Database Copy size

Dear
We make Exchange Designs for more than a decade now. We always use the storage calculator as a second opinion tool. The Exchange 2013 storage calculator always calculates the database copy size 1.5 times the active Database. However, comparing both, the active
and the copy on a production DAG, both do have the same size? I think this 1.5 factor is not necessary, even not OK. Because that means that you should make your Active database storage a large as the calculated database copy storage size. You need to be able
to switch from active/copy to copy/active.
So, why is the database copy size 1.5 times the active database when using the storage calculator?
Regards.

Not sure I follow.  There are a lot of components and factors in the Exchange 2013 storage calc.  For example, if you are talking DB copies, Content Indexing, and Transaction Logs of a passive copy on the same disk & has a truncation
fault tolerance & designated LAG, then I would expect disk requirements to be different than a totally different configuration.  Feel free to share your calc example.
Be sure that you are using the latest version of the calc; it does update and there are fixes.

  • Estimate database backup size

    Hi All,
    AIX 5.3
    oracle 10.2.0.3
    I have production database of 80 GB. I want to take a cold backup during the upgrade process. Now i want to know database backup size. so we can free space from some mount point accordingly.
    Is there any way to estimate database backup size?
    Thanks,
    Vishal

    Question: how did you establish that your database is actually 80G?
    Is that 80G of data in the database, or is it the sum of all data files, temp tablespace files, undo tablespace files, redo logs, oracle binary software files, control files, etc?
    If you intend to do an upgrade of the software, my recommendation is to shut the database down and do a full copy of:
    1) your entire oracle product tree (usually /oracle/product), including ORACLE_HOME.
    2) your entire 'oradata' structure which (should) include all of your Oracle database data files and all other associated files.

  • Database copy in iseries servers

    Hi,
    I have a query.
    On I Series AS/400 system, we need to refresh production system (P04) to exsting  quality system (Q04).
    database size of P04 is around 250 GB. Remote CLient copy is not feasible as it will take days to complete.
    In case of database copy, save P04data library to tape in production system. Then restore P04data from tape to Quality system. Replace existing Q04data library with P04data library. is it possible?
    If not then what is the procedure to delete existing Q04 system in order to perform Homogenous copy.

    Hi Sailesh,
    There is another forum called "SAP on DB2/UDB on i5/OS" - i5/OS is the new name of AS/400 and iSeries.

    have a CL program to refresh WAS ABAP.
    Good luck,

  • Database Copy to another

    I have a SQL database on Server1 called DB1. I need that entire database copied over to a different
    server (call it Server2) each night. I'd like to schedule a SQL Agent job to do this.
    I'd prefer not to setup a linked server on Server2 so that's why I'm asking this question.
    What is the best practices method of accomplishing this? Is the best route to schedule a native backup of DB1 on Server1 and then schedule a restore of that .bak onto Server2? I worry about the job failing if people are connected to DB1 on Server2 at the time
    of the scheduled restore.

    Method 1:
    Sept 1 : Backup database from source to local drive,  ( What is the database size ), if size is small then you can directly place the backup the file to destination server, and if the backup size is large then you have to backup to local then you have
    to copy to destination...
    Sept 2 : copy the backup file to destination and restore that data base with NORECOVERY
    Robocopy syntax :
    ::Copy all files from sourcepath to destinationpath using Robocopy
    ::Last updated on 23/02/2012 by Adam Rush
    ::Switches:
    ::(E)mpty folders included in copy
    ::(R)etry each copy up to 15 times
    ::(W)ait 5 seconds between attempts
    ::(LOG) creates log file
    ::(NP) do not include progress txt in logfile; this keeps filesize down
    ::Source path
    set sourcepath=\\SourceServer\Share
    ::Destination path
    set destinationpath=E:\Destination\Folder
    ::Log path
    set logpath=E:\Logs\Robocopy\
    ::Include format yyyy-mm-dd#hh-mm-ss.ms in log filename
    set filename=Robocopy_%date:~-4,4%-%date:~-7,2%-%date:~-10,2%#%time::=-%.txt
    ::Run command
    robocopy %sourcepath% %destinationpath% /E /R:15 /W:5 /LOG:%logpath%%filename% /NP

    Method 2 :
    If this is just for a DR then you can do the below..
    You can configure database mirroring or Log shipping to implement the same.
    If there is any other purpose , for example generating any nightly reports or anything then you have to restore the database with RECOVERY and etc...

