Database Desgin Documentation
Hi,
Can you please tell me where I can find any documentation and/or on-line course for database design for oracle designers?
Cheers KD
I added a topic to chapter 4 of the Database Upgrade Guide: About OPatch Commands After Upgrading Oracle Database, I added a link to Oracle OPatch User's Guide for Windows and UNIX. The OPatch User's Guide contains an appendix with the commands and syntax for OPatch. You must run OPatch from the new Oracle home after you upgrade.

Oracle database architecture documentation
Hi,
Any one can send oracle 9i/10g database architecture documentation. What do you mean by Architecture documentation? Concepts about Oracle architecture?
Did you go through the documentation?

Please post such questions in Database-General forum. This forum is for reporting issues with Oracle documentation. -
Download link for Oracle Database 10g Documentation seems to be broken.
Hi,
I am trying to download the documentation for Oracle Database 10g but the zip archive seems to be corrupt. The md5 checksum for the file I have downloaded is:
$> md5 Downloads/B19306_01.zip
MD5 (Downloads/B19306_01.zip) = 75551f2bb5cfeecedcd08e2e6ac71bf7
and the unzip output is:
$> unzip Downloads/B19306_01.zip
Archive: Downloads/B19306_01.zip
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of Downloads/B19306_01.zip or
Downloads/B19306_01.zip.zip, and cannot find Downloads/B19306_01.zip.ZIP, period.
Also, the file size of my downloaded file is 443.4 MB but the size mentioned on the download page is 445.8 MB
I have twice tried to download the file but both times I get the same corrupt zip error. Can any one confirm the status of the file.

PDK Database Portlet Documentation
Is there any document in the PDK that lays out the required procedures and functions that are required in the provider specification in order for it to work? All of the documents that say "How to build a portlet" give instructions by saying, "take our example and change X, Y and Z". Also, the documents describing the different display modes only seem to give tips on presentation, not development. The only place I really see anything technical is in the API documentation, but then that only helps if you know what you are looking for. Was the PDK desgined for producer-types rather than developers?
Thanks for the comments. Our goal in the November release of the PDK was to get people started w/ building portlets quickly. In the PL/SQL case, we used step-by-step instructions on modifying existing code to illustrate a very common method for getting started.
I expect that the Starter Provider sample is what you are looking for. The code samples are liberally commented and we expected that developers looking for more in-depth descriptions would probably look at the code first and come back to the articles.
In this case, the Starter Provider lists and comments all the APIs needed to get started building database providers.
Additionally, much of what people perceive as a portlet has to do with its rendition so there was quite a bit of focus on display.
The PDK is certainly a developer resource but I agree that we could do a better job in calling out the existing content so that people will know it's there.
Likewise, if you have other suggestions, we are happy to hear them. -
Database structure documentation tool
I have been asked to include the database structure of our application in the help. It doesn't look as though there is a tool within RH that will do this but I thought it was worth asking in case it's hidden away somewhere.
If not, there are plenty of tools out there that will do the job but are there any that will integrate best with my RH7 chm and webhelp output?
ThanksHi there
No, there really isn't a tool in RoboHelp that will facilitate that. If you try a different tool you might ensure it outputs HTML files. You would then import the HTML files into a RoboHelp project.

Online Database 12.1 Documentation not responding
Today I'm having extreme problems to do some searches etc, from Oracle Database Online Documentation 12c Release 1 (12.1)
IE10 keeps on freezing/hanging, CPU needs around 50% for that browser session and erroring out saying oracle.com is not responding due to a long running script.
Does anyone else recognize this?Seems I keep getting the "script has stopped running" message whenever I go there. Firefox 23.0.1 on xp. And 24.0

