Database - Listener Ports -- Data transfer
Hi,
If there are two databases running on the server, Is it opt to configure unique listener port for the two databases? and what happens if a unique listener port configured?
Thanks

Hi Jgarry/Hemant
For client-server data transfer.
I understand like
First, the client send the request to the db server, the listener listens the connection and creates a database server process to handle the request (may be a query..
I just want to understand how the processed data information passes to the client.. i meant.. what are the ports involded to transfer the data back from db server to the client?
From Jgarry, I understand the data flow actually happens through a seperate data port (say it may be any port 1599 or someting).. So Do all the further traffic happens between client-server or server-client uses the same Data-port?
Im trying to understand the architectural flow of connectivity between clien-server and vice-versa. which will help to understand better.
My concern is..
we are establishing connectivity from client through TNS names. The server listenes the connectivity and creates a server session to execute the connectivity. Simply like.. a request made from client to database to listen service_name 'orcl', host=abc.com protocol=TCP port=1521. which is listen on the server side and the server recoganize the connectivity...
Here I'm trying to understand.. once the connectivity is established then there is no need of listener anymore. Even we can stop the listener. How the TCP portocol in the Oracle Net is going to establish the data flow between the servers (how the sequence of request and response happens).
If the TCP network layer is used to interact between the servers then how the data flows between the servers; like is it uses a seperate port number to send/receive the data.
Thanks
KSG
Thanks in advance

Yes,these are right
How the client gets actual data transfer from both of these databases?
Clients wil connect using bank2 or bank1 descriptor and will connect bank1 or bank2 services which registered in your listener,You can see that using lsnrctl services command
Ex: If the client connets to the server 10.93.10.40, which ports are used to transfer data from database server to client server?
There used 1521 port to connecting .

What is default database listener port number
Running emca script requested for database listener port number. Where do I get this information from.
If the port number is not specified in listener.ora,
you may get different values with 10gR1 such as 1509,
1525, 1525 or 1531 (on Windows XP SP2).
I guess this depends also on whether the TCP/IP port
1521 is really released or notI have seen what you have described above when port 1521 was in use by another process. If the port is not in use, I have not seen any thing other then 1521 assigned when the listener was created either during installation or afterwards using Net Assistant. -

MDB and Database - Listener port stops working
Hi,
I have created an MDB which does the following when a message is received from the queue.
1. Store message in database
2. do some processing
At step 1, if there is any issue with the database connection (e.g. database is not available etc), I rollback transaction. My idea is to leave the message on queue for now and retry it again after some time unless the database is back again. "Maximum retries" of the listener port is set to N but since there is no retry interval available, all N retries are done in a flash and my listener port stops working. I cannot use backout mechanism as I have to wait for the database to be back again. What are my options?usmanchaudhry wrote:

a simple JDBC rollback won't do it.
which app server are you using?

Oracle 11g database Listening Port
Hi,
It can allow only 127.0.0.1 through this port that is localhost.
"TCP 127.0.0.1:1521 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING" how can i create one more IP LISTENING port. I want to access my db using ip address without(localhost) Kindly help.
The below format:
TCP 0.0.0.0:1521 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING
Thanks.971363 wrote:

The below format:
TCP 0.0.0.0:1521 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENINGThis endpoint, +0.0.0.0+, listens on port 1521 on all IP addresses of that platform. Including any new dynamically created IPs. Including localhost. The socket parameter is called INADDR_ANY - lots of info available on it (use your favourite search engine).
To bind an Oracle listener to a specific IP, use that specific IP address (dotted format). Do not use the hostname, as the listener by default interprets it as an INADDR_ANY option.
As for not wanting to use localhost.. why not? What are the reasons for this? It cannot be a network security issue. -
Handling sequences in real time data transfer.
Hi,
We are merging two databases (real time data transfer).
One is oracle 8i and other is 9i.
Both databases are having some tables with same structure.
We want to transfer data from table in one database to table in other database.
We are implementing this functionality by using Adevanced Queueing.
Both side tables are using different sequences for generating primary key values and currently contains large volume of data.
The problem in inserting is, when we will be transferring any record from one table to other, the primary key value (sequence value) generated in both tables will be different.
So, if any particular record is updated in one table, How can we update the same record in other table ?
(As the primary key value would be different).
Thanks,
ShaileshThere must be some common data in the two tables, that identifies the record. That is, ignorng the sequence generated PK, how would you tell that two records referred to the same thing? You need to ignore the PK values, since they are meaningless surrogate keys, and use the natural key in the data to match the two talbes.

