Database Corrupted / File Corruption

EDIT: I just realized that this may be in the wrong forum section, sorry if it is. Hmm, I wouldn't actually know which section it was supposed to go under anyway, lol
I have a problem with my Nokia N95 8GB. Yesterday, I noticed that the image & video browser was saying that there was "no images or videos" available to display. In addition, Y-Browser was refusing to load, saying "unable to execute file for security reasons". I didn't know what was wrong and restarted the phone. After it started up I loaded the image/video browser again and was given a message about a corrupted database and told I may have lost some data. (if the exact error message is important, I'll look it up)
Last night, I taken a backup of my phone with PC Suite and synchronized contacts, which seemed to go smoothly. I assume that this will have backed up all of the phone required settings including message centre numbers and any other settings that would have been customized by my network (o2) via a setup sms when I first bought it. (Basically, I have no idea what is backed up within the "Phone model specific" section of the backup.) If there is anything that wouldn't ahve been backed up then could someone let me know so I can do so before formatting etc?
Q: I couldn't find any information about backing up the calendar events - are they excluded?
Today, I have noticed that MobiTubia has disappeared from the Applications menu. I haven't checked all custom software I have installed to see if it is still available/working, but at least two applications are having trouble, so I don't feel that I need to in order to prove something is wrong. hehe
The phone itself still "works" - it boots up ok, seems to have all contacts (the sync I performed didn't say that any contacts had been removed from the phone, just added new ones into windows address book), the calendar events still show and the alarm still works (phew - used it for work this morning), but I still can't get anything to show up in the image/video browser and I suspect that there may be some storage device and/or FAT corruption.
My plan at the moment is to make sure that there's nothing else I need to back up or write down, check the storage medium for errors, do a factory reset (holding call/green, * and 3 to restore the software/firmware from backup) and then restor the backup(s). I'm assuming that Windows scandisk/checkdisk would be okay for this purpose - for the E drive, at least. (Although now I'm thinking about it, the nokia software may have a utility for this, I'll look that up later)
So, I'm wondering;
1. Would there be anything further that I sould back up or write down?
2. Am I right in thinking that scandisk/checkdisk is okay for scanning the E drive?
3. How can I scan the phone's C drive for errors?
I may possibly answer #3 myself when searching for options in the Nokia software
Thanks in advance for any help/replies.

Hi,
Run an rman backup on file 4 and it should clean itself up.

First, what version of Berkeley DB are you running and on what system?
The error indicates something amiss in the log. The LSN values are quite
small. Can you run 'db_printlog -N -h <env path>' and post the log
    contents?
If you are using BDB 5.0 or later, can you also post the contents of
the __db.rep.diag00 file in the environment home directory? Thanks.

You can but it will not fix anything - you have a corrupted library = not an corrupted application

can this happened due to data base or log file corruption, if so how can i check on that to verify the issue
Its not necessary if the issue is with network it would happen every day IMO it basically happens when load on network is high and you transfer log file which is big in size.
As per message database engine was not able to restore log backup and said that you must rebuild log because it did not find out log to be consistent. From here it seems log corruption.
Is it the same log file you restored ? if that is the case since log file was corrupt it would ofcourse give error on wehatever server you restore.
Can you try creating logshipping on new server by taking fresh full and log backup and see if you get issue there as well. I would also say you to raise case with Microsoft and let them tell what is root cause to this problem

  • Is there a software that will detect corrupt files and notify me?

A back up does no good if a file becomes corrupted, then the back up starts saving over the good file with a corrupt one! How can I know if a file has become corrupted with out opening it? I have thousands of files. Is there some sort of scanner I can run daily to make sure my files will open when I need them. Thoughts? Thanks so much!

