Database restore without controlfiles ?

I had to restore database from backup and i do not have any control files.
So how do i open the database?

Hi,
>>is this correct process?
Well, yes... In resume, if the current versions of all online redo logs are available, then you just need create the control files using the "NORESETLOGS" option, and open the database. The recovery operation is required just if any of the datafiles are restored backups, or if the last shutdown was not normal.
1) startup nomount
2) create controlfile noresetlogs ....
3) recover database -- if necessary
4) alter database open;
5) Make a backup of the controlfile

  • Database restore without temp, undo and control files.

    Hi All,
    You might found this question silly but I don't know so asking this question here.
    I have cold back up of the database. Now, I want create clone of that database, but I have some different paths for the DBFs so I will create new control file after restoring the database.
    Now, I know that I don't need control files and tempfiles to be restored. I have 10 undo files in backup but on the new clone database I don't need all 10. I want only 5. So can I do the restoration without undo , temp and control file and later on add undo and temp?? and if yes then tell me that can I add them at mount level??
    This is my first restore, Please guide me its very urgent

    Therefore, we do a RECOVER with a CANCEL to simulate an Incomplete Recovery.Completely agree with you Hemant. And the links you've provided,i've gone through many times. Excellent description.
    I just wanted to know in above(OP's) scenario if he has complete cold backup(includes online redo logs), does he really need open reset logs or any recovery?
    Regards!no , if you have cold backup with online redo log files then i don't think so you need to open database in resetlogs.Resetlog is always after incomplete recovery or recovery using backup controlfile or you dont have redo logs.
    I am completely agree with you that with given scenario for the cold backup undo tablespace would not be part of recovery and you can
    -offline drop undo tablespace file
    -create another one undo tablespace and its undo datafile
    -point spfile to that newly undo tablespace
    I think Aman is saying in the context of restore and recover online database where undo tablespace create a vital role in database recovery, the undo blocks roll back the effects of uncommitted transactions previously applied by the rolling forward phase.

  • DataBase restore without manual backup

    I using a mobile service with the database. After the re-publishing services from the project visual studio, all data in table has been cleared. Data recovery mechanisms are not active (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/jj650016.aspx). Is there
    anyway possible to recover the data?

    Hi,
    Which Edition Database do you have ?
    If you have Web or Business Edition databases, you have to create your own backup strategy.
    Microsoft Azure SQL Database has built-in backups to support self-service Point in Time Restore and Geo-Restore for Basic, Standard, and Premium service tiers.

  • Is it possible to restore database from a full backup without controlfile?

    Hi,
    I have done a full backup for the database oracle 11g using:
    run{
    allocate channel c1 type disk;
    set limit channel c1 kbytes 102400;
    sql 'alter system archive log current';
    backup full tag 'dbfull' format 'd:\dbbackup\f_%d_%u_%s_%p_%t' database include current controlfile;
    backup archivelog all delete input format 'd:\dbbackup\al__%d_%u_%s_%p_%t';
    release channel c1;
    but, I deleted all the datafiles include all control files.
    Is it possible to restore the database?
    Is there a way to restore the control file from the backup files?

    Thanks Werner!
    I finally find the correct backuppiece for the controlfile.

  • Recover database without controlfile and redo logs

    Hi guys,
    I am doing a testing with an Oracle Database 11.1.0.7.0, I want recover a database in this scenario without using RMAN:
    -All controlfiles are missing
    -All redo logs are missing
    -I have a Backup Controlfile To Trace Resetlogs (bkp_controlfile.sql)
    -The database is in archivelog mode
    -The database was created with OMF (Oracle Managed Files)
    So I have done this steps:
    1) When the database was opened I rename all controlfiles and all redo logs
    2) Shutdown Abort
    3) I run the bkp_controlfile.sql, here I have a problem...
    The database put in NOMOUNT, the controlfile was created and started the RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE, but when run ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS; appear this:
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-01113: file 1 needs media recovery
    ORA-01110: data file 1:
    '/u02/app/oracle/oradata/OMF/datafile/o1_mf_system_68hzcb2z_.dbf'I wasn´t expect this because I don´t want recover a datafile, I only want open with resetlogs.
    Any suggestion to help me?
    Thanks a lot.

    Excelent! Thanks for your answers Markus and Hemant.
    In conclusion...
    - If we have all redo logs availables we can recreate the control file and recover the database without any problems using backup controlfile to trace noresetlogs*.
    - if we haven´t all redo logs availables, there are 2 situations:
    1) If the database shutdown properly:_ We will be able to open the database using recover database using backup controlfile until cancel*.
    2) If the database doesn´t shutdown properly:_ We won´t be able to open the database with only a backup controlfile to trace.
    With all this I close this thread. Was very good experience.
    If anyone would add something will be welcome.
    Thanks for all
    I wish add the results of one of my tests: if I did all the steps in only one session of sqlplus I can shutdown properly the database, but if do the shutdown immediate* in a new session I can´t shutdown properly the database. Here I post the output:

  • 9i Database - Restore to a new host, validating RMAN backup

    Hi all,
    I could use your help, for any of you who remember how to do this in 9i. On one of my production databases, running 9.2.0.6.0, I have a nightly RMAN script that writes the backup to a large shared drive (this is on a Windows 2003 server). This backup uses a recovery catalog.
    I have a test server, and I want to try and restore last night's backup on this test server, without touching the recovery catalog - purely as a means to go through the recovery process, and to validate our backups (this is also for SOX compliance, as this database is for the financial system).
    I have been looking through the 9i documentation, and was hoping to have some detailed steps here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96566/rcmrecov.htm#1007514
    but I don't see a lot of information there.
    I believe that this should be a rather simple process. On the test server, I have installed the 9.2.0.6 software, and created the Oracle Service using the same name as production. The test server can also see the shared drive that houses the backup files from the production system.
    Here are the steps I am trying, please let me know what I need to change. Thanks all!!
    rman target / nocatalog
    RMAN> set DBID 3679803977
    RMAN> startup nomount

