Database Development perspective not in list

Hi
I know I'm probably being thick but I can't seem to find the Database Development option in my perspective list any longer.
When I download a fresh copy of ganymede from oracle (with the oepe stuff bundled) and load it up the perspective is
still not in the list. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

I've just downloaded OEPE 11g (Windows all in one zip file) at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oepe/oepe_11g.html. After I unzip it, I was able to go to Database Development perspective.
Did you use OEPE 11g update site and only installed OEPE plugins into your existing workspace? That should still work and you should be able to go to Database Development perspective as long as you are running Eclipse Ganymede (3.4) .
Database Development perspective is part of DTP. Go to Software updates and check your installed software. If you don't see various Data Tool Platform plugins, that might be your problem. You can use Ganymede update site to install Data Tool Platform plugins. Alternatively, if you install OEPE plugins using OEPE update site, it'll automatically install required Data Tool Platform plugins.

• Database Development Perspective

Hi all,
I'm following the following tutorial: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/00bddb57-456c-2b10-cc8d-b6980d75299b
It mentions a "Database Development Perspective" several times, where it seems I should be able to check the "Data Source Explorer" to see the default schema of the database created, and set a dictionary as a datasource.
Well, I'm ubale to find such perspective.
Probably it doesn't appear because of my developer studio version (I'm using 7.0.16). Is there someway I can get this perspective to show up? Maybe I need to download some kind of plugin? Or is there some other way to do what I intend to using the 7.0.16 available perspectives?
Thanks and regards!

Hi,
1. Select the view on Window -> Open Perspective -> Other -> Database Development
or
2. Window -> Show View -> Other -> Connectivity -> Data Source Explorer
If you get an error using Maxdb like:
Unable to locate zip/jar in file system as specified by the driver definition <..sapdb_installation..>
\programs\runtime\jar\sapdbc.jar
3. Point to "sapdbc.jar" file. Use Windows search to find it and create the JDBC connection.
I hope this helps.

• The course I did to gain OCP certification in Oracle Database 11g does not appear on the courses submission list on the website of pearson vue.

The course I did to gain OCP certification in Oracle Database 11g does not appear on the courses submission list on the website of pearson vue, I sent an email to [email protected] from < email address deleted by moderator >, without an answer in 7 days since 01/28/2015, the email is below, the title of my course is in Portuguese.  What should I do in this case ?
Dear Oracle.
I am sending this email because recently I passed in the exam 1Z0-053 Oracle Database 11g: Administration II, which is the last examination necessary to acquire the OCP Certification. However, in the path to the certification I need to prove that I participated in an Oracle Official Training.
Searching for the course on the pearson vue site, I have not found the course name on the list. So I am sending this email with the course information required for certification. I attended to the course in college FIAP (http://www.fiap.com.br/en/conheca-a-fiap/parcerias-estrategicas/), in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, from March/2010 to March/2011. Accessing the link above is possible to verify that the educational institution is an Oracle Partner. The title that I got was "Graduate in Oracle Database Management".
In this email I attached a copy of the FIAP Certified Course (front.jpg certificate, certificate back.jpg). I’m also sending the data from my profile in the pearson vue site (Pearson VUE - My profile.pdf), and my scores in the exams for OCP certification (1Z0-051.pdf, 1Z0-052.pdf, 1Z0-053.pdf ).
If you need any further information just let me know and I will provide.
Please acknowledge this information and grant me the OCP certification (Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Professional).
Regards.
Italo Moisés dos Santos.
Oracle Testing ID:  < deleted by moderator >

Sorry, I expressed myself badly.
When I access http://www.pearsonvue.com/oracle/course/ and start submission process  of the course, in the first step “Select the track for which you have completed a certification requirement” I selected the option “Oracle Database 11g Administrator OCP”, in the second step I selected “ILT = Instructor Led Training”,  but when I got on the third step “Which course or requirement did you complete?”  I have to choose the course name that I did, the course name that I did does not appears in that list, so I do not know which one to select, even having at the end of the form the option “Other ...(Course or requirement is not shown above. Please enter title below.)” the course name I did is in Portuguese/Brazil, the name is “MBA em gestão de banco de dados oracle” in Portuguese, which in English would look like "Graduate in Oracle Database Management".
I sent an email to [email protected] containing the information that I found necessary to obtain certification.
But if I have to do the process in the pearson vue site, should I put the course name in Portuguese or in English ?
Only the email I sent is not enough ?
Thanks for the help, and sorry for my english !

• APEX supports the TimesTen Database development?

