

Ok so I finally got around to testing this thoroughly, as you suggested. I used FF in SafeMode for about 2 days now, and went through at least half a dozen hibernation/resume cycles. Probably closer to 10. I can conclude that using safe mode (aka restarting with all add-ons disabled) did not solve it at all. The issue remains.
As always, simply resetting FF (either with enabled or disabled addons) seems to make this problem less severe, if not almost go away completely. But after a few hibernate/resume cycles, it becomes really bad. Before posting this, I was using Opera for like 10 minutes after resuming from hibernation before FF finally snapped out of it, and windows that I had clicked on in the task bar, like 10 minutes ago, finally popped up.
I have not yet tested the disabling hardware acceleration. Sounds quite doubtful that it might help but I'll try.
How can we get the developers' attention on this?
33 others report having this problem (as of this post). And there are similar reports elsewhere. But after many new versions of FF, it seems that the developers are not addressing these bugs but are instead focused on new features to compete with whatever Chrome rolls out.
    Thanks!

  • Big slowdown (hang-up actually) after resuming from hibernation (T61 & Win7)

    Hi
Recently I have noticed, that my machine is someteimes slowed down after resuming from hibernation on Windows 7 and I can't do anything. I wait one minute, two... but nothing happens. Even mouse cursor isn't moving smooth. Pressing ctrl+alt+del causes that "preparing security options..." screen appears but nothing more... So I can't run task manager. Only thing I can do is powering down & booting again laptop so actually I can say that my machine hangs up after resuming from hibernation.
I don't know if this is important, but always when it happend I was resuming system without AC connected and noticed that fan is not working.
    edit:
today it happend again. I conncected AC but it didn't help. I have noticed, that when system is in this 'near hang-up' state - plugging usb mouse doesn't even cause mouse sensor to light.
    Any ideas what's going on?
    T61 7664-R6G core 2 duo 2.1ghz, 2gb ram, windows 7 32 bit (latest updates and drivers installed).

Are you by any chance removing a LAN cable while in hibernation?
    I have a similar problem with my T61 7663-13G, Windows 7 x64 and Standby.
(Could eliminate my Minidocks and power supplies IMHO.)
But it seems like if I remove the network cable while in standby Win 7 will hang after the still successful login.
(hang = I can let the cursor jump inch by inch, but nothing else is responding.)
    - Update:
Changed the driver from my wired network card from 9.13.16.0 to 9.13.41.0 and can't reproduce my hang-ups atm.

  • Problems after resuming from hibernation

I’ve been getting horizontal lines and sound distortion after resuming from hibernation. Has anyone had similar problems or found a solution for this yet? I’m on Lion OS X 10.7.3.

Rorschach wrote:What freezes? Just X or the whole kernel? Can you ssh to your machine?
Now it doesn't freeze anymore. I really don't know what the heck is going on on my machine.
Next time that the machine freezes I'll try to ssh to it. Thank you for pointing this out.

That's probably BIOS bug, have a ask MSI here: http://ocss.msi.com.tw/ They can send you a new BIOS to try.
I supposed that this issue is caused by BIOS bug, and this speculation was confirmed. MSI Support has sent to me link with BIOS version 132, which solves the problem
Under this link you can find this BIOS: http://rapidshare.com/files/127845890/a7395ims.132.zip.html

  • T400 Stuck at 800MHz after resume from Hibernation

This evening, my T400's processor speed was stuck at 800MHz after resuming from hibernation. Machine was plugged in. Power manager processor speed settings were not set to lowest performance. Even running processes that put the CPU at 100%, the machine stayed clocked at 800MHz. All drivers, BIOS, etc. are updated to the most recent version.
Eventually, I shut down the machine, and then started it back up. Everything was fine.
Does anyone have any suggestions to prevent this from happening again?

Hello everyone, I observed a new correlation: last time when my touchpad was recognized as "PS/2 ALPS DualPoint TouchPad" (instead of "PS/2 Generic Mouse") happend *after resuming from hibernation*, and also with the concomitant phenomenon of having no sound after resuming. (Sorry for the oversophisticated language, I have just had a philosophy of mind exam ) After this I hibernated the laptop again and resumed, and I *had* sound, but had the touchpad recognized as "PS/2 Generic Mouse", so it seems that I am lucky with the touchpad just when I am unlucky with sound. And, as far as I remember, the earlier occasions when I was lucky with the touchpad were also after resuming from hibernation. So it seems that something else than psmouse sometimes fails to restart after the hibernation, and this is what causes psmouse to work as expected! I am not an expert in kernel, so could someone help me, what to look for? An obvious guess would be sound-related modules, but it would be really weird if they had anything to do with the touchpad, so for now I don't start to learn how sound is handled in Linux (it looks like a lot to learn...)

Since I updated yesterday, I have the latest versions of all packages (note that xf86-video-intel is still 2.99.916-3, it hasn't been updated). I run linux-lts 3.14.21-1 (because of other hibernation issues with linux >.<).
    Other useful information:
I used UXA for xf86-video-intel, but switching to SNA doesn't solve the problem.
I tried downgrading Firefox to 32.3 and gtk2 to 2.24.24, same problem.

Update: actually this has nothing to do with i915 (I can see the issue earlier in the journal), and after hours of downgrading/reupgrading madness the problem just disappeared... It was probably a bug of Firefox because of the number of tabs opened in the same time or something like that... Maybe related to a website in particular, since I saw some libmozalloc segfault in the log. Anyway, topic invalidated.

