Database question issue

I've built a DB with some 88 records in it. In each record, I have a competitors name, team name and position meaning order of go, for each team name as it relates to that team. The rider’s position field is a value list of one to five. Who goes first on the relay second, etc… I want to create a report that lists team name, and than list, the riders in position order. I’m not sure that a flat file method that AW uses can do that. In other words, be able to selectively pick certain information from several records and build a list to display.
Any insight? It been years since I wrote a DB, I have a real old copy of Filemakerpro 4.1 and can’t find my keycode to install it and 300 bucks for a new version that I’m sure would do it. Is a lot for a onetime most likely would never use it again solution….

Getting the list ito the right order is just a matter of a multiple field sort.
As you may want to do this 'one off' a second time, you probably should record it.
Click the Sort button in the Tools (the one with the bar graph) and choose New Sort. Give the sort a name (Ride Order), then double click 'Team' then 'Order' to move these two field names to the Sort Order list. Click OK to save the sort and return to the database.
Clicking the Sort button and choosting Ride Order from the menu provided will now get you half way to the result you want—placing the records in the order you specified. But the team name will be listed with the name and position of each rider.
To list the team only once for each set of five riders, you'll need a new field and a new layout.
Field: Press Shift-command-D to open the Define fields dialogue.
Create a new Summary type field ('Team SUM') with the formula:
'Team'
where Team is the name of the field containing the names of the teams.
Click back to the database, then press shift-command-L to move to Layout mode.
Go to the Layout menu and choose New Layout... > Columnar Report.
In the dialogue, Name the Layout (Rider & Position)select Team SUM, Rider and Position (but not Team) and insert them into the layout.
Go Layout > Insert part > Subsummary when sorted by..., and select Team from the list of fields. Place this part Above the data summarized.
In the Layout, move the Team SUM field into the Subsummary part. Select the label for this field and press delete.
If you want to keep the labels for Rider and Position, select them and move them into the Subsummary part, placing each directly above the Field it labels. Otherwise, select and delete these two labels.
With the Header part now empty, remove it by dragging the Header boundary up to the top of the window, or use it to hold any information you want to appear at the top of each page of the report. Drag the Subsummary part boundary to allow room for the information in this section and a bit of space between it and the first Rider. Move the Rider and Position fields near the top of the Body part, then drag the Body boundary up to allow a small amount of space between names in the list.
Press shift-command-B to return to Browse mode.
You will probably NOT see the summary information at this point. Subsummaries show only when the DB has been sorted on the specified field (Team) AND Page view is Checked in the Window menu.
Go to the Window menu and check Page View.
Final step: To be able to repeat the report, you should record it.
Click the Report button in the Tools (two sheets of paper icon) and choose New Report. Name the Report (Rider Order), choose "Rider & Position" for the Layout, "None" for the Search and "Rider Order" for the Sort, then click OK to save the Report.

    We are having tablespace "payin" in our database (8.1.7.0) .
    This tablespace is the main Tablespace of our database which is dictionary managed and heavily accessed by the user SQL statements.
    Now we are facing the database performance issue during the peak time (i.e. at the month end) when no. of users use to run the no. of large reports.
    We have also increased the SGA sufficiently on the basis of RAM size.
    This tablespace is heavily accessed for the reports.
    Now my question is,
    Is this performance issue is because the tablespace is "dictionary managed" instead of locally managed ?
    because when i monitor the different sessions through OEM, the no. of hard parses is more for the connected users.
    Actually the hard parses should be less.
    In oracle 8.1.7.0 Can we convert dictionary managed tablespace to locally managed tablespace ?
    by doing so will the problem will get somewhat resolve ? will it reduce the overhead on the dictionary tables and on the shared memory ?
    If yes then how what is procedure to convert the tablespace from dictionary to locally managed ?

    If your end users are just running reports against this tablespace, I don't think that the tablespace management (LM/DM) matters here. You should be concerned more about the TEMP tablespace (for heavy sort operations) and your shared pool size (as you have seen hard parses go up).
    As already stated, get statspack running and also try tracing user sessions with wait events. Might give you more clues.