    Well, what does "corrupt" mean?
Exactly. In other words, "file corruption" is a very broad, generic, and catch-all term. Sure, there are utilities which can continually or periodically scan disks and automatically alert the user (and sometimes even correct) the kinds of "corruption" that pertain to the disk data tree which records and organizes the writing of files to your disks.
But that's an entirely different thing from the kind of "file corruption" that is specific to a particular software and its native file formats. A FileMaker database, for example, can become "corrupt" due to things ranging from bad practice to momentary network outage. The on-disk "file" itself may be perfectly fine, but its content just doesn't entirely "make sense" anymore to the application. That's why many applications (FileMaker included) provide their own built-in file recovery tools.
You can open a native AI file (or most any application-specific file) on your computer with a text editor, make some text edits in it, and then save it. Doing so can wreck the file in terms its usability in AI; but all the while it will likely be a perfectly valid file in terms of "a file on disk."
So assuming you're talking about the kind of "file corruption" which AI users frequently complain about when a file suddently can't be opened, or throws up some alert, I doubt you will find a background utility specifically designed to test the AI-native integrity of AI-native files.

  • Itunes xml file corruption

I'd like to ask the community if anyone else is having trouble with corruption of their iTunes XML library file?
Back on October 20th, my iTunes library completely imploded: roughly one third of all songs stopped playing, all my Digital Copy movies refused to play. I had just upgraded my iPad to iOS 6 and pretty much everything imploded. The solution was to basically delete the iTunes XML files, re-install the software and then re-import all my uploaded music.
Yesterday, I connected one of my iPod Classics and saw the same error messages that started the first round of trouble: there were 7 files that iTunes claimed it could not sync with my Classic because they were the "wrong format". I checked each in turn and they turned out to be from 3 of my 650 or so albums. In each case I could click on the iTunes entry and nothing would play: no error was reported.
In each case if I pulled up the track information, I could see that the references for these 7 songs had been corrupted. So for example, the track "We Didn't Start The Fire", from Billy Joel's album, "Storm Front", had "Song Information" that said it was actually located in /iTunes/Crowded House/ - no album name or song name were included. Every one of the 7 "wrong format" songs had corrupted "location data" like this. The choice of the tracks that were corrupted appears to be largely random. However, I have noticed that corruption only seems to occur when I add new material to my iTunes database.
The first instance was a complete meltdown and required a clean re-installation of iTunes - literally hundreds of song entries were corrupted. This time around only 7 seem to have been impacted [though i concede it could be more].
I tried asking Apple support for help and although they were able to walk me through the repair process, they have been unable to explain why this corruption is taking place. I wonder if anyone has any ideas? For what little it may help:-
I am running iTunes 10.7(21) on a Mac Mini (OS/X 10.7.5(11G63)) with the 2.3GHz Core i5 and 8Gb of RAM.
My iTunes Library "XML" file is in my local home directory [default location], but because it's now well over 200Gb in size, all the music files for iTunes are stored in a QNAP NAS [works fine, local Apple folk helped me configure it].
It's difficult to triage exactly what's happening without having access to something like XMLspy and being able to work through the iTunes XML file piecemeal, but it does look like something during the "add songs to database" process is corrupting that file, and, interestingly, it adds new content fine - it's existing entries that get corruption.
My music library is not *that* big: the XML file is 15.2Mb on disc, iTunes is currently holding 659 Albums an about 7827 songs.
Does anyone else have ideas as to what might be causing this? It seems to be a relatively recent development, and since I rebuilt the database completely 6 weeks ago, this most recent damage is definitely a recent thing.
    Suggestions gratefully received.

The XML file is a readable subset of the data in the main library file. If the library database becomes corrupt the easiest approach is to restore an earlier version.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
The images are from Windows XP but you get the idea. Your Mac library file may omit the .itlextension.
See MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for tools to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working I'm told Carbon Copy Cloner can do the equivalent of this Windows based backup tip.

  • Every time I open iPhoto (as of today) after a few seconds the coloured wheel appears and the program become unresponsive. I have tried closing my computer. I assume I have a corrupt file but at the moment I cannot access anything in the program?