    Many thanks for the helpful replies so far, Hemant!! I had to shelve this issue for a few days, back at it today.
    I have made some progress, I am able to restore the control file now - what I am doing, is copying the autobackup controlfile from the network drive over onto the server locally (E:\oracle\ora92\database\BACKUPCONTROL.ORA), then I am able to restore the controlfile with this:
    restore controlfile from 'E:\oracle\ora92\database\BACKUPCONTROL.ORA';
    And I can see that it restores all 3 of my controlfiles.
    The next step would be to do the database restore. When I issue the "restore database;" command, I can see that it lists out all of the datafiles that it needs to restore from the backup set, but then after about a minute, I see these error messages pop up:
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

    ORA-27067: skgfdisp: size of buffer is invalid
    OSD-04026: Invalid parameter passed.
    When I looked up those last 2 error codes on Metalink, I see document ID 213858.1 that looks like this normally happens when the backup piece that has Read-Only permissions. I have confirmed that the backup files on the network drive are not Read-Only, I have full Read/Write privileges on them. So once again, I am stumped.
    Any thoughts? I might go ahead and log an SR for this, to try and get it resolved.
    Thanks!

  • Database refresh without using RMAN duplicate

    Hi All,

    1) You use nid only to change the dbid.
    2) I have done this type of cloning much more than 50 times.
    3) As Iordan Iotzov pointed out, in 11gR2 you can run DUPLICATE database without being connected to the PROD
    Here is a sample code of how to do it assuming both file system are the same:
    # -- RMAN Restore to another server

    STARTUP NOMOUNT

    Hi Guenther,
    I've managed to bring up the SAP now after changing some parameters
    in the instance profile that are pointing to D:\. It's now up and
    running, but the dispatcher is in yellow colour. The status
    is "Running, Message Server connection ok, Dialog Queue time: 0.00 sec,
    J2EE status info unavailable". I did not select Java during the
    installation. Only ABAP was selected.
    I am able to login to the R/3 system now. I notice that there are some
    parameters in the instance profile are related to the Java like
    rdisp/j2ee_start, login/accept_sso2_ticket and etc. Is it possible that
    database backup that I used to restore was from a ABAP + JAVA system?
    Please see below for the dev_disp

  • Control file restore without backup

    I installed oracle 10g
    Backed it up with rman ... backup database
    Now I lost the control file
    With out auto backup of control file ..how can i restore my control file and get it in sync with my database file

    Hi,
    As you stated as the below things
    I installed oracle 10g
    Backed it up with rman ... backup database Does the backup is taken is of full backup, then you can restore the controlfile. Basic thing, when ever the System.dbf is backup implicity the control file backup is done, don't forget, then is no need to set autobackup on looking into this case.
    try to restore as from backup, sa I stated above, your issue will be solved, remember if any strucutal changes are carried out after your backup, then those can not be recovered based on backup controlfile (like addition of new datafiles)

    The error message states:
    RMAN-01005: syntax error: found "from": expecting one of: "to"restore TO where?
    Personally I'd never use RMAN to restore a control file. Takes less time to job copy an existing one.

  • Path to redo logs after restoring of controlfile

    Hello!
    After restoring of controlfile I see distorted redo logs metadata (column v$logfile.member ) :
    $OH/dbs/data/ora/MY_SID/rlog/redo1a.logIn source database redo logs placed in other directory,
    also I should drop logfile members and logfile groups and then to create them again , but may be there is other way to fix this issue?
    Please advise.
    I'm usung 11.2.0.3
    Thanks and regards,
    Pavel

    Hello Grirsh
    Thank You.
    You mean you are having some other name of redolog files than in the folder ?Yes , You are right. In database never was redo with this path.
    If yes, it means they may be something else, because Oracle is just using the those files which are showing in column of member of v$logfile view.Sorry. Could I ask You please to explain this phrase, as I wrote In database never was redo with this path,
    from where they appear after restoring of controlfile ?
    I saw the binary file from which control file was created through browsers, it doesn't contain the path mentioned in my first post
    Best regards,
    Pavel

    The instructions are in that link. Just follow them VERY CAREFULLY. Especially the part about:
    Turn off your device and leave it off.
    Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes. [but DON'T connect it to the iPhone yet]
    Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
    When you see the iTunes screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.
    When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
    Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.

    What exactly are you seeing on the phone's screen ? If the iTunes icon and cable then the phone is in recovery mode, in which case it's too late to take a new backup or to copy any content off the phone - you will have to connect the phone to your computer's iTunes and reset it back to factory defaults, after which you can restore to the last backup that you took or just resync your content to it

  • How to restore without losing playlists created manually

    I assume I need to restore my iPod because I inadvertently locked the volume limit and can't unlock it. (I clicked on combination, which locked it automatically without giving me a chance to enter a combination).
    So, my question is how to restore without losing the playlists as I have them, given that I manually synced each song individually from various iTunes playlists.
    Thanks,
    Karen

    You can't restore an iPod without losing all the data stored on it.
    It seems from your post that the playlists are still in iTunes, so after the restore you can just transfer them to the iPod once more.
    If the playlists are no longer in iTunes (and solely on the iPod), and if you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.

    my phone is stuck in recovery mode, am i able to restore without loosing all contacts? p.s i dont have my original computer

    Thanks, I figured that out, so I went ahead and restored it, which also didn't work!  It gave me an error 3194, which I also can't figure out.
