Database Install Template

Hi all,
10g and 11g
I have installed a new db using "general purpose" template. What file, log, or v$table does it reflect that this is the one I picked?
Thanks,
zxy

I thank you all :)
By the way, speaking of installation... I saw this phrase in the link above:
Installation: Oracle By Example Series
Oracle By Example (OBE) has a series on the Oracle Database 2 Day DBA guide.
This OBE steps you through the tasks in this chapter and includes annotated screenshots.
To view the Installation OBE, in your browser, enter the following URL:
http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/11g/r2/2day_dba/install/install.htmYou know, I am really very obsessed by this OBE documentation, because I considered them the best of the best. I can understand them easily when I read them.
I wish I have all the OBE's in the world (any type products will do ), because I believe If I can have them I will be one of the best Dba's too ;)
I am trying to collect them using the "root" folder:
http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe
But to my disappointment I got:
Content Server Request Failed
Unable to retrieve content. Security access denied.Any ideas please how to access all OBEs?
Thanks

  • Downloading and Installing Templates

    Aloha folks,
I have a (hopefully) simple set of questions for the community here.
How would I install templates for...
    Pages?
    Keynote?
    Numbers?
I am looking up and downloading templates from this site: iworkcommunity.com
The numbers templates are the biggest pain there. The folder in the zip file contains jpg's, Tiff's, previews, and txt files.
To see what I mean, go to the site. On the home page, click "Pay Analysis. Analyze various aspects of renumeration" to download the file.
I ask at the site itself, but I decided to post here because of a faster response time.
    Any ideas for this?

Here I get the same behavior without Stuffit installed.
    Just rename the folder from
    Software Comparison  to
    Software Comparison.nmbtemplate

  • How to Edit an Existing Oracle Database 11g Template

I fat fingered a file specification in an Oracle 11g database creation template on Solaris 10. Is there a way to edit the template without deleting it and starting over?
Also, is there a way to import an existing template into a different $ORACLE_HOME?

Actually, I have both in mine, but the .dbt files I have are the ones that I saved (at the end of using the dbca when it ask you to save your template and give it a file name). I think the .dbt stands for database template.

PLZ DON'T SEND ME ANY LINK LIKE TELLING THAT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FR THE INSTALLATION BY ORACLE OR SOME WRITER OR SO..

Well, I'm never sure what to write to someone that stuffs up the business of installing Oracle and then tells people what he will or won't accept by way of advice! ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY START SHOUTING BEFORE EVEN GIVING SOMEONE A CHANCE TO REPLY!!
It is in any case very difficult to offer any meaningful advice to someone who thinks that minor details such as his distro and his processor architecture is irrelevant.
The plain fact of the matter is, however, that 32-bit installs of Oracle on practically any distro you care to mention are simply a matter of doing a default OS installation, downloading one shell script and executing it: http://www.dizwell.com/prod/node/1208
Sorry if you don't like that advice, but it's true nonetheless. 64-bit installations can be a bit trickier, that's for sure...
Meanwhile, your ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_BASE and ORACLE_HOME don't appear to be set and your PATH seems to be set incorrectly, so it seems as if not very much of the necessary prerequisites have been carried out correctly. And the specific error message you're receiving seems merely a result of not launching the installer correctly. Try /media/cdrecorder/database/runInstaller, always assuming your installation media is sound, of course: I don't know how you got your Oracle CD ready, but you might take a look at http://www.dizwell.com/prod/node/1207 to make sure you did it right.
(While you're at it, perhaps you'd be kind enough to go edit your original post and break that LS_COLOURS line up, because right now it's causing your post and any replies to be fitted across an incredibly wide screen, necessitating a lot of horizontal scrolling).

  • Unable to connect to EBS database installed on Solaris OS

    Hi,
I deployed web service on Glassfish server which is installed on Windows Server Machine.
I am unable to communicate to EBS database installed on Sun Solaris machine.
But I am able to communicate EBS database using same Web service deployed on glassfish server on Windows 7 machine.
    Can anybody help ?
    Regards,
    Ajay Sharma

Likely it is network related and you simply don't have access to the DBMS on the Solaris machine. You'll have to check that out with your local friendly administrator and/or DBA.
Otherwise you'll have to produce some sort of error message if you want any kind of hints and tips, with no information at all nobody can help you.