10G database documentation HTML web pages not searchable by IE
Within Internet Explorer (IE) 6.0, I can not use the IE find [<CNTRL> F] capabilities on the 10G database HTML documentation on technet. (I am not an IE novice) For instance, say I was interested in the "KEEP INDEX" parameter of the "ALTER TABLE" command.
I would use the 10G Database HTML documentation for "ALTER TABLE" found at the link,
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96540/statements_32a.htm#SQLRF01001
Then, since this document is 100's of pages long, I would use IE to search the page for what I was looking for - EDIT -> FIND (on this Page). I would type KEEP INDEX in the search box and bang I should find it on the page.
Although this works on every other web site (including the 9i documentation), IE returns the error "Error: 49 Permission Denied". How helpful is a help document that does this?
Please correct this issue!!!!! Please don't ask me to use a PDF either, they are so painfully slow.Further to my earlier post, I have just read an entry noting that if you already own a domain name, and ask your hosting service to forward and mask your iWeb '08 created, web.mac.com site to your personal domain, chances are that due to the masking of the site on web.mac.com, Safari browsers interpret the masking as being the end of the site, and as such, just return a blank page?
This may explain the problem. However, call me old fashioned, and possibly a little naive, but surely this cannot be the problem?? It's OK in Firefox! -
How to access multiple database present in single instance
Hi Team,
In oracle 11.2, can there be multiple databases in an instance??? In one of our environment, I could see multiple databases in an instance. Could you please help me in giving the data dictionary or query to access those databases?
Actually, querying v$database, I could see only one database which is same as instance name. But in inventory, there are multiple database in an instance?
I am still not exactly clear about this. Can someone help me with this?
Thanks!
VidhyaIn Oracle one instance manages one (1) database. A database consists of multiple *schemas*.
Other vendors erroneously call a schema 'database'.
So, no, you didn't see multiple databases.
There is also one datadictionary, consisting of a set of views.
All views beginning with dba_ list the entire database, all schemas.
All views beginning with all_ list the objects you have access to.
All views beginning with user_ list your own objects.
The view DICT show you the contents of the datadictionary.
Oracle also has online documentation at http://docs.oracle.com
From your question it is clear you should read the document called the 'Oracle Concepts Manual'.
You can find all documentation for 11gR2 here Oracle Database Online Documentation 11g Release 2 (11.2)
Too many people here don't make any effort to read it. This is probably the reason why you got no response.

Need Help with my frist database
I am developing a Java application locally with a very simple database.
Where do I begin when I want to make a database? I know SQL but never done a connection to database.
I can do my tables with a database tool program (does Sun have such a program for design of database?)
When I am trying different database tools, they want me to connect to the db-server? What does it mean? How do I choose a db-server (this is not a web application).
Thank you for some advice to push me in the right direction...
KiaI by myself (the writer of this topic), found a great website with instructions in details for newbie like me. I am recommending it to everyone who is doing its first database:
http://www.developer.com/java/data/article.php/3417381
Questions I made before are all answered here, as:
Getting things up and running
As a minimum, getting up and running with MySQL and JDBC involves at least the following steps:
Download and install the appropriate release of the MySQL database server software (several different releases are available).
Download and install the MySQL Connector/J -- for connecting to a MySQL database server from Java.
Download and install the documentation for the MySQL database server.
Download and install the documentation for the Connector, which is a separate documentation package from the database server documentation.
Write and test one or more JDBC programs that will act as a database administrator, creating one or more users and possibly one or more databases on the database server. (I will show you three different ways to accomplish this.)
Write and test a JDBC program that will log in as a user and manipulate data stored in one of those databases.
Nice yeee... This was what I needed...

CTXSYS.Context in Oracle Multitenant Database (Cloud) - is this supported?
Hello guys,
I am new to the world of apex which makes the administration console for the oracle database cloud a trivial ground for me.
I am trying to setup context indextype which i require for some applications on the jcs front end. however, i am having no luck setting up this index types.
I havent been able to find any resources regarding the CTXSYS package within the oracle database cloud documentation so I am hoping someone out here may have a few tips or tricks for me.
How can I grant execute on CTXSYS.CTX_DDL object to my database users?
thanks. There's no oracle text support for database cloud services shamefully.
I cant help but wonder why oracle wont support features of its own product, not something to brag about "Oracle!!!!" -
