Database Creation Issue.

Hi,
I have successfully installed Oracle 10g on Solaris 8.
But when I try to create the DB using DBCA during the start of the DB creation at around 2% I get a "TNS: network adapter error"
Does anybody know the reason for this error?
Thanks in advance.

This error means:
ORA-12560:     TNS:protocol adapter error
Cause:     A generic protocol adapter error occurred.
Action:     Check addresses used for proper protocol specification. Before reporting this error, look at the error stack and check for lower level transport errors. For further details, turn on tracing and reexecute the operation. Turn off tracing when the operation is complete.
Connectivity issues shouldn't arise at this moment. Are you using your os oracle user to perform this task?
Are your environment variables properly set?

  • RH2.1AS FireWire OCFS database creation issue

I have 2 nodes configure with firewire device and ocfs. Firewire device mounted and oracm started on both node. Database creation looks fine from alert log file. When I try to startup from either node I got ora-0439: feature not enabled: Real Application Clusters. Is any one running into the same problem or just missing some step from my end?
    Garry

I find the option 'Oracle9i Real Application Clusters' under Enterprise Edition Options. As long as OCM is running, I don't know why you wouldn't see it...
Regarding gsd and srvctl: as far as I know they weren't deprecated or anything with 9.2.0.3. If there's something else you're supposed to use to start and stop nodes and/or the whole cluster I'd be interested to hear about it. Anyway, gsd and srvctl have been working fine, even after patching to 9.2.0.3.
For what it's worth, we gave up on OCFS (for now). We're using RedHat Advanced Server 2.1 Developer's Edition, and the kernel update (2.4.20) from www.ocfs.org. We spent a lot of time trying to get OCFS 1.0.8 to work but were never fully successful. Most of the time we couldn't run OCM on more than one node. Occasionally it worked, but then Oracle would report strange IO errors at the system level. After we switched to using raw devices on the shared firewire drive everything worked perfectly. We're going to wait and see what further OCFS development brings...

  • Stanby database creation issue

Created a my first build for a standby database on March1.
Am lagging the standby instance 24 hrs behind the primary instance.
At one point the lag fell up to 50 hours behind, all problems solved until today.
alert log refs to a datafile created in primary, but was not replicated to standby. I have found documentation about taking primary Dfile offline and replicating this.
I can't do this as its a high avail system (primary).
I know documentation says this change did not replicate due to not having STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT set to auto.
My questions are so I can catch up to the lag are....
Can the standby be opened up in read-write and new Dfile applied some how with out issues to come? the documentation shows how to apply manually when neither are added but predicted. But not when one in the primary has been added already.
Or are there any further ideas to the situation?
    TIA, questions welcome

Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
    Go to tahiti.oracle.com.
Drill down to your product and version.
    <b><i><u>BOOKMARK THAT LOCATION</u></i></b>
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are <b><i><u>reference</b></i></u> manuals. Just get familiar with <b><i><u>what</b></i></u> is there to <b><i><u>be</b></i></u> referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
    - Take a look in your alert log. One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them (listed in your alert log) in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