How can I check the data transfer rate of my FW800 port
I have an iMac 2.4 20 inch (MB323LL/A) with a Lacie external rugged hard drive (320 GB). I have attached it using my FW800 port with the cable supplied with the drive.
It seems slow to me so I was wondering if there is any way to see what the current data transfer is for a backup in progress. Of course it should be 800Mbps but is it really moving at that speed ? How can I tell what speed it is transferring at ? Can I use the same method for USB ports too ?When you move a large file, you are more likely to see a sustained transfer rate than a small file. Small files have to be individually read/write back and forth, thus slows the actual transfer rate down. If you are moving any file up to 4 GB and probably over 1 MB you'll see more realistic transfer rates. Furthermore your hard drive access time, and RPM figures into the equation too, as well as how much RAM you have. 800Mbps works out to 100 Megabytes per second under ideal conditions.

How to change the listener port number on a standby database
i want to change the listener port number from 1525 to 1545, which is running on a standby database.
i did the following steps and got some error.
1. i stop listener and modfy listener.ora
2. i login in standby DB and issue 'alter system set local_listener='(address=(pro=tcp)(host=10.10.10.10)(port=1545))';'
3. i login in dg broker and issue 'edit database 's1' set property 'LocalListenerAddress'='(address=(pro=tcp)(host=10.10.10.10)(port=1545))';' and a error coming out ORA-16703: cannot set the property while the database is enabled
4. then i disable database
DGMGRL> disable database 'ssmscs';
5. DGMGRL> edit database 's1' set property 'LocalListenerAddress'='(address=(pro=tcp)(host=10.10.10.10)(port=1545))';
Error: ORA-16541: site is not enabled
Configuration details cannot be determined by DGMGRL
what can i do ? can anybody help me out? thanks in advance.

You have to edit the following files in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin or $TNS_ADMIN/ :
In your listener.ora on your standby
MQ_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = superman.dk)*(PORT = 1524))*
TNSNAMES.ORA (on your primary and standby)
MQ_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (COMMUNITY = tcp.world)(PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = superman.dk)*(PORT = 1524))*
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = MQ_LIST))
after that do
lsnrctl reload -
Data Transfer Port ranges in FTPS with SSL in File Adapter
Hi,
I would appreciate if you could give me pointers reagrding the below issue.
We are on XI 3.0.
For one interface, I have to configure the FTP File adapter to pick up the files from external server.
The connection is secure and should be FTPS with SSL.
I have the certificate from the 3rd party and have it installed on our XI development server.
The change has been made in our firewall to allow the connection to the host IP and port 21 which is configured at the target party as Explicit FTPS port and they have allowed access to our Server IP in their firewall.
I have configured other FTPS connections and they worked fine but this is the only one that has been giving me so much trouble.
The error i get today is:
Error occurred while connecting to the FTP server "60.234.48.106:21": java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
Yesterday, i got the below error:
Error occurred while connecting to the FTP server "60.234.48.106:21": iaik.security.ssl.SSLException: Server certificate rejected by ChainVerifier
The Vendor has suggested to get the firewall ports 21 and 28000:30000 (data transfer) to be opened.
He has also provided with the certificate passphrase additionally to the user name and password needed to make the connection.
When i tried the connection from the XI development to the vendor server, via the Telnet, it looked like it worked.
Please advice.