  • Database copy procedure

    Hello All,
    How can I copy my PRODUCTION server data to DEVELOPMENT server.
    Prd Server System Information.
    Database: Maxdb 7.5
    Operating system: Win 2k3 SP2
    Database size : 57GB
    Development server has same configuration of PRD server
    should i directly restore PRD offline backup to  Dev server. Will it work?
    Please guide me...
    Best regards
    Amol

    Hi Amol,
    Ideally I shall not recommend you to make database copy from PRD to DEV since all the version management in the development system will be lost by doing this.
    For your question:
    Development server has same configuration of PRD server
    should i directly restore PRD offline backup to Dev server. Will it work?
    Yes. It will work.
    Alternate solution
    As you are interested in copying PRD data to development, I would suggest you to create a new client in Development system and perform client copy from PRD to Development (new client) with SAP_ALL profile.

  • Database copy Move data

    Hello,
    I have a database A. of about 15GB size and want to copy the data across to database B. - same schema just a few additional tables.
    When I use Oracle Sql developer and click on tools- database copy and select my source A and destination B. truncate objects the process starts
    but..does not copy any data at all. - it takes only 3 minutes as well.
    why is that?

    well I dont just want to create a duplicate of database A. because B. contains some tables that are still important but unique to B.
    most of the tables between A. and B. are the same and I just want to copy them over from A to B.
    Using the Oracle SQL Developer seems to get the similarities between the schemas and copy those table over BUT it somehow forgets the data altough there
    is a DATA MOVE as part of the copying procedure.
    I know there is the options to create migration repositories but this all seems to complicated to me.

  • Javascript error in BEx after system database copy

    Hello,
    we made a database copy of our BW 3.1 system on another hardware. After having done everything described in the How-To-Guide "Enable SAP BW Web functionality", we called the BEx via URL. The login screen displays and also the Report menu, but there occur JavaScript errors on the page, that didn't occur in the copy master. E.g.
    "SAPBWSSgdo is null or not an object" or
    "SAPBWItemCatalog undefined".
    These errors prevent the choice menu for BW report value options to be displayed, which is quite annoying. Does anybody know where the error might come from? Are there any components required by BEx which weren't copied with the database copy?
    Thanks for your help in advance,
    Volker Hofmann

    Hi Beat,
    thanks you're helping me! The MIME-Repository objects like JS-Files, stylesheets and images can be read. The strange thing is:
    The J2EE engine is hosted by a provider. When they're calling the BEx web reports, they're displayed correctly. But when we call them (via proxy!), the error occurs. Even the application management doesn't know where the error comes from, after having checked if the proxy caches old data. The error is still not resolved...
    Do you have another idea?
    Regards,
    Volker

  • Mailbox Database Copy Status Failed

    We have 2 Exchange 2010 servers.  We run a DAG.  Recently I have noticed that database copy DB2 which is located on Exch-1 is showing "Failed".  Database copy DB1 which is located on Exch-2 is showing Healthy.  I searched online
    for information regarding the issue with the failed database copy.  I found information that led me to run these commands.
    Suspend-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity “Mailbox Database XXXXX\Server Name”
    Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity “Mailbox Database XXXXX\Server Name” -DeleteExistingFiles
    It went thru the seeding process and completed but the database copy still shows "Failed".  Copy Q Length is 19.  I have refreshed the console.  What else do I need to do to correct this?  I did recently shut down Exch-2 server
    for maintenance.  thanks

    Hi,
    It's glade to hear the good news. Thanks for your updating.

  • About database file size

    Hi, I have created a database with size of 1000MB and log file1000MB by default.
    After database created, my data load failed because the db size has exceed 1GB, I try to increase the size but not success.
    Then I try to create a new database with 10000MB, reserve size is 10000MB also. Total of the db file is 1GB and log file also 1GB.
    May I know if I want to add more size later, lets say 100GB after 3 years...can I add the file size? But my reserve size only 10000MB.
    Thanks.