  • W540 Questions & Issues

    Hi Folks,
    Questions & Issues:
    1.  Where is the Break key on the W540?
    2.  My W540 locks up about once every two days - there does not appear to be any common task that causes this.  When it lock nothing works, not Ctrl+Alt+Del, I must power off with the power button.  Any comments or suggestions?
    Observations:
    I'm not a fan of the new keyboard.  For example, the F1..F12 keys are difficult to read (the F parts, not the pictures) and the off center feel leads to difficult typing (at least for me).

    Issue 1 - Is there a search function to narrow the 12000 topics to handful I can manage?
    Issue 2 - Is LightRoom a better (faster, more specific with metadata, and speedier) than Bridge for a cataloging/browsing tool?
    Issue 3 - In LR, we've discovered we can catalog audio interviews by using the .wav files and giving them the same name as the image of the person being interviewed. (JimmyPic01.tif is paired with JimmyPic01.wav, JimmyPic02.tif is paired with JimmyPic02.wav - we give the image the metadata about the date and time of the interview, etc.) Now, is there a limit to the size of the .wav file associated with an image? Will our researchers be able to click on the .wav file and listen to the entire interview? Is it possible to alter the program used to open the .wav files in order to permit fast forward and replay functions? Does the audio player in LR permit those functions?
    Issue 4 - Does Adobe build a catalog package with the elegance of LR (pleasant-looking interfaces and speedy searches) and the simplicity and power of Bridge (catalog audio, video, and documents)? Does LR permit the creation of metadata fields as easily as Bridge?
    I guess many of these questions will get answered if I simply install a copy and play a while. . .?
    Okay . . . I'm off to see the download wizard. . .

    Yet, another misunderstanding on the readers' part... I am fully aware that my comments here on the forum would draw as much attention from Adobe to ban me than my opinions on global warming would attract the attention of the new administration in DC... I was addressing the three initial responders to my original post and inviting them to do what they will to avoid my intrusions.
    My questionable issues revolved around issues of the program which caused me to ask questions for further clarification - there were never any
    objectionable issues raised... simply a few questionable ones.
    I have no intention of letting anyone drive me away while my curiosity for the program is still fresh and vibrant. I'll continue to be me and will permit others to be who they are ... I have no expectations about any aspect of these forums except that most subscribers come here 1 -

    to help. Finding and making friends might be an ancillary benefit, but for the most part, I would suspect not a primary objective.

  • Database consistency issue..

    SCCM 2012 English, RTM
    For unknown reason the DR link broke between CA and primary.
    It says Site Replication status both way Active, but data replication is mixed. Parent to child Global data - failed and child to parent site data failed. Child to parent global - Active. Replication link analyzer performs several checks and then informs
    - Database consistency issues detected for site XXX.   (parent). Skiping rule  - shows different replication groups which are failed. I tried to replicate those, but nothing changed.(according to following article last step)

    Now i have read more about DRS and SCCM 2012 and get in state where 2 from 3 replications are active.
    Mainly with puting  relevatnt pub  files to RCM.BOX. But global data replication from CAs to PRI is still failed. No idea ....

  • Syncing Audio with Merge Clips option and OMF export question/issue

    Hi,
    In the past when I've edited video, when it came to syncing audio I always did it manually.  This time, using Premiere Pro CC, I used the merge clips option, to speed up the syncing audio process, which was a huge time saver with excellent results.
    The question/issue I have..is that when I get my OMF exported for my sound editor, will this screw anything up, since on the project file, it doesn't use the original audio file, but the one that was merged.  And in the project list, I don't even need to have the original audio file listed, since it's already been merged into a clip, which I used in the project.  I know it's the same file used, but will it mess anything up since a merged clip audio was used instead of just dragging the original track onto the timeline?

    A good way to know for sure (and therefore feel comfortable that you're doing the right thing) is to do a test OMF export, then open this in Audition. This ill show you exactly what you're exporting.