    Hi,
If you getting a problem with DBCA go for manually process:-
I had listed steps which I follow
Step 1: Decide on Your Instance's System Identifier (SID)
Step 2: Create the Initialization Parameter File
Note:- Name the copied init.ora file init<SID>.ora because this is the default naming convention that the Oracle server looks for when it tries to start up the instance ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory (exists over the prefered path)
Edit this file's parameters so that your database and your instance will run effectively on your system.
DB_NAME Must be set to a text string of eight characters or less. During database creation, the value assigned to DB_NAME is recorded in the database's datafiles, redo log files, and control files. If, when you attempt to start the database instance, the value of DB_NAME as recorded in the initialization parameter file and the database name in the control files are not the same, the database will not start.
DB_DOMAIN A text string that specifies the network domain where the database is created.
CONTROL_FILES Is assigned the comma-separated list of control file names to use for the new database. When you execute the CREATE DATABASE statement, the control files listed as values assigned to this parameter are created. If you fail to specify a filename for the CONTROL_FILES parameter, Oracle creates a file with a default operating system dependant filename.
DB_BLOCK_SIZE Specifies the standard block size of the database. This size is used in the creation of the system tablespace and by default in any other tablespaces created. Take care when determining what this value should be because after the database is created, the value cannot be changed.
UNDO_MANAGEMENT Determines whether the database starts in automatic undo management mode. A value of AUTO enables automatic undo management; MANUAL enables manual undo management mode. In 9i, AUTO is suggested, but MANUAL is default.
UNDO_TABLESPACE When the instance starts in automatic undo management mode, it needs to have a tablespace in which to store its undo information. The default is SYS_UNDOTBS and is automatically created if you execute a CREATE DATABASE statement with the UNDO_MANAGEMENT initialization parameter set to AUTO and no UNDO TABLESPACE statement in the CREATE DATABASE statement.
Step 3: Connect to and Start the Instance
Connect to the instance as SYSDBA either using operating system authentication or the password file method of authentication and start up the instance using the STARTUP command.
    sqlplus '/ as sysdba'
If your parameter file is not in the default location or is not named init<SID>.ora, you may need to specify the PFILE clause in the STARTUP command for the instance to start.
Because you do not yet have a database attached to the instance, you need to start up the instance in NOMOUNT state:
    startup nomount;
The instance is now started and ready for the CREATE DATABASE command.
Step 4: Issue the CREATE DATABASE Statement
    create database mydb1 controlfile reuse
    Logfile
    Group 1 ('/mydb1/log1/log01a.log',
    '/mydb2/mydb1/log01b.log') size 50M,
    Group 2 ('/mydb1/log1/log02a.log',
    '/mydb2/log1/log02b.log') size 50M,
    Group 3 ('/mydb1/log1/log03a.log',
    '/mydb2/mydb1/log03b.log') size 50M
    Datafile '/mydb1/mydb1_system.dbf' 250M
    AUTOEXTEND ON MAXSIZE 500M
    Undo tablespace mydb1_undo1
    Datafile '/mydb/mydb1/mydb1_undo1.dbf' 50M
    Default temporary tablespace mydb1temp tempfile
    '/mydb/mydb1/mydb1temp1.dbf' size 75M
    Extent management local
    Character set US7ASCII

  • Oracle 9i manual database creation on the Red Hat 9 Linux

I installed Oracle 9I on the Red Hat 9 Linux successfully with automatic database creation.
I tried to create second database manually and everything seemed to be fine until I issued create database statement. I got the following error:

Ok I am having the same exact problem and I am typing this into the shell before I run the installer.

I thought that would fix the problem but it still hangs and gives the same message as the other guy gets. How can I solve this problem and get the installer running? I would really appreciate any help. This is the message I get:

  • Create database on RAC environment - DBCA hangs on clone database creation

    Hi, friends!
I have two vm´s (vmware 2) with OEL 5 installed.
I´ve installed OGI and database software sucessfully. So, my crs stack is working fine in both two nodes.
However, when i use DBCA to create a database in this RAC environment, it hangs when it gets on "clone database creation", about 52% of the progress bar.
My DBCA logs don´t point any error out. It just hangs on..
I wait about 4 hours and it doesn´t move on.
I searched and found many cases like that, including here in OTN. But it seems nobody could find a resolution to this issue.
Is there any bug about OEL 5 and database 11gR2??
    More details:
I apllied the patch "p8670579_112010_LINUX" on both OGI installation (before root.sh) and databae software install (also before root.sh).
    Everything worked fine.
    Sorry for the grammar errors.

you can trace dbca, and you can found witch step is occurs problem.
can you paste here last 15-20 sentence of dbca trace file?

  • Database Creation Error in 9.2.0.1.0

Installed 9i on a Win2K Pro machine. Software installation was successful (as far as I can tell). Able to connect to external Oracle DB's without problem.
However, when creating a local Oracle DB on my machine, I get TNS:packet writer failure errors during the initilization. This seems to happen during every install of a DB I try. The exception is if I log into the machine under the machine's administrator account, vice my domain account. Even though both accounts have the same access to the machine, the database creation will only complete under the machines' administrator account. Then if I do get the DB installed under the administrator. I can't connect to it when logged into the domain becuase I get end-of-file errors. Other user can successfully connect to the DB from separate boxes, but I can't connect locally. Nothing I have found so far can explain why this is happening. What else should I look at as possibly causing this problem. Or are their issues with installing the Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 DB on a domain.

  • Session creation issues with DS3.2

We are using BODS 3.2 for development. We are aware that a newer version of DS has been released quite a long time ago but due to some reasons we are still using DS 3.2.
We are facing some session creation issues. We are using Teradata and Oracle as source and extracting\updating data using some SQLs in script tasks. SQLs are targeting huge amount of data. We executed a job and checked on the servers, sessions were created on the databases. Job kept on executing for long time and was not getting completed, there was no error also. After waiting so long, I checked on Database server and found that session was lost for these SQLs on Database servers. We are able to create a successful connection using Data Stores.
Please suggest something, Why the sessions are not getting lost on the database servers?.

