    Hi,
Can anybody tel me the exact difference between Database Cloning and Database Refresh?
I Have some conflicts in these topics.
    Thanks
    Rajesh

Refresh is what it says, "refresh" . You have a main site which would always have the data being inserted into it. There would be another site which would remain some where else . This site needs to be refreshed with the primary site. So you need to do export from the primary, push it to the secondary site and done!

  • 11i eBiz RAC 9i database cloning to a envronment with existing 10g CRS

production is 9.2.0.8 RAC Need to clone production to lower instance using Rapid Clone. Has done such clone before.
The new issue is there is an another 10g RAC database with 10g Clusterware has been installed in this server and the cloned 9i RAC need to co-exist with this 10g RAC database.
I am thinking to use 10g clusterware to manager 9i RAC database.
From cloning point of view, how to clone a 9i RAC database to an environment with 10g clusterare.
Should I use 9i oracle home 9.2.0/appsutil/clone/bin/adcfgclone.pl or should I use 10g oracle home adcfgclone.pl?

    Hi,
production is 9.2.0.8 RAC Need to clone production to lower instance using Rapid Clone. Has done such clone before.I did not try this type of clone before. However, I believe you cannot use 10g ORACLE_HOME as cloning 11i instance with Rapid Clone on 10g database requires additional manual steps which cannot be applied to the 9i ORACLE_HOME. From Rapid Clone point of view, I believe you need to issue adcfgclone.pl from the 9i ORACLE_HOME

  • Partial EBS Database Cloning

    Hi
Is it possible to have a cloning strategy of bringing over a small percentage of data to the non-prod environments during the database cloning process for an EBS Env? Say 50% in Test and 25% in Dev.
If possible this would cut down on long-term storage cost and data liability, but I am not sure if this is possible. If possible then I would like to understand the amount of effort how this would be implemented.
Has anyone done this? Any pointers will be much appreciated. We are on R12.1.3 with HR and Payroll.
    Thanks

ThanksRapid Clone doesn't support partial cloning.
One of the options would be cleaning/purging the data on the target instance once the full/complete clone is done -- Search the forum for cleaning/purging and you will get many hits.

  • Database Cloning or Software Cloning

    Hi,
Can anyone explain what is database cloning & software cloning available in oracle 10g ?
    With Regards
    Kccrga

In addition to the above replies.
Let's say you have a Production database (PROD) is running on Linux/Unix Server (AAA). Here you wanna clone your database and Oracle Home (Oracle Software Direcotries) from Server AAA to server BBB. Oracle Home cloning is nothing but software cloning.
Software Cloning: This can be done only once until and unless any Oracle Patch applied on it.
Database Cloning/Refresh: This needs to be done whenever the updated datais required in the test/developement databases from production.
Software Staging: This can be done once when we install Oracle Software. It means that we need to copy the Oracle Software CDs in one area on the server for the future installation of the same software.

plz give the solutionIf they are on the same system you don't need a listener specifically for the axillary instance.
One listener, with the default name of LISTENER, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners or to name the listener as if it belongs to a particular database or client. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.

  • Inter-script communication and script cloning

How does a calling script pass information about itself to a script it calls via a tell statement? I'd want to pass the name and path of the calling script's application file, among other things. The called script would then talk back to the calling script, and so forth. Must this be done explicitly by, say, having the called script invoke a script object in the calling script, or can information about the calling script be passed by the call itself?
Also, how would one get a script application to clone a copy of itself? Would having the Finder just make a copy of the application file from within the script itself work?
    Thanks for any insights.

I saved the following as an application and ran it as an application (outside the Script Editor!) and it 'cloned' itself as expected.
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tell application "Finder" to duplicate (path to me)</pre>Another interesting feature of script objects, however, is that you don't need to duplicate scripts with the Finder to get multiple script objects. The preferred method is to load the same script into multiple variables of the calling script, and then assign different properties to each new instance of the called script.
You can even do this with scripts that you define within the calling script itself, or with particular handlers or scripts defined in other files. I've rarely needed to go that far in my own scripting adventures, but I've done it before. More frequently I just use the much simpler run script command to pass parameters and return results from a called script file. See this thread for info on that:

    Questions:
    =======
    1. Source has 3 diskgroups, do we need to create new 3 disk groups on the TARGET ?
    2. If we needed 3 new disk groups on TARGET, how can we move all the data from SOURCE diskgroup to TARGET disk group, Do we need to use RMAN?
Please let me know what else need to do to bring up the TARGET database.

