Database Publishing

Hallo,
ich möchte einen Katalog erstellen, dessen Daten aus der Datenbank kommen. Es gibt verschiedene Produkte mit unterschiedlichen Layouts. Ausserdem werden Tabellen zur Darstellung von Varianten benötigt.
Zur Realisierung benutze ich VB mit InDesign scripting.
Jetzt meine Fragen:
1. Bringt mir XML etwas?
2. Wie kopiere ich ein Template?
3. Wie kann ich Tabellen ggf. mit Vorlagen aufbauen?
Da ich InDesign Anfänger bin, suche ich noch den rechten Weg zum Ziel. Gibt es Beispiele?

natürlich kann man mit InDesign einen Database Publishing Prozess erfolgreich umsetzen.
Es gibt jedoch recht viele verschiedene Möglichkeiten, dies zu tun; es kommt immer darauf an,
- welche Art von Katalog produziert werden soll
- das Layout eher statisch ist (Seitenorientiert)
- oder eher dynamisch (orientiert Produktdaten)
- in elcher FOrm die Produkte gruppiert und sortiert werden sollen
- Bilder zu den Produkten
und vieles andere mehr.
Die nahezu wichtigste Fragen lauten für den ersten Schritt:
- in welchem FOrmat liegen die aten jetzt/zukünftig vor?
- woher kommen die Daten / werden sie über ein ERP oder CMS System gepflegt?
- sind die Daten medienneutral (Inhalt und Darstellung getrennt)?
- wieviel "Handarbeit" ist nach dem Generieren des Kataloges noch erlaubt (soll der Katalog zu 100% automatisiert erstellt werden, dann wird leider etwas aufwendiger)?
Prinzipiell lässt sich zu Deinen Fragen sagen:
bringt XML was: das allein ist ja schon eine schwierige Frage! Also:
XML Import in InDesign: ja, bringt was, wenn das Layout relativ statisch ist. XML Import kann sehr schön für Übersetzungsworkflows eingesetzt werden.
Template kopieren: dazu müstest Du erst mal erklären, wa Du in diesem Fall unter Template verstehst. Meinst Du .indt - Dateien? Diese kannst Du per VbScript instanzzieren (also eine indd-Datei daraus ableiten) und daran dann weiterarbeiten (z.B. per Script mit Daten füllen).
Indt Dateien könnten durchaus auch eine Lösung für deinen Katalog darstellen, wenn Deine Anforderungen nicht allzu hoch sind.
Tabellen mit Vorlagen: das ist ein Punkt,, an dem sich die unterschiedlichen Databanse Publishing Tools erheblich voneinander unterscheiden. Aber auch hier kommt es auf Deine genauen Anforderungen an.
Ich kann Dir empfehlen, Dir verschiedene Database-Publishing Produkte anzusehen, z.B. www.inforvision.de oder Woodwing Smart Catalog.
Alternativ dazu kannst Du auch ohne jedes weitere Hilfsmittel alleine mit VB Scripting und InDesign arbeiten (da geht nahezu alles (auch Tabellen), aber man braucht schon ein bisschen zeit für die Erstellung des Scripts). Das macht natürlich nur Sinn, wenn die Daten in einem brauchbaren Format angeliefert werden (das könnte XML sein oder auch eine gute Datenbankstruktur, immer mit zugehörigem Bildmaterial)

NOOB: Database Publishing

I'm totally new to this subject. I am trying to find a solution for a phone-directory firm. they have thousand of phone listings and would like to have a system where with a few mouse clicks and style configurations, all content will be set up in a publishing program.
All content, names, phone numbers... is kept in a database (currently ms-access eventuall MSSQL). the DB records also have styling info , such as if certain records should be bolded or colored and the like. all this info shoud be reflected in the finished document.
I have read that framemaker does this kind of thing. I went over the whole FM help online, but couldnt find a single mention of connecting the documents to a DB.
I believe what i'm looking for is something like a super-enhanced MS Word merge . where the content is in a db. the styling for the most part is in the publishing app. and the merge takes a minute. As mentioned, some styling iinfo must come from the db records themseleves.
Can anybody lead me in the right direction? videos/webpages/alternate products/solutions. i would prefer adobe products (cuz its an adobe forum , but really because the firm's users are used to indesign and photoshop and other CS apps.)
i read about structured documents, which makes sense. but where do i make the link to the db?
i really appreciate your help!

This is pretty standard stuff, but the tools aren't built into Frame. You need a bridge application or set of scripts to pull the data in....

Problem opening indesign document (database publishing?)

