Database connection via ftp

I only have FTP access to a server that runs JSPs.
Is there any way to get a database connection without physically going to the server?

Correct.
The dsn will be provided by administrator of ur server.
Call him. He might have given u a list of parameters.
Check it. It must be there.
Bye,
Samir

I still have problems with getting my website online. I have defined my server. Then I did the test and there was a connection via FTP. I put my files on the external server and there is a connection with the external server. But when I check to see my website online (with Firefox, Explorer, Chrome browser) I always get the message 'Forbidden, You don't have permission to access / on this server.' Can somebody help me please? I have to get my website online..Thank you!

    Hello Els,
it's well known, that in all these cases you describe I'm not a friend of a detailed Troubleshooting (I see Nancy#s smile already).
To be able to be independent in all this things It is one of the reasons why I prefer an external FTP program. The difficulties with which you have to fight encourage me in this opinion, not least because we always search for experts, we don't charge a "jack of all trades".
To manage several websites or to upload my files and sometimes for the opposite way, for a necessary download from my server or to use a "a site-wide synch", I'm using FileZilla. It simply looks easier for me to keep track of all operations precisely and generate or reflect easily the desired tree structure.
Above all, FileZilla has a feature (translation from my German FileZilla) called "compare file list". Here it's possible to use file size or modification time as a criterion. There is also the possibility to "hide identical files", so that only these files which you want to redact remain visible.
And even if it means you have to install a new program, I am convinced that there is an advantage. Here is the link to get it and where you can read informations about how it works:
    http://filezilla-project.org/ and http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Tutorial#Using_the_site_manager
Mac: Mac OS X (Use: Show additional download options)
    http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
Of course, you also need all the access data to reach your server and for MIME issues, you should contact your web host/provider.
    Good luck!

    P.S.
Since I use two screens, the whole thing became even more comfortable.

  • Connecting via FTP

    Hello,
Recently I have started to struggle to connect to a particular server (we'll call it S1 for the purpose of this post)  via FTP. I was able to connect earlier in the week (Tuesday) however, but when I came to try on Saturday afternoon it kept failing.
I am able to connect to other FTP servers perfectly, but when I try and connect to S1 it tells me my details are incorrect. It appears to be getting to the server but rejecting the log in info - which I can confirm are correct.
I connected my hosting company who tried to assist me. My IP address was added to their safelist but I was still unable to connect. I also tried another computer to make sure it wasn't my apple Mac, but that failed to connect with the same error.
I took my computer to my girlfriend's house and using her Vodafone broadband and the same details and I managed to connect instantly - narrowing the problem down to my home network.
I temporarily disabled the firewall on my home hub but still no luck. I then disabled the firewall on my Mac as well but it failed to connect - still rejecting the password.
I have now run out of ideas as I cannot think what else it would be!
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks in advance

  • FileMaker database connection via Internet

I want to be able to connect to a FileMaker Pro database that I can keep on a Mac connected to an AirPort Express. The AirPort is connected via Ethernet cable to a Hughes HN7000S satellite modem (my only Internet connection). Can another Mac using another Hughes satellite modem connect to the server Mac? The idea is to exchange data from that single database so the files on both computers can stay synchronized.
Do I need Remote Desktop to accomplish this?

Do I need Remote Desktop to accomplish this?
No. ARD is for remote control, observe and management of netwoked Macs. It does not do file synchronization.

  • Sharepoints not displayed when connecting via FTP

    Hi All,

I have an issue with the built in FTP server.
All my share point are set to be shared via FTP, yet they are not displayed when users log in and access the server via FTP.
In Server Admin, Authenticated users see: FTP Root and Share Points.
All relevant users have access to the FTP service, in the server settings.
ACL permissions have been set correctly for those users.
This is *sudo sharing -l* tells me, for all share points.

    Hi,
    Sorry for the late respons.
    My config:
1 mac mini with OSX Server leopard
    1 airport extreem
    1 external HDD LaCie
An airport Extreme has the posibility to share a network drive. So I plugged in my HDD into the airport extreme and configured the thing.
Than I turned to the mac mini. And started configuring my sharepoints.
So one of my sharepoints is the external HDD.
There are several directories on there that I want to make available thru the legacy protocol FTP.
So by just making these sharepoints available thru FTP i expected for these sharepoint to show up in mij directories if I connect to my external IP with a FTP client like CyberDuck.
(portforwarding and everything is not the problem, because I can make a connections and all directories show up as browseable.
But the sharepoint I made on the network drive just show up as an bin or another kind off file I can't open.
    Everything else is browsable..
They show up by the way in the root dir of the FTP Server as regular symbolic links.
Thru Finder I can browse them and do everything. But as soon as i connect over the internet, lan or whatever, these symbolic links are not the access point towards the directory underneath.
They show up with the correct name just not as an dir I can open.
    Hope this helps

