Database job- load/cost for database
How much database gets slower when new Jobs are created in database?
I understand that Job is a kind of Timer that database engine needs to run and it is a kind of loop which check weather the schedule time has arrived now or not to run some code. So this loop may make database slower i think. But not much i guess?
I have very busy/loaded database and i don't want to make database more slower. I thought maybe i should to cron-job on the operating system level, so that database wont get mor load/work with bothering Job' handling.
CharlesRoos wrote:
How much database gets slower when new Jobs are created in database?That depends on a number of factors. Creating a job is a simply SQL UPDATE of the SYS.JOB$ table - and even a basic Oracle instance is capable of 1000's of updates per second.

So this loop may make database slower i think. But not much i guess?Not really. There is no timer as such. There are specific Oracle background processes that runs jobs - these deal with the work (job load) specified in the job table.

(whether an Oracle work load is run via cron using a dedicated server process, or by an Oracle job process - that workload is the same and needs running)

How to get the loaded cost for the Parked Purchase Order Invoices.
Hi,
Could any one of you please help me out to find out how the loaded cost is calculated for Parked Purchase Order Invoices which have not been posted. The problem is that if the invoice is posted the ekbe-wrbtr field contains the total amt for any particular line item, i.e. the (material cost + unplanned costs + taxes ).
But for the documents which are not posted ekbe-wrbtr does not have all the key data fields as that of a posted document. Is there any way out to find the total cost for the line item which is not posted.
Please try to help me..

What kind of database driver should use for database adapter in BPEL?
what kind of database driver (XA or non-XA) should use for database adapter in BPEL? I have only one database adapter and no JMS.
Thanks
Jo
Edited by: 799095 on Sep 30, 2010 8:35 AMHi
It depends on wheter you need XA transaction or not.
See http://www.theserverside.com/discussions/thread.tss?thread_id=21385 third reply.
If you only have one database and no synchronous dependency to the caller, non-XA should be OK.

I'm trying to disable the monitor for a database in a DAG that we don't want to have copies for.
I tried the following, but a few hours later the monitoring alert appears again;
Set-MailboxDatabase –Identity "name” –AutoDagExcludeFromMonitoring $True
Add-GlobalMonitoringOverride -Identity DataProtection\EnableDatabaseMonitoringResponder -ItemType Responder -PropertyName “Enabled” -PropertyValue “0” -Duration 60.00:00:00
Does anybody know how to disable the database redundancy check for a specific database?Hi,
According to your post, I understand that you want to disable the monitor for a specific database in a DAG.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
I’m afraid we cannot disable the database redundancy check for a specific database.
However if you don’t want this copy, you can remove this corrupted copy then create a new one:
Remove-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity DB1\MBX1 -Confirm:$False
More details about Add a Mailbox Database Copy, for your reference:

Hi all,
I'm getting the below warning message in enterprise manager home at one of the nodes of RAC.
The Availability calculations for the cluster database target are disabled. Please enable the DBMS JOB EMD_MAINTENANCE.EXECUTE_EM_DBMS_JOB_PROCS for Database Control.*
What does this mean ? Any idea ?
Thanks in advance.
Dhaval.Hi there,
The reason I found for this warning was that EMD_MAINTENANCE.EXECUTE_EM_DBMS_JOB_PROCS() was broken.
I fixed it by executing DBMS exec DBMS_JOB.RUN(<<job number>>);
where job number can be obtained from select job,broken,what,log_user,schema_user from dba_jobs;
Thanks for all your efforts.

How to Load a data for database when format is different??
Hai all...
I have problem in Apex while loading the data to a database from external files..
Like i have my project input data in spreadsheet format..I wanted to load that in to Database..
But sequence and column names are different in spreadsheet and database tables.
My problem is like.....
In manual input format(spreadsheet) column names are employee names and while loading that to database i want to load that in a separate column named emp_name..
It looks as below
Manual data is like this:
WEEK ENDING DATE Abc Xyz Pqr
15-Nov-08 71.4 50 100
22-Nov-08 76.9 100 100
i have database table like this
Column Name Data Type
EMP_NAME VARCHAR2(100)
WEEK_END_DATE DATE
PERCENTAGE NUMBER(2,0)
So I should be able to store like this
Emp_name Week_end_date Percentage
Abc 15-Nov-08 71.4
Xyz 15-Nov-08 50
Pqr 15-Nov-08 100
Abc 22-Nov-08 76.9
Xyz 22-Nov-08 100
pqr 22-Nov-08 100
But i am not able to get that..
Can any one suggest me how to do that in Apex..??
Should I use SQL loader for that???or do I have any option in Apex??or i should go for C program??
Thanks and Regards
ShanHello Shan,
You can access a CSV as an "External Table" (search on that). Then you can access the CSV as it was a 'normal' table and process data into your real tables.

Trigger a job on placing a request for database provisioning on EM12c
Hi
I have created a job and associated it with a script that must run in Em12c. This job has to be auto-executed as soon as a request for database is made in the Database Self-Service Portal. How is this done in EM12c.
ThanksHi,
All dbms_scheduler calls automatically commit. You cannot commit in a trigger so you are getting an error. There are two ways around this.
- one is as suggested above to put the enable into an autonomous transaction using PRAGMA AUTONOMOUS_TRANSACTION.
- the other way is to have the trigger enqueue an AQ message and then either use a job or a registered notification to do whatever you need to do. The advantage of that approach is that if there is an error in the trigger the message enqueue will be rolled back, but the autonomous txn would commit either way. But this is a bit more setting up (create a queue, enqueue a message, register a subscriber or create an event job).
Hope this helps,
Ravi. -
Does Traffic Manager provide database load balancing for MySQL?
I need two VMs to implement MySQL Cluster in Windows Azure. VMs allow configure endpoint load balance set for Mysql, but I did not find tcp protocol in Traffic Manager. Does it provide this service for database
load balancing?Hi,
Traffic Manager works on the DNS level and routes traffic between public endpoints that sit behind a common DNS name. So you can't use this for your scenario.
However, You can implement
load balancing for VMs in another way.

