  • Cloning Non EBS Database with Rapid Clone.

    Hi DBAs,
It might sound weird but I was curious that - Can you clone the regular oracle database (Non EBS) using rapid clone. Lets suppose if I copy over appsutil directory from a EBS database and manually edit the context file with current instance information. Also if I need to do some changes in shell/perl scripts of rapid clone etc.
Have any one done it in past by doing some magic and tricks or Is there automated script based cloning available for regular databases?
    Thanks
    -Naveed-

    Hi Naveed,
I believe it is not possible as Rapid Clone is an Oracle Apps utility, so Oracle does not support cloning non-Apps databases using Rapid Clone.
In addition, there is no context file or AutoConfig in such a database, which is required for Rapid Clone to work properly.
Is there automated script based cloning available for regular databases? For this cloning, you can use the manual method, export/import, or RMAN.

  • Reporting Database growing rapidly

    Hello,
Is it normal for the reporting database in SSRS to grow so rapidly? I created a new database 2 days ago, and already it has gone from 300 megabytes the first day to 3gb today. Usually, in a matter of 4-5 months, it grows to 30+ gb.
Is it normal for it to do this? Once it get's too large it starts to slow the nightly refresh of content down and causes it to take much longer. Also, it seems that when it gets large like that, there are noticeable bottlenecks on the SQL box.
If this is normal, is the solution just to create a new reporting database once in a while? Shrink it? What? I looked online and didn't see much info addressing this topic.

It all depends on the number of transactions is carried over the database. If space is going to be constraint
then take a log backup and shrink the log file.

  • Backup of sql database grows rapidly

    Hi,
We have issue with respect to log's over MSSQL, due to logs the size of the database is increasing rapidly.
Can you please provide the best solution as what needs to be done.
    Thanks,
    Chetan Krishna

    Hi,
IMHO  more appropriate term would be :taking log backup makes the VLF *reusable*( reusable would be more correct term) although truncate the logs/making it inactive/cleared all are correct no issue about it yes taking log backup truncates log and makes
it resuable  if nothing is holding log.
Chetan please provide information about recovery model and what does below query return
    select log_reuse_wait_desc from sys.databases where name='db_name'

    1. Source has 3 diskgroups, do we need to create new 3 disk groups on the TARGET ?
    2. If we needed 3 new disk groups on TARGET, how can we move all the data from SOURCE diskgroup to TARGET disk group, Do we need to use RMAN?
Please let me know what else need to do to bring up the TARGET database.

  • Database Size goes on Increasing in SAP B1.Now the Size of my Data is 34Gb

    Hello Experts,
As one of my client data is going on increasing the data,As of now the transaction data of the Database is 34Gb.
This how the cases i have'been tested in the test database with no results.
experts, would be greatly appreciated for this solution.Since, many days im into the problem to solve the issues.
    The cases as follows:
    1.Transaction (Mdf File)=34Gb
    2.LogFile(LdfFile)=1Mb
3.History tables like AITW,AITM,ACRD--Reserves 6Gb compares to other history table. So,I 've changed the historyLog in SAP general setting to 1 and runned the addon to update the Itemmaster. Now the records aare been reduced from 1lakh to 25000.But the size occupied and freespace remains.
Is there any solution to solved this problem.
4.After deleting the records by addon, took the backup and restored .But same size effects for this case.
5.I have shrinked the database and file for the Db,with no result.
If the same problem continues for couple of years my data would reach to 60Gb.
Experts would be appreciated for this big solution.