  • Problem with AppleWorks documents when connecting via ftp to my server

When I connect over the internet using ftp to my mac mini server (using OS X server 10.4.10) from my iMac G4 (using 10.4.10) all my AppleWork docs will only appear as .bin instead of .cwk.
If I download one to my G4, it will try to open using stuffit expander but cannot be opened. It comes up with “An error ocurred attempting to expand name.bin unspecified Stuffit Engine internal error” Error #17999
However Microsoft Word docs show correctly and can be downloaded and opened without problem.
When I try directly on the server or try from any computer on the local network conected to the server, everthing views correctly and can be opened.
Could it be to do with any settings on the server when connecting by ftp.
    Thanks for the help.

One problem still remains that when I download minicad files (which uses OS 9) they show up as .exe and will not open or recognisable by the programme
I imagine the file is transferring without a suffix and your computer is trying to guess what it is; hence the .exe. Delete this and append the suffix for the correct program and it should open (or use File>Open within the program).

  • How to obtain database connection via PL/SQL

    Dear friends,
I need to obtain the database name where user is connected - using PL/SQL. That is, if I type "select user from dual" I obtain the connected user; is there some similar way for me to obtain database connection?
    Thanks, and best regards,
    Franklin

    SELECT sys_context('USERENV', 'DB_NAME') FROM dual;
    SELECT sys_context('USERENV', 'INSTANCE') FROM dual;
You can choose whichever you want to use. :-)
Instace parameter will give you INSTANCE_ID (matches with GV$INSTANCE) so not that much useful I guess.

  • Settings correct but can't connect via ftp in DW

    Hello,
My client just downgraded from an advanced hosting package to a standard hosting package at network solutions.
I can not connect to the server using ftp in dreamweaver. I have called the host and verified all of the connection information ad nauseum
with no success.. I am using Adobe CS3. Network Solutions insists that it is a DW problem which I doubt because Network Solutions
is the only host that I ever seem to have a problem with..
But the person there insisted that It is a DW problem because I was able to connect (using the username and pw) through a browser.
Has anyone ever had a problem such as this with Dreamweaver. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Your help would be most appreciated.
    thank you.
    Elizabeth

I have experienced some problems with DW's FTP feature through several versions of DW and several different hosts. My general conclusion is that it works well with some FTP server configurations and not with others. IMHO, it IS DW's implementation since in every case, I can transfer files with other FTP programs. I have never bothered to try to troubleshoot it down to the minute differences between servers, though.
I prefer using an external FTP program anyway (not a Web browser). In fact, when I first started using DW, I preferred the OS's built-in command line FTP client. There are many FTP client programs available for all operating systems and priced from free to enterprise level. My preferred is WS_FTP Pro (Windows), but I've heard good things about CuteFTP, FileZilla, and others.
So I guess that's my suggestion. Use an external program when DW doesn't work.

  • How can FTP users access my NAS system via FTP client?

I recently purchased a 2 bay, 4TB Buffalo Link Station DUO in order to solve some FTP issues.  I have about 50 users outside my LAN that need to connect drop files on my NAS, however nobody seems able to connect via FTP client.  If they login using the Web Access Dynamic DNS address they can read and write via their web browser, but it's clunky and slow.
My NAS system has been given the IP adress of 192.168.1.254 which seem to me that it's a local IP adress, not a public/static IP. Do I need to manually assign an IP adress to my NAS system in order fot users to log into that specific IP and go directly to the shared folders on the NAS system?
    Thanks in advance!

Your NAS is getting that IP because it is behind your Router, which is the normal way to use it and as it should be.
You can not ASSIGN a public IP you your NAS. Only your ISP can do that and usually that incures an extra cost for more than 1 Public IP address. Usually included with a Business account and most of the time only available with a Business account. ISP do not want home owners running FTP or Mail servers on a residential acounts.
As noted you have to forward the noraml FTP port, port 21, in your Router to the IP of the NAS. Since you already have that port forwarded to your Mac, which I have no idea why you did that, you have to either change that port forwarding to the NAS IP or make the FTP server on the NAS respond to some other port and forward that on the router to the IP of the NAS. The to access the NAS FTP server you have to enter the piblic IP address of your router followed with a :and port #. XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:22 or whatever port # you assign to the FTP server on the NAS.