Hi all,
Oracle Application Express supports the TimesTen In-Memory Database development?
Thanks,
Jett

Hi Jett,
you probably wanted to post this question in {forum:id=137} or even {forum:id=244}, right?
Anyway, I don't think APEX supports TimesTen, as TimesTen doesn't have all required features and is (hence) not listed in the supported database versions of the Installation Guide.

• 11gR2 Install Error, Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it

Hi all,
I'm currently studying towards my OCA, I've passed 1z0-051 (SQL Fundementals I), and now I'm moving onto 1z0-052 (Admin 1).
Im really having trouble creating a database in Oracle 11g R2 Enterprise Edition. I install the software no problem. Then I create a database, and during the creation I have to createsa listener which uses TCP (default port:1521) and IPC. whilst creating the database I get the following error
'Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it. Start the Listener and register database service and run EM configuration Assistant again.'
Now, before you lynch me, I have searched this forum for answer to this for a day and a half. I've also tried google, i just can't find a answer that sorts out my problem. please assist me.

SOLVED!
OK all solved now, thanks to the link to Ed Stevens website that Baris posted (mucho respect )
Seems that like Barus said I was not using Dynamic Registration, which means that I would need to manua
ly update the listerner.ora file. On top of that it seems that for some my tnsnames.ora wasn't resolving mt database name so the tnsping wasfailing.
What I did to solve the name resolution problem
1. Opened the
Network Configuration Assistant and saw that my listener didnt have my DB registered with it. So I added it. What this horrible GUI tool does is update the tnsnames and listener.ora files for you. So once that was done I went to the command prompt and did ;'tnsping <dn name> and hey presto it was getting a nice response.
Then I re-ran my DB Configuration Assistant and tried to reconfigure my database. However it aing failed and gave me the same message that I was originally getting about the DB Service not being registered etc..the lister status still said that same thing:
Services Summary...
Service "CLRExtProc" has 1 instance(s).
Instance "CLRExtProc", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...
the 'unknown' means that the DB  didnt tell the listener that it was there but instead the listener is in manual mode and will just use the configuration in the listener.ora to know where the DB is.
So then I followed the steps on the ED Stevens website (follow the link). He has steps which show how to enable Dynanmic registration so that your DB regusters itself with the listener. In a nutshell, he states that he listener actually doesnt need the listerner.ora if using dynamic registration. I shutdown the DB, stopped the listener then I renamed the lsitener.ora to listerner.old, then started the lietener and checked the status and it said 'the listener supports no service' I then started the DB and, then resched teh listener status, it then read 'status: READY'... hooray!, the DB had dynamically registered itself with the listener. I then was able to successfully start up and run Enterprise Manager.
Thanks for all your help Baris, and Ed Steven website.
I know more now than when I started so I'm happy.
Thanks.

• Connecting to a database that's not in tnsnames.ora

Hi there,
I'm using Oracle 8.1.6/Apache/PHP & would like to be able to connect to a database that's not listed in the local tnsnames.ora (by local, i mean the machine that's serving the web pages).
Is this possible?
Thanks!

I'm not sure that you can use this in PHP/Apache, but when I used Oracle Enterprise Manager (which isn't ported to Linux so I had to use a different machine (NT/Solaris)) I used the format ipaddress:port:SID (ex.: 192.168.0.5:1521:cddata), where ipaddress is the address of your machine, port is the port number of the listener on the database (defulat is 1521) and SID is the SID of the database you want to access.
I hope this helps.

• Is there a web-only database development environment?

I have a database solution to create that only needs to be accessible via web browsers. I do not have an existing database, so it is not a matter of connecting an existing database to the web.
Is there a web-only database development environment that would allow me to create the entire database without some non-web database environment like Oracle, Access, 4D, FileMaker etc.
I guess what I want is a web-native database, I don't want to construct it in some environment that has to be "interpreted" in order for it to be presented to a web browser.

Databases are databases. I'm not aware of any products that are specialized for web-only access. And I can't see such a product succeeding, since the existing products are already accessible via web programming.
I don't know what the remarks about "interpreted" mean so I can't help you there.

• Oracle SQL Developer does not browse Sybase's objects

I had installed and configured jtds-1.2.5.jar in Oracle SQL Developer for Sysbase connection. Oracle SQL Developer does not browse any objects. Why? Can you please provide a solution?

Hi,
Can you provide some more information into what you are experiencing.
What version of SQL Developer are you using?
Did you install the jtds jar under the
Tools > Preferences > Database > Third Party JDBC Driver
Is the Sybase tab available in the new connection dialog?
Did you select the default database in the connection dialog?
Can you run a query against the Sybase database from the SQL Developer worksheet?
Note that JTDS 1.2 is the only supported version. There maybe issues with other versions.