Hello
I need help urgently from someone who has experience with InDesign files that refuse to open.
My client has created 2 documents, and they have no problem opening it. ~They tell me it is made with InDesign CS2. I have tried to open it with CS/CS2/CS3 and even an .inx version of the file will not open.
Error message is: < Cannot open the file "xxxx.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be op in another application.>
The file is filled with txt file from a database, that needs to be replaced by me.
My client has no extra plugins installed, I have asked to do a 3rd party check, but list is empty.
Help, what can I do. I have 2 files that need to be worked in quickly. Anyone has experience by peeking into the file with a hex editor or text wrangler to see what is going on? I can send 1 file via e-mail (1.5 MB size)

thanks for all who have suggested solutions. I have solved it in the mean time, by removing all pages except the master pages, and had it re-saved. So the conclusion is that there was something on one of the pages that made it impossible to open. My bet is a faulty image or logo

I have installed Sun ONE ASP on a RedHat7.3 box, and want to migrate some Access-based sites to mySQL. Great, I think, "the server comes with a managent tool that can do this job for me" - having read about the database publisher.
However, the supplied documentation features an outdated link (linking to a Chilisoft address).
Where is this windows tool located? Looked everywhere...

Hello! I said... I want the ability to input analogue video into my camcorder so I can continue to transfer VHS and input and record video from other sources. The new HD cameras on the market will not allow you to record video from any source except for the lens.
I have HD cable box. I want to record my HD programs from cable (HBO, Starz, etc) to my camera, download the video to my Mac from the camera and then edit them in iMovie and create professional looking movie DVD's in iMovie.
iMovie HD can work with mini DV HD cameras and HD video. I was not aware of a system requirement for working with HD content.

Unspecified error (MS Visual Database Tools) in SSMSEE

Hi all,
I got some issue.
Last few days ago, I downloaded Visual Studio 2010 Express Beta2 from Microsoft site and install it and tested the software. After that I found that my SQL Server Express 2005 is not working correctly. So, I remove/uninstall the VS 2010 and I need to install VS2005 SP1. After that solved, now I got another issue. Here is the steps:
1. I open SSMSEE (For SQL Server 2005 Express)
2. I right click on one of my Database's Table and select "Design"
3. The error prompt. > Unspecified error (MS Visual Database Tools)
Because its in Urgent, I uninstall my SQL Server 2005 Express + Management studio and restart and install this "SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE" file. its SQL Server 2005 Express Advance.
After installation, I restart my laptop and do the above step again, the same error occurs.
So, have no way. And I search on Net and this SQL Server forum. I found that they're talking about Server 2005 to 2008 for the above error message!!
I then go check my current SQL Server Express Version from Management Studio by using
Select @@Version. So surprising I got the below error!!

Hi,
As we know that Visual Studio 2010 ships with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express Edition which will be install if you select it when installing Visual Studio 2010. But in fact, uninstalling Visual Studio 2010 will not uninstall SQL Server 2008 Express. I think that’s why it displays as the version of SQL Server 2008 SP1.
So in this scenario, you have 2 instances of SQL Server Express (2005 and 2008) and SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) 2005. But if you use SSMSE 2005 to connect and instance of SQL Server 2008, you may get the above error when using Table Design functionality or others.
To solve this problem, please use SSMSE 2005 to connect to your SQL Server 2005 Express instance or you can download SSMSE 2008 if you want to use SQL Server 2008 Express. To ensure you connect to the correct instance, you can find the instance name in the properties of SQL Server using SQL Server Configuration Manager.

IPCC Enterprise CAD Database Replication

Hi all,
We have deployed IPCC Ent. with CAD.
We have recently noticed that there is a gap between the size of CAD Side-A FCRasSvr DB (170 MB) and the size of CAD Side-B FCRasSvr DB (5 MB).
FCRasSvr is the Real-time statistics DB.
We have also noticed that in CAD Side-A there is a publication but in CAD Side-B there is no subscription.
Does this mean that replication is not happening? How can we check this?

We also face this issue:
- SQL Backup to the CAD database Publisher
2 - Disabling the replication between 2 servers
3 - Insulation the 2 databases of the 2 sides
4 - Reactivation of replication
after this we faced the issue of database size mismatch which was solved this way
This is a problem of SQL that generates the disappearance of the job SQL 'REPL-Merge'.
According to TAC, a first solution is to run the following action plan:
1 - Disable the replication of databases using the CAD tool and postInstall by logging in as local Administrator on the PG
2 - Enable the replication database using the CAD tool and postInstall by logging in as the local Administarteur PG
3 - Check that the SQL job REPL-Merge
4 - Check that the account used by the job REPL SQL-Merge is CADSQLAdminUser otherwise modify the job to use this account
5 - Make a daily check (for 5 days) to verify that the SQL job still exists REPL-Merge

Crystal report / adobe error

hi there,
i developed a web application using asp.net4.0, VS 2010 and crystal report for VS2010. everything working fine in development machine as well as local server machine. but the same failed in production and it gave the error message as
"the file is damaged and could not repaired" end of this error message everytime some random number is displaying.

actually im getting this error only while passing some input data if i pass some other data then its working fine so, what i did was copied the production database,published folder from server to my local machine and ran the same code here i can see the output without any error. so, im confussing how to resove this issue and where is the issue.