  • Database cloning using cold backup

    Hello Guys,

    Please reply.
    Thanks

    @asif, @ckpt
With humble, how all you know that corrupted datafile is not belonging to system and undo tablespace? If this case, then do you think we can restore that corrupted cold-backup ? Sorry, but this is not the way to just start providing help without asking OP :
    1.Current Oracle Version ?
2.Where he want to restore i.e. restoring platform info Oracle version OS ?
3.After cold backup how he came to know that one datafile is corrupted ?
4.When and how datafile became corrupted ?
5.How he taken cold backup ? Was db running fine just before shut immediate for cold backing ?
6.What he has done so far to restore the cold backup ?
7.What error he is getting right now ?
Here problem is corrupted datafile. So, first let come problem clear from OP, ask all missing question in one go, and then start helping is the right way... (my personal opinion, may be wrong!).

    Hi,
    Operating System : Sun Solaris
    Production Database Version : 11.1.0.6.2
UAT Server Database Version : 11.1.0.7.0
We have taken the production backup and restored in UAT server. We found that there is a conflict in version.
Is there any solution to bring the UAT up with the production cold backup.
Please give some manual steps to bring the UAT (11.1.7) with Production backup (11.1.6)
I have attached the output for your verification we got so much of error. Please suggest some steps.
We are doing the cloning manually. We need to bring the UAT database up asap.

    Hi Forstmann,
    Thanks for your reply.
Can you tell me whether the follwing steps will bring up the database.
    1. Bring up the Production database up in UAT server
    sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    startup mount
alter database rename file (For datafile and redolog) to change from production location to UAT.(Using this method if any recovery needed done by smon)
    shutdown immediate.
    sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    startup upgrade
    SQL> spool upgrade.log
    SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/catupgrd.sql
then run the catalog and catproc script.
    OPen the database.
    take the trace file.
    shutdown immediate.
    2. Open the UAT database.
    sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    startup nomount
    run the control reuse script
    open the database.
Whether this steps will help. Please suggest me.

As you can see in the log messages, it complains that the “adcrdb.sh” file is missing from the system.
As per note 549872.1 this error could be resolved by copying the missing “adcrdb.sh” file from the source environment. However, we tried it and it’s not working for us. The copied file gets deleted somewhere during the cloning process and it again fails complaining that the “adcrdb.sh” file is missing
Please help us in resolving this as its a bit urgent.

  • RMAN database cloning

1)While cloning using RMAN when we say " duplicaicate target database to testdb" will RMAN apply archives which are not archived (uning "backup database archivelog all") or not.
    2) Why do we need to connect to the target (rman target=prod@toprod auxillary=/ catalog=cat@tocat ( i.e source db... this db we are cloning form).
we have the backup of the backup's in a say NFS mout and we have info about backup in the catalog?

    Hello;
Dan's version question is important because Oracle 11 has many additional duplication options.
That's said if you copy the archive to the remote server it will use them in both Oracle 10 and 11.
Here's my Oracle 11 - Duplicating a Database to a Remote Host with the Same Directory Structure short notes :

  • Database Cloning/Refresh to a Later Version & Datafile Compatibility

It would be great , if someone can clarify my query on DB Cloning.
I have a source database running on 9.2.0.5 Oracle version
My Target System has got 9.2.0.7 Oracle version.
This is what I want to do :
Trash the datafiles of the Target Database (9.2.0.7)
Copy the source database online backup(9.2.0.5) to the target system(9.2.0.7)
Create controlfile(from the trace generated at source) and perform a recovery to a specific point-in-time
Open the database with resetlogsI am unable to test this out, due to resource limitations.
As there is a difference in Oracle Versions of Source & Target systems, will there be any compatibility issues for the datafiles?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Justin,
    Thanks for the quick response.
Target system has already got a database running on 9.2.0.7
We will be trashing the target database files and then copy the Online backup of the Production system running on 9.2.0.5 to the target, then perform the PITR to the time specified by the business.
Production patch upgrade(to 9.2.0.7) will be done only after couple of months.
Re-installing Oracle software(9.2.0.5) & a patch upgrade at target is not feasbile in this environment.
So.. just wanted to find a work around for this.
In this case we will have to pre-pone the Production(source) Patch upgrade, so as to continue with the Refresh/Cloning activities to the other systems(of 9.2.0.7) in the landscape.
    Thanks Justin.. Once again..

    Hi Kamran,
the reason for cloning the database to other server is virtualization of the production server. the database is temporarily placed in second server. so that no down time for the users.
thanksTo cloning suggestion way is using RMAN.Also you can use User Managed backup and Recovery option. You can perform below steps(your database actually running in archivelog mode and you can take user managed HOT backup)
1). Identify all datafiles from v$datafile.name column.
    2) Connect SYS AS SYSDBA and execute ALTER DATABASE BEGIN BACKUP
    3) Using OS copy command copy/transfer all data files to other place/server
    4) And from sqlplus ALTER DATABASE END BACKUP.
    5) ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE AS 'LoCATION' (like 'c:\cont.txt');
Then restore all datafiles(and archivelogs also) to new server and STARTUP NOMOUNT then execute above controlfile recreate script(c:\cont.txt) and execute through sqlplus RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL then apply all available archivelogs then finally ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS.