1. Open the port ranges. FTPS usually requires you to open ports in the range of 65024 through 65535 for Passive FTP data
connections
2. Use the CA name in the certificate. it should be same as of the host name of the FTPS server -
Possible network issues preventing successful application data transfer?
Hello all.
We are having a few issues with a specific set up here at work involving Oracle 11, and Oracle 9 databases and I was hoping someone with a fair idea of how Oracle configurations work when it comes to network connectivity and data transfer would mind sharing their opinion on the matter.
First off, a bit of background. I'm a network security engineer by trade and my experience when it comes to the application side of things, specifically databases is inherently weak; so I apologise if my terminology or logic is slightly off here.
Basically what I'm trying to determine is where a fault lies between our users using a terminal server and a remote Oracle SQL database that should service their requests.
The problem lies wherein the user will utilise the 'sqlplus' application invoked from a Windows command prompt window, and expect to be able login and query a database. I believe we have two versions available to use, version 9 which is not actually in production but able to be used for testing and version 11 which is active in production.
When accessing Oracle 11 servers will hang where we expect to see a successful connection followed by a healthy looking "SQL>" prompt data transfer appears to stall as follows:
C:\>sqlplus username/[email protected]
SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Wed Sep 22 18:12:17 2010
Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
*hangs here*If we try on the Oracle 9 setup things look fine initially:
C:\>sqlplus username/[email protected]
SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Wed Sep 22 18:19:20 2010
Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
Connected to:
Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.6.0 - Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
JServer Release 9.2.0.6.0 - ProductionHowever once connected to the Oracle 9 box; if we run a query similar to:
sqlplus username/[email protected]
select * from <database> where rownum < 10;This will again hang.
That said however, if we try and run a query similar to:
sqlplus username/[email protected]
select * from <database> where rownum < 5;This will return 4 rows of usable data, without issue.
Our systems engineer provided me with a SQLNET trace from the server side and believes he's identified where it occurs:

# HANG OCCURS HERE

#I've tried searching the net for similar occurrences of some of the interesting looking trace data but there appears to be limited information available, none of which is terribly helpful.
What I'm really after is either someone who has had this issue before, or someone who can better interpret the error output from the trace files and perhaps give me an idea of what's causing it to occur. Specifically whether that error text above relates to a failed connection on the underlying network connectivity side of things or whether it may be something on a higher level within the application layers. We have done packet dumps on firewalls to check the traffic as it traverses the firewall but there are no anomalies that I can see which may be contributing to the issue at hand.
I have organised for some testing to occur within the next 24 hours as there is a Cisco ASA Firewall that sits in the network path that is performing inspection on packets travelling through it. The inspection for SQLNET specifically is disabled, but we intend to enable this once more for testing to see whether it makes a difference. I'm not entirely confident it will however, and until we do get a chance to test any constructive input or alternate ideas will be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to cover as many bases as possible here.
Cheers,
Josh.So some further testing doesn't show anything interesting. But that said here's a look at a TCP Dump for the Oracle 11 session that hangs:

I can get the Oracle 9 queries to hang if I select over 7 rows (8 being the point at which it dies).
So I can run
Sqlplus user/[email protected]
Select * from <blah> where rownum < 7;Over and over again, as many times as I like without issue.
But!.. As soon as I run
Sqlplus user/[email protected]
Select * from <blah> where rownum < 8;The session will hang, and from a network perspective there are no packets being transferred in either direction. It looks exactly like the Oracle 11 session in that the session is still ESTABLISHED from a client perspective but no data is flowing in either direction..
Does anyone have any idea why '8' is the magic number that would be causing it to hang? I'm really stuggling to see from a network perspective how this may be occuring, as above the TCPDump looks clean.
Unfortunately I don't have access do a dump on the client/server itself however, just on the network path. I guess that may be where we need to be looking next.
Thanks for the ideas so far all, much appreciated.