Check DLL differences; CR dlls, db client dlls, system dlls. Use [Modules|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006252802008E/modules.zip] to compare the two scenarios.

MS Access, SharePoint and Security

Let's say I sign up for Office 365.
I use the SharePoint Site that comes with it to house my MS Access Lists and my compiled database *.accmde file.
Can I set up a separate sub-site with only admin access to house a list of userID's and passwords so that when the user runs the database, it looks up this list and identifies the user, type of user, and which filter for the data in the full access sites.
If that works, then I would also want to put the data in a limited sub-site and have the accmde file retrieve that data behind the scenes. I would like to limit accidental access to the data if at all possible.
Any suggestions on how to design the tool for this?

It seems you have the following questions about hosting Access data on Office 365
Can Access connect to multiple SharePoint sub-site?
Can you store User info in one sub-site to control what data the user sees?
Can you hide these sub-sites so that users can't accidentally see this data?
The short answer is that I'm not sure that what you are trying to do is even possible in a Web database published to SharePoint, and certainly would be very difficult in a traditional database.
If you create a Web database in Access 2010 and publish it to SharePoint, then it is limited to the tables / SharePoint Lists in that sub-site.
In this case the credentials of the user are passed to SharePoint to retrieve data. This means that to read the list the user would have to have permissions and so they could go out the site directly and see the same data.
Using SharePoint permissions you could control what the user can see, but Access isn't going to be able to add much to that.
If you create a traditional database, then you can link to lists in multiple SharePoint site as well as other providers like SQL, and Excel.
When you created the link table here you have the option to store the credentials with the linked table.
If you do not store the credentials the user will be prompted for the credentials to use.
You could store the credentials for an Admin user when you link the table, but the problem is that if a user opens your database in the full version of Access can get to the linked tables, they will be able to see all of the data anyway.
When it comes to security, the best answer is always to secure the data using the native features of the data store such as SharePoint, SQL, etc.

I have 2 Project PWA servers, i know how to copy all the databases (Publishing, Draft, Reporting, archive, content) from one SQL server and copy it to the other PWA server so both server can be identical.
I need to only move a single project from a PWA server to another,
Moving the Project plan, actual time data, SharePoint site with all it's content
Is there a 3rd party tool that can be added on to the server to help me move single project plans? to different PWA servers?

SQL Server Express and Visual Studio 2013

In February I installed Visual Studio 2013 Professional. Looking in the Control Panel at all my installed programs, I see that I have a bunch of SQL server-related programs loaded, from the 2013 install and also from installs of previous Visual Studio versions.
I've never done a thing with SQL server express, and am completely clueless about using it. I've already wanted to take a crack at it but it always seemed too daunting, so I backed off. It seems, however, that over the years the integration of SQL Server Express
with Visual Studio is getting more and more seamless. Here is a list of all the SQL Server-related programs on my computer, with the ones installed automatically from the Visual Studio 2013 install bolded so they'll stand out. What I'm wondering is if I have

Can InDesign CC 2014 automate image placement?

I have designed a certificate of achievement to award participants for a variety of activities.
I have also designed badges for each activity in the form of png files.
I will be creating numerous certificaes and already know how to auto-generate them with customized names from an exported csv file.
However I am wondering if InDesign CS6 is able to automatically place the unique png badges on the certificates through a similar automated feature or via coding or other customized approach?

Transactional replication is a problem

i have got transactional replication going on.
when i check the status on publisher database , publisher to distrubutor history shows perfefcely fine but distributor to subscriber is waiting since forever
and when i check the status on subscription/distributor side this is what i get

i disconnect from ssms and connect again using the server name instead of IP so the error message is gone,
but distributor to subscriber is still waiting for looooooooooooong time.

Hi,
I am Raja, I am new to SQL Server Replication(Non-SQL Subscriber). I have to configure SQL Server transactional replication from SQL Server database(Publisher) tables to Oracle(Subscriber) database in my development environment. I tried many times but I
couldn't. Could you please any one send reference link or screen shots? I tried in google and youtube but I didn't get proper screen shots or video.

According to your description, when you want to configure an Oracle subscriber, you need to install and configure Oracle client networking software
and the Oracle OLE DB provider on the SQL Server distributor. In addition, you also need to create a TNS name for the subscriber and a snapshot or transactional publication for non-SQL Server Subscribers.