    Any known issues like these?
There must be some common factor why both phones are having the same problem.
With the 10.2.1.537, the only problem I had was a few contacts merged and surnames were repeated.
I haven't noticed any difference with the latest upgrade.
Maybe a security wipe and restore contacts and email then one app at a time.

  • JumpStartKit install hangs at 87% complete during database creation / instance configuration

Hello folks, I'm wanting to evaluate Oracle WebCenter Portal 11.1.1.8 (huge improvement over 11.1.1.7, which I have already gave a quick try in the VDI provided by Oracle).
So I found out about this Jump Start Kit, which installs each required piece once you've got a properly configured Linux environment. I had some fun with the prereqs but now that's all completed and I got SO EXCITED to make it past "STEP 4".
So now I'm encountering the same issue during installation -- in STEP 6 of 22 Configuration of Database Instance (Completing Database Creation) it gets to 87% complete and then nothing seems to happen, it never gets beyond that point even if I wait 10 more hours:
NOTE: I suspect my issue is not specific to the "Jump Start Kit", but rather it is something others have encountered during the Database creation/configuration step of the Oracle Universal Installer in general. And hopefully others have solved it.
"/opt/oracle/portal" is my INSTALL_DIR ; I had launched the JSK installer with this command:
    ./runme INSTANCE_PASSWORD=apwd ROOT_PASSWORD=rpwd DOWNLOAD_DIR=/media/sf_Downloads/JSKfiles INSTALL_DIR=/opt/oracle/portal
    - The installer makes it this far, before it seems to get "stuck" -- even after many hours there is no change, HD is not doing anything, CPU stays at <5% usage:

I am using VirtualBox on Windows 7, I have tried it multiple times, first with the guest OS as Oracle Linux 6, and then Oracle Linux 5 (fun learning about updating the version of Java!).
It always gets to the same point and then it just seems to do nothing -- no progress, but no error message on-screen (see log files below). But it seems to be using less than 5% CPU usage... and waiting 10 hours makes no difference.
Based on what I found in tons of Google searching, I tried increasing my swap file, adding more memory and HD space (12GB RAM and 10GB sap and 20GB free hard drive space) but still nothing changed.
In post #2 of this thread I will separately provide the logging details, which I hope will be helpful.
    Thanks in advance!
    Darren.
PS: moderator, I attempted to create this thread in other Spaces because I did not know about this "Portal JSK" specific one -- was that why my thread was rejected? NO REASON WAS GIVEN. If that WAS the reason, I have to say that it will be nearly impossible for anyone who is able to help me to actually FIND this thread here because as I said I do not think it specific to ONLY the Portal JSK. (But I will post it only here just in case that's the reason for the previous rejections)

First off, thank you very much for not just deleting the other 2 threads -- I intentionally created them in the other 2 spaces that MIGHT find a set of eyes that can help -- but in both I linked to THIS thread because this is the specific product. So this is the only place replies will be found therefore no "duplication" to worry about... but as I said this is likely not specific to PortalJSK since others on the internet have described a similar problem during the Oracle database installation.
Second of all. here we go, the log contents...
...So in the hope that I could troubleshoot based on some error logging, I had a look inside "/opt/oracle/portal/db/OraInventory/logs/"...
    - "/opt/oracle/portal/db/OraInventory/logs/oraInstall2014-06-10_03-27-37PM.err" is empty (0 bytes),
    - "/opt/oracle/portal/db/OraInventory/logs/installActions2014-06-10_03-27-37PM.log" * (2.3MB) ends with...
    INFO: Terminating all background operations
    INFO: Terminated all background operations
INFO: Successfully executed the flow in SILENT mode
INFO: Finding the most appropriate exit status for the current application
    INFO: Exit Status is 0
INFO: Shutdown Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Installer
    INFO: Unloading Setup Driver
    [eof]
I am not sure of the value of the additional log files inside "/opt/oracle/run/logs/", here is what they contain...
    - all of the "/opt/oracle/run/logs/xyz_NofN.zip.unzip.out" files are empty (0 bytes).
    - "/opt/oracle/run/logs/install_commands.log" is tiny, it just has this:
/media/sf_Downloads/JSKfiles/DB/database/runInstaller -invPtrLoc /opt/oracle/run/linux64/dborainst.loc  -ignoreSysPrereqs  -ignorePrereq -force -silent -waitforcompletion -responseFile /opt/oracle/run/linux64/db_generated.rsp
    /opt/oracle/portal/db/ohome/bin/netca /orahome /opt/oracle/portal/db/ohome /orahnam orcl /instype typical /inscomp client,oraclenet,javavm,server,ano /insprtcl tcp /cfg local /authadp NO_VALUE /responseFile /opt/oracle/run/linux64/netca.rsp /silent
/opt/oracle/portal/db/ohome/bin/dbca -silent -responseFile /opt/oracle/run/linux64/dbca.rsp  -sampleSchema true -oratabLocation ORATAB
    - "webtier_prereqs.log" and "ecm_prereqs.log" and "wcprereqs.log" all say that all tests passed.
(Tests for HD and RAM space and swap size and # of processes etc. are all SUCCESS; and all required packages are installed and high enough version, etc.)
    - "/opt/oracle/run/logs/dbprereqs_log.txt" says this:
    Starting Oracle Universal Installer...
Checking Temp space: must be greater than 120 MB.   Actual 8855 MB    Passed
Checking swap space: must be greater than 150 MB.   Actual 4031 MB    Passed