Every time I try to open Iphoto '11 (as of today) the coloured wheel appears after a few seconds and the program becomes unresponsive. I assume I have a corrupt file but I cant do anything including accessing help. I have tried closing down and restarting but it dosnt help. Any ideas please?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • InDesign - need a "Fix my Corrupted File" Upload Service

There are frequently posts on the forum for people who have corrupted INDD files. This means lost work and frustrated InDesign users.
The Indesign team should offer a "Fix my File" upload link to its customers.
For each corrupted file, you will help a customer, and in the process, hopefully improve the overall stability of the product (which has issues) and benefit everyone...
Adobe: If you are afraid that you will be swamped with requests to "Fix my File", then you should probably just get out of the SW business now...

Zak Williamson wrote: "If the documents are fundamentally corrupt in some way, theres no way to repair them." and then later "As I mentioned to Casey, it's rarely possible to repair a truly corrupt document"
I definitely don't want this to sound like a flame or a whine, but I find that statement quite flabbergasting. Somebody at Adobe must understand the format of an InDesign file well enough to be able to edit out the specific element that is causing InDesign to complain about the document. I do file repair for another company (www.qsatoolworks.com) whose file format is probably more complex than an InDesign file. In over 10 years I've only had 1 or 2 files I could not repair at least to the point of recovering the textual data.
What led me to this forum is that a customer contacted me to help them recover an InDesign file. They just migrated from a PowerMac G4 with CS2 to a Mac Pro with CS3 and a few of their files won't open. ("ID may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.")
We have tried them on another Mac with CS2, and they won't open there either. "Something" must have gone wrong when the files were transferred to the new Mac.
(Naturally, the old hard drive has already been reformatted.)
Knowing what I do about file formats (but understanding that my knowledge is nearly worthless in an InDesign file) I have to assume an InDesign file contains an object map with pointers to the various objects in the document. The idea of telling the customer "your 32 page booklet is lost" when the problem could simply be a screwed up pointer is horrifying to me.
Here at QSA ToolWorks we charge $120/hour for recovery service, success or failure. We've saved lots of people from their own recklessness, and created a passionate user base in the process. We've made our product more reliable (and fixed some bugs) based on the knowledge gained through file repair; Adobe could do the same, but if they don't want to provide such a service, perhaps they should consider training third parties to do it.
I'd like to address one other comment above. Harbs wrote "I've been lead to believe that Adobe has utilities (which they use internally) to analyze and possibly fix corrupted files." Of course, I don't know whether Adobe has such utilities, but I suspect they don't. Because I can do Helix database repairs, people likewise assume I have "special utilities" that can fix corrupted files. (We've even been accused of keeping them secret so we can use file repair as a source of revenue!) I don't. What I do have is a deep understanding of the file format. Beyond that, a file editor and a couple of AppleScripts I wrote to display the object fields in a human-readable format are all the 'special' tools I have. If Adobe has any sort of tools for analyzing files, I suspect they are much the same. In other words, without extensive internal knowledge, they are worthless.

  • Recovering data when log files corrupt

I am interested to understand if you can easily salvage the data files if the log files corrupt for some reason. Thus far I cannot see how this can be easilly achieved as db_backup requires a working environment, and since the log files may have vanished, the LSN of the data files will be greater than of the last log - and therefore refuse to create the environment.
Ideally I guess, I am looking for a tool that can reset the LSN in place. It would be better to have access to your 100's of GB of data and accept a small amount of inconsistency or data loss than have nothing.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Resetting LSNs can be done using db_load -r lsn or using the lsn_reset() method, and it is done in place.
If your log files are corrupted, you would need to verify the database files (you can use the db_verify BDB utility or the verify() method). The actions you will further take depend on the result of verifying the database files:
    - if they verify correctly then you just need to reset the LSNs and the file IDs in the databases and start with a fresh environment,
    - if they do not verify correctly, you could restore the data from the most recent backup, or you can perform a salvage dump of the data in the database files using db_dump -r or db_dump -R and than reload the data using db_load; see the Dumping and Reloading Databases doc section in the Berkeley DB Programmer's Reference Guide.