  • Basic database question, and subscribe/unsubscribe code

    Although I've created and manage a website, and about a million years ago I worked with databases, I'm still a bit green and in need of some help ...
    I have the website based on my local machine (laptop).  I want to use a subscribe/unsubscribe for a newsletter via the website.
    Before I go ahead with this, I need to clarify a very basic database issue ... would I have to always leave my laptop running in order for people to be able to subscribe to the newsletter on the website, i.e. will it still connect to the database if the laptop is not running?
    I'm using Dreamweaver 3, so I hope I can use this version to connect with a database?  I did install Dreamweaver 4 on one occasion with the intent of upgrading the website to it, but because I'm still a bit unsure of myself and was unfamiliar with the changes the newer version created, I decided to leave it on Dreamweaver 3 rather than risk stuffing the website up completely!
    I also have Dreamweaver UltraDev but for some reason it won't install.
    I'm hoping to follow instructions given on Dreamweaver Developer Centre for setting up a PHP development environment (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/setting_up_php.html).
    If anyone would be so kind as to advise whether I'm on the right track with all this, using Dreamweaver 3, that'd be great!
    Also, I'm sure this is unlikely, but is there any way to include a subscribe-unsubscribe without having to actually use a database?

  • Stanby database creation issue

    Created a my first build for a standby database on March1.
    Am lagging the standby instance 24 hrs behind the primary instance.
    At one point the lag fell up to 50 hours behind, all problems solved until today.
    alert log refs to a datafile created in primary, but was not replicated to standby. I have found documentation about taking primary Dfile offline and replicating this.
    I can't do this as its a high avail system (primary).
    I know documentation says this change did not replicate due to not having STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT set to auto.
    My questions are so I can catch up to the lag are....
    Can the standby be opened up in read-write and new Dfile applied some how with out issues to come? the documentation shows how to apply manually when neither are added but predicted. But not when one in the primary has been added already.
    Or are there any further ideas to the situation?

  • &, &&, and @s causing ORACLE Database Project issues And SLOW Run

    Hello I am encountering an issue while "Run"ing functions/sp/packages from an ORACLE DATABASE PROJECT.
    We are supporting a legacy application that utilizes HTP.PRINT. We decided that it would be nice to have it as an Oracle Database Project but when we save the file it is croaking at us.
    We are using
    ODTwithODAC1110720
    Visual Studio 2008
    Oracle 10g r2
    The specific issue happens when an @ is the first line in the file and when utilizing && in javascript (all being emitted from HTP.Print). Now I know we can work around these limitations (escaping the &s and wrapping the line) but is there any way to get these to work in the IDE w/o the escaping and such?
    For instance:
    In visual Studio Create a Function1 as such

    END FUNCTION1;and just a little insult to injury on this, each "run" takes upwards to 20-25 seconds from Visual studio (this is a deal breaker for us to use the tool -- when SQL Developer takes mere moments) -- is there a configuration setting awry?
    So I guess the questions are these (sorry for the ramble)
    1) How, in the VS 2008 IDE, can we accommdate & and && and @s without escaping/workarounds? (these work fine in developer)
    a) I have noticed that the escape character work around is ONE way ... thus if I have the package body in the Oracle Database Project, add "set escape \ " then escape all of my & and && and @s it works. but... the code is saved in Oracle without the escape characters (understandable) but if it changes in Oracle then I push the changes down I lose all of my escape characters.
    2) Why does each RUN take so long? working in developer & even the Server Explorer edited function are almost instantaneous.
    -- I want to add, during my escape character tests EACH RUN took upwards to 30-45 seconds, so for 4 small simple test cases it was approaching 2 minutes of just save time...
    so far these two shortcomings are barrier for our company to utilize these features (it's hard to try to sell the dept. on anything that doesn't handle escapes well AND -- the big AND -- takes entirely too long to save). any advise?

    we can just set the escape character and it works fine,
    set escape '~'
    create or replace ....when/if we have to pull down from production level we'll have to be mindful to change & and @s to have a preceding escape character (and add the set escape to the top) --> which is a step back from SQL Developer which handles this flawlessly.
    now the timing -- I believe it to be a timing issue on our network (therefore I've wasted your time). We have a default shared drive that is anything but speedy and our "default" homes in Visual Studio pointed to the shared drive. While the project/solution were on our local drives - the temp drive was the slow default. Changing that locally seems to have made the timing issue go away. (although on the first save of the body spec after the change and reboot it took 35 seconds but on subsequent runs it Ran in acceptable time limits).