CAUSE: Some of the optional prerequisites are not met. See logs for details. /opt/oracle/portal/db/OraInventory/logs/installActions2014-06-10_03-26-23PM.log
ACTION: Identify the list of failed prerequisite checks from the log: /opt/oracle/portal/db/OraInventory/logs/installActions2014-06-10_03-26-23PM.log. Then either from the log file or from installation manual find the appropriate configuration to meet the prerequisites and fix it manually.
    - "/opt/oracle/run/logs/wls-install.log" is the most confusing, maybe this is the reason for getting "stuck"?

    re. PROCESSES/TASKS at the ending:
Also I had a look in System Monitor and noticed there a TON of processes ("Sleeping") that show up in System Monitor at this time of "freezing" or "hanging" or whatever you want to call it (where nothing is visibly happening anymore).
-The most recent shell script is "install_db_instance.sh" (not surprising) with Waiting Channel "do_wait".
    #!/bin/bash
    export JSK_DIR=${PWD}
    . $JSK_DIR/setup_env.sh
    export ORACLE_HOME=$DB_ORACLE_HOME
    export ORACLE_BASE=$DB_ORACLE_BASE
    echo ""
#$DB_ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbca -createDatabase -templateName $JSK_DIR/General_Purpose.dbc -gdbName orcl -sid orcl -sysPassword $SCHEMA_PASSWORD -systemPassword $SCHEMA_PASSWORD -emConfiguration LOCAL -dbsnmpPassword $SCHEMA_PASSWORD -sysmanPassword $SCHEMA_PASSWORD -datafileJarLocation $DB_ORACLE_HOME/assistants/dbca/templates/ -storageType FS -datafileDestination $DB_ORACLE_DATA -responseFile NO_VALUE -characterset AL32UTF8 -obfuscatedPasswords false -sampleSchema true -oratabLocation ORATAB -recoveryAreaDestination NO_VALUE -silent
echo "$ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbca -silent -responseFile $JSK_DIR/dbca.rsp  -sampleSchema true -oratabLocation ORATAB" >> $LOGS_DIR/install_commands.log
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbca -silent -responseFile $JSK_DIR/dbca.rsp  -sampleSchema true -oratabLocation ORATAB
    cat $JSK_DIR/dbca.rsp | grep -v -i PASSWORD > $JSK_DIR/dbca_saved_no_passwords.rsp
    rm -f $JSK_DIR/dbca.rsp
    echo ""
-Immediately after that is "java" with this Command Line:
    /opt/oracle/portal/db/ohome/jdk/jre/bin/java -DORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle/portal/db/ohome [parameters] -DJDBC_PROTOCOL=thin -mx128m -classpath /opt/oracle/portal/db/ohome/assistants/dbca/jlib/dbca.jar:[otherJarFiles]:/opt/oracle/portal/db/ohome/dv/jlib/dvca.jar oracle.sysman.assistants.dbca.Dbca -silent -responseFile /opt/oracle/run/linux64/dbca.rsp -sampleSchema true -oratabLocation ORATAB
-There are 7 named "oracleorcl" where the Command Line is simply "oracleorcl (LOCAL=NO)" or "oracleorcl (DESCRIPTION=(LOCAL=YES)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=beq)))" -- Waiting Channel is "sk_wait_data".
-There are 52 named "oracle" with various similar-looking Command Lines. The Waiting Channel for these varies: "poll_schedule_timeout", or "hrtimer_nanosleep", or "sys_semtimedop" (the 2 highest ProcessIDs -- aka most recent -- have this, with Command Line "ora_w000_orcl" and "xe_w000_XE").
-There are 3 named "sqlplus", their Command Lines are "/opt/oracle/portal/db/ohome/bin/sqlplus -S -N" (the oldest 2), or "/opt/oracle/portal/db/ohome/bin/sqlplus" (the most recent) -- Waiting Channel is "pipe_wait".