    You just need to add files to DBSpace
    Central / Dbspaces / You_DB_SPACE / Files / Right Click / New File

  • SQL Developer Database Copy truncates DATE columns

    Hope someone can help me. I want to copy all object from one schema to another schema in my Database. I have used the "tools - Database Copy" utility and it copies all of the objects and data however when I query the DATE columns in the destination schema the time element has been truncated? Why has this happened?
    tab_h contains a column h_date of type DATE
    Query
    SELECT TO_CHAR(H_DATE, 'MM-DD-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') from tab_h;
    returns
    02-07-2012 09:54:14
    from the source table
    yet returns
    02-07-2012 00:00:00
    from destination schema? This is the case for all DATE columns in the tables.
    I noticed this was happening in 3.0.04.34 and I upgraded to 3.1.07.42 and it still happens.
    Thank you

    Maybe there's a problem getting the OS settings right; try to add this to \sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf:
    AddVMOption -Duser.region=USIf that works, you can try others closer to you.
    Hope that helps,

  • How to Create a database copy and specify the source database.

    Hello,
    In my dag environment I would like to create a new database copy and specify the source. My company has database copies in 2 locations. Instead of transferring the data from one location to the other, I would like to specify the source be the copy that is
    in the same location.
    Thank you,

    Hi,
    We can create a mailbox database, then run EMC and EMS to create a database copy.
    More details about Add a Mailbox Database Copy, for your reference:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd298080(v=exchg.141).aspx
    Note: please pay attention to Prerequisites section, for example:
    1. The specified Mailbox server must not already host a copy of the specified mailbox database.
    2. The server hosting the specified database and the server that will host the database copy must both be in the same database availability group (DAG). The DAG must also have quorum and be healthy.

  • Database limit warning when creating database copy

    Exchange 2010 Standard SP3 RU3.
    2 Server mailbox DAG.
    I have 5 mailbox databases mounted. I have a copy of each database. WHen I try to create a copy for the 5th mailbox database I get the following warning "Server has reached the maximum database limit of 5.
    Looking at my server, There was an old database that was never used in the exchange directory but its not listed in the EMC.
    Is it possible that information about an old database still exists in AD? Where can I verify in Adsiedit what exchange databases it sees?

    Hi,
    One server limited to 5 databases in Exchange 2010 Standard edition.
    So, from the description of your screenshot I summary the following information:
    The following databases stayed on NASD-MBX1:
    Mailbox Database Admin
    Mailbox Database Faculty
    Mailbox Database Faculty Large
    Mailbox Database Faculty Medium
    Mailbox Database Faculty Small (Mounted)
    The following databases stayed on NASD-MBX2:
    Mailbox Database Admin (Mounted)
    Mailbox Database Faculty (Mounted)
    Mailbox Database Faculty Large (Mounted)
    Mailbox Database Faculty Medium (Mounted)
    Public Folder Database (It should be here, right?) (Mounted)
    Now, if we try to make a copy of “Mailbox Database Faculty Small”,
    it will be available as a passive database copy on NASD-MBX2. However, there are five Database mounted on NASD-MBX2 including the Public Folder Database. So it will
    get the error “Server has reached the maximum database limit of 5”. We can delete the Public Folder Database to test it.
    In ADSIEdit, please refer the following image to find these databases.
    Best Regards.

  • Cannot add mailbox database copy to DR site - .edb file not getting created

    I have a DR site setup that I want copies of 4 of my mailbox databases.  3 of the mailbox databases copied over successfully but the last and largest one which is really not that large 69Gbs keeps failing when i Update the database copy.  Seems
    to not be creating the .edb file.  Is there another way to get the .edb file over to the server, possibly manually copying it then doing and update database copy?  I have my backups turned off on all the servers that have the mailbox role on it now
    thinking that was causing some issues with the database copy?  Any suggestions is appreciated, thanks.
    Michael Duhon

    Yes manually copy the edb file and paste them in the DR server . Then try to update with for the incremental of database copy. Verify the database is clean shutdown that you are moving to the DR site.
