Database creation (via dbca) results in tns-04414 error
All
I am having a problem in that when I am trying to create a standalone database using dbca it results in an error of tns-04414: file error. I have checked the tnsnames and listener files for any oddities, and nothing standing out. Does anyone have any ideas what causes this error? Unfortunately, I had this happen previously and I worked my way through it, but no longer remember the fix.
Any help is greatly appreciatted.
Thanks.
Have you checked that tns entry ??Hmmm, as fas as I know while creating a NEW database using DBCA, DBCA doesn't use any TNS entry so why its so??
Correct me if i am wrong.

Edited by: user647572 on Sep 9, 2010 6:02 AMHi -
I cannot get dbca to display on my xp machine.
I installed xming and have xclock running.
Started putty and enabled X11, and this is the result:
echo $DISPLAY
localhost:11.0
When I start running dbca, I basically get no response.
It is running on the linux server, but I get no display (X window)
to work from. My colleague has experienced the exact same
issue.
Thanks for your attention,

Error in installing Database Control with Database Creation Assistant
I'm trying to install the Database Control on Win2003 with the Database Creation Assistant. I get the following error. D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\ECOMDB\pfile\init.ora (The system cannot find the path specified).
Our init.ora file is not in that path and our file is named initECOMDB.ora. How do I tell DBCA the correct path and file name to use?
By the way I'm a unix guy and this is the first time I've done Oracle on Windows. The database had been created by someone else and the files are sort of slung all over the place.
Replies appreciated.
KirkOpen initECOMDB.ora, it may be calling D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\ECOMDB\pfile\init.ora which does not exist. Change it to the correct directory or remove it if all the required parameters are already in initECOMDB.ora. The line to look for is ifile
BTW - if your database has already been created, you can create its database control from the command line:
emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create -

ThilakaHi Thilaka,
hm, why are you now askig the forum when you've direct email contact with me?
Anyway, this really should be handled over OSS...
Just fyi:
It seems that SAPINST is trying to issue the following command:
/sapdb/programs/bin/dbmcli -n ql1ap01.cardinalhealth.net -R /sapdb/QL1/db db_create QL1 CONTROL,******** ql1adm,
Can you try and see if you can issue it from the commandline on your machine (with the same user, i.e. probably root)? Please do not forget to add the password of the ql1adm, which is either not visible in the above command or forgotten (by SAPINST):
/sapdb/programs/bin/dbmcli -n ql1ap01.cardinalhealth.net -R /sapdb/QL1/db db_create QL1 CONTROL,******** ql1adm,<b><password></b>
After issueing this, please try to continue using SAPINST (and please update the OSS message accordingly).