  • Backendstore database creation fails lync 2013

Backendstore database creation fails at step 2 installing lync components. I can physically watch the database appear then disappear in the csdata/backendstore/rtc/dbpath. File rtcxds.mdf. I'm running server 2012 and SQL 2012 express. Installing standard
edition. I have uninstalled everything 3x and keep erroring out at this point. Firewall is also off. My topology also publishes without error. Here is the error Feature: BackendStore 1/27/2013 3:38:52 PM └ SQL Instance: zeus.athena.local\rtc 1/27/2013 3:38:52

I am seeing exactly the same issue when I tried to setup lync server 2013 in Azure, here is what I did:
    1. Created a domain controller (Active Direcotry Forest) on Windows Server 2008 R2 following instructions at
    https://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/manage/services/networking/active-directory-forest/
    3. Created another Virtual machine  from Azure management portal using Windows 2012 Data Center and joined it to the local  domain
    4. Logged into the 2012 server as domain administrator and tried to setup a standalone front end Lync Server following step to step instructions at
    http://windowspbx.blogspot.com/2012/07/step-by-step-installing-lync-server.html
    5. Everything goes on very well before "Step2 Setup Lync Server components (will install Speechfiles, etc) "
    The error messages are:

State of database rtcxds is DbState_DoesNotExist.
Creating database rtcxds from scratch. Data File Path = c:\CsData\BackendStore\rtc\DbPath, Log File Path= c:\CsData\BackendStore\rtc\LogPath.

Could anyone please let me know how can i fix this issue...

The key of the problem may be found here:
    SP2-0306: Invalid option.
    Usage: CONN[ECT] [logon] [AS {SYSDBA|SYSOPER}]
    where <logon> ::= <username>[<password>][@<connect_identifier>] | /
Which means the dbca is not recognizing some parameter. Initial database creation assumes you are able to connect as sysda without a password, Which means you should be able to connect as a valid user with ORA_DBA and connect as batch privileges. If you are installing with domain related authentication issues, then it could be the most likely reason dbca is not able to go ahead with installation.
    1. Determine if you are connected with the ORA_DBA group privilege. It should be so if you are locally connected (not with a domain account)
    2. Verfiy if you are able to connect as sysdba, open a sql prompt this way:
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    3. If you are able to connect, it means your authentication mechanism is properly working.
    4. Verify the contents of the alert.log associated with the instance, some error message there will bring light on this issue.
Please feedback on the results of this initial troubleshooting procedure.

  • LiveCache Installation (Database creation) problems

    We are trying to install liveCache 7.6.29 (SCM 5.0 SR2), during the database creation phase we are encountering the below error;

Please let me know if any of you have faced this issue and resolved the same.
Eagerly waiting for your reply, as this is a high priority for me.
    Regards,
    Thilaka

    Hi Thilaka,
hm, why are you now askig the forum when you've direct email contact with me?
Anyway, this really should be handled over OSS...
    Just fyi:
It seems that SAPINST is trying to issue the following command:
    /sapdb/programs/bin/dbmcli -n ql1ap01.cardinalhealth.net -R /sapdb/QL1/db db_create QL1 CONTROL,******** ql1adm,
Can you try and see if you can issue it from the commandline on your machine (with the same user, i.e. probably root)? Please do not forget to add the password of the ql1adm, which is either not visible in the above command or forgotten (by SAPINST):
    /sapdb/programs/bin/dbmcli -n ql1ap01.cardinalhealth.net -R /sapdb/QL1/db db_create QL1 CONTROL,******** ql1adm,<b><password></b>
After issueing this, please try to continue using SAPINST (and please update the OSS message accordingly).
    Regards,
    Roland