  • 11.2.3 database maintenance (external mssql)

Still trying to carve out some time to get to 11.3, but in the interim looking after the health of an 11.2.3 zone and taking on the db side of things because someone needs to.
First thing I've noticed that the DB is 14.4 GB for a zone with <2000 devices, suggesting bloat. My understanding is ~1GB/1000 devices for just a ZCM environment. No patch management, asset management, etc.
I've run some queries and identified the top five tables by size:
    NC_CompChanges 1261208
    zStatusEvent 1230525
    NC_Component 1039044
    zObjectInfo 1034258
    NC_HotFix 726056
I've tightened up the centralized message logging settings to auto acknowledge/delete off hours more frequently and will be adjusting the local device logging to only roll up error messages. While that has dropped the system message count considerably, the table sizes are still growing each day.
    Specific areas of concern:
    1) ZENworks Database grows rapidly due to NC_CompChanges table (https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7004915)
Will updating beyond 11.2.3 correct this?
    2) The zStatusEvent and zObjectInfo tables may grow extremely large over time (https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7004256)
I've built all of the bundles in the zone and really don't rely on system requirements.
    Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Migrate Oracle Apps Instance from one server to another

    Hi All,
We are planning on migrating our Production Oracle Apps Instance(11.5.10.2 and 9.2.0.8) on HP Tru64 UNIX OS on one server to a different server(Node name change) with the same OS. This is a single node, single OS user instance(Apps and DB on the same box). Can you please give me a brief idea on how to go about doing this?
    Thank you.
    Edited by: Ora_Apps_DBA on Jul 5, 2011 12:50 PM

Since you will be using the same OS, then you can simply use Rapid Clone to migrate the Application/Database.

1- If I give service name rapid wizard will create a context name like *{hostname}_{SERVICE_NAME}*

Anyway in the both option Rapid Wizard will lay down 12 file system (I Tried them both) but later and while applying AD 12.1.1 upgrade driver (7461070) ....
Patch fail in the first option *{hostname}_{SERVICE_NAME}* with ORA-12514: Listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor, and success with the second option *{hostname}_{SID_NAME}*
What is wrong here ??? I believe that the application context name should be with *{hostname}_{SERVICE_NAME}* not *{hostname}_{SID_NAME}* since I am In RAC I have two SIDs (TEST1, TEST2)
    Thanks

  • Understanding questions about BO

    Hi Experts,
In my company we use SAP ERP/CRM/BW and we also want to apply BO.
I read the documentation about the different products, many sheets and the contributions in the forums.
But I didnu2019t find or I donu2019t understand the following informations. Maybe you can help me.
    1. How execute a request in BO. I mean, what functions take the different components at BO?
ERP/CRM is where the data from. BO Client tools work with the conditioned data.
But what does the BO enterprise platform do exactly (Enterprise Edge is the little brother?)? I read that it stores no data.
So is it only a view?
Where is the organisation of the data (cubes)? --> functionality of BW
        BO isnu2019t a BW or?
    2. Can I get access to my ERP/CRM without using the BI System? If yes, how can I do this? Has every Client tool a different
        connection?
And if they have a direct connection, what influence has it when the access is on unstructured data for my
        performance?
    3. Is BO BI in combination with IM a BW? Does IM absorb the organisation function of the BW?
What is Rapid Marts exactly? Is it the little Brother of IM?
    4. When you talk about a server, e.g. the Xcelsius Engage Server or the Crystal Server, do you talk about a real server or a
product, that is an expansion of functionalities of other products.