  • Oracle Database VM Template - too many issues

Just wanted to offer my experience with the Oracle VM Template, specifically for 64-bit Oracle Database 11g (11.1). We decided to try out Oracle VM and the templates on a new server, we thought the promise of the templates could drastically decrease our time spent installing and setting up new boxes.
Setting up the template and getting it running was a breeze, although Oracle could have better documented things. Some passwords and important steps were left out that I had to figure out after the fact.
The real nightmare is the Oracle database installation it comes with. I guess they call this an OEM installation - but it's complete crap. Nothing really works like it should, and I found it to be a lost-cause trying to get it to work after awhile. Enterprise Manager comes disabled - what kind of database installation is this without enterprise manager? I guess they think everyone is using Grid Control - although I'm not even convinced Grid Control would have worked with all the issues going on.
I spent a day trying configure the installation to get things working, then realized packages were missing, needed for anything other than the database engine to run, due to the stripped version of oracle linux the template uses.
None of this was documented or explained at all. There's nothing on metalink..pretty much nothing. If you want a simple database that you can connect to and run sql queries through sql plus, this might just work. But it's far from a typical production setup. I would steer clear of this.

    Hi there,
VPD (Virtual Private Database) is a feature of the Oracle Enterprise Edition:

    It's in the dbms_rls package.

  • 11g R2 -silent install: "Template General_Purpose.dbc does not exist"

I'm working in an environment where no X-Windows/GUI is permitted; therefore, I'm attempting to perform a -silent install of 11g R2 on RHEL 5.3 and am finding the screen output to my terminal window less than helpful. Fortunately, a thorough review of the install actions log provides what appears to be my problem.
The screen output I receive is as follows (I've added some line breaks to make it more readable):
    (oracle@blade2-1 database)$ cd /opt/oracleStagingArea/Oracle11gR2/11.2.0.1.0/Disk1/database
    (oracle@blade2-1 database)$ ./runInstaller -silent -responseFile /home/oracle/ResponseFiles/11gR2/ORCL11GD_enterprise_11201.rsp

Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from /tmp/OraInstall2009-09-14_01-25-28PM. Please wait ...
    (oracle@blade2-1 database)$
You can find the log of this install session at:
    /u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions2009-09-14_01-25-28PM.log
That's it - no indication as to whether the installation was successful or failed or whether the NETCA/DBCA/etc. were successful or not.
I found that a listener existed after the install:
    (oracle@blade2-1 database)$ ps -ef | grep tns
    oracle 22597 1 0 13:29 ? 00:00:00 /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit
My instance didn't appear to be up, though:
    (oracle@blade2-1 database)$ ps -ef | grep ORCL11GD
    oracle 22776 19142 0 13:39 pts/0 00:00:00 grep ORCL11GD
So, I checked the /u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions2009-09-14_01-25-28PM.log to see what it revealed. It shows me the following for the DBCA:

    Hans: None at all, unfortunately.
Srini: I obtained a copy of the note and read through it. It does look as though I should be able to run the DBCA in -silent mode to create a template, so no GUI needed. Thanks again!
On a side note: Did anybody else notice the "General_Purpose.dbc" template missing from the $ORACLE_HOME/dbca/templates directory after an 11g R2 software install on RHEL 5.3? I'm beginning to suspect that not all components were installed as expected during the software installation. the oraInstall<Date/Time>.err file is full of errors such as the following:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: /opt/oracleStagingArea/Oracle11gR2/11.2.0.1.0/Disk1/database/stage/Components/oracle.rdbms.install.seeddb/11.2.0.1.0/1/DataFiles/filegroup2.jar (No such file or directory)
All of these errors are complaining about only the following 4 compoments:
    - oracle.ctx
    - oracle.sysman.console.db
    - oracle.owb.rsf
    - oracle.rdbms.install.seeddb
Upon investigation, I found that there is no oracle.ctx, oracle.sysman.console.db, oracle.owb.rsf, or oracle.rdbms.install.seeddb under /opt/oracleStagingArea/Oracle11gR2/11.2.0.1.0/Disk1/database/stage/Compoments. Instead, the grouping is located under /opt/oracleStagingArea/Oracle11gR2/11.2.0.1.0/Disk2/database/stage/Components.
It seems that I may have staged the media incorrectly in two separate directories. Should I have unzipped both files into the same directory instead of separating them out?

