    The first step is to stop the Oracle instance. When the instance (and related services) is down, then bring down the ASM instance. Finally, shut down the node applications (Virtual IP, GSD, TNS Listener, and ONS).
    $ export ORACLE_SID=orcl1
    $ emctl stop dbconsole

    $ srvctl stop asm -n linux1

    Just a minor comment on the stop nodeapps.
    While it is fine to stop the nodeapps on the server, the drawback to this is, that the VIP will not failover if you stop the nodeapps, but will be stopped.
    Hence if you only shutdown one server, then you are causing clients to fail to connect to the VIP and having to wait for the TCP/Timeout.
    So if you are not going to shut down all the server, but just want to shutdown one node, you should failover the VIP the the other node.
    See: Note 749160.1 Vip Does Not Failover When Nodeapps Stopped
    So it is sometimes better instead of stopping the nodeapps, to simply shutdown the cluster with crsctl stop crs (which will failover the VIP).

  • Database Down after Server Reboot

    Hello
    I am getting a weird problem after I reboot my server (windows 2003) where by my database (10.2) does not automatically start. To get it to start I have to go into administrative tools >> services and then manually restart the OracleASMService+ASM (it says it is already running).
    Thanks in advance for any Idea's/suggestions

    Right;
    After rebooting the server and lauching the OEM Database Control it tells me the following:
    - Database Instance = Down
    - Listener = Up
    - Agent Connection to Instance = Failed ORA-12505: TNS:Listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor(DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
    In response to your troubleshooting suggestions;
    1. alert.log has no new errors logged in the past week
    2. As far as I can tell, yes. It says the service (and other associated oracle services) are running
    3. No I can not connect to the database with sql*plus (before I restart the OracleASMService+ASM). SQL*Plus errors:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
    ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
    After I restart the service I can connect without any problems.
    4. N/A
    I appreciate any help you can offer on this matter.
    Regards
    Toby

  • Logical Standby Database Down

    I am new to the Data Guard process and i wanted to know the following:
    I have a 9i Primary DB that ships to a Logical Standby Database, however if the logical standby database goes down for whatever reason, (hardware failure) it is unreachable, what can I configure to alert me that the has occurred?
    Is it something on the Primary DB that alerts me that the redo logs are perhaps not being processed? Does one use the Dead Connection Detection parameter SQLNET.EXPIRE? How do I identify the Primary to Standby connection is down amongst so many user connections?
    Many Thanks
    AM

    You will have an error for the archive log destiantion that is for your standby
    For like 10g or 11g using a SYNC or ASYC the logwr reports the issue the archiver process will report same as well.
    LGWR: Error 1041 disconnecting from destination LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2 standby host 'testsb'
    so for your archive destination for you standby look for errors to the destination and then alert.

    You are having problems on disks E\ and F\ - possibly hardware problems.
    (Hopefully these disks are not network drives. If they are, your problem might be network contention. Network mounted drives are never a good idea for databases.)
    If this is truly urgent, then I encourage you to use your Oracle Support contract to open a service request for assistance.

  • Advanced queueing: How to detect disconnect/database down if using callback

    In my last thread here, I was able to create a callback mechanism for fetching messages posted to the AQ-queue. This means I can get rid of the loop that polls for messages, that we had earlier.
    In the loop I could detect network problems, because the Dequeue function would throw an exception. When I have a callback, no exception is thrown, since I do not try to dequeue before I know there is a message there.
    How can I handle detection of network problems/database problems when using callback? If not handled, the program thinks no mesages is sent, while actually the network might be down...
    I'm not to keen on looping and polling to check for network status, as the whole point of callback was to avoid this :)
    Regards,
    Sverre

    update: I've tried to use both the OCI and OCCI failover callback, but it is not called when e.g. the network cable is disconnected.
    Is there any way to get occi to notify me when there is something wrong with the connection? Right now my callback is never called again, if the network is disconnected and reconnected...

  • JDBC Database down error codes

    Hi
    Can somebody share the error codes thrown whenever the database is down / the ORCL connection is lost during a JDBC transaction?.
    in JDBC 6.0 its clearly thrown ,but in 5.0 we just have the sql exception. So ,would like to know the different error codes thrown .

I'm certain that their requirements are more stringent than anything you're faced with. I'm arguing that handling them is a standard thing. You might be guilty of making this harder than it needs to be.

This is where a guaranteed delivery queue would shine. Apps could continue to send messages until the database came back up. The queue would accumulate them until the database was alive; then the listener could process them all, and Bob's your uncle.

  • Receiver Database Down

    Hi everyone,
    I have a doubt regrading JDBC receiver.Suppose if the database is down due to some unplanned acitivity ,will the JDBC Adapter at PI receiver side go down?I mean as per my knowledge the JDBC adapter will be trying to reconnect to the database based on the configured number of retrials and once that is expired connector should go down.So will there be error in SXMB_MONI?If not how to reprocess the failed events?Do we have to manually start the adapter?
    PS : I checked in the forum but it didnt cleared ny doubts.:-(Could you ppl pls help me out.:-)
    Thanks.

    Suppose if the database is down due to some unplanned acitivity ,will the JDBC Adapter at PI receiver side go down?
    No
    I mean as per my knowledge the JDBC adapter will be trying to reconnect to the database based on the configured number of retrials and once that is expired connector should go down.
    The retry part is fine, but once the max number of retries are reached, connector won't go down. Just that particular message will stay in System Error status.
    So will there be error in SXMB_MONI?
    No. The System error will be in Runtime Workbench
    If not how to reprocess the failed events?Do we have to manually start the adapter?
    Restart can be done from Runtime Workbench Message monitoring. As I said earlier, there is no need for adapter restart.

  • Oracle database down need help

    My company is using a program called Digital Collections (DC4) from GMTI. We have an oracle database on the backend. Recently the server's raid array fan went out and we lost all 5 drives. We were able to recover some of the lost data from backup tapes but we can't seem to locate the oracle 8.0.5 install CD's. Now, I can only download 9i which as I understand will not access oracle 8 files. All the migration howto's start by dumping the data from oracle 8 and then importing to 9i. But if I don't have 8 running how can I dump the data? Does anyone know of a solution. Either a method or utility to dump the data from the raw files or a link to download 8.0.5 Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    You can't attach oracle 8 version datafiles to 9i database or vice-versa. It was DBA's responsibility to keep the backups in case of disaster occurs at any time.
    Check with your friends about the availability of oracle 8, you will get it, if you are lucky enough.

  • Looking for a procedure to follow when database is brought down

    I have a bi-directional Streams configuration (local capture on both ends).
    Could someone either point me to the right place in the documentation, or outline for me the best course of action to follow in the event that one of the database servers either terminates on its own or needs to be brought down. Thank-you.

    Thanks. We took one of the databases down for an hour, and Streams resynched seamlessly. I am just wondering, though. There must be some limit to how much new data can be added to one database while the other one is down (after which Streams will have a hard time resynching and we would be better off just doing an export/import to reload the second database from the first). Can you provide any guidance on this?