How to disable the timer job for "Database Statistics"
I want to disable the database statistics timer job using the powershell, but I cant find the exact name of it in the list of timer jobs.
tried
Get-SpTimerjob to manually look for it Get-SPTimerJob SPDatabaseStatisticsJobDefinitionor and also looked for staadmin name job-database-statistics
I even tried to look for it in the list of timer job definitions for a web application with no luck.
I want to disable the timerjob, so that I can run proc_DefragmentIndices on sharepoint config and SharePoint admin databases.

Thanks
NateThank you Trevor,
As per this blog (http://www.houberg.com/2008/05/16/sharepoint-database-indexes-and-statistics/) it seems like
Microsoft allows this (not explicitly though)
I ran the Health Analyzer rule for "Databases used by SharePoint have fragmented Indexes" for all servers.
I am still seeing a lot of cluster and non clustered indexes having avg_fragmentation_in_percent
> 60%.
SELECT * FROM sys.dm_db_index_physical_stats (7, NULL, NULL, NULL , 'DETAILED');
I finally thought that I should rebuild the indexes to fix the issue, but please suggest if that is not the correct approach to resolve the high fragmented indexes.
thanks

How to monitor load on my database server ?
Hi Experts,
Could anybody please suggest me a way to monitor the load on my database server?
What perfmon counters should I monitor on daily basis and confirm that load on the server is increasing day by day [or] by week by week [or] every month. Also, suggest me if we can achieve this using DMV's so that we can store this info in a table using a SQL
agent job. Because a sql guy I would be more happy working with TSQL queries.
Do all this helps me, to put for forward my argument to the management that this server can handle this much of load based on data and incase if the load is increased on the server , we might need more resources ( like cpu, better storage , more RAM etc ...)
or move to a new server which has more power.
Also, please suggest any load testing tools so that I can test this on testing environment.
Thanks in Advance.About Perfmon counter,
You may refer the below perfmon counter pdf file. You may need to look at all memory counters to confirm the issues.
http://www.quest.com/backstage/images/promotions/SQLServer-Perfmonance-Poster.pdf
Regarding
your request on workload, you need to do a Capacity planning of your servers first.
Please refer the below link, this would explain complete info:
http://sqlactions.com/2012/05/15/collection-and-reporting-of-perfmon-data-for-sql-server-capacity-planning-and-trend-analysis/
To find the SQL Server Usage and monitoring server, you can even think of
third party tools like Spotlight/Foglight etc...

Jobs and Tasks for Automation of load data in Essbase ASO Cube
Hi, all people,
my question is about creating jobs or tasks for automation loading data in essbase cubes.
I use .bat file witch run MaxL script for loading data form oracle database into an essbase cube. For running .bat file is made a Windows Task.
Is there any other opportunities to run .bat file not using windows tasks? Maybe there is special utilities in Oracle EPM Systems or any other.....
I am using essbase version 11.1.1.2.0.
Thanks for reply))There is no internal scheduler.You either have to use Windows Scheduler, Unix Cron or a third party tool. Take a look at Star Analytics Command center, it is designed specifically for Hyperion applications http://www.staranalytics.com/products/command_center.htm

How can i load file into database from client-side to server-side
i want to upload file from client-side to server-side, i use the following code to load blob into database.
if the file is in the server-side, it can work, but if it in the client-side, it said that the system cannot find the file. i think it only will search the file is in the server-side or not, it will not search the client-side.
how can i solve it without upload the file to the server first, then load it into database??
try
ResultSet rset = null;
PreparedStatement pstmt =
conn.prepareStatement ("insert into docs values (? , EMPTY_BLOB())");
pstmt.setInt (1, docId);
pstmt.execute ();
// Open the destination blob:
pstmt.setInt (1, docId);
rset = pstmt.executeQuery (
"SELECT content FROM docs WHERE id = ? FOR UPDATE");
BLOB dest_lob = null;
if (rset.next()) {
dest_lob = ((OracleResultSet)rset).getBLOB (1);
// Declare a file handler for the input file
File binaryFile = new File (fileName);
FileInputStream istream = new FileInputStream (binaryFile);
// Create an OutputStram object to write the BLOB as a stream
OutputStream ostream = dest_lob.getBinaryOutputStream();
// Create a tempory buffer
byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
int length = 0;
// Use the read() method to read the file to the byte
// array buffer, then use the write() method to write it to
// the BLOB.
while ((length = istream.read(buffer)) != -1)
ostream.write(buffer, 0, length);
pstmt.close();
// Close all streams and file handles:
istream.close();
ostream.flush();
ostream.close();
//dest_lob.close();
// Commit the transaction:
conn.commit();
conn.close();
} catch (SQLException e) {Hi,
Without some more details of the configuration, its difficult to know
what's happening here. For example, what do you mean by client side
and server side, and where are you running the upload Java application?
If you always run the application on the database server system, but can't
open the file on a different machine, then it sounds like a file protection
problem that isn't really connected with the database at all. That is to
say, if the new FileInputStream (binaryFile) statement fails, then its not
really a database problem, but a file protection issue. On the other hand,
I can't explain what's happening if you run the program on the same machine
as the document file (client machine), but you can't write the data to the
server, assuming the JDBC connection string is set correctly to connect to
the appropriate database server.
If you can provide some more information, we'll try to help.
