Database Expert causes CR to lock up

I created a new report with 1 database connection via OLE - ADO.  Everything works fine until I need to add more tables to my report.  When I try to access the Database Expert, CR locks up completely.  There is no indication that it is waiting for information to be returned from the server and I have waited over 15 minutes for the window to appear but it doesn't.
I cannot interact with CR at all at this point.  When I use Task Manager to end the application session, it informs me that the application is waiting for a response from me which made me think that the Database Expert window is hidden but open.  When I try Alt+Tab to find the window, I do have an option for Database Expert, but selecting it does nothing.  I do not have an option for Crystal Reports though.
I have recreated the report and the same thing happens, I can use Database Expert the first time, but not any time thereafter.  Any ideas what might be causing this or what I can do to troubleshoot further?
I am using Crystal Reports XI (11.0.0.1282) on XP and have checked for updates, there were none available.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi Ann,
Not sure, what OS are you using?
Download CR XI R2 ( 11.5 ) trial version or go to the download page and get the full build of Service Pack 3 and use your CR XI keycode, free upgrade. Then try again.
Thank you
Don

  • Does dropping bitmap index and creation of b- index cause any dead locks

Does dropping a bitmap index on table which is being used continuously for DML operations and creation of b- index cause any dead locks on a table
    in oracle 10g database
    ( 10.1.0.4.0 - 64bi).
we have seen alert log file which has dead lock occurrence.. would index change/re-creation resulted dead lock or some other reason?
Could you please give us info or help us on this.. thanks in advance..

Bitmap indexes can be the cause of deadlocks on busy systems.
Dropping indexes may cause some locking.
Creating indexes may cause some locking.
You haven't given any traces or scripts or lock information, so difficult to say which one (if any) was the cause of your deadlocks.
It would be better to do this activity when the system is not busy.

  • Database Expert -- Views at End of Alpha List Do Not Appear

I'm working with an MS-SQL database. All the table in it, from A to Z show up.  The DB vendor wants us to use views to access data for reports, however.  And looking at the list of views in the Database Expert -- the list is cut off in the vwRs.
So for example, vwPersons is visible, as is vwReports.
But vwTopicCodes, in same DB, and at least 40 other tables from vwSales to vwZipCodes, do not appear.
Any logical place to start looking for the cause of this kind of behavior?
    Thanks,

    Symptom
In Crystal Reports (CR), when connecting to a database that has 10,000 objects, only 8,000 of  these objects are returned.
Why does CR only return 8,000 database objects?
    Cause
The number of database objects returned to CR is determined by the setting in the Windows Registry. The default value for this registry setting is 8,000. You can change this default value by editing the Windows registry setting, NTablesMax.
NTablesMax - specifies the number of database  objects to get a listing of from the database. Once this number is reached the listing of objects in Crystal Reports is stopped. Objects can include tables, views, synonyms and stored procedures.

Business Objects is not responsible for any problems resulting from using the Windows Registry Editor. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk. ====================
To access the NTablesMax item in the registry:
    1. On the Start menu, click Run.
    2. Type "Regedit", then click OK. The Registry Editor will appear.
    3. Browse to the following folder:
    CR XI Release 2
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal Reports\FetchOptions

    4. In the right-hand window of the Registry Editor, double-click NTablesMax. The 'Edit DWORD Value' dialog box appears.
    5. Select Decimal.
    6. In the Value Data text box type "10,000". Click OK.
    7. Close the Registry Editor and then restart your computer.
The next time you open Crystal Reports, you will be able to see all 10,000 database objects.

  • How do I fix the "shockwave flash" error, causing firefox to lock up, slow, or crash?

continous errors about "shockwave flash", "script has stopped working" etc, causing numerous slowdowns, lock-ups, and crashes. have tried several fixes, but none have worked.....please advise

Is it a permissions problem? Here's another way.
    (1) In a My Computer or Windows Explorer window, open this folder:
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
If that folder does not exist, then you are using 32-bit Windows, and you can open the following folder instead:
    C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
''(Note: This folder exists on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, but on 64-bit Windows Firefox uses the Flash player in the SysWOW64 folder instead.)''
    (2) Check for a file named mms.cfg:
    (A) ''If mms.cfg exists,'' drag it to your '''Documents folder''' where you can edit it without being bothered about administrator privileges
    (B) ''If mms.cfg does not exist,'' open your '''Documents folder''', right-click > New > Text File and name the new file mms.cfg
    (3) Open mms.cfg from Documents into a text editor such as Notepad. Add this on its own line (I put it last):
    ProtectedMode=0
Save the file and close Notepad.
    (4) Hold down the Ctrl key and drag the mms.cfg file back to the Flash folder to make a copy there, keeping the original in Documents
This change should take effect the next time you restart Firefox.
Hopefully that works around the permission issue.

  • Fields missing from MYSQL table in Database Expert

I have just updgraded from Crystal XI to 2011 and I am still having issues with joining a mysql table to any other table.
Fields show up in field explorer but when I try to uise Database expert the only filed in the MYSQL table is the ID field.
Am I missing something here. Same problem with both versions. When I runa report using just the mysql table evrything works fine.

