Database Request time is high dialog instance
Dear All,
I'm facing a problem where programs running on application server is 10X slower than CIDB. Analyzed the STAD data and the database request time is very high for program running on application server as compared to CIDB.
Below error message found in dev_ms:
Mon Sep 14 22:36:11 2009
ERROR => MsHttpClient: H7 MsHttpRecMsg failed (NIECONN_BROKEN) [msxxhttp_mt. 739]
Tue Sep 15 22:49:24 2009

Tue Sep 15 22:49:28 2009
ERROR => MsHttpClient: H7 MsHttpRecMsg failed (NIECONN_BROKEN) [msxxhttp_mt. 739]
Is this indicated some network problem between DB to application server? Also, 10% of packet loss happened when ping from apps server to DB server.
Besides network problem, what's the possibility that causing this problem?
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers,
Nicholas Chang.
Thanks
Besides that, Both applications are running on HPUX 11.23 64bit and found out error message below happened frequently on DB server and Application instance. Is there any OS parameter should i look into?

WAS or Dialog instance in DMZ zone
Hello All,
Please clarify me by answering the following question.
I have a plan to use the erecuting functionality without Portal system and have plans to use this functionality outside the intranet. ( Note : Not planned to move the back end system to DMZ zone)
So kindly suggest me with your valuable points.
The options which we have are.
1. Installing WAS 7.00 engine in DMZ zone and Using this ICM in Erecruting system (back end) by changing the ICM host parameter
2. Installing Dialog Instance and requesting all the erecruting request will send to dialog instance which will be placed in DMZ zone.
Will the above 2 option will work out for my case? Looking for your suggestions
Vijayhi,
to install an application server in DMZ, confirm that you will get the port 445 open.
The TCP port 445 is required to access the sapmnt directory, which contains u201CSAP profilesu201D.
or,
alternative you place an application server lan which will communicate to CI and reverse proxy server (in DMZ)
request flow:
Internet>reverse proxy->application server--->Database server.

Install new Dialog Instance on 64-bit Server with 32-bit database
I need to set up a new Application Server for our current ECC 5.0 32-bit Oracle 9.2.0.7 Non Unicode Database. The new server is x64-bit and will have Windows 2003 64-bit OS. I am reading SAP notes 785888 and 814834 and need help understanding how exactly to do this. The database server is 32-bit Windows 2003 and so is all the other application servers. Do I use the Oracle 9.2.0 client for 32-bit Oracle and do I use the SAP ECC X64 Install Master in setting up the dialog instance or do I use the 32-bit Install master? Has anyone done this type of setup before? Thanks.
Hi,
all basic information is provide in note 785888.
you want to install dialog install on 64bit windows for 32 bit central instance for that you should consider following.
-> file system is accessible from both host vice a versa for that you can create one use sapinst on 64 bit host with administrator authorization. and create same user on central instance with administrator authorization and same password.
-> perform dialog instance installation using this user ( i.e sapinst)
-> if you want to use dialog instance on 64 bit host with 64 bit kernel, install oracle client 10.2 for 64 bit on 64 bit host of windows. for media information check note 949116.
->use non unicode kernel because central instance use non unicode kernel.
-> most important 64 bit dialog instance required 64 bit kernel, SAPinst installation screen ABAP System > Instance Directories, where you are asked for the "Location of SAP System Executable", you choose "Yes, locate executables on central instance host", before choosing "Next". The executables for the dialog instance are installed to
<sapglobalhost>\sapmnt\<sapsid>\SYS\exe\<nuc\uc>\NT<AMD64|IA64|I386>*
so when you want to apply kernel patch you have to uncar the kernel package to this location.
-> maintain the kernel patch level same on both host.

Automatic shutdown of SAP Instance after installation of Dialog Instance
Hi all,
We've upgraded our system from SAP4.6C to ECC6.0 running on Win2003 64 bits Oracle 10g.
After upgrade, we installed Dialog instance (this dialog instance is running outside MS cluster) and it is running on Microsoft cluster. When we try to start up SAP dialog instance, the system is started but it automatically shuts down again.

Does anybody has a solution for this problem?
Thank you.Hi all again,
I had the same problem and found a solution for it.
I made two steps to start the dialog instance successful. First I modified the NLS_LANG setting in the registry and enviroment (only if necessary). Second, I fetched the last Oracle Instant Client <b>OCL10264.sar</b> from SAP Net and extract the file to <b>E:\usr\sap\PDV\SYS\exe\nuc\NTAMD64</b> (This directory was created through the Installer. The Kernel lies under <b>E:\usr\sap\PDV\D20\exe</b>)
Now I changed the variable <b>DIR_CLIENT_ORAHOME = $(DIR_EXECUTABLE)</b> to
<b>DIR_CLIENT_ORAHOME = E:\usr\sap\PDV\SYS\exe\nuc\NTAMD64</b> in the Instance Profile of the new Dialog Instance. So the Kernel knows that he has to use the Oracle Instance Client and the profilevariable says where he found it.
After these modifications the Dialog Instance starts with success.
With kind regards
Thomas Espenhain -
Hi Friends
If more than one dialog instance can be installed in a computer?
I have installed a sap system(abap stack), central instance and dialog instance are in the same server. the dialog instance has started up, but I can't see the dialog instance through SM51. If some configuration is missing?
tons of thanks.

SCM 2007 Dialog Instance Installation on MSCS
Hello everyone,
I have installed SCM 2007 server on MSCS. It is an ABAP stack unicode installation.
I have already fininshed with installations of ASCS, ERS, DB instance, CI as per the installation doc.
My system is up and running on one node. Now I am trying to install dialog instance on the second node. Input parameters,
Database independent programs - Drive G - local - empty on node 2
independent data - Drive M - Shared - already has files created at the time of CI installation.
However, I am getting following error in client s/w installation phase,
starting preparing phase of package Base 7.7.02.08 64 bit

Would highly appriciate any help on the above topic.

P.S: I have only installed SCM server. LC is yet to be installed. This error is encountered during the client installation phase of dialog instance installation.

Edited by: Kiran Pol on May 28, 2009 1:52 PMHi Ashley,
Thanks for your time.
Since i am installing app server, the SAP<SID> group will have to be online on this node. There is another group containing shared drives for components for livecache. This is also required to be online on node 2 for app server installation.
The only cluster resource I can move back to node 1 is ORACLE<SID>. Tried doing that, but no luck.
Any one here facing similar issue during SCM dialog instance installation in MSCS environment?
Regards,
Kiran -
BI : dialog instance does not start
Hi all.
--> Before explain you our problem, I'm going to tell you our scenario: We have an HP-UX cluster where we have installed BI system ABAP+JAVA stack (NW 701). We have got one central package with SAP and oracle in node1 and one dialog instance in node2.
--> When we start the cluster, central instance starts succesfully and all works fine. But at the moment we start dialog one in second node, for this instance only starts ABAP stack, but not java one. All logs shows a clear error, and it is that not connect to database. But at the same time, in central instance we are not able to start configtool because not connection to database. It's strange because in all nodes, processes are running. Just at the moment we stop dialog instance, central one works fine again and configtool access is succesfully.
Lot of bootstrap logs appear, so we are thinking that some parameters are wrong in configtool, but we are not so sure.
Can anybody help us with this issue? What can be causing that database connection is lost when starting dialog instance?
Thanks a lot to all in advance.
Best regardsHi,
which way you apply kernel patch on application server for iseries?
use following method to apply kernel patch on application server for iseries.
stop application server.
download the kernel sapexe.sar and saexedb.sar application server on windows for iseries.
extract both file in one folder. i.e kernel
also download patch for IGS i.e igs.sar
and extract it in same folder. i.e kernel
now
backup NTI386 folder on iSeries host.
\usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\uc\NTI386
now copy the content of extracted kernel from folder kernel to NTI386 folder.
now start the application server host.
consider following to install application server for iseries on windows server.
if you use a 64 bit windows server, please have look to Note 734428:
This Application Server (64 bit) is available for EM64T/AMD64 technologies and NOT for Itanium
also check Note 680617 - INST: Appl.Server in Heterogeneous SAP System Environment

kaushal

Problem in updating Dialog instance kernel
Dear all,
I've a ECC 5 central instance runs on a sparc solaris machine, kernel version 175. The DB is oracle.
I tried to install a dialog instance on a win2k3 machine.
The installation was success, and the Dialog Instance can ran well. The kernel version of the DI is 43, so i want to update the kernel to version 175.
But when i tried to upgrade the kernel of the DI, it cannot start.
The error messsage is:
ERROR => platform patchno is 43 [dpxxdisp.c 14862]
ERROR => but my patchno is 175 [dpxxdisp.c 14863]
DP_FATAL_ERROR => Release inconsistent with running system
DISPATCHER EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN ***
It seem like the system still stuck with the old kernel. Please help me to solve this problem.
Below is the complete log from dev_disp.
Thanks a lot,
Fendhy.

Good Bye .....There are two reasons that cause this kind of issue:
1. An attempt is made to start two instances with the same operating
system but a different kernel patch.
2. Kernels are exchanged on one or several instances with an operating
system that differs from the one of the central instance without
restarting the central instance.
In your case, it might be the second one. I write down the solutions
for both cases anyway:
for 1. Upgrade the kernel to the same patch level on all R/3 system
instances with the same operating system.
for 2. The following alternatives are available:
a) Restart the system to have the message server determine the new
patch level automatically.
b) Enter the new patch number in the message server status area
which previously contained the old patch level:
- Transaction SMLG
- Goto -> System Diagnosis -> Message server status area
- Enter new patch level.
This should solve the issue.

Anil K Kunapareddy -
Hi All,
FYI, my SAP PRD running on 3 tier SAP server configuration. Yesterday, after stop the instances, i start the services.
So far 2 servers instances (CI & DI) can be started, but 1 DI server could not be started.I had restart the dialog instance server but the the SAP still can't start.

May i know why the dialog instance is down. And I dont know what should i do now. Need your advice.
Thank You
regards,
Anang78Hi,
Some memory parameter must have been changed, which results ERROR_NO_SYSTEM_RESOURCES Messages.
Backup the current DI Instance profile and rename old version of DI Profile (which is having .BAK extension).
Check the "TIME STAMP" when DI instance was working fine to select the backup version of the profile.
Then try again to start the DI Instance and post the log again.
Later you can analyse the system load and tune the parameters accordingly...
If requred, increase the Physical Memory.
Regards.

Short Dump DATA_OFFSET_TOO_LARGE in dialog instance
Hi,
We recently install a Dialog Instance for our production system (ECC 5.0), and we received the Short Dump DATA_OFFSET_TOO_LARGE only in our Dialog Instance, in our Central Instance the error does not occur. This is the error:
Runtime Error DATA_OFFSET_TOO_LARGE
Except. CX_SY_RANGE_OUT_OF_BOUNDS
Date and Time 30.03.2007 08:19:13
ShrtText
Invalid partial field access: Offset too large
What happened?
Error in ABAP application program.
The current ABAP program "SAPLSNR3" had to be terminated because one of the statements could not be executed.
This is probably due to an error in the ABAP program.
What can you do?
Print out the error message (using the "Print" function)
and make a note of the actions and input that caused the error.
To resolve the problem, contact your SAP system administrator.
You can use transaction ST22 (ABAP Dump Analysis) to view and administer
termination messages, especially those beyond their normal deletion date.
is especially useful if you want to keep a particular message.
Error analysis
An exception occurred. This exception is dealt with in more detail below
. The exception, which is assigned to the class 'CX_SY_RANGE_OUT_OF_BOUNDS', was neither caught nor passed along using a RAISING clause, in the procedure "NUMBER_GET_NEXT" "(FUNCTION)"
Since the caller of the procedure could not have expected this exception to occur, the running program was terminated.
The reason for the exception is:
The system tried to access field "Z_DB_GROUP_KEY" with type "C" and length 20 in the current program "SAPLSNR3" using offset 20.
Partial field access is not allowed with an offset specification that is larger than actual field length.
How to correct the error
Make the offset smaller with which you want to access the field.
You may able to find an interim solution to the problem in the SAP note system. If you have access to the note system yourself, use the following search criteria:
"DATA_OFFSET_TOO_LARGE" CX_SY_RANGE_OUT_OF_BOUNDSC
"SAPLSNR3" or "LSNR3U01"
"NUMBER_GET_NEXT"
User and Transaction
Client.............. 300
User................ 645
Language key........ "S"
Transaction......... "FNV5 "
Program............. "SAPLSNR3"
Screen.............. "SAPLFVDA 0400"
Screen line......... 323
Information on where terminated
The termination occurred in the ABAP program "SAPLSNR3" in "NUMBER_GET_NEXT".
The main program was "SAPMF67A ".
The termination occurred in line 99 of the source code of the (Include)program "LSNR3U01"
of the source code of program "LSNR3U01" (when calling the editor 990).
Error occurred during batch input processing
Processing was terminated because the exception "CX_SY_RANGE_OUT_OF_BOUNDS" occurred in the procedure "NUMBER_GET_NEXT" "(FUNCTION)" but was not handled locally, not declared in the RAISING clause of the procedure.
The procedure is in the program "SAPLSNR3 ". Its source code starts in line 5
of the (Include) program "LSNR3$01 ".
Our Database is DB2 UDB with FixPak 10, the Central Instance is on Solaris 9 and our Dialog Instance is on Linux Red Hat. Both instances have the same Kernel release (155) installed.
Can you help me please?
Best Regards,
Eduardo Perez.Hi Eduardo,
Just refresh the number range buffers in both instances and see what happens.
Go to SM56. From menu bar choose number range buffer. Choose client as as current client. Check the checkbox global reset. press enter.
There is one more thing you can check before buffer refresh. Look out for the number range object being used.
Then check it in SNRO txn. There you will find the transaction for maintaining the number range object intervals. GO to that transaction in both the instances and display the intervals. You will find discprency between the two instances.Though it is not very critical in case ur not able to find the number range object.
Regards.

EHP4 backup and Dialog instances
Hello All,
We intend to kick off the EHP4 PRD Downtime phase by Friday 10 PM.
Can you please provide me expert thoughts on the following:
1) When should we backup the PRD Database? (a) Anytime After the end of pre-processing phase when production operations are going on (b) after stopping of Application Servers and immediately before commencing the Downtime Phase
2) Is the online database backup fine or do we need a cold backup?
3) What steps specific to Dialog Instances are necassary like any profile parameter changes, explicit kernel upgrade on Dialog Instances before and after the downtime phase?
Thanks,
AntarpreetHi,

Once you will finish Pre-processing phase then it will ask you take backup of database, backup of upgrade directory and stop all productive operation. And then start downtime phase. At that phase you should take the backup. And this backup should be taken after stopping of application servers.

I would suggest you to take offline backup only because if you will take online backup then users will be there in the system which makes the backup inconsistent since productive operations will be on that time. Main idea to take backup is because if something goes wrong in downtime phase then you can restore the system at same stage before starting downtime. And if you will take online backup then users will be working that time so I think it defeats the purpose itself.

For dialog instance, you can check SAP note 1245473 Add. Info. - SAP Enhancement Package Installer 7.00. Extract below from this note:
Updating Dialog Instances
After the enhancement package installation on the central instance, you
need to update the dialog instances accordingly. To do this, you install
the new dialog instances on top of the old dialog instances using the
tool SAPinst.
You can now also install more dialog instances, if necessary.
3. Save your dialog instance profiles, if you want to reuse them.
4. In case of a dual-stack system or a Java system, uninstall the old
dialog instances as described in the installation guide for your
source release.
5. To install a new dialog instance, proceed as described in the
document Installation Guide - <SAP NetWeaver / SAP application>
(<Technology>) on <Operating System>: <Database>.
6. If you use other instance numbers than on the source release and
reuse the old dialog instance profiles, adapt the instance numbers
in the profiles.
Thanks

EHPI update, reinstall dialog instances
The EHPI installation book as well as the central note 1302772 say that if you are using EHPI and you have dialog instances that you need to De-install and Re-install the dialog instance if you have dual stack or java only stack.
Can anyone explain WHY this has to be done, This seems to be a lot of unneccessary work. In our enviironment the kernel directories are shared per the SAP design. The dialog instances are shutdown during down time.
I just got done doing and update on one of my sandbox systems and afterwards I started up my dialog instance(without reinstalling it) with no problems.
I did searches about tlhis but found no similar question
I am updating from NW 7.0 sp18 to Nw EHP1 sp8.Hi Harold,
This forum is highly informative. Did SAP actually update that no re-install is necessary?
We are done upgrading our SAP ERP 6.0 (ABAP only) system to EHP5 from EHP3.
Dont we need to upgrade our instance?
The SAP guide says just re-install with same SID and same instance number.
It seems very surprising that guide is so largely flawed.
Secondly there is a catch that we are on oracle 11.2.0.2
The installation master is asking for 10g Client.
it will be helpful if you can clarify a bit as what SAP replied precisely.
Thanks and Regards,

Polling adapters with additiona dialog instances?
Hi,
I have a question regarding the behavior of polling adapters, i.e. FTP adapter, when you install additional dialog instances for the central AE.
If the Central AE runs in two cluster nodes what is the behavior of a ftp sending adapter? I guess the adapter runs in both instances (RWB tells me that) but does both adapter instances poll the same ftp catalog for the same files at the same time? Is this a problem, i.e. is there a chance of picking up the same file in both instances?
//JohanI encountered the same problem and found the following workaround:
1. Create a copy of the table without the collection type column.
2. Go through the Database Adapter Wizard and finish it normally.
3. Next, modify the created Dataabse Adapter but now select the original table with the collection type column.
4. You should now be able to finish the wizard without any problems.