i tried atleast 2 to 3 times from scratch but found the same error....................
ORA: 19624
ORA: 19870
here are the steps can somebody correct these steps..................
Create Virtual Disks from VM Ware software when server is down.
Choose Edit Virtual Machine Settings.
Click on Add button
Press Next and Highlight Hard Disk, then click Next
Check ‘Create a New Virtual Disk’
Choose SCSI as type
Select Size as 2 GB
Name the virtual disk as ‘ASMDBF1.vmdk’
Create additional disks as:
ASMDBF1.vmdk for DBF files
ASMDBF2.vmdk Failover group
ASMFRA.vmdk Flash Back Recovery Area
ASMREDO.vmdk Redo Log Area
ASMARCH.vmdk Archived Logs
• Start up the server OraWorld1
• Go to Disk Management and you will be prompted with a screen which should display all five disks with a check mark. Accept defaults and Click next.
• On second script all five will be unchecked, click Next
• Press Finish to complete and you should see all 5 disks as Type Basic Unallocated. For each of the disk perform:
1. Right click, New Partition, Extended Partition and Finish
2. Right click, New Logical drive, Do not assign drive letter nor partition it.
3. From command prompt type Diskpart and enter Automount enable.
4. From command prompt, configure basic CRS services as
5. C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1>localconfig add
6. C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1>localconfig add
7. Step 1: creating new OCR repository
8. Successfully accumulated necessary OCR keys.
9. Creating OCR keys for user 'administrator', privgrp ''..
10. Operation successful.
11. Step 2: creating new CSS service
12. successfully created local CSS service
13. successfully added CSS to home
• Launch DBCA and choose Configure Storage Management.
• Select Create New group, choose stamp disks which will show you all of your five disks. Configure ASM links to all these disks as:
1. ORCLDISKASMDBF1 \Device\Harddisk1\Partition1
2. ORCLDISKASMDBF2 \Device\Harddisk2\Partition1
3. ORCLDISKASMFRA \Device\Harddisk3\Partition1
4. ORCLDISKASMREDO \Device\Harddisk4\Partition1
5. ORCLDISKASMARCH \Device\Harddisk5\Partition1
Now make Change Disk Discovery Path as Null and you should see all disks.
Now create Disk groups as :
ARCH \\.\ORCLDISKASMARCH External 1GB
REDO \\.\ORCLDISKASMREDO External 1GB
FRA \\.\ORCLDISKASMFRA External 2GB
DBF (MAIN GROUP WITH 2 SUB-GROUPS) Must create as Normal Redundancy
DBFP \\.\ORCLDISKASMDBF1 External 2GB
DBFS \\.\ORCLDISKASMDBF2 External 2GB
You now have a running ASM instance on the server.
• Checking ASM instance
You can always use DBCA to check settings of ASM.
Alternatively, go to command prompt:
Set ORACLE_SID=+ASM
Sqlplus /nolog
Connect sys/password as sysdba
Show sga (80MB)
Total System Global Area 83886080 bytes
Fixed Size 1247420 bytes
Variable Size 57472836 bytes
ASM Cache 25165824 bytes
SQL>desc You can then check C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\database for these files. You can also view v$parameter for all possible values for ASM instance.
+asm.asm_diskgroups='DATA1','ARCH','REDO','FRA','DBF'#Manual Mount
*.asm_diskgroups='DATA1','ARCH','REDO','FRA','DBF'
*.asm_diskstring=''
*.background_dump_dest='C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\+ASM\bdump'
*.core_dump_dest='C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\+ASM\cdump'
*.instance_type='asm'
*.large_pool_size=12M
*.remote_login_passwordfile='SHARED'
*.user_dump_dest='C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\+ASM\udump'
You can change some of the values like large pool and even db cache size. You can also manually create the disk group as:
Create diskgroup DBF NORMAL redundancy
Failgroup flgrp1 disk ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA0’, ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA1’
Failgroup flgrp2 disk ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA2’, ‘\\.\ORCLDISKDATA3’;
Check Candidate disks:
select group_number, disk_number, mount_status, header_status, state, path from v$asm_disk;
Other useful queries:
Select group_number, name, total_mb, free_mb, state, type
From v$asm_diskgroup;
Select group_number, disk_number, mount_status, header_status, state, path, failgroup
From v$asm_disk;
You can use sql commands to perform most of the ASM tasks, however EM console can also be used here
Oracle Database Installation
• Launch DBCA
• Choose Create Database and select OLTP type
• Name it as ORCL2, choose ASM as file system, select all disk groups to be used.
• Use oracle managed files as:+DBF press Next
*• Specify Flash Recovery Area as +FRA*
*• Enable archiving at +ARCH*
*• Choose Auto SGA as 55% of memory*
*• Leave else default and complete DB creation.*
*• Launch NetConfig and define Listener with default settings.* here i received the errors,.................
Database ORCL2 is created with the following attributes:
NAME: ORCL2
SPFILE: +ARCH/ORCL2/spfileORCL2.ora
URL: http://oraworld1:1158/emStrange, those messages are RMAN backup errors -- are you trying to backup the database?
Or...if you selected "create starter database" it may be that dbca is not finding the backup files from the "demo" database.

Create database on RAC environment - DBCA hangs on clone database creation
Hi, friends!
I have two vm´s (vmware 2) with OEL 5 installed.
I´ve installed OGI and database software sucessfully. So, my crs stack is working fine in both two nodes.
However, when i use DBCA to create a database in this RAC environment, it hangs when it gets on "clone database creation", about 52% of the progress bar.
My DBCA logs don´t point any error out. It just hangs on..
I wait about 4 hours and it doesn´t move on.
I searched and found many cases like that, including here in OTN. But it seems nobody could find a resolution to this issue.
Is there any bug about OEL 5 and database 11gR2??
More details:
I apllied the patch "p8670579_112010_LINUX" on both OGI installation (before root.sh) and databae software install (also before root.sh).
Everything worked fine.
Sorry for the grammar errors.you can trace dbca, and you can found witch step is occurs problem.
can you paste here last 15-20 sentence of dbca trace file?

