Database connexion hanging

Hi all,
I'm using Oracle database 10g in a RAC environment with 02 nodes. We had power problem last saturday morning and all the servers was down. We restarted it and no problem till today morning at 11:00. The problem is all users expected SYS and SYSTEM cannot connect to the database. When we try to connect to the database, it's hanging in connecting and no errors appear. I restarted the server again and it works fine no but i don't know if it wil apear again or not. To avoid bad surprise does any body can tell me why this connexion is hanging. If someone has already experienced the same problem like this.
Waiting for your help.
Many thanks
regards
raitsaervo

  • Database Connection Hangs - getConnection()

    Dear Friends,
i have a serious problem with a database connectivity,
now the issue is,i have written the code to connect to the databaseserver which is in some remote place,it loads the driver, that's the oracle driver, but when it comes to DriverManager.getConnection, that's the connectivity with the database it hangs. Now first i thought their might be a network problem but then it should give a networkexception, and also i put some dummy userid, password and also the IPAddresse, port number ,and it gave me a SQLException,so i assume that their is no network problem.then my question is why does it get hangs when the control comes to the getConnection method,
    what might be the problem?
Is there any problem with the database server? Plz Help Me!

    Jeba,
Fill in the blank: Assumption is the mother of all .... ups. :P
I'm not an Oracle expert or even Oracle novice, but some simple principles should apply.
First up, can you reach the database server with simple stuff like ping.
If you can, can you then see shared folders etc from your browser?
If the answer to these is yes, you should not have a network problem.
As a suggestion, try to ensure that you have a user name / password combination with the highest access rights possible - On at least one other database there are issues to do with rights associated with different usernames.
Finally, do you have something like dbVisualiser?
Google it and download it. You already have the jdbc drivers which it needs, so just configure it as needed and see if it can connect. If it can, you may have a problem with your connection string.

  • "Database Upgrade" hangs at 0% during "Completing the Installation" phase

    I 'm now installing the EGRCM8.6.3.4000 environment.
"Database Upgrade" hangs at 0% during "Completing the Installation" phase.
I checked the grc.log, and found the following WARN and DEBUG messages.
2012-07-20 02:40:05,544 WARN [Thread-35] DBConfigManager:1425 Database is not initialized yet.
2012-07-20 03:31:10,412 DEBUG [el.Default (self-tuning)'] GrcConfig:2530 Could not get value for key 'grc.sso.enabled' due to data base is not ready.
The connection to DB is OK, and the status of DB instance is open now.
I can't figure out why the console said "Database is not initialized yet".
Does anyone have a clue about it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kai

    Hi yasir,
    Thanks for your response.
I haven't finished the installation yet.
"Completing the Installation" I mentioned in previous thread referred to the final installation phase.
After I entered GRC URL (http://hostname:port/grc), the "Database Upgrade" screen hanged at 0% and cannot proceed.
From the grc.log, I can read that the connection seemed OK, and the database also worked well through SQLPLUS.
I am wondering why it happens.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kai

  • 10.2.0.2 Database Install Hangs on AIX 5.3

We have four new, recently-configured, AIX servers with same configuration with respect to IBM patches, kernel settings, etc. The install on our second server hangs while the other three installs successfully completed. It's not a connectivity issue with x-windows software or Putty as the OUI screen displays correctly and we enter all our install details.
We get as far as the Summary screen, at which point we review the parameters to be used, then select "Install" and the 10g screen comes up (where you would normally see progress status) and nothing else happens. Eventually the screen washes out and nothing happens. We have downloaded new copies of the software from OTN, as well as transferred copies of the files from one of the successful servers, but with the same results.
I have attached the contents of the install log file below and hope that someone may have a moment to review and point out something that may be causing the install issue. I am available to provide any additional information as requested.
    RDBMS Version: Oracle 10.2.0.2
    OS Version: AIX 5.3
I can email the full install log if needed, but it contains more than 30,000 words and exceeds this forum's max length.

  • Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) Database apparent hang

    Hi All,
We have an installation in which three database cooperate to give functionality for our 24x7 banking application. One database is used as a read-only reference database and is only read after it has been recreated (via import/export). The alert log shows this:
    Mon May 3 22:08:07 2010
kkjcre1p: unable to spawn jobq slave process
    Mon May 3 22:08:07 2010
    Errors in file /u01/oracle/product/10.2.0/admin/p014banr/bdump/p014banr_cjq0_2211852.trc:
I've trolled the web for references to this problem and all are referring to an ORA error that accompanies this, but I can't find such and error in my alert log or the trace file.
Here is the top section of the trace file mentioned above:

Ask Tom and Burlesson refer to memory issues. Earlier in the month/late last month I found that a permission error was to blame on 10g installations on AIX (our installation is on AIX 5.3 ML8) -- I've checked and the external jobs controller permissions are correct, yet I'm still faced with this strange hang. The database is in no archive log mode, and not being shutdown at the time -- there is a massive truncate and import running at the time to re-create the database. This is what hangs and prompts the operators to call. The exact same process has been followed for the last two years without issues. It's only in the last week that this has been occurring. At first I thought it was the go-love on 6 April 2010 but we only started experiencing this apparent hang (cannot log in using SQL*Plus either as sys as sysdba or using OS authentication). Killing the pmon process and restarting the DB works and shows no sign of problems. I'm just frustrated as to the lack of error messages in the alert log when this happens and how to stop this from happening again.
If anyone needs more information kindly post your question and I will answer as soon as I can. Your help and cooperation in this matter is appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Andries Burger

I've updated the processes in the database and increased the sessions. I've done some investigatio into the number of processes and sessions used by our 'off the shelve' product and the numbers are considerably different from what the vendor claimed. Our usual pattern has been a hang then one 36 hour period of processing without issues, then another hang. Since posting this - I restarted the DB that same hour - we've had a peacefull 24 hour period, so if the process and session increase did not help, I'll be looking at another support call from operations in the next nine hours. I however this has fixed the problem, or at least this symptom, I'll mark this as having solved the question.
Another aspect I've left off. The application makes use of three database (this problematic one being one) and a number os public synonyms to tables stored in one of the other databases. How do I determine the number of 'sessions' that would flow over a dblink and/or a synonym? Sessions connecting from outside can be more than one session on a physical connection - would the same hold true for dblinks and synonyms? (If that is the case I might have to increase the sessions some more than where they are at present.
    Kind Regards,
    AB

    sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> connect /as sysdba
    sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

ALL attemps just hang , no errors.
    what can i do?
i think the only way is reboot the machine?

  • Database control hangs in Workshop Tutorial !!!

    Hi,
I am using WLS 7.0.1.0/SP1 ( latest version ) with Workshop included, on Windows
XP Prof. In Workshop Tutorial, Step 3, the test hangs at the execution of
    Applicant dbApplicant = bankruptciesDB.checkForBankruptcies(taxID);
I am asking if it is a known problem? There may be several reasons for this and
it is too expensive to investigate all of them:
    1. Tutorial text misses a fragment describing special configuration for the Database
    control
    2. Tutorial is correct but default ( installation ) configuration of Database
    control has bug(s)
    3. A helper class, implementing BankruptciesDatabaseControl interface, is missed.
    4. Implementation of Database control is buggy. What the magic happens when I
“SELECT TAXID, FIRSTNAME, LASTNAME, CURRENTLYBANKRUPT FROM BANKRUPTCIES WHERE
TAXID={taxID}”, i.e. only a sub-set of “Applicant” attributes in the query, and
how Database control ( using my interface method public Investigate.Applicant
checkForBankruptcies(String taxID) ) knows which database table field to map to
which Applicant” attribute ? [I suppose, creation of “Applicant” class is independent
from the database schema, isn’t it ?]
    Thank you,
    - Michael

Sure, I will send you the dump. Please, provide me with your e-mail.
As of column names, don’t you find it error-prone approach where a developer has
to “find” the names and type them into the code ? Since you are already deal with
a db adapter/controller, I suggest, the adapter has to read a db schema, gets
the column names and data types. In other words, I would expect in this case the
same functionality as provided by, e.g., TogetherSoft’s Control Center. It creates
Entity Beans out of the db schema and only then allows you to manipulate them.
Thank you and wait for your e-mail.