Typically if the field doesn't show up the CR can't figure out what type it is which means when we query the DB for the field type the client/server returns the wrong type or some type that CR doesn't support.
How is the field defined on the server?
    Thank you

  • Crystal Report VS2005 - Table fields missing in Database Expert

    Hi,
I am having a problem with the Crystal Report comes with Visual Studio 2005. I am trying to develop a customized report for SAP Business One. When I try to add two tables using the Database Expert, there are certain fields missing in the LINK page. This is a big problem for me because I need to link that field with another table. Oddly, it doesn't seems that there are anything wrongs with the missing fields. If I click OK and check at the Field Explorer, the missing fields are there!!!
In other words, it is missing only at the Database Expert --> Link Tab. Anyone having the same problem? Is this a known issue or any patch that I can apply to resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Harianto

  • Add Command button not in the Database Expert: VS2003

We are using VS2003 and the bundled version of Crystal Reports.  We have no plans of upgrading right now, unless we have to. What I'm trying to do should be simple...
We have an existing report that lists incomplete orders, including invoice# and items in the order.  One of the possible order items is "MISC", however, that is not descriptive, so I am trying to add a SQL query that will look up the actual MISC item text based on Invoice # (one of the fields in the report).  I was trying to do this via a subreport.
The help file and this Youtube video ( [Crystal Reports Tutorial Creating SQL Commands| http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHNHsIUbcn8]  ) suggest the way to do this is to click "Add Command to Report" from the Database expert, which will let me add my own SQL command.
However, "Add Command" is not visible, and I cannot get it to appear.   Under what circumstances would it be hidden or disabled?  How do I get it to appear so I may add a custom SQL item to the existing report?
Any help is greatly appreciated.   Thank you in advance.

Not possible with your version of CR. You'd have to upgrade to the current version of Crystal Reports (12.x).

  • Crystal 2008 hangs with Database Expert

    Hello;
We just bought Crystal 2008 for two months.
Crystal report was working fine with 2008 version12.0.0.683 against MSSQL server 2005, but started to hang when selecting Database Expert from Memu.
It started to hang when I was working on a reprot using a complicated database procedure.
Now I am not able to create a new blank report through JDBC against our MSSQL server 2005. Crystal hangs just after I clicked on JDBC from Create New Connection in Database Expert window.
    Please help.

    Hi Jean,
You are using the original release and it was not DEP or Windows 7 or Vista aware.
Uninstall your copy and download the full SP 3 version, easier than applying each patch:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009989492010E/cr2008_sp3_fullbuild.zip
Your reports will likely work again.

  • Is it possible to copy a database expert onto a new report?

I have a report created but want to have the database expert used on a different report format. I am trying to avoid formatting time.

If you mean you want a new blank report with the same database and link set up? couldn't you just save the report under a new name, go to the design tab, select all and delete? This would keep the database setup the same, but give you a blank design sheet.
I may be way off track here if you mean something different

  • Memo fields in Crystal Database Expert

We are developing a set of commission reports and need to pick up our sales person code from a UDF.  The UDF is Alphanumeric and does not show in the list of available fields for linking in the Database Expert.  Is there a way to get these to appear in the selection list or do we need to construct SQL statements within the report to pick up this information?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi,
If you are just want to get a data from only one table no need to query. Much better if you make it a query because every module have different tables. For the Title information it have different table and Row have different table but you can link them. Please try also to check and verify if the UDF field is not empty or NULL thats why no data have been shown.

  • Error: the database could not be exclusively locked to perform the operation in sql server 2008 ?

I am trying to rename the database but i am getting below exception while doing it-->
Error: the database could not be exclusively locked to perform the operation.(Microsoft Sql Server,Error 5030)
    Thanks.

as mentioned earlier by both these users just wait for all the connections to go and then try- it will succed
or else if it is dev\Uat environment & you can kill the conenctions - make the changes (use this as last option)
i was just wondering if you are connected to the same DB? If yes change your context to master(means connect to master DB ) and then issue this command.

  • CRVS2010 Beta - Event ID 4353, VS2010 crash when database expert used

I have been fighting this issue for a few days now.  My co-workers and I just recently received VS 2010 Pro licenses and installed successfully on our desktops.  Then, we all downloaded and installed the CR2010 beta 2.  The other two guys I work with had no problems creating their first reports using CR2010 beta 2, where as I end up with a crashed VS 2010 and an event logged as follows:
    Event Type:     Error
    Event Source:     Crystal Reports
    Event Category:     None
    Event ID:     4353
    Date:          9/13/2010

    User:          N/A
    Computer:     KFC-PM-71736
    Description:
The description for Event ID ( 4353 ) in Source ( Crystal Reports ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: The keycode assembly, BusinessObjects.Licensing.KeycodeDecoder.dll, cannot be loaded.
I have been reading the forum (as best I can with our terrible ISP here) and have not been able to find anything that corrects my issue.  All 3 of us have the same machine and similar products installed (VB 6 with CR, VS 2003 with CR, and VS 2005 with CR).   Again, the other two guys have not experienced any issues.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am also trying to work thorugh getting a dump of the process so that I might try and troubleshoot more on my own, but have been unable to get the tools to work out for me (DebugDiag and Process Monitor and attaching process in a second VS 2010).

That is interesting that the order may have made a difference.
Anyhow, I don't have a clean machine in which to work from; I really need to get some sort of reports solution working with my VS 2010.  Can you recommend a production level Crystal Reports version that will work with VS 2010?  Maybe something that can be installed side-by-side with the other products I already have installed?
I thought I might have read somewhere about 2008?
Thanks for your help.  I felt like I was hitting up against a wall when everyone else seemed to get things to work, yet I all I got was a crashed VS 2010 (when attempting to use the Database Expert).