This is my first time to shutdown the EBS, can someone help me?
Thanks in advance!
JeromeHi Hsawwan,
Thanks for your help. I'm totally confused of the useage of the addlnctl.sh below. See, when I type sh addlnctl.sh stop ,the system show the useage of the shell script. it's seems I need to put the listener name after sh addlnctl.sh stop. As I installed the demo in my PC, the database name known as VIS, I don't know I should put the listener name as ORACLE_VIS or VIS only. I have tired the sh addlnctl.sh stop ORACLE_VIS, the script returned the status 1 and log message in my priori update, but when I tried the sh addlnctl.sh stop VIS, the script returned the status 0 and completed fast. Could you tell me which one I should use for the addlnctl.sh ? ORACLE_VIS or VIS only?
oravis@vostro VIS_vostro$ pwd
/u01/oracle/ora/visdb/9.2.0/appsutil/scripts/VIS_vostro
oravis@vostro VIS_vostro$ sh addlnctl.sh stop
You are running addlnctl.sh version 115.6
addlnctl.sh: too few arguments specified.
addlnctl.sh start listener_name
In general, available listeners are
Database Net8 listener : <ORACLE_SID>
Thanks & Best Regards,

Changing the aaa_server listening port
I need to change the port from 6021 to 6121 on my existing OAM infrastructure, I have modified the ois server from 6022 to 6122 with no issues, but I can not find the config files to change the access servers. Anyone have any luck with this?
Thanks for the help, but I have tried that and there is no option during the reconfiguration for the listening port for the access server. I looked in the sample silent mode xml file and there is no named value pair for listening port either.
Below is the reconfiguration steps. Maybe there is another option that needs to be added after the reconfig to get the port configuration.
bash-3.2$ ./configureAAAServer reconfig /u01/app/oracle/product/oam10.1.4/access/
Please enter the Mode in which you want the Access Server to run : 1(Open) 2(Simple) 3(Cert) : 2
Please note that the Global Oracle Access Manager Access Protocol Pass phrase has to be the same across all Access Servers and Web Gate's installed in Simple mode.

K9N SLI PLATINUM low data transfer rate
Hi, (sorry for my pour english) I had to go back to Winxp native SATA/IDE drivers and my pc crash & BSOD problem it's gone! :D (BSOD when i install some programs or some games, listening music and moving data at the same time, etc.) now i'm available to execute multitasks without any troubles. But now the transference it's quite poor , I think this is an easy and temporary solution for this big problem.
I bought my PC on 2006 and the Windows XP drivers are from 2001, aren't new Nvidia/MSI drivers to fix this annoying problem?
Thanks.
AM2 3800+ X2
MSI K9N SLI PLATINUM, bios 1.4
2 x 1GB OCZ DDR2 6400 Platinum
PSU PowerCooler 550w
HD WD3200 SATAII
NX7900GTI've got nearly the same problem, but a little worse. My data transfer rate seems very slow for a 100mb network and if I start copying files over the network, after only a couple of megs I lose connectivity to the network completely! I've removed the network cable and windows notices this, and when I put it back in windows also notices the change, but the green and orange lights on the port itself stay on solid. If I reboot windows everything comes back. I don't have problems browsing the web, seems to only happen when the ethernat port is running close to full load (for the connection speed of 100mb as apposed to 1gb).
Anyone else seen this? I'm on the latest drivers, the latest bios and I've tried disabling on of the network ports in the bios but his didn't work.

How to find the max data transfer rate(disk speed) supported by mobo?
I plan on replacing my current HDD with a new and bigger HDD.
For this I need to know the max data transfer rate(disk speed) that my mobo will support. However, dmidecode is not telling me that. Am I missing something?

Last edited by Inxsible (2011-03-27 04:40:49)I just checked my BIOS and my current setting is set at IDE although it also mentions that the default should be AHCI. Currently I have a dual boot of Windows 7 (need it for Tax software) and Arch
So I guess, when I get the new HDD, I will first set it to AHCI and then install the OSes on it. See if NCQ helps any, and if not I will turn it back and re-install (if I have to). I am planning to have Windows only in virtualbox in the new drive.
Anyhoo, while I was in the BIOS I found two things which I had questions about :
1) Under Onboard Devices --> Integrated NIC , my setting is currently set at "On w/PXE" and it says the default should be just "On". Would it be ok to change it back to On since its a single machine and its not booting an OS on any server. I just don't want to have to re-install anything now since I will be doing that in the new HDD.
2) How would I know whether my BIOS would support a 64 bit OS in Virtualbox? I checked some setting under Virtualization, but they weren't very clear.
I will edit this post and let you know exactly what settings were present under the Virtualization sub-section.