After waiting 15 minutes on hold, the helpful person asked me for the answers to the security questions and said that answering them was the only way to reset the questions. I said, WHAT? You don't see any cyclic logic there? Apple (the inovator!) has not foreseen this? I was livid. I was advised I could leave a comment on Apple.com. I think I'll leave my comment on every Apple contract that crosses my desk. I'm IT Systems at a large US university. If anyone from Apple wishes to address this, PM me.

    Thanks! I'm a little leery of attaching a credit card to itunes again because of all the apple database jacking in the past. I had a bunch of unauthorized purchases charged to my account for devices that I never owned. Took me weeks to replace the credit card even though it was never compromised but apple was impotent to fix the issue. On this issue, I finally got the working key to the system. Even though there are BAZILLIONS of ways to verify a person's identity via two forms, using the security questions forgotten as one of them seems to be circular (failed) logic. Seriously, it's like requiring someone's password to reset a forgotten password. My take on the issue fixed by this workflow, that I noticed from the 3 sets of calls and 20 minute wait on each is this.... iTunes was racked by all the fraudulent purchases I (and thousands of others) experienced and people (like me) had to go through all the credit card issues because Apple "would not" fix the issues in iTunes and pursue the fraudulent purchasers (even though Apple had the device IDs!). So we ripped out our credit card info in iTunes. On this security question reset issue, if they can require people to re-enter their credit card info under the guise of "identification ...because your security is so important!) and then take 60 minutes to create a high intensity customer interaction, there is a high probability that the average customer will temporarily forget all about removing their credit card info. It's actually brilliant! ...but very underhanded.... but also very Apple. I don't expect this reply to have a long life-span, but thanks for your response. If I can log into iTunes, I can add any credit card. therefore IF I CAN LOG INTO ITUNES APPLE HAS THE SECOND METHOD ALREADY!  Thanks.

  • Adobe Photoshop Touch Question / Issue

    Hello,
    I bought Adobe Photoshop Touch some time ago for my Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and I liked it so much. Of all the apps I had for photo editing, this one gave me all I need. I used to own Adobe Photoshop CS2 on my old PC so I wanted something for my tab as well. I was very satisfied by this app until my tab died some time ago. After a pain of service and repairs, the tab worked again but it had a new issue. Anytime I used the device on something more demanding (i.e. playing games ) the tab overheated a lot and the screen started to touch itself very much as, if it was pressed all the time. After some time of struggle with it I decided to wipe it clean and pass it out to a family member who would maybe dedicate more time to fix it.
    Last month I bought myself a new device ( Sony Xperia Z ) and I was eager to get all my data on it and apps of course. To my sadness Adobe Photoshop Touch is not compatible with my device now, and it just sits there in my app list doing nothing . I could install only Photoshop Express but it does not give me the full access I had with Touch. I saw that there is another product called Photoshop Touch for smartphones and it seems to be the same as what I had only phone edition.
    My problem is that I can not get this new app unless I pay for it and I do not wish to do that because I already paid for the previous edition.
    My question is: Can I somehow obtain the Smartphone edition and the previous version ( which apparently is for tablets I suppose ) be removed from my Google Play account. I would purchase the smartphone version but there is no point in having 1 app 2 times.
    I would happily like the staff to remove my previous version from my account if they would gave me the smartphone version and I acknowledge that the tab app was more expensive than the smartphone version and Adobe will not refund me the money difference nor are they obligated to give me the smartphone version. I am just asking if it would be possible because I like that app and it's such a shame for it to be in my app list and not be used.     I don't think you'll have much luck. PS Touch for tablets was designed for just tablets; PS Touch for phones was designed for just phones. Touch for phones came out a little later than Touch for tablets. (By several months, if I recall.) On the brighter side, if you ended up buying Touch for phones, you'd be covered no matter which device you had.
    Both are very similar in function. I believe the only differences are their UIs; Touch for tablets is landscape-oriented-specific while Touch for phones is portrait-oriented. (Some elements are also placed differently.) I imagine this allows for maximum utilization of screen real estate and element placement.