    Hi,
--> functionality of BW BO isnu2019t a BW or?
BO Enterprise/Edge provides the infrastructure for making your reports available to your users over the web/intranet. It also provides functions to support report bursting and implements the security regarding the access to your report.
BO Enterprise is the product for enterprises, BO Edge is focused on mid-sized and small companies.
BO Enterprise/Edge is NOT a Datawarehouse. BO supports reports which fetch data from various data sources (SAP BW, SAP ERP, DB2, Oracle, MS SQL Server etc).
    2. Can I get access to my ERP/CRM without using the BI System? If yes, how can I do this? Has every Client tool a different
    connection?
And if they have a direct connection, what influence has it when the access is on unstructured data for my
    performance?
You can access SAP ERP/CRM directly in reports you build using the Crystal Reports Designer tool. You can then publish your report on BO Enterprise so that your users can view it, schedule it, print it etc. Performance depends on the way you build your report, on the way the data are organized in the data source and on the use case (eg. you let your users view live data or just invoke instances of the reports with data wwhich ere prepared overnight)
    3. Is BO BI in combination with IM a BW? Does IM absorb the organisation function of the BW?
What is Rapid Marts exactly? Is it the little Brother of IM?
The BOBJ Information Management tools can help you extract, transform and load your data from various sources in an organized datawarehouse. You still need a permanent storage for your organized data though (eg. SAP BW or a relational database)
The rapid marts contains predefined mappings for the Data Integrator (IM Tool) in order to extract data from predefined sources (like certain modules within SAP ERP), organize them and store them in a relational database (you have to install this on your own). Additionally you get predefined universes (meta data layer) that allows you to create reports on the newly organized data using the BOBJ BI tools.
    4. When you talk about a server, e.g. the Xcelsius Engage Server or the Crystal Server, do you talk about a real server or a
product, that is an expansion of functionalities of other products.
These are stand-alone products that offer a similar functionality like BO Enterprise for making explicitely Crystal Reports or XCelsius Dashboards available to your users. They can be considered to be a subset of BO Enterprise/Edge since both Crystal Reports and XCelsius Dashboards are supported by BO Enterprise itself.
If you are planning to report on SAP sources then you should use either the BO Enterprise or the BO Edge Server software product. These are the only server products, which support the BO integration kit for SAP solutions (required for the connectivity with SAP sources).

  • Why do I get "comm err:2" on 4-20mA input channels bouncing around 4mA?

I am using the new dual channel FP-AI-C420 analog input modules and whenever the input signal is at zero (4mA), the module causes a comm error 2 alarm in Lookout. If you monitor the channels in the Field Point software you can see the channels in questions switching from "Success" to "Out of Range" as the signal drops below 4mA. This is filling up the alarm files in the Lookout database very rapidly (over 100,000 in three days!).
How do I resolve this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Geoff Klotz
    GK Associates, Inc.

    Geoff,
FieldPoint modules return status as a 2 bit number (4 states; good, unconfigured, channel specific error 1, channel specific error 2). The FP-AI-C420 module reporting Channel Specific Error 2 means that the input signal is out of range (less than 4 mA or greater than 20 mA). One option is to make sure your signal does not go out of range. Note: whereas FieldPoint I/O modules provide over-ranging (e.g. 3.5 mA to 24 mA on the FP-AI-100), the FieldPoint Dual Channel Modules do not have over-ranging.
If you have version 4.0.1.55 or later of the fpoint.cbx and Lookout, you may be able to filter the alarms. To filter the alarms, create a fpoint.ini file in the lookout directory and add the following lines to filter channel specific alarms:
    [FieldPointTagName]
    Filte
    rChAlarms=1
A value of 0 for FilterChAlarms will allow all alarms, whereas a value of 1, filters Channel Specific Error 1. I do not know at the moment whether a value of 1 will also filter Specific Error 2, or if a value of 2 will filter specific error 2. It may be that there is not an option for filtering Specific Error 2 at this point in time. I have to double check on this and will add the information when I can.
    Regards,
    Aaron

  • Rapid increase in database size

    Hi everyone,
I'm just a bit alarmed by one of my clients, you see they have been using SAP B1 for almost a month now and their database size already grew to 13G. Is this normal?
    Thanks,
    Yvette

Vitor is on-track that resetting the number of records in the change log will help. All the history files, especially aitm, aitw can take enormous amounts of drive space, especially if all new items are assigned to add to all warehouses.
The problem with resetting the number of records allowed is that it doesn't, by itself, get rid of any records. Say my record limit was 99. I have many items with 99 records of change log history. If I change that setting to 10, nothing happens to those existing items with 99 records UNTIL I CHANGE THEM AGAIN. Then the system checks the allowed records, tosses 90, and saves my change as the 10th allowed record.
My company wrote a little addon for a client that went through and 'touched' every item in every warehouse so that the record count would actually help. Then we shrank the database files and recovered many gigs of space.