We are currently in the process of migrating some applications from Oracle 10 to 11. Our admins have setup a new development system for us with an Oracle 11 instance. Regarding performance the new system behaves more or less the same than our old, e.g. when executing SQLs we notice hardly any performance differences and those we find are slightly in favour of the new system.
But now we discovered that the time it takes to establish a database connection via SQL*Plus is longer on the Oracle 11 system. Running the following code
    sqlplus -s user/pw@database <<END
    quit
ENDa thousand times takes ~60s under Oracle 10 but ~140s under Oracle 11. This may not seem much but we are running a test framework consisting of a bunch of shell scripts where several thousand connections are openend via SQL*Plus to execute some SQLs, so that even this small time difference results in rather huge difference in total runtime. The SQLs themself require roughly the same time in both databases, as already mentioned above they are in fact slightly faster in Oracle 11.
To analyze the time difference I ran a trace for the connect with the following parameters in sqlnet.ora
    TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT=4
TRACE_UNIQUE_CLIENT=ONand found out that there is a time difference of about 70ms during the connect handshake:

    (1) [22-MAR-2013 13:33:40:618] nscon: got NSPTRS packetAny ideas what could be the reason for this time difference? Something in our network configuration or something else?

With local connections - I do not think a TCP packet send from an IP to the same IP, leaves the interface as an actual wire protocol/signal. If I'm correct, then running local connection tests will be mostly useless in checking the actual network infrastructure.
Tests 3 and 4 should be showing the same connection times as the same physical network infrastructure is used - only the direction is reversed in the tests.
I would assume that port settings on the switches and interface settings on the routers treat packets equally in both directions between 2 servers. But this could in part explain the problem if this is not the case. In a case of a router for example, the 1st test's ingress interface is the egress interface of the 2nd test (and vice versa). Configurations can differ substantially between interfaces on the same router. Likewise if there is a firewall - as different rule sets are applied in each test and these rule sets could differ.
So I would not be too quick to state that this is definitely not a network problem. But I agree that based on the small percentage difference (assuming comparable tests), it does not look like a network issue.
The next step is to determine what the delay is between the listener accepting the client connection, and the connection being serviced by a dedicated server process.
This will require listener tracing - tracing the time from when the listener accepted the connection (and parsed the TNS connection string), to handing off the connection to the dedicated server process.
As a comparison test, you can also test shared server connections. Dispatcher processes (of the db instance) register themselves with the listener. The shared server client hand off is thus done to an existing server process - no need for the Listener to make a kernel call to load and initialise an executable image.
Shared connections are typically faster than dedicated connections in this respect.
If there is a major time difference, then it means some kind of issue with the listener dealing with dedicated servers as oppose to dispatcher hand off's. As both connections would have had very similar network transit time - which means the connection time difference is related directly to dealing with a dedicated server connection request and hand off.
You can also substitute the oracle executable with a wrapper - and troubleshoot the actual dedicated server startup. I've only done this with Oracle XE 10.2 though and with local IPC connections. Unsure how robust this will be for testing purposes via TCP using 11g.

I recently moved several sites that used Contribute to a new
webserver (Windows 2003 running IIS 6). The server uses Windows FTP
    Service.
To create a FTP account I created a Windows Account and then
a Virtual FTP directory with the same name as the windows user and
pointed that virtual directory at the root of the site I want to
update with contribute. I gave the Windows account full control on
the site root folder. I can FTP connect via Internet Explorer and
    the command line.
When connecting via contribute I get an error saying
The directory you specified does not exist. Please make sure you
entered the directory name correctly. On some servers,
    file/directory names are case sensitive"
Contribute seems to be trying to change directory to a folder
with the same name as the FTP virtual directory, rather than to the
folder that the virtual directory points at.
here's the error log from contribute

    Hi!
I think the windows service is using a different systemaccount that your other application, and that account does not have rights to read the sbo-common database.
You can change the account used by your service on the service definition or in the SERVICES application of Windows.

  • Cannot connect to cFP-2120 via FTP

I am using several cFP-2120 running LV RT 8.2.1 with the FieldPoint drivers version 5.0.1. for process control and data acquisition. All data are logged to a file and broadcasted via network-shared variables. The data files can be downloaded using an external ftp client. Lately, two of our units have been giving me some trouble as I sometimes can not access the cFP2120s via ftp. I can ping the unit on the network though, all programs are still running and I can still access the network-shared variables. Only a reset of the controller seems to solve the issue.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Volker