  • Resuming from hibernation takes long long time

    Hey:
I have installing the database in my laptop. Now when I resume the laptop from hibernation, in the taskmanager I see the task oracle.exe that is making something (memory usage) for three or four minutes until it stops. It did not happened with other versions of oracle database.
I was thinking in installing this free version in several laptops, but with these times in resuming I think it is not a good election.
Somebody may tell me what is making oracle.exe during resuming from hibernation?
Is it posible to avoid this behavior?

I know it cannot unflatten it and I want it to return an error. My actual code can receive a flattened or NOT flattened string and I have a case structure which handles different strings differently.
Be careful with that terminology, it only applies to the Windows Operating System with respect to 32-bit and 64-bit processors.  There is no such thing as LabVIEW x64, or LabVIEW x86.  The property terminology is LabVIEW 32-bit (the most common one, most people use, even on 64-bit OS's since it is the most fully supported), and LabVIEW 64-bit (not commonly used, doesn't have full support of all add-on modules and toolkits, and is mainly only used by people who need LabVIEW to analyze very large datasets.)

  • Trouble resuming from hibernation (systemd / systemctl)

Since a few weeks back I have trouble resuming from hibernation on my Samsung NC10 netbook. I go into hibernation with 'systemctl hibernate' and everything is fine, but when i resume the computer it returns to were I was before for a couple of seconds (between 5-10) and then it hibernates again. My only option is to start a terminal during those seconds and type reboot. Any tips on how to start troubleshooting this and find out what is causing the system to go hibernating again after resuming.
Edit: Realized I posted this in the wrong section, please move thread to 'Laptop issues'

Ok, sorry, I guess I'm in the wrong section for this.
I just removed the grub and the kernel hooks and my session (for example an unsaved document) is still being recovered after reboot. I normally close all my windows before shutting down, so I didn't realize this until now.

  • X301 - Fail to resume from hibernation

    Hello,
this failure to resume from hibernation mode is actually the only problem I have encountered so far but it does actually annoy me. The BIOS-Update or this (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70477.html) update did not help either.
Do you need any more specifications?
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your effort!

I have the same problem too. Almost the system fails to resume from sleep mode everytime. I changed my power setting, when I close lid, it will go to hibenation mode, but the situation does not become much better. It is really annoying. I lost my current session, if I forget to shut down my system, before I close the lid.
This problem did not happen so frequently, until I updated the audio driver and turbo memory driver on aug. 30. The dear Thinkpad team, could you take a deeper investigation and make a solution for us?
In windows event logger, I find the following error message:
Description: The last sleep transition was unsuccessful. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, failed, or lost power during the sleep transition.
    Source: Kernel Power
    Level: Critical
If you need further information, I will be cooperated.

  • Resuming from hibernation, no gataway set.

    Hello.
I have a problem when resuming from hibernation. When I resume, i have no gateway set. I have to write "route add default wg ..." every time when I resume. How can I solve that?
    Regards.

I have been having the same problem.  What I have found so far is if the power source changes between going into hibernation and when you try to power it up again I will see it reenter hibernation.  For example, if I'm running on battery and put it into hibernation, plug the computer into AC power and then try to resume it will resume and then almost immediately return to hibernation.  I have to pull the AC power cord out of the laptop, resume and then after it has reached its normal state then reattach the power cord.

  • Office 2013 - Word cannot establish a connection with this document after the system resumed from suspend mode

    Hiya!
This issue has been answered numerous times for Office 2010 and Office 2007, but I have yet to any solutions or Hotfixes that work for Office 2013 (x64) on Win7.
    How to replicate the issue:
Open a file from a network share.
    Edit file.
Leave computer on with file open. Computer goes to sleep or into stand-by mode.
    Wait a bit
    Wake up computer
CPU opens file in Read-Only mode and gives you the following error "Word cannot establish a network connection with this document after the system resumed from suspend mode. Save the document into a different file to keep any changes."
    What I've tried:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2434898 - Office 2007 registry fixes. Does not apply.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2413659 - Office 2010 problem. This exact issue. Says 'No microsoft products that match this hotfix are installed'
    Work Around:
I can saving new versions of these files overrides this issue, but this is sometimes not possible for end-users who only have specific access to ONE SPECIFIC FILE in a particular network share.
Please let me know how I can alleviate this issue!
    Thanks
    -Chris

    Hi,
Are those problematic documents created via previous versions of Office?
Please also try to run a repair of your Office 2013 installtion and check if it helps. See:

  • ITunes manually added artwork is missing after Windows Easy Transfer from XP to Windows-7. Please help!

After a Windows Easy Transfer from a Windows XP pc to a new Windows-7 pc, all the iTunes artwork that I had previously manually added is now missing. I estimate 25-30% of my CDs needed manual intervention to add artwork. Some of these were album covers I found on the web but many are photos that I took and cropped but have not retained. I have nearly 20,000 songs. Every one had artwork on my XP machine. Now on Windows-7 it appears to be missing. I spent many patient hours to get artwork in place for all my music and don't want to loose it or have to repeat the process. Please help! Many thanks for any contributions.

  • Windows 10 Resume from Sleep Very Slow

Completed the upgrade to Windows 10. Machine is now very slow to wake from sleep. Full resume takes about 2 minutes. When resume starts, touchpad lights up but screen stays black. It seems that the machine is going through some type of process that takes long. I noticed that the graphics drivers for AMD were updated. I tried to reinstall the old AMD drivers but the install failed. Could the graphics drivers be causing the problem? What other drivers that might have been updated could cause the problem?

Later news! The problem driver was the AMD Radeon 6700M series ver 15.200.1062.1003. The slow resume from sleep and similar delay in startup was resolved by disabling ULPS.  See this URL in the AMD community forum https://community.amd.com/thread/184727