  • 10.2.0.2 Database Install Hangs on AIX 5.3

We have four new, recently-configured, AIX servers with same configuration with respect to IBM patches, kernel settings, etc. The install on our second server hangs while the other three installs successfully completed. It's not a connectivity issue with x-windows software or Putty as the OUI screen displays correctly and we enter all our install details.
We get as far as the Summary screen, at which point we review the parameters to be used, then select "Install" and the 10g screen comes up (where you would normally see progress status) and nothing else happens. Eventually the screen washes out and nothing happens. We have downloaded new copies of the software from OTN, as well as transferred copies of the files from one of the successful servers, but with the same results.
I have attached the contents of the install log file below and hope that someone may have a moment to review and point out something that may be causing the install issue. I am available to provide any additional information as requested.
    RDBMS Version: Oracle 10.2.0.2
    OS Version: AIX 5.3
I can email the full install log if needed, but it contains more than 30,000 words and exceeds this forum's max length.

  • 10G Database install on Linux 64bit File system Vs. Automatic Storage

    Hi,
I'm installing Oracle 10G on a Dell 2950 server with an Intel 64 bit processor. The operating system is Red Hat Linux 4. It has a hardware RAID.
I've downloaded the Install Guide but I have a question about installing.
I'm confused about the File system vs. Automatic Storage management option. I will be installing on the local system, I will not be using a NAS or SAN.
Under Database Storage Options, the guide says that "Oracle recommends that the file system you choose be separate from the file systems used by the operating system or the Oracle software.".
    1. Do I need to do that since I'm already using hardware RAID??
    2. Which way is recommended / what do most people do: File system or Automatic Storage managment??
    3. For Automatic Storage Management I read that I'd have to create an ASM Disk group that can consist of "a multiple disk device such as a RAID storage array or logical volume. However, in most cases disk groups consist of one or more individual physical disks". Do I need to reconfigure my partitions ??
I just need some input on what I should do since this is my first time installing Oracle on Linux.
    Thank you.

    Besides documentation there's a step-by-step guide :

  • 10g Database install with NAS

    hi,
how can i install and configure a 10g database on windows using Network Accessed Storage(NAS).
i need to store the db software, default tablespaces (system, sysaux etc.) on a server (with windows server 2003), and use the NAS to store data. i've done this using the traditional file structure for tablespaces, but i want to use the automated storage management(ASM) functionality as well.
i'd appreciate any help or suggestions.
    thanks

  • Oracle 9i (9.2.0.1) Database install on 64 Bit Windows XP

I want to install Oracle 9i (9.2.0.1) database on 64 Bit windows XP Operating System. Is it possible? If it is possible then can anybody
    tell me how?

as Srini said, you need to go for 9.2.0.2,
there is no certification for 9.2.0.1 on windows 64 bit.

  • Oracle 9i Database install on Win 98 Failing

I am installing Oracle 9i Database client from CD onto my Pentium II Windows 98 machine. When I click on "Install/Deinstall" on the option screen, the CD ROM drive grinds away for a while but I do not get a response. The option screen goes away but I do not get the option to choose what to install. I have tried rebooting, deleting the Windows\temp files from the incomplete installs, etc. I have tried running the setup program (Run E:\setup), etc., to no avail. Any ideas?
P.S. I have used this CD to install on other (NT and Win 2000) machines.

have you tried increasing the quota for the registry..
In NT there is something called registry size...I would increase that see if that helps..
Look for something similar on Window98.
and increase the size of maximun registry size..
    good luck.

    2 '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/elitrepl/system01.dbf';
    Database altered.
    SQL> alter database elitrepl open;

  • IDES ECC 5.0 database install fails with no errors

I've successfully installed a non-IDES version of ECC 5.0 (central, database, and dialog instances) via Solution Manager 3.2 with Oracle 9.2.0.6 (+patches).  I logged in and generated an install key for the IDES installation.
The IDES central instance installs fine.  The database instance installation proceeds to Phase 19 of 36 - "Create Tablespaces" and fails.  The log file has no errors or warnings in it.  Failure occurs almost the instance that step 19 begins.  Upon trying "Retry" it fails instantly again.  I cannot find any errors in the SAP install log or the Oracle logs.  Here is the last few entries of the SAP log:
