Database replication between 2ACSs (V4.0 & V4.1)

Hi All,
1. ACS in production in the N/W:
Release 4.0(1) Build 44
2.Installed recently another ACS serer for backup purposes and currently as no Data :Release 4.1(1) Build 23
Now...
a. Will it be possible to (auto)replicate between these two vesrions.
b.Will some one provide steps/links to configure replication and any required configuration changes to make sure (1) is primary & (2) backup [incase primary fails)

Cisco does not recommend to do replication between different versions of ACS.
I have also seen dissimilar versions to cause problems like database corruption, though it might work in some case.
To be on safer side keep both ACS on same version and only then replicate.

For configuring Backup ACS incase primary fails you need to configure backup server on the AAA client (router,switch) because only AAA client will forward the request to secondary server in case primary fails.

ACS Database Replication between SE and Windows

I currently have 2 Windows ACS servers (4.0.1.27) in production and replicating databases. I also have a solution engine (appliance) running 4.1.4.13.7. I plan to upgrade the Windows ACS servers to 4.1.4.13.7 (same as the SE). I know that the software versions have to match for replication to work. Recently, I received conflicting information about database replication. I was told that a ACS SE (solution engine 1113) can not replicate to a Windows ACS server, even if the software versions match. Before I change my production environment, I thought would seek out additional input.

Yes, you can replication acs windows with acs appliance. It works fine.

SQL Database replication between Primary and DR site

Hi,
We are setting up a DR Site, for our Production SAP system.
At present the curren setup for Production SAP system are as follows.
SAP ERP 2005 (SAP ECC 6.), ABAP+JAVA on Windows with MS SQL Server
2005.
Data are stored on SAN and SAP installed on MSCS Cluster enviornment.
For Setting up the DR site, we are setting up Central System
installation and replication will be configured between SAP
Production/Primary system and DR site.
We are shoadwing at our test setup and facing below replication issues
while setting up transactional replication in MS SQL server 2005.
1. At present 78716 articles are available on Production Database, and
SQL fails the replication publication after 59000 articles.
We open the ticket with Microsoft and below are the suggestion provided
by them.
1. Microsfot suggest to prepare 2\3 publications for total number of
tables, 1 publication for all Views and 1 publication for SPs,
Functions and Data types with single Distributor Agent. Distribution Agent will
take care of propagating changes in the tables across the publications.
2. All related tables (Parent child relationship) to be published on
one publication.
3. It would recommend to create 4 publications: 2 for the tables, 1 for
the views and the other for the stored procedures. This would ensure
better manageability.
The main concerns here is about splitting the tables into two different
sets with about 30,000 in one of the publications and the rest in the
second publication.
You will have to make sure that all the dependant tables are included
in the same publication. Since this database is a SAP database, requesting to provide information as follows.
1. Identify and split the entire set of table into two/three groups.
2. How to publish dynamic tables (The tables which get created post
publication process).

The needed bandwidth depends on the amount of log you create in a given timeframe. Internet bandwidth can be suffient, if you don't generate much log (btw, i don't understand the term RTD is 220).
In the log shipping scenario you can run the DR site in standby mode, then a readonly access (as DBCC etc.) is possible.

Thus we will remain with 3 nodes on the RAC database and one Standalone database. We want to implement Oracle replication on this solution, where partial database of RAC environment needs to be replicated to Standalone node.
We will have Oracle 9i database server for both RAC and Standalone machine.
The partial data that we are looking for replication are of size 25GB. Some of questions we have:
1. Is there any other replication mechanism apart from Materilzed view for this solution?
2. Is it feasible to sychronize around 25GB data between servers?
3. What can be estimated time for refresh or Synchronization?

What can be estimated time for refresh or Synchronization?Depends on the architecture, the network connection, whether you are doing incremental refreshes, etc. And it depends on what time you're measuring-- you might be measuring the latency between the RAC cluster and the standalone database, you might be measuring the time it takes to incrementally refresh a single materailized view when there have been no changes, you might be measuring the time it takes to do a complete refresh of an entire refresh group, pulling 25 GB of data over the network.
The methods that we are evaluating currently for this replication are:
1. Multi Master replication
2. Oracle 9i Datagaurd.DataGuard is not an option if you only want to replicate a subset of the data. The two realistic options are materialized views and Streams. Are you anticipating that you will be making changes on both nodes? If not, you can use simple materialized views rather than multi-master replication.
Since 9.2 is not longer covered by Premier Support, are you planning to upgrade to a supported version in the near future? In particular, Streams works a lot better in later versions of the database.

Replication between Oracle 7 and Oracle 10g. Is it possible?

I have two DBs which exist on two different versions of Oracle (7.3.3 and 10g). Those DBs have different structures of tables, data from which can be casted from one structure to other. Can I organise bi-directional replication between those DBs. To make the point clear, can I replicate data from Oracle 7.3.3 to 10g and vice versa.
Duration of synchronization should be less than 1 minute.
I would be very pleased if somebody gives my a reference on online oracle documentation because I can't find answer in it to my questions.
If the possability of application of replication is questionable, can you give an advice which technology I have to apply in my situation. For instance, perhaps, it is convenient to use triggers.

Are you talking about replicating data in one direction? If so, in which direction (Oracle to non-Oracle or non-Oracle to Oracle)? Or are you talking about bidirectional replication?
Which database do you want to be the "master" (i.e. initiate the push or pull of data)?
What sort of lag is acceptable? Minutes? Hours? Days?

ACS 4.2 Database replication issue

Hello Experts,
Hope you are all doing well. I need your help in ACS database replication, I want to do replication between ACS servers. The issue i am facing is that there is no error in ACS replication log. It just says outbound replication started. and sits there no other error message is shown. I can successfully telnet secondary server's destination port 2000. But when i hit the replication button from primary server, i do not observe any hit count on my ASA ACL on which i allowed tcp 2000 for destination secondary server.I also checked my syslog server if there is any traffic denied between these 2 ACS servers but found nothing. I also did wireshark captures on the interfaces but no traffic is initiated when i press replicate now button. Initially i thought its a machine issue, but same behavior is shown when i swapped primary----to secondary. There are other applications running on both the servers which requires JAVA. Like Cisco IME etc. Can it be JAVA issue? Please help me out. i am using Release 4.2(0) Build 124 on both servers.Attached below is the Replication LOG snapshot,

Problem in Database Replication in Oracle 9i

i am trying to do database replication but am facing problems in 9i.i have two machines on network and both have a database created.i also have a common schema in both the database (testuser is the name of schema). i have created database links between the two machines and when i check the link through OEM console then it shows that database link is active.when i add object to my master group it shows the status as need generation and when it try to generate replication support for the same the status changes to DOINGGEN.i am not able to get the status to GENERATED.my database names on both machines are different.could that be a problem.do we need to have same database name on both machines.plz help me out with this and if possible give me step wise details of how to do replication.i have tired it by following the steps given in oracle documentation.

use enterprise edition, i think you are using standered edition. moreover there should be primary key column in replicated tables.

Also check the port number TCP 2000 this is the replication port which needs to be opened between the primary and secondary ACS.

Problem with ACS 4.2 Database replication

Greetings,
I am not able to replicate Database between two ACS SE 4.2. I am getting the following error:
Inbound database replication from ACS 'ACS_BEX_001' denied - shared secret mismatch.
The configuration apparently is ok. I am attaching the configuration from both ACS.

The solution posted by Nevin is correct, but I must add some explanations. I had the problem yesterday and I proceeded like Nevin told:
- I connected to the console and made a "show".
- The IP was the correct one, but as indicated I made a "set ip"
- The system asked for the new IP, showing the old one between brackets: ie "New IP [10.10.10.1]:"
- I pressed Intro, because the IP is correct.
- After confirming the IP, mask, gateway and DNS the system asked me to verify connectivity. I did it and was correct.
- The second time it asked to check connectivity I answered No. and nothing happened.
- We checked through the web but the "Self" IP was still 127.0.0.1.
- So I made the process again BUT this time I changed the the IP to another one. After finishing, (when I answered No to check connectivity) I saw that the system was stopping all ACS processes and starting then again.
- In the web page the "Self" IP was the new one.
- I made the process again changing the IP to the original one. This time also the system stopped and started all processes.
- In the web page the "Self" IP was correct.
- Now the replication worked correctly.
So the problem was that the system is "inteligent" and if it discover that you don't change the IP (even if you change the DNS), it doesn't reconfigure it. So you must change to another IP (even a dummy one) and the change again to the correct one.
I hope this can help to other people.

I really have doubt about the replication.
Is it cloning of existing DB using cold backup, RMAN uutility or exp/imp
OR
Is it disaster recovery solution like dataguard, RAC or stream.

Replication is the process of copying and maintaining database objects, such as tables, in multiple databases that make up a distributed database system. Changes applied at one site are captured and stored locally before being forwarded and applied at each of the remote locations. Advanced Replication is a fully integrated feature of the Oracle server; it is not a separate server.
Replication uses distributed database technology to share data between multiple sites, but a replicated database and a distributed database are not the same. In a distributed database, data is available at many locations, but a particular table resides at only one location. For example, the employees table resides at only the ny.world database in a distributed database system that also includes the hk.world and la.world databases. Replication means that the same data is available at multiple locations. For example, the employees table is available at ny.world, hk.world, and la.world.

Depends on the versions and what exactly you mean by "replication", since there are a variety of technologies that may fall under that umbrella.
You can't directly replicate data between a 7.3.4 database and a 10.1 database, for example. You can use a variety of replication technologies between a 9.2 database and a 10.1 database-- materialized views, multi-master materialized views, Streams, transportable tablesspaces-- though you cannot use things like DataGuard, which may fall under the replication umbrella in some cases.

Replication between 2 node RAC environment and standalone

I would like to find out if we can setup replication between a (2 node) RAC environment and standalone database located at different location. Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

Consider for a moment I cannot implement dataguard/stream -- because I believe both involves licensing issue --- now only option left is writing my own code. Requirements to set up replication between domains

I have to create transactional replication between two servers on 2 different domains ('server-G' from domain1 and 'server-Y' from domain2)

You need to use passthrough or SQL authentication. With passthrough authentication you will need local machine accounts with the same name and passwords. Then specify these accounts in your script. This account will be the subscriber login account for the
distribution agent.
Either that or create a sql account on the subscriber which is in the db_owner role in the subscription database and use this account for your distribution agent.