    Kyle,
    Thanks again for contributing.
    > Can you only connect one time after you reset and it stops working if you try to reconnect shortly there after or does it work for awhile and then eventually it stops working?
After we reset the controller it seems to always work for awhile before it stops working again.
    > Are you using the controller to perform any other tcp communications with an other servers, besides the network shared variables?
Our system is configured as a slave on a Modbus TCP network and is queried typically once a minute.
    > Whats your memory usage on the cFP? Do you have the System State Publisher software loaded? Try connecting with DSM and see how much CPU and Memory usage you are using.
No, I havent done this yet. I think this was instroduced with LV8.6? I just upgraded to the latest LV version and will investigate. This will take a week though.
    > Can you check the timeouts in MAX to make sure they didn't get changed? Right click on the cFP and select Communication Timeout Settings. From stock they should be 15000 ms.
The timeout in MAX is still 15000ms.
    > Are these cFP dedicated to just this one task or are they reconfigured from time to time?
We only reconfigure these units when we upgrade the software. This has been less frequent lately and happens maybe once a year.
    All the best,
    Volker

  • How to Connect to Oracle 9i database server via Oracle 10g XE

I have installed Oracle 10g eXpress Edition and uninstalled Oracle 9i client database. I used Oracle 9i client to connect to another Database server on a local LAN. Is it possible to create a database link to the old Oracle 9i database server via Oracle 10g XE? If yes, do I need to add ODBC drivers?
I want to achieve the following:
    1) Create a connection to the Oracle 9i database server using Ora101040 odbc drivers.
    2) Use a similar 9i tool (Enterprise Management Console) within Oracle 10g XE to access Oracle 9i Database tables on a LAN network.
    3) Create data access to Oracle 10g XE via some ODBC connection from a C++ runtime application.
Hope to receive help from Oracle professionals.
    Thanks.

XE? If yes, do I need to add ODBC drivers?
Database links between Oracle databases do not require ODBC. They do require Oracle Networking (included with both Oracle9i Database and Oracle Database 10g XE) to be configured correctly.
It is also possible to connect ot the 9i database using the 10g Instant Client (separate download)
I want to achieve the following:
    1) Create a connection to the Oracle 9i database

    2) Use a similar 9i tool (Enterprise Management

Database tables on a LAN network.XE does not have an equivalent to Oracle Enterprise Manager. XE does come with HTMLdb preinstalled and configured, and HTMLdb provides a subset of the administration capabilities of Enterprise Manager.
    3) Create data access to Oracle 10g XE via some ODBC
connection from a C++ runtime application. You can download ODBC drivers from the same location on OTN you downloaded XE. I do not know whether XE includes ODBC drivers. ODBC drivers will usually still require you to configure the Oracle Networking.
There are a number of items that make me believe you do not have a good grasp of Oracle architecture and basics. If true, I encoureage you to start reading the Concepts manual found for the database at http://docs.oracle.com, or at least the O'Reilly book 'Oracle Essentials' found at http://oracle.oreilly.com

  • I can't connect to Windows Server via FTP

I've been using FTP for about 13 years and it works fine on Apache servers but can't connect to a windows Server via my Fetch FTP program. The site owner sent me a screenshot and copied/pasted the password so I know I have the info correct. It is still giving me errors.
Is there a special method to connect to Windows server via FTP?

  • Can't connect to NAS via FTP externally

    Hi all,
Can anyone give me any straight forward adivse on getting FTP to externally?
I have a WD My Book Live Duo (NAS) that allows FTP access, but it seems that no matter what I do I can not connect to it externally through FTP.
I really need the FTP to work as the only other way to connect to it externally is via WebDav which is *really* unrealiable from from work connection.
My setup is a MBLD behind an Airport Extreme Base Station (5th Gen) FTP connects perfectly when at home on internal network. AEBS has a static IP address and is connected via DHCP, the MBLD has a static address and is telling me that all is ok and that 'Port Forwarding' is established successfully. The MBLD has a reserved address using it's MAC address and IP address on the AEBS. Using Transmit 4.3.3 FTP client.
I can't see anywhere in Airport Utility to perform port forwarding, do Apple call it something different?
I'm probobly missing something really minor, but the constant altering of settings to get this thing to work is driving me mad.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Maybe if you were to mention exactly which NAS device you are using and basically how you've configured it, and which version of the software that came with the device, someone here might have some experience with your exact hardware/software or something very similar and be able to help pinpoint a problem.
There are many many implementations of SMB. Some (mostly free) don't work very well, even for Windows. Some need to be updated. Some seem to work very well.
In addition, have you already tried using this device with Windows, Linux, another Mac? Did the device just quit working, or has it never worked? Without more information nobody has a chance because there isn't just one or two reasons that a NAS doesn't work.