    Michael,
The names of the elements in the 'Applicant' class should match one-on-one
with the database column names in the corresponding table.
I guess you are using the default Pointbase database. Can you check whether
you were able to create successful connections to the Pointbase database
    during server startup?
If the server is hanging at the statement you have mentioned, can you
    take a
thread dump by using Ctrl->Break and email it to me.
    Thanks,

  • Database link hangs from source 10204 to remote 9208

    Hi,
I have a sql job that runs sql statements on database 10204 connecting to database 9208 via a database link. The job takes about half hour to complete. The source database, 10204 connects to remote 9208 to retreive data from 9208. Most of the processing is performed on the remote db. For some reason, after processing sql statements on remote db, the job hangs. I looked at wait events on remote and it shows "SQL*Net message from client". I looked at wait events on source database and it shows "SQL*Net message from dblink".
It looks to me that there is something wrong with the communication between the source and remote db via the db link.
I tried setting the default_sdu_size from 2k to 8k but this does not help the hanging. I tried runing the job at different times in the day and night but this does not help either. I filed an SR with metalink and they asked me to run trace. I sent them the trace files and they came back saying to bounce the databases. I bounce the databases and still that did not resolve the hanging. Anyone encounter this issue lately? Thank you in advance.

I have seen this before between 2 10g databases, but very rarely, and never identified the cause, so suspected it was from a network glitch. Solution was to kill the hung sessions and restart.
Setup some network tests and leave them running. E.g ping tests, scp tests, and/or open ssh sessions to see if you lose any packets when the database link fails. Check your OS logs for network interface errors. Check if there are any firewalls between the databases which may disconnect inactive sessions.

  • Database Session hangs around for 20 minutes after logout

We used HTML DB 1.6.0.00.87 to create a custom data warehouse reporting application. For some reason once you log out of HMTL_DB, the database session does not go away until 20 minutes later. I have tested it several times and it is consistent at 20 minutes. Does anyone know what controls this and how I can adjust it?

    Hi Randy,
What you're probably seeing is the connection pooling done by the mod_plsql module. They 'hang around' because connecting to the database can be an 'expensive' overhead, if you run a query that take 0.5 seconds but your connection takes 0.25 seconds, then obviously a great way to reduce the overall time is to not recreate that connection each time, so a connection pool is used.
Are these sessions causing you a problem?

  • Database Creation hangs - Ora10g - RHEL3

Can anybody create oracle10g database on RHEL3 without any problem?
When I try to create Custom or General Purpose database, the process hangs at 93% (Custom) or at 78% (General Purpose), and nothing happens for hours and hours ...
The CPU usage is 100% (AthlonXP 2400+), the memory usage is 100% (1GB), the swap usage ~5%

  • Full database import hangs

    System:
    Windows 2000 SP4
    Oracle 8.1.7
    Hi,
I am importing a full backup ( export dump file ). It was taken from the
database having the same structure as the database to which I am importing.
It is taking too long in importing data in a particular table and seems to hang
for hours. It says 40542226 rows imported. It seems to hang from here.
I checked the v$session to identify the session serving the import and
v$session_wait to verify the wait events for that session. But I don't see
any wait events for this session. What I see is the session itself.
    I did the import using:
    imp username/password@sid file'D:\data\fullbkp.dmp' log=D:\log\fullbkpimp.log' full=y
My question is: what are other diagnosis I should perform to help find out the cause and
possibly the solution of this import hang?

    Hi,
In addition, when I want to see what's is going on, I usually execute the SQL below in order to monitory the import operation activity...
    select substr(sql_text,instr(sql_text,'INTO "'),30) table_name,
    rows_processed,
    round((sysdate-to_date(first_load_time,'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss'))*24*60,1) minutes,
    trunc(rows_processed/((sysdate-to_date(first_load_time,'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss'))*24*60)) rows_per_min
    from sys.v_$sqlarea
    where sql_text like 'INSERT %INTO "%' and
    command_type = 2 and open_versions > 0; Cheers

Pls check listener.log, is there any error. ?
Also search metalink/open tar, this might be a known issue.

  • Select query over database link hanging

    Hi All,
I have been looking all over the internet and all over this forum but i could not find the solution for my issue given below.
There are a number of distributed databases (Oracle 10g) over a private network. Sending and receiving data amongst all the databases work fine. But when one particular database A tries to receive data from database B, it hangs and then the famous old error TNS LOST CONTACT.
Basically, this has been implemented by creating a batchjob. This worked fine for years and now suddenly this is not working only for the two specific databases.
It is just a simple select query being hit on the remote database. This is called through a function in the package, which builds the dynamic select query using DBMS_SQL package.
    It actually hangs when doing DBMS_SQL.PARSE ();
The same function when called in a pl/sql block from database A, works perfectly fine and receives the required data from database B. This was tried with Oracle SQLDeveloper, TOAD and SQLPLUS.
Things seems to be working fine, but actually unaware of the problem. I tried all the suggestions provided over the metalink also.
    Require your help urgently.
    Thanks
    Akhil.
