Database Client licening for Oracle XE

Hello,
When I mention Database Client, not instant client. Everything I have read says that the Database client, is tied to the Database License. But nothing spells out how that is with Oracle XE. Oracle XE seams to be licensed by CPU, because you are only allowed one. There is a specific feature in the Database Client that I would like to use.
I have been trying to get an answer to this from Oracle Licensing and they have not been getting back to me. I think its because I am a small startup with little to no money.
Is there a separate license needed to distribute the Oracle Database Client with Oracle XE? Is there an example anyone can share?
Thanks

XE doesn't have hard limit on how many users. Actually your question is not clear, are you asking for limit of how many users you can create or how many users can connect concurrently.
If first, there's no limit. If second it's only limited by the resources especially memory like other user demonstrated.
also you need to check parameter processes and sessions, these parameter will limit how many process/session can connect to database.

  • Client files for Oracle 8.1.6

Hi folks ... Where can I download the client files for Oracle 8.1.6 ... We are running Oracle on a sun box and my development environment runs on nt and am using WebLogic Server 6.0 ...
    Thanks for the help!

If you go to "Software", you can download the full product (i.e. 8i EE). On install, you'll be presented with the option to do a full install (client + database) or a client-only install. You'll want to choose the client-only install.

  • "In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition

    Hi,
In one of our applications, we are using TimesTen 5.1.24 and Oracle 9i
    databases (platform - Solaris 9i).
TimesTen holds application information which needs to be accessed quickly
and Oracle 9i is a master application database.
Now we are looking at an option of migrating from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g
database. While exploring about Oracle 10g features, came to know about
"In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle Enterprise Edition. This made
me to think about using Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition with "In-Memory
Database Cache" option for our application.
Following are the advantages that I could visualize by adopting the
    above-mentioned approach:
    1. Data reconciliation between Oracle and TimesTen is not required (i.e.
data can be maintained only in Oracle tables and for caching "In-Memory
    Database Cache" can be used)
    2. Data maintenance is easy and gives one view access to data
I have following queries regarding the above-mentioned solution:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
In "Options and Packs" chapter in Oracle documentation
    (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/options.htm
#CIHJJBGA), I encountered the following statement:
"For the purposes of licensing Oracle In-Memory Database Cache, only the
processors on which the TimesTen In-Memory Database component of the
In-Memory Database Cache software is installed and/or running are counted
for the purpose of determining the number of licenses required."
We have servers with the following configuration. Is there a way to get the
count of processors on which the Cache software could be installed and/or
    running? Please assist.
Production box with 12 core 2 duo processors (24 cores)
Pre-production box with 8 core 2 duo processors (16 cores)
Development and test box with 2 single chip processors
Development and test box with 4 single chip processors
Development and test box with 6 single chip processors
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay,
    regarding your questions:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    ==> Seperate Installation
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    ==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
    This explains the differences.
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
==> Please see above mentioned papers
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
    ==> Again ... ;-)
    Kind regards

AFAIK as Oracle 9i is unsupported, I don't belive that I can find this course available anywhere. So my question is: "Is there any equivalent for above course for 10g/11g?"

Yes, those are excellent materials. A lot of the material is covered in the DBA 1 & 2 courses, but not as focused and not as 'in depth'. I encourage that you write directly to Oracle University and ask them to upgrade the seminar. (Tell them I'd be happy to update/deliver it. ;-))

  • Is Database Sync. only for Oracle?

The subject question might be too simple for most of you, but just would like to comfirm.
If I were to sync. with a MS SQL Server, I would have to export to a CSV file and use a Universal Connector. Is that the right way?
    Thanks a lot.

Hello, there's no official support for Oracle 9.x in Meta-Directory 5.1
HOWEVER, Oracle claim that the OCI client that comes with 817 is compatible with Oracle 9.2
We have tried this in our labs and it appears to work just fine. One catch is the SQL scripts that the console creates require modification. the errors are fairly obvious if you execute the sql script line by line using SQL*Plus that comes with 9i. Basically there's a different rollback segment strategy that's default enabled in 9.2 so the meta scripts try and create a manual rollback segment.
We have customers who have deployed Meta 5.0/5.1 with Oracle 9.2, you need to check with your Support Representive/Sales to officially deploy this scenario.

  • Can not find client Software for Oracle Database R2

    Dear all,
I dowload a Oracle Database R2,I have install the database in my computer.but I can't find the client software from the dowload file.
which folder include the client software?
    Thanks you

WHat exactly are you trying to accomplish? And what have you installed? And what is your operating system? (I assume Windows, as generally only Windows users keep the rest of us guessing at the operating system.)
WHen you install Oracle on your computer using the Oracle Universal Installer, you have the option of installing database, custom, etc.
Installing the database gives you the client software on the computer. You can then run various clients including the main one Oracle delivers - SQLPlus.
Or you can install the Client only.
All will be in the folders under the ORACLE_HOME that you specify during install. And many of the clients will be in ORACLE_HOME?bin