  • Help with 11g install - corrupt file "filegroup15.jar" (Windows 32bit)

Hi, I'm having problems installing 11g. I've downloaded the .zip file a thousand times, and each time I get a CRC problem on the following file in the .zip:
    database\stage\Components\oracle.ctx\11.1.0.6.0\1\DataFiles\filegroup15.jar bad CRC df37af05 (should be 38b64725)
I don't see anyone else complaining about the problem, so it must be something on my side, but not sure what. I've downloaded multiple times, on multiple computers, both with and without a download manager. Any suggestions on how to get around this (the file is over 140 Mb or I'd ask that someone simply email it to me...)
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
    Scott

Sorry I wasn't clear, the corrupted file filegroup15.jar is the one that's 140 Mb in size.
Looking under Windows, I see the following filesize info for the entire .zip:
    Size: 1.73 Gb (1,868,327,005 bytes)
Size on Disk: 1.73 Gb (1,868,328,960 bytes)
Does that match what you have?
    Thanks,

  • Corrupt file sollution

    Hi guys,
most likely I've found a way to partly solve the corrupt file
    problems with Freehand for FREE!
6 months ago I found a version control software
recommendation in a Flash 8 programmers guide and thought why not
see if it works on other files than Actionscript files? I installed
the TortoiseSVN system and gave it a try.
    http://tortoisesvn.net/downloads
(just be sure to download the right version - 32 or 64 bit)
It works like a dream! It works if you have a server or not,
but seems to be at its best in a server based system.
Any way: work locally and keep Repository on server or
    (different folder locally)
All changes to FH file is stored in a database and you are
    able to
    - Commit changes to database and add comments to each version
and view log files any time
    - add tags or branches and merge at a later stage
    - move, rename, add and delete files to the project from a
    context right-click menu in Explorer
    - icons overlay in Explorer show status on all version
    controlled files
    - At any time you can revert to an older version of FH file
    - checkout and lock files if you're working in a workgroup
... and loads of other features
So when a FH file gets corrupted you can just revert to last
version and go from there. You can safely delete corrupted file and
Checkout a new working copy from last uncorrupted version.
Seems it is available for Mac as well using the SCPlugin to
    access TortoiseSVN in Finder
    http://scplugin.tigris.org/
This is with no doubt the best piece of freeware I've ever
installed and has saved my sorry *** twice during a 100 page guide
    book project!

After an accidentally shutdown my database wont start up smothly.
If I type 'connect internal' and 'startup'
in the svrmgrl it comes up with
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01578: ORACLE data block corrupted (file #1, block #164)
    ORA-01110: data file 1:'oradata/service/system01.dbf'
Is there anything I could do for recovery ?
I already tried 'restore database' but without any big success.
    Help is appreciated.
    thanks,

  • Cubename.Ind file Corruption

We are facing a strange issue in our planning database. The data is getting distributed to wrong cross section while runnig calcs (like copy version calc). Also some other starnge behaviour like extra data in some area where it shouldn't be there.
I guess the the index file is corrupt. How to know databas eis corrupt? Its starting and stoping and The VALIDATE esscmd is useless as always in detecting index file corruption.
I am seeing the cubename.ind file for one cube is 1KB while for other 1014KB. How does this change? Any suggestion to approach this issue will be much appreciated.

Okay, if you can create a valid Essbase database (loads from level 0, can be aggregated), take one of your problem calcs and run it against the new database.
I'll bet that it does the same strange thing, whatever that is. Something changed in the database structure that you don't see/someone else did and didn't bother to tell you/you did in a flash of genius but really shouldn't have or maybe all three.
The fix isn't to recreate, but to track down what it's doing and what's going on in the code versus the hierarchies.
Applications have ways of changning, even when they are supposedly locked down. That is especially true with Planning with multiple administrators. I've been down that path before -- it can be very frustrating even when you finally identify the problem. FWIW, Plannnig's audit feature can help with this, although if you don't have it turned on it's a bit after the fact.
    Seek and ye shall find.