Can't start EM after creating DB via DBCA
I have now installed, uninstalled and re-installed 10G about five times on my W2K laptop without being able to successfully start EM or log into a DB via SQLPlus, etc.
There are two issues I am experiencing:
1) If I am not connected to the web thru my laptop (online), I cannot even reference EM. I have set my internet connection to Never dial a connection so it will not keep prompting me to connect, but this has been to no avail. If I open my browser and work offline and try to use the link to EM, it will not let me--it will give me the standard web page not found, detect network settings, etc screen.
2) If I am online, the EM web page comes up and tells me that my DB is not started and that I have to login as SYSDBA to start it. Despite using the correct OS userid/pwd and oracle userid SYS/pwd for the database login, it continues to tell me that the userid is wrong!
I cannot log into the DB as sysdba or otherwise via SQLPLUS. I can do "sqlplus /nolog" to get into sqlplus but can't connect to anything--it gives me the TNS-adapter error: not found' error message.
Now, I just did a fresh install and used DBCA to create a starter DB called test. I do not see a listener but on my last install (same problems as now) when I created one thru Net Mgr or Net Config Asst, it didn't matter as it wouldn't allow it to start in my services. There was already a OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener service set to AUTOMATIC and my new one (which it called OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener1Test) was set to manual and could not be started. LSNRCTL said that the new listener was blocked, so I assumed that 10G was using the EZCONNECT naming method and did not need the new listener.
What gives? Any help would be very much appreciated as I am at a complete standstill.
Thanks!
DaveSorry about that. I could not ping my instance, I CAN ping my laptop. I attached the lsnrctl and emctl results as well. It looks like it is still pointing to a previous DB that has been uninstalled that I no longer have (called dv2)?

Hi Friends,
OS = Windows XP 3
Database = Oracle 11g R2 32 bit
Processor= intel p4 2.86 Ghz
Ram = 2 gb
Virtual memory = 4gb
I was able to install the oracle 11g successfully, but during installation at the time of database creation I got the following error many times and I ignored it many times... but at 55% finally My installation was hanged nothing was happening after it.....
ORA-28056: Writing audit records to Windows Event Log failed Error and at 55% my Installation got hung,,,, I end the installation and tried to create the database afterward by DBCA but same thing happened....
Please some one help me out, as i need to install on the same machine .....

Thanks Now I am able to Create a database , but with one error,
When I created a database using DBCA, at the last stage I got this error,
Database Configuration Assistant : Warning
Enterprise Manager Configuration Failed due to the Following error Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it. Start the listener & Registered database service & run EM Configuration Assistant again....
But when I checked the listener was up.....
Now what was the problem, I am able to connect and work through sqlplus,
But I didnt got the link of EM and when try to create a new connection in sql developer it is giving error ( Status : failure - Test Failed the Network Adapter could not establish the connection )
Thanks & Regards
Creation of the dbcontrol requires a connection via the listener. When configuring the dbcontrol as part of database creation, it appears that the dbcontrol creation step runs before the dynamic registration of the databsase with the listener is complete. Now that the database itself is completed and enough time (really, just a minute or two) has passed to allow the instance to register, use dbca or emca to create the dbcontrol.
Are you able to get a sqlplus connection via the listener (sqlplus scott/tiger@orcl)? That needs to be the first order of business. -
Oracle 9i installation hanging in "Clone Database Creation in Process"
Hi all,
I have been struggling in installing the 9i in my laptop.
Here is my setup,
OS: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 in VMWare
Database: Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1.0
When it automatically comes to "Database Configuration Assistant", there are 4 steps.
Copying Database files
Initializing Database
Creating and starting Oracle Instance
Completing database creation
The 1st 3 steps has been completed and the installation just hangs at the last step when the completion rate is 88%.
Anyone got problem like this ?
Here are the details I have so far for the DBCA during installation process,
Listener Control complete.
Listener start failed. Listener may already be running.
Listener configuration complete.
Default local naming configuration complete.
Oracle Net Services configuration successful. The exit code is 0
Since I am completely new to installing DB, please help me to get rid of this frustration.
Thanks !