  • Minimun database version required for oracle application 12.1.3

We are palnning to upgrade from our current applications version 12.0.4 to 12.1.3
We understand it will done in 2 phases ie 12.0.4 - 12.1.1 and 12.1.1 to 12.1.3
but our current database version is 10.2.0.4
My question here is can we upgrade applications to 12.1.3 without upgrading database?
or shall we upgarde atleast to 10.2.0.5 first and then proceed with applications upgrade and then plan for database upgrade to 11g release 2 later.
Please suggest me with proper approach. To upgrade my current environment with oracle application 12.0.4 with database 10.2.0.4 to oracle apllications 12.1.3
    Thanks in advance
    pavan

We infact are upgrading even our database to 11.2.0.3, but database upgrade will be done by other organisation as our client has outsoursed database support to other organisation.
We have to do only application upgrade from 12.0.4 to 12.1.3, however we have access to database to upgrade it to 10.2.0.5 if required, So my question here is can we proceed upgrading application to 12.1.3 without upgrading the database. (can i use 10.2.0.4 database with 12.1.3)Please see your other thread, I have already answered you.
    Thanks,

  • Instant client support for oracle rac ?

My questions is does instant client support rac ?
    example : tnsnames.ora
    RAC =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = DB1-VIP)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = DB2-VIP)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = RAC)
    (FAILOVER_MODE =
    (TYPE = SELECT)
    (METHOD = BASIC)
    (RETRIES = 180)
    (DELAY = 5)
    )

If you are asking if Instant Client can connect to a RAC cluster, the answer is yes. There is no functional difference between a full client and Instant Client. I hope that helps!

  • Can I use regular Oracle Client version with Oracle XE Database?

Should it work? Should it be legal or not?

The regular Oracle client is only for those who have a "licensed" Oracle database server. For Oracle XE, it is NOT ok to use the full Oracle client. However, you can use the instant client against Oracle XE. Problem is that client utilities such as sqlldr won't be available in the instant client. Another option will be (if you are using linux) is to mount the Oracle XE installation directory to other machines as your client. Unfortunately the standalone XE client is not that useful given that it only includes sqlplus (which is why I recommend using instant client instead).

  • Database client is must for GG??

    Hi All,
Is Database client necessary for installing Oracle Goldengate?
Im going to configure GG in the same server where database is running.
    Thanks,
    Harry

All of the GoldenGate builds require database client software to be at least installed -- even if GoldenGate isn't connecting to a database -- except the version of GoldenGate that comes with the OGG Java or flat-file adapter. The adapters come bundled with a version of GoldenGate core called a "generic" (no-database) GoldenGate, which has no runtime dependencies on any database client. All the other database-enabled versions of GoldenGate (GG for DB2, GG for MySQL, GG for Oracle, etc) won't even be able to start "ggsci" or "extract", simply because the DB client runtime library dependencies are missing. This implies that the LD_LIBRARY_PATH (or, on Windows, PATH) needs to be correctly configured in order to run any version of GG that has database functionality -- even when you aren't using the database functionality.
If you have GG installed and it is just acting as a pass-thru pump (no transformations, mapping, user-exits, etc) -- then there's no reason for GG to access any database, since there's no need for metadata. A "generic" build of GG would be able to do this, but then so could any build of GG (as long as you have the DB client software installed... btw, Oracle instant client is useful for this.) And, btw, it's worth mentioning that the flat-file & Java adapter (for Java targets) can be plugged into any build of GoldenGate; they don't have to run in the "generic" no-database version of GG. (The JMS capture is the only component that requires the no-DB generic GG.)
If you have some mapping or transformations going on, then it's possible to use a "source-definitions" file instead of connecting back to the source datatabase for metadata. <ul>
<li> The downside of connecting back to the source-database for metadata is that the trail data may be from several minutes ago (or several hours ago -- or for test data, even weeks or months ago) -- so the metadata is out-of-sync with the trail data. Trail data is meaningless without correct & current metadata.
<li> The downside of source-def files is that they have to be updated whenever you update your DDL. (Source-defs files describe the trail data -- just like DDL does, but source-def's are GG's database-neutral metadata file format. These are generated via "defgen" on the source database.)
<li> if capturing DDL (only possible in like-to-like scenarios for Oracle-to-Oracle), then you won't be using source-def files. </ul>
(That was probably more detail than necessary ... : - ))
    Hope it helps,

This blog post provides a suggested methodology for helping users of VMware vROps/vCOps decide which of the existing solutions, the vROps Management Pack for Oracle EM and the VMware vROps Hyperic Plugins for Oracle, should be used to monitor their Oracle workloads.
It’s been a nearly a year since VMware transferred the vCOps Adapter for Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) to Blue Medora and since that transfer Blue Medora has released a number of major updates as well as rebranded it the Blue Medora vROps Management Pack for Oracle EM. Over that same period of time VMware has continued to evolve their Oracle-focused (Oracle Database and WebLogic J2EE) Hyperic agent-based plugins culminating most recently with a October 2014 update to the Oracle Database plugin that provides support for Oracle Database 12c.
