Database is very slow in oracle 9i with Suse Linux

Hello All,
We are using Suse linux and installed Oracle 9i on it. Our ERP product is running on this database. It is very slow. But linux configuration seems Ok. Oracle's performance is very slow. But The same thing is working fast in oracle 8.1.6 and 8.1.7. Is there any special linux configuration parameters should we consider for this or we have to do something in init.ora file?. I added the size of the JAVA_POOL_SIZE, SHARED_POOL_SIZE and LARGE_POOL_SIZE to 300 MB each.

Which version of SuSE Linux would possibly help here. I'm using version 7.3 Pro and it is only 10 minutes slower than my installation on XP Pro (the script is 16 pages long and takes 8,000,000 records and converts them into 30,000 records of useful information-takes 20 minutes in XP, 30 minutes in SuSE 7.3 on a personal computer). I used the orarun9i script and followed the directions for re-compiling the genclntsh from the SuSE installations online.

The command was introduced for split mirror backups, when this period is very short. Else ALTER TABLESPACE ... BEGIN/END BACKUP for every tablespace one at a time reduces the amount of additional redo during non-RMAN Hot Backup. There appear to be only 4 files. We don't know how big or sparse they are.

Furthermore, you can use BACKUP AS COMPRESSED BACKUPSET DATABASE to decrease the size of the backup even more - if space is an issue.

Agree with that! Unless the copy is actually going to an NFS mount or something, where I would be concerned whether it is the type of NFS that Oracle likes. I'd also advise a current patch set, as the OP didn't tell us the exact version, and I have this nagging unfocused memory of some compression problems of the "oh, I can't recover" variety.
I'd like to see some evidence on I/O and cpu usage before giving advice. When I used to copy files like this, it would choke out everyone else. RMAN was a savior, but had to wait for local SAN upgrade.

Very slow responce when working with Office file on DFS-Share
We have implemented the following configuration
Domain level Windows 2000. Two member servers with Windows Server 2008 R2, sharing the same DFS namespace with, at the moment, one folder target called Home.
Users complaining that the access to different MS Office files is very slow. Even creating a new MS Word document using right click context menu takes up to 4 minutes to open. Saving, for example, one singe Excel sheet takes also few minutes.
Tested with both, MS Office 2007 and MS Office 2010. Makes no difference. When using Office 2010 you can see the message like contacting:
\\DomainName\Root\Home\UserName. Other files like TXT, JPG or PDF are not affected.
What makes the thing really weird is the fact, that the behavior described above can absolutely change after client machine being rebooted, suddenly everything becomes very fast and this condition can revert back again just after the next
reboot.
Considerations until now:
1. This has nothing to do with the file size. Even tiny files are affected.
2. AD Sites are configured correctly and the client workstations see themselves in the correct sites.
3. This is not an Office issue. If I map my folder target not as DFS, but directly as shared network drive
\\ServerName\Root\Home\UserName , everything functions as expected
What makes me suspicious: when using f.e. TCPView to monitor connections, I can see, that each time I make any operation on an office file, there will be a connection established to one of the domain controllers, sometimes to remote ones,
located in other countries. But on the other side, even if the connection is established to the nearest DC, operations are still very very slow!
Just forget to say. All clients are Windows 7

sorry for the delayed reply. The problem has been solved now and since September 19<sup>th</sup>. everything is functioning as expected.
What was done:
Deleted replication targets excepting the initial ones
Carefully recreated folder targets
Deleted and recreated replication groups
Disabled SNP features on both namespace servers
Created EnableTCPA registry entry
Checked that the following Updates are installed

Database performing Very slow - Lots of wait events

My database is on Oracle10g on Sun 5.10
The users are complaining about database is very slow.
I analyzed the indexes & later on rebuild them, hardly it has only 5% performance improvement.

Database is very slow

Hi Guys,
I am geting trouble. My database is very slow. I couldn't log in when I launch enterprise manager. I use sqlplus to login on as sys, and it was ok, but it was very slow when I select from v$lock. It is fast when I select from v$session. How can I fix? How can know what database is doing? Thanks.

It is been fixed by our consultant. The reason is memery shortage. The consultant company didn't tell us much more. Thank you guys. Now I checked my system, in v$session_wait view, there are 3 buffer busy waits events there, and in P2Text column, there is a value "Block#". I checked the view of V$waitstat, the result like

Error when Installing Oracle XE on Suse Linux 10.0

I am installing Oracle xe on Suse Linux 10.0.
I get following error.

As a sidenote, each command under Linux does have a so called "man" page (from manual). You also need to open a shell to access those commands as shown in the thread.
And please, take a look at the commands in that thread before you start implementing, since for example the dd command seems only to create a file with a size of 512M.
Knowing how to use a search engine would also be a valuable asset in your current position.

Installation problem Oracle 9i on SuSE Linux 7.2 s390

Hi all
I've got a problem after having installed Oracle9i on a S390 box with SuSE linux 7.2. When I launch sqlplus, I've got the following message :
sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.9.0: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
It appears the shared library libclntsh.so.9.0 was not included in the tarball I've downloaded from the Oracle site.
Any idea ?

Database Performance of the database is very slow

I have an issue with performance of the database.
I noticed my database performance is very slow for the last 2 months. And recently i had made some changes in my database (like changing the NLS character set of my database) but prior to that itself i had an performance issue. But after the change i did recently still it got degraded.
And now, i had no trace files getting generated for my database. And i had no statspack information. and my alert log file is not having much information regarding to this.
Can anyone suggest how can i proceed further to look into the issue..?

Its kind of finding needle in a haystack with being blindfolded. You don't have any statspack report, that's not such big deal. You can always create one. What's the database version of yours? If you are on 10g, consider using AWR report than Statspack.
You mentioned that you did a recent change, what is that change? Where did you do it and for what reason?
Give us some more detail in the form of statspack/awr reports to help you further.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.

Update Process Very Slow in Oracle 8 which update bulk data

Dear all
i am just updating data through SQLsub-query,but i want to get to column from sub-query and need to update my source table, but there is problem is that through sub-query just return a single column while updating,but i don't wan't to re-type another query for another column due to performance issue.
Also the other issued related performance is very slow,how should i fast update in bulk.

Actually i am update time roster table with machine date, first i get from file & insert into Machine_table & then
i make joing query & then update roster table which is like below.
in roster table data consist 1 to last day of month of every employee.
update roster a
set (a.timein,a.timeout) = (select timein,timeout from machine_table mch
where a.roster_date = mch.roster_date and a.person_id = mch.person_id);
this query is updating around 7750 & it takes to much time.
please help urgent thanks.

RAZR V3i is very slow when syncing songs with iTunes

My V3i use to sync songs with iTunes pretty fast, but after updating iTunes it syncs very slow, and half the time just hangs.
Is anyone else having this issue? Any tips?

Database is very slow due to materialized view

hi guys,
our database is having materialized view which is getting refreshed every hour makes DB very slow,moreover it is generating very huge quantity of archives in a single day.
is there any way to get rid off from this worse situation