• SQL Developer does not support Oracle 8i

Hi,
I was waiting a tool from Oracle like SQL Developer for a long time, finally it came, but I am a little disapointed, so Why SQL Developer does not support Oracle 8i? Other free tools like SQUIRREL can do it. I also have worked in previous projects using PL/SQL Developer and it works fine...Why a native Oracle tool can not do it?
I am in a project where we have to upgrade the Oracle database to a newer version, but I cannot have access to the old one...
I know there are some threads in this forum, and some people can work with 8i with no issues. Can anyone who works with SQL Developer and Oracle 8i please tell me how to do it?
Thanks,

That's what I thought, the issue is more commercial ($$$) than technical. Anyway...I downloaded the version 1.1 but now I am getting an ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION error. 00604. 00000 "error occurred at recursive SQL level %s".
Thanks,

• SQL Developer is not able to identify the Tnsnames.ora file

Hi,
I have installed the following in the laptop having Win XP:
1) Oracle 10gR2 Client software in the D: drive of laptop. Tnsnames.ora is located in this clients Network\Admin path. This client is used to access the databases on the other servers.
2) Oracle 10gR2 Database software in the E: drive of laptop. Right now there is not Tnsnames.ora file in this softwares Network\Admin path. This db software has been installed to create local databases in the laptop.
3) Oracle SQL Developer Version 2.1.1.64 is also installed in C: drive of laptop.
The problem which now I'm facing is that the SQL Developer is not able to identify the Tnsnames.ora file mentioned in the above point-1 which contains entries of databases on the different servers. Could you please help me out in solving this problem?
Thanks in advance.
MAK

I forget what version I was using at the time, but when I had an ORACLE_HOME defined for the environment and TNSNAMES file defined in SQL Developer (different one than was in ORACLE_HOME), that I would see results from both tns files. I don't know if that is still the case. I have since dropped my ORACLE_HOME environmental variable.

• Connection ... able to connect using sql developer, but not sqlplus or toad too

Hi folks, having this issue, with only one of my so many databases, what might be the reason and how to fix/correct this, please assist.
Able to connect using sql developer, but not sqlplus or toad too; sqlplus error: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
thanks in advance.

SQLDEVELOPER works since it use JDBC Thin & does not use tnsnames.ora
ORA-12154 ALWAYS only occurs on SQL Client & no SQL*Net packets ever leave client system
ORA-12154 NEVER involves the listener, the database itself or anything on the DB Server.
ORA-12154 occurs when client requests a connection to some DB server system using some connection string.
TNS-03505 is thrown by tnsping & is same error as ORA-12154 thrown by sqlplus or others.
The lookup operation fails because the name provided can NOT be resolved to any remote DB.
The analogous operation would be when you wanted to call somebody, but could not find their name in any phonebook.
The most frequent cause for the ORA-12154  error is when the connection alias can not be found in tnsnames.ora.
The lookup operation of the alias can be impacted by the contents of the sqlnet.ora file; specifically DOMAIN entry.

• Database Development IDE's and Tools?

What do folks using Mac / OS use for Database development. I'm new to the mac after many years using PC's with SQL server and Visual Basic and such. I'd like to do some SQL and MSTransact like SQL and have a RAD tool or something that would allow me to develop tables and queries, views, etc,. I don't really like MySQL, but thought about it, but have never seen a Desktop Tool for it? I don't want a web or cloud tool, nothing against those, but prefer my old ways. :-)
Thanks so much in advance.

The native data management approach can involve using the provided object graph data persistence tool (which is slightly different than a database) known as Core Data (Apple Core Data docs) — this'll be very different than what you're accustomed to.
For GUIs when you aren't rolling your own SQL code, there's Sequel Pro, Navicat and alternatives.
MariaDB and MySQL should be compatible, and there are kits for MySQL around for OS X.  OS X Server includes PostgreSQL, but AFAIK that database is not particularly exposed by Apple.
Python, Perl, php, Ruby and related scripting languages all have database APIs, with varying degrees of portability.  (These languages are among the closest analogs to Visual BASIC on OS X.)
If you're writing a client for a web service or ODBC/JDBC, or maybe (as I'm investigating) OwnCloud.
Xcode doesn't include generic database development mechanisms; NoSQL or SQL options, nor capabilities other than for Core Data.
FWIW, these sorts of programming question would be more common over in the Apple developer forums, too; more developers over there than around here.
You also now have some good web search terms, too.
